Nice
Note: You cannot change the badge to have a rotary knob without changing that part of the pcb or the whole board.
@Felix rude.
@Felix Maybe as if they should have clarified that.
Finally a keyboard guy
FINALLY YOU GOT A KEYBOARD GUY
ITS THE OTHER KEYBOARD GUY
Lets fuckin goo
wow hey it's the keyboard rhino or whatever
THOCC
James is also one
Did he just casually pull out some random switches from his pocket like it was candy??
This man is beyond saving. He is too deep into the rabbit hole
Wouldn't have been cooler though if they would have gotten some black person on their crew though? They act as if we're tech illiterate, which only furthers the stereotype that we actually are by not representing us and contributing to the problem of racism as a whole. I've been following Linus and his Crew since the beginning, but I think I'm going to unsubscribe from them tonight. Nothing will ever be done, unless we the customers have shown these companies that enough is enough.
@@alexanderfrancis3008??? What are you saying?
He could almost be an r/mechanicalkeyboards mod
@@alexanderfrancis3008 What the hell are you actually talking about? You're legitimately insane to imply that any company "needs" black people. Forced diversity is terrible and always backfires since it's not about quality, but rather about meeting a quota. They hire based on application and if there are people that are unfit for hire, then they aren't hired and that's about that. That's also incredibly pretentious to assume that there are that many black people applying at all, for all we know there's 1% or fewer, but there's no point even thinking about since once again it is something we have no knowledge of. Not just that, but not once have they made any defamatory or negative comments towards any black person in the decade or so that I've been watching them, so to say "They act as if we're tech illiterate" is outright idiotic. I'm half black and hate seeing people spout this diversity nonsense when it has zero impact on the content whatsoever. Please unsubscribe if your ignorance here is any display of what you bring to the community, I'm certain everyone will be happier with that outcome.

you know he's the keyboard enthusiast when he casually bringing a bunch of switches like they're candies
no keyboard enthusiast does this, if anything this exposes him as the opposite, it was very cringe.
@@activist5741 So every "normal" person does have switches in their pockets? I don't. PS: It's a joke.
Hey there! As a fellow tech enthusiast, I highly recommend checking out the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule. It's a game-changer for maintaining a clean and spotless environment around your desk, car, and more. With its powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities, multiple tubes, high-quality filters, and swift keyboard cleaning feature, it's a reliable tool to keep your setup in top shape. Plus, the price is quite reasonable compared to other brands. Give it a try!
get this guy to review keyboards from now on. he actually knows what hes talking about
Yeah it seems that he's in the rabbit hole as well
that
Just wanted to say so.
He just carries around switches in his pocket for some reason. And he has unreasonably strong opinions about specific types of switches.
He's an expert.
he is the rabbit hole comrade
3:19 my guy really just carries around like 6 different switches
16*
wtf is that timestamp?? you mean 3:19
@@ightimmaheadout290 yea I thought that was the one I put but how did my comment get to 400 likes even with the wrong timestamp in the first place lmao
Finally someone who actually knows what they are talking about. Please have this guy do all future keyboard reviews. But still disappointed there isn't a reveal to the inside of the board. Would like to see the plate cutout and mounting method that is used on this.
Yeah that's right. The board is a really good gasket mount with a lot of flex, especially compared to the gmmk pro. It would've been nice if they had shown some of this
You can check Dave2D's video he did on this, he showed the whole inside of this keyboard
Easy there, big fella! We're trying to run a clean site here!
It's a shortcircuit vid. Just unboxings and first impressions
Check Dave's video, he also did a mini mod on the keyboard plus spoke a bit about the rotary accessory instead of badge which atm is not available.
This guy REALLY knows what's he's talking about, honestly why hasn't he been in all your keyboard videos?
I was worried they'd have someone who isn't knowledgeable about the custom keyboard hobby and it'd make for a bad video, as that is the target market for the product.
Likewise, I think they put people closer to the target market for other keyboards.
