Agreed! "The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald" is a classic song and it is a wonderful tribute to everyone who lost their lives that day. If you have the chance, please check out my dad's cover of this song on his UA-cam channel (it's called DavidMoatMUSIC). He did a live cover of this song. It's awesome. Thanks in advance! Take care :)
Rest in peace Gordon Lightfoot, you did him right by this cover and I’m sure he’s rejoicing up in heaven with the crew he did right and made forever legendary by this song.
Like many of us, I've been watching UA-cam for many years. This is the first time ever though that I've felt compelled to post a comment. From one musician to another................................this is THE BEST cover of this that I have ever heard. Adding to that, your choice of the setting for your video is awesome. Well done, very well done!!!
Great remake!!! "The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" had always been one of my favorite songs when I first heard it as a kid back in 1976/77...And to this day, it still is. To the men of the Fitzgerald, may their sprits rest in peace.

I had to listen to your cover of this wonderful Gordon Lightfoot song as a tribute. Gordon Lightfoot passed away recently, and I remember listening to this song an awful lot when I was on the verge of turning 20. I'm now 37, and as I listened to your cover, I was in tears. My father loved Gordon Lightfoot, too. 😢😭
I have shared this each year on the anniversary of the tragic event (November 10, 1975). Thank you brother for doing this wonderful tribute, and for doing it on the shores of the lake for those who were lost there. Excellent cover!!! Peace my friend!
Due to the iconic status of this song it takes balls to record a cover. Faithful to the original but the performer makes it his own, and the memories of the 29 are respected. A job well done. Thank you.
Gordon Lightfoot who is the master of this creation has said that he has not heard a cover of his music that he did not like because it is honoring his music. I think he may have been thinking of this song at the time. Although I am not sure of the time line I will say that even if he was not, he would now include it as toward the top of what gives his music the honor it deserves. Any talk of this being better than the master is of course foolishness. The student is never greater than the master when it comes to music. You may add some freshness to a song that has been around for a while, but that is what Gordon is speaking of. You are merely keeping the music alive. You have done that well. Thank you for posting this. Even though I am late to see it.
And yeah, Joe has an awesome voice. He has a wonderful talent for weaving instruments and voices together to really capture a mood. I have had the privilege of camping with this guy (in the company of many others) and there is nothing quite like practicing ancient aboriginal skills while the sun is setting and hearing Joe play his music in the background for days on end. Oh, how I miss those days :)
Beautiful. Haunting as the original. You have done a great justice to the song and the artist, Mr. Gordon Lightfoot. It’s a real honor to the crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Fantastic tribute! I grew up on the lakes and I remember when the Fitz wreck made the news when I was just a kid. My great grandfather was a captain who went down with his ship on Huron in 1877. Often times if I am downtown by the city (Buffalo) I will stand at the water's edge at the mouth of the Buffalo river where it enters the harbor and gaze out over the mouth of the Niagara and over Erie, 250 miles of water from there to Toledo and countless wrecks over the centuries. So many souls out there who will never come home.

BEAUTIFUL rendition of a Masterpiece. Perfect playing of the 12 String. A fine tribute to the memory of the Edmund Fitzgerald. R.I.P. 11/10/1975 @ 1930 HRS.
Absolutely the best cover, of Gordon Lightfoot's masterpiece, that I have ever heard Joe. It deserves to be played and sung in the manner in which you presented it. Just beautiful. Gordon, rest in peace my friend, would be pleased I'm certain. Thank you for giving it to us.
Great job! I know tht spot, lived there for 7 years. Used to catch Lake trout by the rocks out front of Paradise beach...perfect setting for an epic song!
One of the best things about UA-cam is cover music. Good cover music in my opinion, pays homage to the original and also has a unique take on it. Totally awesome job man. Thank you for posting this. Was a pleasure to listen to.
A very good cover performance. Well done. Single guitar performance and good vocal is very well. I have not something like this good for a long time. Thank you for the post.
Thank you once again, after many times watching this. I visited Whitefish Point Bay museum, it was bone chilling. I will never hear this song the same way again, ever.
I feel confident I heard him in person sing this at BlueFin resort. It was so awesome with the sound of Lake Superior in the background. Is was so awesome.
Years of passing over with an, UGH... another cover ruining this song, without ever giving a listen. I apologize to you sir. I have heard Lightfoot sing this live twice, this was just as, if not more enjoyable. Thank you
This song will forever remind me of my friend who was both a Chippewa and was obsessed with the lore of Lake Superior. He had found some interesting stories.
First time I have heard one of your songs. What a great voice you have and such a good voice for this song. I am a fan of Brian Ekard who has done a lot of Gordon Lightfoots pieces. Brian too has a great voice. I could just imagine you and Brian doing this piece together; it would be awesome. I have only heard a few people who could give this song the vocals and energy to do it right. You are one of those people.. Keep up the very well done work!
Quite possibly the best cover of a song I've ever experienced, sonically and visually. I feel it respects the original but takes me to a deeper place. Thank you.
OK , so I listened to this cover and thought what an excellent performance and then I clicked on your name to see what other songs you have covered and after seeing your list and covers and originals all I could think is why did I not find you earlier than now. I am really enjoying your music. Thank You
Wow this is a great cover of a great song. listened to it many times an I get the same feeling Everytime. This cover an this one alone adds something to that feeling especially with the lake next to you.
The fact is that some of the most dangerous/unpredictable water to navigate in the entire world are the five Great Lakes. Each one holds the wreckage of lost ships and are the graves of many sailors. I pray for all who work the Great Lakes in the winter.
Knowing that lake superior is right next to you as you sing this song is pretty chilling.
and the ship herself
Ya
that's probably the calmest you'll ever see that lake.
codenameace that is the calmest I’ve ever seen it. I’ve seen the waves crash against the cliffs at Palisade Head. Very humbling experience.
xThat70sGuy superior sings in the rooms of her ice water mansion
Truly great solo acoustic rendition of this song. The crew was properly paid respect in this performance.
I think the line:
"Does anyone know where the love of God goes/When the waves turn the minutes to hours?"
Is possibly the most haunting ever written.
The song in its entirety is a songwriting masterpiece. The line you quote says so much. You can picture the crew having to endure the storm.
Absolutely haunting. I guess Gordo wrote many of these lyrics as he read the newspaper article of the wreck.

After seeing and listening to this, my wife said, that there should be more people like you in this world.

that's an honorable cover. nice work.
Beautiful. Haunting as the original. You have done a great justice to the song and the artist, Mr. Gordon Lightfoot. It’s a real honor to the crew of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
I think of this song every time I drive the North Shore and look out over that expansive blue water.
Fantastic tribute!

This song will forever remind me of my friend who was both a Chippewa and was obsessed with the lore of Lake Superior. He had found some interesting stories.
Listened to your acoustic vid more than Gordans at this point. Best I've heard.
Notice how calm and quiet Lake Superior is as he sings this. Its almost a beautiful yet dramatic foil/irony. Really great cover too.
Beautifully organic, nicely done..

Love 'it', just absolutely love 'it'. Bravo!
Awesome!!! the water adds a special ambiance to the song, and what a better place to record it...
And the unresolved chord to end the tune, speaks to the unresolved nature of the sinking of the ship
Very very well done. This is the best so far
I really enjoyed this.....thank you sir
The most famous folk tale of the Great Lakes!
Quite possibly the best cover of a song I've ever experienced, sonically and visually. I feel it respects the original but takes me to a deeper place. Thank you.
