- Written by Gordon Lightfoot. Performed by Joe Paulik. I consider this the most romantic song for the winter season. This snowy setting is just how I imagine the song.
Gordy just passed today. Canada is mourning today. Very nice rendition Sir!
Great Job, best cover of this song I've ever heard. Thanks Joe!
l will always love his music, and what a Tribute to him, love this Version, wonderful job!
The “setting”, the playing, the voicing, the whole package. A great contribution to us music freaks. Thank You So Much for taking the time to share. A setting as such is “more than lay-back”. Much appreciated 🙏😍🤠
Gordon is no longer with us, but we still have his music.
This rendition carries the inner feeling of the song.
Thank you.
Great cover! I really miss Gordon Lightfoot. I listened to his music growing and still do to this day. Gordon is one of the best ballad singers. May he RIP.
I think Gordon himself would stand up and applaud you rendition and your talent!
Awesome 😎!
Never forget Gordon at Live 8 in 2005 Barrie. He walks out on stage alone with his guitar and says his band got held up in traffic, then said, he'd do it solo....Was awesome!!! . Reminds me of this.
Wow a tremendous voice and talent! This is a very touching song! I think Gordon Lightfoot would be honored. You capture his intention amazingly!
Still processing, mourning. What an amazing musician. A stand out for sure, we will miss you forever Gordon Lightfoot!
It's just great how your voice captures the sincerity and vulnerability of the song! Thank you for putting this out here.
This is my all-time, hands-down favorite Gordon Lightfoot song. Your setting perfectly captures Gord's beautifully crafted lyrics. Very well done, sir!
Gordon was the greatest folk singer/songwriter of all time. It's really nice to see his work covered with such respect. Thank you!
Wonderful! I love your voice and I love the guitar part. You got all the notes--bravo!
Boxing day 2023! Great job and a beaut of a setting for the song!
Thank you for giving Gordon the respect this song deserves.
Absolutely beautiful rendition! I still can't believe we lost Gord 😢 RIP
❤
Wonderful cover of a great song... but this setting? Superb! The cabin and song capture the essence of the tune. Truly great work all round!
Beautiful version of this wonderful song
This cover was what made me decide to learn guitar and sing. This was back in 2019 now. Still one of my favorite songs to play and I often come back to your cover here. Thank you.
absolutely moving… great job, great voice, unbelievable setting…
i salute you Sir…
This man has a beautiful voice
Beautiful rendition
I was fortunate enough to see Gordon in concert, albeit, towards the end of his career when his band was supporting him more, both in playing and vocals. Your cover is quite true to the musician we all knew and loved. Kudos to you and God bless to him.
May Gordon rest in peace.😂❤
Saw Joe last weekend up on the North Shore playing in the freezing cold at a resort. It was awesome. This song stole the show. Bought a CD, thanks Joe!!
Hey Rust Bucket, nice to hear from you again!
Love ❤ this cover song so much!🎉 So calming.😅
I'm leery of most UA-cam covers, especially songs that are my favorites, but this is really well done. And the setting is brilliant. Well done, sir!
Dennis ... ditto!
Certainly one of our greatest balladeers.. loved you Gordy.
Great winter setting and beautifully played and sang.
VERY good rendition! Hats off to you sir!
Great rendition. Thank you!
Absolutely superb! You are one of the few singers I've heard who can capture Gord's musical vibe and feeling. Well done!
This was absolutely wonderful. Thank you. Gordon was an outstanding singer song writer and I love his music. RIP Gordon. ❤
Beautiful...
As a songwriter who greatly admired Gord, I truly appreciate your performance of one of my favorite Lightfoot songs. Very nice.
Your endorsement is amazing! Calvin did a wonderful job though. 😊 🎉 ❤
You do this wonderful song justice. Thank you.
Thank you for doing such a wonderful justice to this beautiful song.
Beautiful rendition... I hope Gord himself was able to enjoy your excellent tribute.
Clever flat-picking, sincere voice. Well done, that fellow.
Beautifully done! Thanks!
I listen to Joe over and over play this song. This recording should be in the millions. What talent!!!❤
Your voice & playing are lovely...and with the snow falling! One of Gordon's best songs. Thanks.
Good rendition, well done.
Nice atmospherics with the falling snow.
Beautifully done!
I consider myself to be Gordon’s biggest fan……❤ since 1970. I generally don’t play male covers of his music, because it hurts to much, this being my favorite Gordon song. But your setting drew me in….and you stayed true to Gordon’s arrangement. Thank you for all your effort😊❤.
This is so amazing and peaceful. Wonderful singing and wonderful winter snow scene.❤🎉😊
Fabulous cover of a great tune! Well done, Joe!
thank you sir ... eyes welling ... beautiful song ... RIP Gordon.
An immaculate cover and that's the sort of cabin I could live in for the rest of my life
This is wonderful, greatly honors/respects Gordon Lightfoot's original!
I lived in Canada when Gordo wrote this song.Wonderful time for me, 'should have stayed there... Beautiful song, beautifully played by you too. Great technique and terrific voice.... good luck mate.
I had to look twice to be sure I did not recognize the cabin. Perfect setting.
Still hard to believe that Gordon wrote this song in a hotel room in Cleveland, OH, during a July thunderstorm!!
Merry Christmas! I found this right around Christmas last year and played your version of this
beautiful song over and over again. So glad you made the video, so glad you shared it on UA-cam.
Very well performed. ✌️🙂
Wow!
Lovely Setting and
❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
Wonderful sound
❤ Vocals to a
Beautiful tune!
Thanks Joe
Cheers!
❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
The THI here in Nashville is at 108 degrees C, but seeing the snow and log cabin and hearing this most beautiful song I feel cool.
❤️❤️❤️ much love and respect!!!
I watched two of Gordon Lightfoot's live recordings of this song for the first time today. One from the late 1960's and another one in Vegas when he was much older. Obviously very moving, what talent he had. Joe's rendition is an awesome cover! By slowing down the tempo just a bit, the tension and hurried pace of the original is filtered out and the words are clear and unequivocal, the occasional shift in intonation accentuates the emotion - great voice, great delivery...You are a great artist. I hope you are still playing and maybe making your own music.
I appreciate that comment
Beautifully performance . Mid sixties were a wonderful time to my memory .
Nicely done and great back drop👍
Absolutely beautiful - setting, voice, song. One of my GL favorites. Thank you.
Spoiler Alert!
Hi, when I read the book, “Lightfoot”, I was quite surprised to learn that Gordon Lightfoot wrote this song in an upper floor room, that he used for writing, in downtown Toronto, in July, in the middle of a hot, sticky, heat wave!
Check it out for yourself because I found it incredible that a song of angst, set in a cabin/cottage, in a snowy woods, could have been written under the exact opposite circumstances, but there you have it.
This might have tarnished my view of this song a little, but I can still close my eyes and picture the song unfolding. Perhaps this knowledge has only enhanced my appreciation, because now I’m more in awe of his creative ability. Bottom line: we have the song to listen to and enjoy regardless of the circumstances of its creation.
Your beautiful rendition is the way I like to envision this song!
Thank you
I wrote a song called "Days of Summer" in mid February a few years back. Your revelation in this comment supports my feeling of why an homage to the enchanted days of summer would be written at the height of winter, and why an homage to the beauty of a winter winter scene, Song for a Winter's Night, might be written at the pinnacle of summer heat. I think of it this way: If one has fasted from food for a few days, might that not be the perfect time to write an homage to food - when you've fasted from it for a while and feel hunger's pangs? I thank you for your wonderful insightful comment, and hope this helps remove any tarnish from the song. Peace, friend.
Mr. Lightfoot wrote the song in Cleveland, Ohio, during the Summer. 🎶🌞
@@suzannemcmaken4648 Hi Suzanne, you are absolutely correct. I made an honest mistake so I offer my humble apologies. I just checked page 56 of Nicholas Jennings’s book, “Lightfoot”, and it confirmed that I did get my facts confused. I appreciate you calling me on it.
Hopefully, I can go the rest of the day without making another won. 🤔😉
When inspiration lands at you feet you take advantage of it no matter where you are or the setting is.
I just stumbled across your channel and so glad I did. A truly wonderful rendition along with a great production. Great job!!!
Take Care,
Dave😎
Such a beautiful song, written and recorded by Canada’s treasure and and only your voice could this song justice!! Would love to hear more! Thank you for honoring Gordon’s legacy (living legend)
Thank you, Joe, for your plaintive, poignant tribute to our beloved Gordon Lightfoot’s masterpiece! You sing & play from the heart: which is exactly the way he wrote, performed & lived. The rural, unpretentious, cozy cabin setting lends itself perfectly to the mood of this musical gem…well done! 👌🪵❄️🎼😊❤️
Brilliant 👏.