>this guy really knows what he's talking about
>mentions nothing about mounting mechanism (which is the main highlight of this board), typing feel and acoustics (shits super hollow)
>ok
(even though this is just an unboxing i still think its necessary to mention the above features since this is aimed towards custom mech newcomers)
@@205g0 I'll admit you are right about both of these things but I stand by my statement cause he mentions alot of other things that I feel many others in the ltt crew would have missed, and overall he seems like he could add alot to future keyboard unboxings/reviews.
@@205g0 they does not seem to aim shortcircuit content at deeply invested people anyway, mentioning those might be a bit confusing for fresh viewers in a way. Those can always be learned down the hole and much better as an experience imo (especially the sound)
@@thanhlengoc3805 Short Circuit has always been about unboxing of products that companies send them, NOT A REVIEW. They never go in depth about the content. If the product is actually interesting, then they'll do a full review of it on LTT. The whole purpose of this channel is to showcase products that otherwise would've been ignored on LTT because it would negatively effect the channel.
I really liked Nicholas as a presenter - he has both great knowledge of keyboards, and great delivery skills. Would love to see him on camera more often!
So refreshing to see someone in ltt deep in the custom mechanic keyboard rabbit hole. GET THIS MAN HIS OWN CHANNEL.
It would have to have a pretty smart and catchy name like they did for this channel and the mac channel. I personally think that Mac Address and Short Circuit are pretty awesome channel names.
But then again, imo, the mech keyboard community is relatively small compared the Mac community and the general PC tech community. So it’s probably not too plausible for them. But, the number of people getting in to mech keyboards is rising fast recently, so it may be possible.
"they're normally 50 cents to $1.10 every switch" he's never settled for less lmao
I think he’s using Canadian pricing budget switches usually start at 40 cents here
@@helium_uwu1011 was going to say besides frankenswitches I've never paid that much
@@MrRockstarnailbomb Zilents cost $1.2 per switch.
Every keybs guy eventually end up with some Gateron Yellows. It’s soooo cheap.
@@matasa7463 I’m getting the Q1 with the Gateron Reds, is it worth buying some yellows to throw in there or no?
Finally, Nick seems to know what he's talking about. Y'all needed a keyboard guy since forever. He proved himself just by having switches in his pocket like he knew he'd need switches at a random time.
I like how knowledgeable the host is, especially with the terminologies. But I also appreciate how to cameraguy asks for clarification.
South facing LEDs also means that there won't be interference with Cherry profile keycaps like GMK sets
Also means it'll reduce the effect of the RGB if you wanna use shine through caps.
@@st0nedpenguin RGB is overrated
@@SpektrikMusic Yet it's included.
@@st0nedpenguin Yeah, but in the mkb scene we generally don't really go for RGB. I personally like it myself, but you will have to consider the fact that no matter the LED brightness and placement, you'll still need transparent switches to really have it show through.
Honestly, it's rarely ever that useful, it's more of a way to customize the looks and set the tone/atmosphere of the room.
@@st0nedpenguin I heard soutfacing is supposed to sound better, cause cherry designed the caps this way. is that true?
4:40 when you want to disconnect your keyboard but you don’t want to reach to the back, you can just disconnect the type-c side of the connector😅
the idea is that you have different plugs to machines with aviator connectors. i.e. thank god I discovered r/mk, now I will *never* have money for drugs.
@@PhilipAlexanderHassialis “911? I think there’s a keyboard dealer on our frontyard”
Really loving Nicholas' addition to the team. He knows what he's talking about and presents that knowledge very well. Also just really happy you finally have a keyboard guy, no offense to everyone else at LMG.
Please have this guys review more keyboards, he really knows his stuff.
I still have no idea who this is, he just seemingly came out of nowhere
The south-facing LED thing actually indicates compatibility with GMK keycaps.
If the LEDs are north-facing, the switches would need to be installed upside-down, which will interfere with the installation of Cherry profile keycaps such as GMK, and it makes the board feel and sound bad.
