Not really so, friend; some of us STILL sing 'em... if it's about the song and not about the money. There are songs lifting up ideas; songs against war; songs about friendship; songs about romance; ballards; songs of praise to God; songs of sadness and brokenness. What makes them alive is the living heart and mind of the singer. If you're truly involved in your song; if you really MEAN what you're singing and do it with a whole heart... even if it's with a frail and croaking voice, THAT'S what makes it alive, and draws others WITH you, into your song. Judy’s voice was heavenly. I was fortunate enough to hear her in person 4 times in my life. There’s not a pop tart on earth that can match Judy Collins’ instrument.
She was my mom's favorite singer as well and I got to take her to a concert as a surprise. She didn't even know where we were going that evening and certainly didn't know Judy was in town. I sprung for the nicest balcony seats and it was the best money I ever spent. Her voice was outstanding. The quality hasn't lessened in the least.
2022 Judy Collins is still touring. Some shows, for example, at City Winery. AND she supported Joni Mitchell's return at Newport with Brandi Carlile in 2022 too.
I saw Judy 2 times in my life. It was in Lincoln Center in NYC and Tim Buckley was the opening act. Need I say more. But yes... It was on army reserve summer camp and a weekend break from Fort Drum. I stood at the entrance of a concert hall in Montreal and could choose "The World Of Sholom Aleichem" or Pete Seeger. And I chose Pete. The man was a"treasure"!
Brought a tear to my eye as well. Though we will never hear another duet by Judy and Pete, I am happy that there are contemporary artists out there such as Brandi Carlile, who are writing beautiful and meaningful songs.
One morning in assembly in 1969 the Latin teacher accompanying himself on guitar and Miss Delve the maths teacher sang this in a duet, we were dead impressed.
Lost too many people in the last 3 years. This song for my 63 yr old neighbor died of brain cancer last year. For Rosemary. I cry for you today. This is your song.
Surely there’s a place for today’s artists to try and showcase their talents in a simple format like this. Could they do it? Judy and Pete could and are legends.

I had played Judy Collin's lullabies exclusively for my 1st new born baby 25+yrs ago. At that time, i knew nothing about Judy Collin, but i liked the voice and wanted my baby's early days to sleep in this sweet and pure voice. Up until now, I don't know what Judy Collin look like, but she looked just like what i had imagined. Her voice bring back many sweet memories when i was a new mother. Thank you! ❤
More now than ever I think. These two are the gold standard of folk music. In my opinion neither one will ever be equaled or surpassed by any other man or woman. Judy's voice is still angelic after 7 decades of performing. Remarkable

I come to listen to these folks sing that beautiful song when I’m wondering where we are heading, in our country. The simplicity of the melody and the beauty of the Bible verse remind me that, for a moment, truth and grace held hands together.

And, listening to Pete at the end saying, "I could die tomorrow and I'd die happy, in a way, to think that other people are singing my songs..." A life long, and well lived for sure. Also, Judy Collins' voice is the voice of an angel. I had the wonderful opportunity to catch her in concert in Central Park in 1979 during a summer evening in NYC. Just fabulous.

Mid 70’s, going to a Bread and Roses concert at the Greek Theatre. As was typical of car congested North Berkeley, I was walking six blocks to the venue. As I entered the street that led downhill to the theatre I realized I was walking beside Pete. He was on the bill that evening and was strolling down from where he was staying at a friend’s house. We had a nice conversation about Berkeley architecture as we walked along.
What a treasured memory! I heard him when he toured with Arlo Gurthrie. I never met him, but I did meet Ronnie Gilbert, Holly Near (I was their temporary amateur roadie when they came to Oak Park) and Arlo.

Judy’s voice was heavenly. I was fortunate enough to hear her in person 5 times in my life. There’s not a jam tart on earth that can match Judy Collins’ instrument.
This is from Pete Seeger's show on PBS which was broadcast in the late 60s called Rainbow Quest. he had quite a few contemporary singers Judy Collins, Arlo Guthrie, Donovan,et. He also he also did film clips of Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie. Great show. Watched it every week.
@@eugenedegeorge5084 I did a little research. The 39 episodes of Rainbow Quest were recorded in 1965 and the show debuted that year. The show was rebroadcast in 1967-68, likely when you saw it. I’m curious as to where this Judy Collins broadcast falls in relation to the Byrds’ “Turn, Turn, Turn,” which debuted in October of 1965 and was #1 by December. Obviously, they were very close in time. Judy appeared in episode #32. Pete does reference “other people singing my songs” at the end.
Thank you both SO MUCH for sharing your memories and your research! I came hunting through the comments hoping to find exactly this, and I wasn't disappointed
