- Hoarding those little bits of yarn leftover from projects? It's about time you put them to use! In this video, I give you 10 practical crochet project ideas that will use up the yarn in your stash + you can start crocheting after the video :)

@@knittingknut which I find funny because Navajo as to my understanding did not invent nor if they did particularly use this method of ply. So the more common (and accurate) name is chain ply. I hope that my comment did not come across as preachy.

When I was a child, my mom used her yarn scraps to crochet a really looooong snake for me. 😃 I loved stuffed animals and had loads of them.

I love how thoughtful this list is, rather than just suggesting a scrap blanket. I'll actually use some of these. I love the slippers, especially.
It seems that is the most popular item associated with scrap blankets. But when you use different yarn weights and colors, it's not always practical. Thanks so much for sharing and I think that slippers are a great choice!
Yes. I like those to wear with boot slippers--no matter what brand I get, my feet seem to be between sizes. Slippers like these make them fit perfectly!

Re: the Sakura (SAW-koo-rah) face scrubbies; sakura means cherry blossom in Japanese, hence the classic shape of these scrubbies. Sakura trees are almost an obsession in Japan, and the season of their bloom (late March-early April) is a very popular time of year, as people travel to well known trees and plantings to admire the colors.
You know, I think that's what the pattern states in the blog and that was the inspiration behind that particular pattern. I can see why they would be an obsession, they are beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing.

I said the same thing about it being the best video for yarn scrap usage. Then I read your comment. I’m keeping this video in my saved folder.
I had 21 skeins of color yarn that I had purchased along 2 years to do mexican embroidery. I used all of them to crochet 200 granny squares, made a white border on all of them, purchased a couple more colours and made a huge blanket almost 1.80 meters long by 1.40meters wide. I arranged the squares according to the shades, violet and pink merging with blues and greens then yellow, orange, red and pink again
That sounds like such a beautiful project. I'm imagining something called a temperature blanket (I think?). I've seen a few floating around on Instagram. Granny squares are definitely a good use for scrap yarn too. Thanks so much for sharing. I hope this can inspire someone to crochet a blanket similar to yours.
Everyone has already said how wonderful this is (especially compared to other stash videos). Even some of the things I've made before, I never thought of as stash busters somehow!! Love this!

I tend to work on small things anyways, and I pull apart the yarn plys of DK yarn to give myself a thinner yarn. I made an amigurumi "Monster" who is very cute and cuddly and I painstakingly knitted him a doll sized scarf with size 1 needles. I'm very proud of him.
Oh also, plastic canvas projects and felting projects are fantastic for using up even the smallest scraps of yarn!

I just stumbled across this video as it came on after another one I had been watching. I’m glad it did. I agree with the others that your voice is so calming. You went above and beyond in the replies as well.
I tend to use some of my “leftover” stash for trying out 12” squares before committing to an entire afghan. I have almost enough to make one for our bed. So looking forward to that getting done.
I’ve also picked up unfinished yarn projects at yard sales, usually free, as the sellers just wanted to get rid of it. It’s fun trying to decipher the patterns.
I’m going to go looking for more of your videos! I hope I find a few!
The crocodile stitch also helps use up leftover stash. I’ve made 3 backpacks using the stitch and they are all still being used!

Afghans are great projects for leftover yarn. From reading comments on this video, I'm not the only one that would agree. That's so awesome you almost have enough for an entire afghan! So much yarn. So when you try out your squares, is this to see if you have enough yarn or to try out new stitch patterns? I'm imagining you make many squares and sew together to make the afghan, is that what you do?
I have never thought to find another person's project and try to figure out what they were doing. (I do that with my own projects lol). I can see how that would be fun. Do you take those with the intention of finishing the pattern or just for the yarn?

Thank you for gathering all these resources and posting this video. There are some really wonderful ideas. I've made hair ties and soap savers and I wish I had seen your video before buying a coin purse! In relation to tableware, I've also made coffee cup cozies. I like them because it saves from getting one at the cafe. Now if I can only crochet the coffee cup and shrink my waste even more! Oh well, small steps :)

That's a drag about the coin purse, but maybe it's a pattern to save for later, when you're new coin purse is full haha. They're also really great for gifts too. It’s great to see some ideas for my scraps from loom knitting, which I just started last month. I’ve found I don’t have enough yarn for knitting projects, but I learned to crochet when I was a kid, and I’m excited to have something to do with the leftover bits, especially since my mom just refound her hooks and doesn’t really want them anymore.
The slipper pattern seems like it’d be nice for babies or even dolls, depending on what leftovers you have! I’ve been wanting to make something cute for my cousin who is trying to conceive so that I can send a nice present when she announces a baby is on the way!