Oh yeah, y'all got yourselves a knowledgeable host when it comes to keyboards
Lmao I love how he casually got some expensive switches out of his pocket, I wish I could casually get out some Kiwi's, Tangie's or Dragon Fruit's out of my pocket LUL
Finally, someone that knows what he is talking about reviewing keyboard (yet, doesn't have that gatekeeping vibe). Good video!
I really enjoy Nicolas' short circuts, keep'em coming boys!! Thank you for the share
do not expect your space bar or keys to sound like this. as a mechanical keyboard enthusiast i can tell you right now, this keyboard was optimized as much as it could be for what it is. this and the gmmk pro, both keyboards of this price point are not going to sound this way being sent to you as a non-youtuber. the same way they took the time to make custom branding and key-caps for this review unit is pretty apparent they took the time to tune the stabilizers and possibly hand lube the switches. if you do buy this keyboard, make sure to listen to your space-bar and come back to this video. you will see what i mean. your keyboard is not going to sound like this. not trying to ruin anyone's fun, i just think its important you guys understand as folks coming from a mostly computer and tech channel, keyboard companies often send optimized builds, the same way graphics card manufactures send higher binned GPUs to review channels to show the optimum benchmark scores.
Omg I didn't realize how much more energy and more expressive you are in newer videos. It's cool to see you guys grow over time, keep up the amazing hosting Plouffe.
it's a pretty cool board, i've been thinking of getting a mech and this is on the consideration list right away after i saw it. and this dude know his board for sure lol
Di-Electric grease is magical. I coated an EGR in a 5 cylinder diesel engine with that stuff and 6 months later when we went to pull it out, it literally slid out like butter (once the bolts were removed) as opposed to being seized in the intake manifold.
It often takes a couple of months before I like a new writer. But this is the second video I have seen of you and I already like you. Good job!
Best keyboard reviewer you had up to now. Good info and in a manner that even non-keyboards enthusiasts will get.
I am surely getting one of the bare-bones kit and put on some Blank Ink switches and an MT3 profile keycap set.
the disappointment when he said that all the keebs had brown switches, I feel bad, but on the upside its hot-swap so no biggie. Also, I'm glad that someone actually knows about mech keyboards at the centre.
Keychron brown not mx brown tho right
preference, a lot of people like light tactile switches like browns
On the plus side you can get this board completely barebones for 149 US atm so if you want your own switches + caps theres that for ya.
i think he means that all the boards they received r browns but keychron offers reds and blues
Yeah, but a pack of 100 switches from MKK usually runs me $100 USD & keycap sets start at $30 USD. For a $20 difference, In the Q1’s $100+ price range, I’d just get the pre-built board for the extra switches/keys
Really enjoyed this video, hope to see him more
Good to see a custom keyboard guy at LTT. He seems chill, wouldn't mind longer-format more in-depth keyboard content from him - modding boards for better acoustics, modding switches etc. He's got a perfect balance of being knowledgeable about the hobby without the holier-than-thou attitude
Best keyboard content you've released ever guys! Please bring him back for future keeb content!
Really enjoyed this video. Hope to see more keyboard reviews in the future. Typing this from my Keychron K2.
I’d love to see more custom keyboard building videos, a how to guide!
Love my K2 Keychron and I'm keen to get me some more keycaps now! Great product and thanks for the review.
Love this guy! Great review! I'm personally fine without the 'flipper angle feet' -- I've had those break on me often. And, they're usually only found on 'budget' keyboards :).
Plouffe is a great host! Love the videos he hosts
I have a Keychrone c1 and I love it, it’s a great budget keyboard!
i loved the pocket of switches. there's something very satisfying about those colorful technology cubes. i should really get into mechanical keyboards finally
The linux keycaps are a nice touch actually, kudos for that
Love the Keychron stuff; I got a K2 with browns last year and never looked back. best keyboard I've ever owned
I knew there was a whole world around custom keyboards, but never knew anything about lubing or anything like that. Pretty cool, learned something today.
