- Performed by Joe Paulik on the Temperance River in the Superior National Forest. The brilliance of this song by Gordon Lightfoot is that it takes no opinion about that which it describes: the transformation of this continent from that of pristine wilderness to that greatly altered and affected for the desires of man. The narrative presents a haunting and exquisitely beautiful virgin and wild America at the beginning and the end of the song. In between, it nonjudgmentally presents the progression of activities and decisions of man as also being an awesome occurrence. We the audience are left with one of the greatest gifts a writer can give: the clarification of choice.
I believe that Gordie himself would be impressed!!
This is a difficult song to cover. It's so iconic. But you've done a very nice job of capturing it's simple elegance.
NICE!!!! You sir are a top-notch musician. Thank you.
Joe: This is a fantastic rendition of a very difficult song. You've captured the voice and style of Gordon Lightfoot perfectly ! Truly enjoyed this... Jagdish
So well done. I am a Canadian and you have done this rendition
of Gordie's song a massive honour. Thank you.
Crying out loud Joe that was top drawer. If you ever visit Ireland I'd love to have a pint of Guinness and a chat with you for an hour or two or three or four. Well done 👏 ✔ 👍
I love how you go out into nature to do your songs.
Very nicely done. I think Gordon would approve.👍👍🇨🇦

You do Mr. Lightfoot great justice. Plus I love the settings!
What a treasure I have found. Love the off center positioning of the singer. Very. Ice
A great anthem it would make! And a great cover this is... true to the original, not overdone like the Idol songs. Very well done!
For a post-Fender Guild, that one sounds great. Wonderful voice too.

Joe, I saw a music video that I believe you recorded a couple of years ago and - I'm bad, I did not continue to seek you out. I am SO glad you have the true musicians belief in himself. I'm in the process of going through all of your recordings and say THANK YOU!! Well done my friend.

Fantastic cover of this great tune by one of Canada's greatest singer-songwriters. - It always made me feel proud to be Canadian. Sadly Gordon Lightfoot passed away a few days ago. May he RIP for eternity.

That was awesome! I've been missing Gordon and this filled the spot. !0 years ago? What is the story? Are you still doing this?

nicely done, Joe
Great cover!
Shouldn't this be Canada's National Anthem? As a Yank, I gotta say, it beats the crap out of the "the rocket's red glare, etc."
Great cover! Have you ever covred "Winter's Night For You" and "Miguel?'Do you do much touring & playing at folk venues?
yes, here is my link to "Song for a Winter's Night" ua-cam.com/video/7oZshkTwcC0/v-deo.html
Joe, That was a superb rendition of one of the lengthiest songs of folk music. Your voice and guitar playing are superb. The outdoor setting was ideal for this song of Canada. I'm going to push the "subscribe" button for you. My hobby for my senior years is singing __ but I can't play guitar or anything else. Hopefully, you'll care to view:
