That crackpot, old J. Vernon McGee, did his Buy-bull Bus series in 5 years, sanitizing what this wacky anthology had to say. He'd use his southern accent and "preacher's authority" to convince folks that this "god" was "right-chee-us!" and "we" need to follow "him". McGee is dead now, but his shtick lives on for the hard of thinking. Hopefully Hemant will undo most of the damage that these evangelists have done by not actually READING, but MANGLING the nonsense in the bible.

The thing about Aaron's other two sons being punished for making fire wrong is so obviously the kind of warping religious people do when describing ordinary events. A mistake when using flammable oils causes some people to burn to death and instead of it being "fire is dangerous so be more careful" it's "This was clearly God's wrath for getting the ceremony wrong.". It's like when Christians after the fact describe successful events as caused by God's grace and unsuccessful events as caused by God's wrath.

A couple of stuff I think you will be interested in (as an ex religious jew):
You talked a couple of times about the two sons of Aaron that were killed by god. In the jewish tradition you should read one section of the Torah (which is called parasha, but I don't know the translation to English) every shabat (with exceptions) and so you will read all the Torah every year. One of those "Parasha"s is called "After the death of" because it starts with the saying that god killed them. So this fact is well know, even to kids.
You calulated that every family had at least 45 children. It makes sense with the legend that each birth was of 6 children every time for the israelites in egypt.
The ceremony of "buying" the first born back from god is done by taking 5 coins made of silver and giving them to someone from the bloodline of Aaron, and most people don't have such coins, so they buy them from the priest at around 50$.
Priests in jewdaizm are not Rabbis, they are just from the bloodline of Aaron, if that bloodline wasn't corrupted by marrying a women who got divorced or in many other ways.

@@hocuspocus123 In the jewish tradition God killed Aaron's sons because of a couple of reasons (different traditions, which are said to not be contridictory but both to be the saying of god)
One is that they were drunk while sacrificing, and you can learn it from the text because god told Aaron afterwards to not be drunk when serving God.
The other reason is that they were very knowledgeable in the sayings of God, and so they preached to the people infront of they betters (Moshe and Aaron), so they got punished for this. This resoning is being used endlessly to tell people that they should never contradict their elders or rabbis, or teachers. My father is a rabbi, and while I was growing up it was always said to me that it's wrong to talk back to him or to say anything that might sound like I contredict him, or anything that might sound like I want to teach people because it will be prideful like the way that the two sons of Aaron acted.
God forbade Moses from entering the holy land for a number of reasons (just like the previous case).
One is that him entering to the holy land must be when the israelites would be ready for the redemption, because of how pure he is.
Another is that he have done somwthing wrong in the eyes of the lord, at Numbers 20 8 God tells Moses that for giving the israelites water he needs to go and talk to a rock that will give them water, and he struck the rock insted (which of course made water to come out of the rock), so god told him that for this show of a lack of faith in god he would be punished by dying without getting into Israel.
Another one is that by tradition (and by Deuteronomy 1 35-39) except 2 righteous man no one of the people that came from Egypt will go into the promise land. And Moses was 120 years old at that time, so for all the people that are currently alive from the israelites Moses is the cool duded that talks to god and breaks the sea and generates water from rock and a whole bunch of miracles, so they will see him as a kind of a god and might worship him insted of worshiping god, so he must not enter for them to have a better chance of serving god.
About why god was OK with Moses breaking the tablets there is an abundance of reasons, One is that once Moses got close to people the israelites worshiping the calf the holiness of the tablets was gone, so there was no reason for him to keep holding them.
Another is that the tablets were too heavy for him to carry, but the words written on them carried the tablets by themselves, and when Moses got close to the israelites and the calf the words literraly flew away from the stone, and so Moses couldn't hold them anymore.
About Moses marrying a cushite, it's a subject that no matter how I'll address it will sound very very racist, so I'll just say in advance that I don't belive that what I say is true, nor that one race is superior or inferior.
The word cushite is the female way of saying cushi, which in Hebrew is used as a slur for saying black people.
Moses maried a midianite woman, as you can see in Exodus 2 21. Moses siblings talked about the cushite wife he took in Numbers 12 1, but according to a lot of interpertrs of the Torah (I think it's even mentioned in the Talmud, but I'm not certain. it was definitely written hundrends of years before the Talmud) that this saying was a "Sagi Naor" which basically means that they are saying the oposite. And because that being black makes you look horible, that by saying he has a cushite wife they acctually meant that he had a beautiful wife. and they gossiped about it because that how can he have a beautiful wife and serve god.
After all of this, you should know that for every quistion you asked I am 100% certain that people argued about it for years and years, and you can put a 5 hours lecture only of the different ways of interperting the relevant passages and their meaning. And I only put here a tiny bit of it, and I already invested way to much time in it.
Hope you find this informative enough.

@@hodsinay6969 you really took the time to answer me.. I am so thankful 🙏
I completely understand what you are saying about how many interpretations each passage has.
I have read the Torah and the rest of Tanakh, didn't read the Talmud yet but I think I should as most of the interpretation are there as I have been told, and I need to understand what is there that is not available to us readily.
I don't know where you stand in your beliefs but for me I dropped religion a long time ago and just want to understand the roots of the 3 Abrahamic religions and how the Torah and the main characters interpreted especially in third and forth reading.
      Thanks again!

In my opinion based on the most current archeological evidence, the Torah was likely written and assembled by priests, scribes, and leaders of Judaism around the 5th to 4th century post exile period BCE. I believe it was extracted and pieced together from Hebrew oral myths and traditions, embellished, edited. I think they intended it to ultimately serve as a useful written and permanent template for patriarchal priests and religious leaders of Judaism to extract what they wanted from their religious patrons, using promotional stories of an extremely vengeful, violent and bloody god ......fear tactics just as in a ruthless dictatorship with Yahweh being the invisible dictator, and the Judaistic leaders being his representatives and beneficiaries.

I was always taught not to round off numbers before doing a calculation, because the outcome would be off by too much. First do the maths, then round off the outcome.
They would have needed to round off their numbers, because by the time they finally reached the end of the chapters, with their endless repetitions, some people would have died and new ones would be born.

God led my words. Now no god or voice of god in my head were puppeteering me. But the brainwashing I went through caused me to give my own brain to God. But really, this is a literary theme; the pharoah killed the first born children back when moses was a babe, now god gets revenge and kills the egyptians and later Herod kills the jewish babies, of course that would only have been males since they were the only the ones who would threaten his authority.