I've bought 2 75% keebs in 2 weeks. Got into the Thera75 GB for my first plateless build last week. I've been waiting for something I can take to work without a worry, I think the Q1 will be just that. Already have some Lavenders lubed and ready to go, just gonna have to do some modding to masks the Q1 sound better.
Just an FYI, they announced here within the next week they're raising the price another $10 for barebones and assembled. So barebones will be $160. Also shipping can be a bit expensive too. Overall super solid looking keyboard!
Rolling a 104 low-pro K1 with browns. Love this thing.
I love the low profile cherry silent reds in the k70 something about them with O rings that I can't really describe. I even came up with a separate concept based off it and was going to try and submit it to them, but I know I'll probably get ignored.
This dude literally has a handful of random switches in his pocket, what a madlad.
indeed sick guy
FINALLY A KEYBOARD ENTHUSIAST IN LMG.
I've been waiting for LTT to get more in to custom mechanical keyboards, its only a matter time till they fall down the rabbit hole. Excited to see more options like this hit the market to introduce more people to the hobby.
I have been looking for what kind of key type I should get. 4 years ago was the last video of key types. The one before that was another 4 years. Time for a new video. And this presenter would be great for it.
Hey there! As a fellow tech enthusiast, I highly recommend checking out the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule for cleaning your desktop setup. With its powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities, it's perfect for keeping your workspace spotless. Plus, its multiple tubes, high-quality filters, and efficient storage make it a versatile cleaning tool. Definitely worth considering!
Most knowledgeable and passionate mechanical keyboard guy ever. I want to see him in more videos lol
I love my clicky box pinks but if i ever find the time i'd also love to build a keyboard with some silent black inks(which i'd also have to lube so that's a lot of work) just to have something completely different that would also work as well as possible in environments where i have to be a bit more quiet.
Did a double take reading this. I have a Box Pink board I adore and am looking at buying and lubing black inks for something drastically different. I just can't get used to the lack of tactility yet, but a silent board would be nice. I do enjoy Pinks sounding like a summer rain every time I have a writing session, but its not perfect for work by any means
I'm kinda keen on those switches actually, they sound pretty great and the pre-lubed aspect is always appreciated. Not sure about the coloured switch housings, though, I feel like that'd mess up your RGB colours too much
This guy knows his crap. There should be a series of him re-reviewing all of the other keyboards
I love my Keychron K8, after doing the foam mod it's perfect
For the enthusiast crowd, the board will need a good amount of modding. For the customer just looking or a solid keyboard, it will be good.
If you want to see the colors a bit better, maybe look at shine through keycaps or pudding keycaps
I love your style. You just come across as so overwhelmingly nice and pleasant, just had to say it.
We want an LTT keyboard channel with this guy
@7:55 ... looks like old, yellowed plastic and the classic grey keys. Nice. :D
I've had a Keychron K1 v4 TKl with Gateron browns for about half a year now. It's an excellent keyboard, and I don't really have any major annoyances with it.
Other major benefit to aviator connectors is being able to hotswap your connector between different USB types, e.g. Micro B/Mini B/C
I'm not sure when LTT got an actual keyboard head on staff but I'm glad they did.
Might have to get this as a secondary board, I love my Keychron K2 bluetooth 70%
4:40 can't you just unplug the type-c connector from the keyboard?
Well that isn't what it is actually for, it is to either switch cable without reaching behind your computer or switching computer. Tho that last one is a little odd but you can. This usually isn't why people get them. Mostly the look.
Someone from LTT who knows that switches don't start and end with cherry mx :) This and the GMMK Pro are pretty decent intro boards. The only thing that sucks about this is the $30 shipping to the US. International shipping always hurts. I would personally absolutely sacrifice the gasket flex for a thicker foam layer though.
