Probably the best live performance of the best song by the most gifted singer-songwriter who has ever lived. Yes I know what a claim that is and I know I’m right. The universe says so. ❤

I became a massive Gordon Lightfoot fan thanks to Sarah McLachlan and her version of this song. You see, as a young musician myself, I clearly knew of GL and the Edmund Fitzgerald, but I had not heard this one. I found the original not long after hearing Sarah’s version and immediately picked up a guitar for the first time in about a decade.

I had hesitations about listening to J.P. Cormier with Symphony Nova Scotia musicians. Gosh, this is such a vital touchpoint in my life! Winter, the holidays of winter, were magical times in my past. A patina of melancholy has developed with time on those memories. Gordy's song has become the bridge from then to now. "Song for a Winter's Night" seemed sad as I first listened to the lyrics. I'm not so sure that is so, all this time later. The sadness of it is redeemed by the wish to hold the hand of the one he loves. I
If that doesn't satisfy the writer's yearning for that particular winter, he is wise enough to realize that this will have to do; what he has is in his heart. With time, he will have his lover's hand in his.
JP, with the Symphony Nova Scotia, do a marvelous job with their rendition. I especially enjoyed the orchistration~ It could have easily drowned out the soft message, yet each instrument is there to augment Lightfood's melody instead.
I downloaded it because I love it! So thanks, Gordy, and most of all thank you, J.P. Cormier, with Symphony Nova Scotia musicians!

I've been covering this song for several years and heard many different versions and since I re-posted imine a couple of weeks ago, they have been popping up daily and yours was today. This is by far my favourite version to date. Amazing presentation vocally and the string section behind you was magnificent. I love it, love it, love it!! I came across the guitar reviews first. Then I saw the fiddle playing. Then I came on this, and I thought, what's this going to be like - there are a lot of great guitarists who can sort of sing the tune. So - OK, then! OK!