I find your comment very interesting because I just crocheted a unicorn lovey (stuffed animal/blanket) for my cousin who has a baby on the way. I was able to use up some of my leftover yarn from previous projects. It felt so good to repurpose old yarn I've had for years into a new item that will be cherished by a loving family. I love the Daybreak wall tapestry. It looks complicated, but the other tapestry (white not as grand) looks like one I could do. I love the boho vibe of both. Also I like the gift wrapping ideas. You accumulated a wonderful variety of ideas for busting a yarn stash. Thank you.
I have sooo much cotton yarn from when I was convinced I had to make cotton throw blankets. To use up skeins, I made a huge basket that I use as a hamper and then now I’m making a book bag for classes.
I’m definitely making the soap saver bag and the sakura face scrubbies with a little basket to hold them. Thanks for the ideas !
Lol! Cotton yarn is really good to have in your stash, but sounds like you are overrun with it. I have always wanted to crochet a large basket, but haven't ever conquered a project of your size. Did you make it up or follow a pattern? That's clever, love the idea of a book bag....crocheted.

I've made a pretty large stuffed toy just using random scraps of yarn, it turned out so cute and colourful! Highly recommend using up scraps of all kinds of colours to give items pops of colours!

Miss Homey, at the 9:45 minute mark, you used the phrase "mug rug", I made them starting 10 years ago, I just called them "coffee cup hot pads"! I think "mug rug" is a funner word play for the item! That's how I'll refer to the from now on!🤭👍. I'm a guy, left handed, and, I crochet left handedly-backwards left to right! 58 years old-as of November 9th. That gift flower could easily go on a hair clip, pin, or other accessory. Make multiples, and you could use them as an appliqué or decoration on one of those baskets. I have a variegated yarn that I could use that for. Thank you for making this video. My yarnivore brain is humming now, and my scrap stash is calling me!

@@SewHomey I truthfully love them, I used cotton for all of them. I made a bigger one in Alpine stitch for the bath, which looks so cool hanging over the bath handle, two smaller for my face, one a flower. My skin feels amazing after using them and have ditched harsh exfoliating gloves, I just feel they do the job more gently.

I've had the best intentions to use my cotton yarn and make the patterns suggested in this video. It keeps getting put on the back burner. @@lizzyluna2414 That is honestly one of my favorite categories too. It's amazing how you can paint with yarn. When I saw some of the wall hangings as I was researching for this video, I was awestruck how you could make something like that with yarn.
Currently, I'm liking the look of macrame wall hangings. I made a crochet version of one that I really liked. I'm hoping to release a video and pattern for it in time for summer. It was really fun to make and it's awesome to decorate your home with pieces that you made and absolutely love! I do hope you try crocheting a wall hanging!!!

Great ideas! I've wondered what to do with extras and not waste....
It just seems so hard to part with the little scraps, but after years of this hobby it becomes out of control...at least for me. It's fun to think outside the box and try to combine colors and patterns to make something you love and will use. I do hope that you were able to gain inspiration and choose a pattern to try out!

For the pouches, Tinna Thorudottir Thorvaldar has a great idea of how to crochet this around the pouches, removing the need for sewing it on.

I have been chrocheting since I was,7 years old. And I have a big yarns stash to.
Wow! Not going to ask how old you are lol but I will assume quite a bit older than 7... I can't imagine what my stash would look like if I had learned to crochet that young. I think that is very cool that you learned to crochet that young!

Yes my Nana taught me that young she was old fashioned and she said you can watch TV but always have a project in your hands like a little lady
So she taught me how to chrochet,knit and all different arts and crafts
And I was age 7 my grandparents adopted my brother and I. My real mother died i was 3 and my father died I was 6.
I made a patch work quilt with mine.

I'll do my best to explain. Yarn is divided into different weights, and all that means is the thickness of the yarn. For example, "lace weight" refers to a super thin yarn, which you can probably imagine. So "worsted weight" refers to a medium sized yarn. I have not made bookmarks myself. I’ve made flowers that could work for bookmarks. But I actually remember coming across a pattern or two when I made this video. I can see if I can find those again if you’re interested

Great range of ideas, well-presented. Wish people realized there is no ‘pretty unique” or “very unique”. (3 times in the last minute!). Unique means one of a kind.

Hi, thanks for the question! You can find free patterns all over the place. I like to use Ravelry because you can narrow your search by many different filters. I also find them on blogs. I'm a huge fan of searching for specific patterns on Google or Pinterest. Usually there is a free pattern floating out there. There is also Love Crafts, but I haven't personally used that one as much.
your idea is great. I will use some of your ideas, however, you should never say free pattern because it is almost to get them for free ou should have them on your site. For that reason, I can not like your post