I feel like the warning is less about avoiding bent pins and more about ripping the hot swap socket away from the pads on the pcb.
wait gaterons keys now come pre-lubed? Does that mean if i buy a different model from Keychron they might be lubed as well?
get this man on top of reviewing every mechanical keyboard in existance
More keyboard vids by Nicholas please! This guy's got kiwis, tangerines and dragonfruits, he knows what he's talking about.
Been looking for a keyboard upgrade recently, looking to move to wireless finally but i'd also like a 90% keyboard so that I maintain a numPad whilst saving some desk space. Keychron do one called the K4 so thank you for doing a video on this keyboard because you might have just found me my next purchase :)
have linus teach him some corny segway and he's all set. hoping to see more of him with keyboard content.
Don't disconnect aviator connectors when your keyboard is plugged in. They are not designed to be hot pluggable and might screw your usb controller. Usually, hot pluggable switches have ground connection disconnected first and then other pins are disconnected (like your USB connector housing or extra long pin in PCI).
I just bought Keychron K4 and getting Drop MT3 white-on-black caps and swapping out the gateron switches with BOX Jades))))
Keychron finally adds support for QMK! Now their boards might actually be worth recommending.
Considering their goal is to create "the most sophisticated mechanical keyboard" it's about time.
Because their boards have been wireless and there is no way for QMK firmware to work with BT-enabled PCBs
@@flygonex10 QMK or not I would have liked to see some kind of on-board customization. That is why I bought an Epomaker board over them. But seeing this move gives me hope that they might be able to figure out a solution in the future.
Thanks Keychron for announcing this right after I got the K2
As someone who has had really bad luck with switches in bags I got the aqua kings in a bag and more than half of them had pins that were so bent they weren't usable. And I spent $90 on a set of those.
Where can I buy this keyboard in the white / orange LTT combo.? I’ve looked on the manufacturers website and LTT Store. The only options on Keychrons website were terminally Dull.
I never herd a pre built sound that good stock and cost that much, amazing.
I love the customizability of the Q1 but I gotta have 100% or full scale. I hope they get that option next year.
Do a video on lubing a keyboard. I've been building 15 years and that's a new one for my corner of the world
wildcat does some good videos
Glad to see a keyboard enthusiast in the LMG! :D One of us~! One of us~!
Bruh this dude actually knows what he's talking about and explains it really well lol
Wow these look and sound great. Definitely going to replace my K2.
This looks like a decent answer to the GMMK Pro. I am curious if someone is going to do a comparison between the two boards
I'd love if they released a low-profile keyboard like the K1 with proper RGB software support. Still waiting on that promise to come to fruition.
More keyboard layouts and spacing like this pls
Some decent keyboard knowledge, but didn't talk about the mounting system (Gasket) and its place in the rest of the market (a direct shot at Glorious' GMMK Pro among other competitors)!
I have their bluetooth blues numpadless one ( wish i got browns but whatevs) and other than the switches themselves ( my fault) It is a great keyboard. Bluetooth latency is almost non-existent besides the occasional connection mishap (it has a wired option too!) and in general the thing works really well. Will probably only buy keychron in the future if this thing lasts a long time, lol.
Not sure if it's right, but according to Dave2D, the rotary switch on the top corner may only be for models with an updated board (later release update). If you buy one now, the hardware might not be compatible with the new switch when it releases. Here's hoping they update their 65% case too an aluminium one too. Would be so keen to upgrade!!
I've got the keychron k4 and I modded it out. I like it but I don't recommend getting that size. 75% looks like the perfect balance
The Q1 looks fantastic and i will buy the knob version
Ok I like this guy he knows what he is talking about when it comes to keyboards.
This was nice! More!!
Finally you have someone that actually knows what they’re talking about!
Really reminds me of Lew from Unbox Therapy. Probably his lost brother. 😄
Great review!
Keyboard porn.
"I like lubing and filming switches."
All of a sudden, images of slomo button pushing, in my mind.
Are these with the revised case foam? Because I feel like they sound less pingy and hollow compared to the ones in the other reviews I saw.
i think its just the mic and audio processing
I like this guy. He’s chill and I appreciate it