One of my favorites. You did the best cover of it that I’ve heard. Great job
Best version of this song I have heard! Bravo!
This is really beautiful but I can't watch it knowing that it is only truly Gordon Lightfoot's song and performance that makes it perfect.
But this guy comes in a close 2nd. God bless him and may Mr. Lightfoot rest in peace. 🙏🙏🙏
Well done Sir.
wonderful job
A beautiful song and an amazing cover of it. I'm sure Gord would love it.

Lovely. Brought tears to my eyes like the original did half century ago. Timeless. Thank you.
You do this song justice Joe Paulik, nice clear voice. Beautiful song of Gordon Lightfoot's.
I wish I could vote this video Thumbs Up more than once!!
Marvelous!!!
Joe, I completed the video in time for the Memorial Service in Poland today! Stayed up till 5am last night to accomplish that but in my opinion "of my final video" your song was definitely my favorite part. It is at the end of the video. I spent days clipping pieces of a 3 hours of wedding video from 6 years ago and 69 photos and last night assembled them all! Your song really emotionally moved everyone there in Poland as my daughter-in-law and her family have watched the video over and over again as it has been very healing for all them! The title of video is:
In memory of Grzegorz Wojtylak! 1946 - 2018.
It is posted on my channel "aesarawolf"! I hope you are pleased. Your rendition in my musical opinion is better and more moving than the original by Gordon Lightfoot. I hope to meet you someday! It appears you live in Canada or the North country of the US! Thanks again! Many blessing for making such beautiful music! Daniel
Very good singing. You have a gentle and expressive voice needed to sing Lightfoot.

So Awesome. Thank You…
Man that’s really nice. Such a great arrangement. Cool setting too! Thanks for posting.

Beautiful cover Joe. You show respect to the original, yet the unique quality of your own voice shines through.
