The Best Wireless Mechanical Keyboard for Mac? Keychron Q1 Pro Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 тра 2023
- I finally managed to get my hands on the Keychron Q1 Pro, which builds upon the success of its popular 75% keyboard predecessor by adding advanced features such as Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity and a polycarbonate PCB plate. In this video, I compare the Pro to the original Q1 & demonstrate some of the modifications I've used to get the most out of these mechanical keyboards.

Just got the Q1 pro barebone in Shell White, still waiting for switches and caps though. But man, straight out of the box this feels like a tank! The rotary encoder and knob feel amazing, very smooth and precise. I will never buy a mainstream pre-built plastic Ducky, Corsair or Logitech ever again, this is so much better! It's my first custom board and I don't really have anything else to compare it to than those plastic ones, but it feels great so far. Still, I'm going to add some dampening in the bottom of the shell.
Hopefully this trend of highly customizable boards will just increase over time and larger companies will jump on it too, I don't mind spending $300-400 or even more on a board if the quality is there.
Great mods! Sounds much better!
Other than index finger spacebar 😅 great review mate keep it up !!
nice review! ⌨
sick video dude. what is the grid desk mat are you using ?
Great review mate. Even better tutorial and hacks to improve it!

I would recommend the force break mod. It's simple to do and makes the most difference (even the mods in your video). It gets rid of the annoying pinging noise.
Hey there! Have you considered trying out the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? It's a compact and powerful device that combines vacuuming and blowing capabilities, perfect for keeping your desk and living spaces spotless. It's also great for cleaning your car's interior and even inflating items like a kayak. Plus, it's portable and lightweight for on-the-go use. Give it a shot, I think you'll find it quite handy!
Well done for keeping a straight face when saying ‘otherwise known as a KNOB’ 😂
Looks like a nice board. Keychron’s Pro series is full of interesting products- been loving my K3 Pro.
Haha it took a couple of extra takes but got there in the end! Keychron are smashing it recently, definitely my go-to recommendation for anyone looking to get into the hobby 👌🏻
😂 I was just away to comment this!
Hey! If you're looking for an awesome gadget to optimize your desktop setup, I recommend checking out the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule. It's a compact device that offers powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities. Perfect for keeping your desk spotless and even cleaning your car's interior. It's a reliable tool with great features! 😄🔧🚀
High quality video, 100k subs in no time! Keep going! The boards seems to be nice, will consider it
Blooming brilliant. I like it. Can u get a white or clear poly top plate for better RGB reflection?
What changed in the Q2?
Pretty sure there’s a Poly plate option, but stock hasn’t been great recently. The Q2 is a 65% board with no function keys compared to the Q1’s 75% layout 👌🏼
I would recommend the Nuphy Halo 75 in white. (No mods) Night breeze switches are good.
Loved the video! I have a stupid question about the Kilmat sound dampening, did you peel and stick them into the case or did you put them in unpeeled?
Hey there! Thanks for your comment. Based on the article title and your question about sound dampening, I think you might find the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule interesting. It's a compact device with powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities, perfect for maintaining a spotless desktop setup. It also offers quick and efficient keyboard cleaning. Overall, it's a great tool for optimizing your tech experience. Hope that helps!
nice to know you are a fan of knobs :)
What mouse is that? Is it the MX Master 3S? Do you encounter any stuttering? Thinking of getting it but concerned about this Mac / Logitech stuttering issue.
Does the keyboard support wireless via a usb dongle? I need to use the keyboard at boot time and BT connects after the OS boots 😂
I would recommend a tape mod ( adding 3 layers of masking/painters tape to the back of the PCB (there are tutorials online) )
What kind of music instalation do you have on your desk?
Horizontal scrolling for the knob? Y arent u using the side wheel of your MX master?
Great video !! I'm looking for a video about a special edition for a week, Is any difference between normal and special edition ?
Just the colour scheme I believe!
What is the name of the item you put in the bottom case?
if I remember correctly, handling Kilmat without gloves isn't the safest, but I could be wrong, just a heads up
Sounds great! While people want to balk at the price it's only a few dollars more than an Apple keyboard with touchID and I'm sure types much better!
Weird, that you set up knob for horizontal scrolling, when Logi Mx mouse has horizontal scroll as well.
Thank you for this review.
@JorgePowell what is the keycap set you went with? I’ve got a Q1 pro in route and am switching from an Apple keyboard, so I’m interested in lower profile caps.
You may get a low profile mechanical keyboard from keychron too
Great video! What’s the song in the intro called?
Try once more
when connected does it always charge the battery, or this a way to bypass it
The battery would stay idle when using wired
Is that still the 42” C2 TV or have you switched to another LG panel?
I’ve since switched back to the 32 inch LG Ergo, I addressed this in my living room tour but the short version is basically that it’s not a great monitor experience despite the incredible visuals. The hunt for my perfect display continues! 😅
ffs i just bought my first mechanical, a Gmmk Pro, only thing it was missing was the wireless stuff... well well, i had to start somewhere... rabbit hole next!
That’s a great looking board, I’ve heard they’re a bit harder to modify but I definitely think they’re a solid choice
I have the Q1 non-pro with the same layout. I didn't realize it at the time, but losing the dedicated END key is a huge setback....I instinctively use it all the time. So I went and got myself a K10 which is a full layout and all is well in the world again.... I'd sacrifice the knob to get that key back. Side by side with my K10 Pro there is no real difference in typing feel and sound, they are both pretty similar overall.
Bought a different keyboard? Lol why not just remap the pgdn to home?
@@dave4347 I use all those keys often...Page Down/Up Home and End.
@@raymondii436 I'm moving away from 60% for the same reason! I use even use pgup and pgdn. I don't know when I started using it but now I'm irritated with my ducky one 2 mini. I'm surprised myself too.
@@bassyey Yeah, I don't know why other people don't miss some of those keys, but I use them all the time. When reading documents-> page/up-down. And when editing docs and coding, I often jump to the beginning of the line and end of the line using HOME/END. I'll stick to 80 or 100% keyboards from now on.
I have the Q1 Pro. Fn+Home is pre-programmed to be End on the board. I got used to that change pretty quickly.
wow cool 🤩🤩
I want a mechanical keybaord but hearing either of these keyboard click sounds gives me this like instinctual rage response. I dont know why but that sound just makes me mad for some reason???
Out of interest why did you not go for the ISO version? :)
Just personal preference, plus it’s usually easier to get compatible keycap sets 👌🏼
Awesome vid though dude :) I'm after one! But branching out with a nuphy halo 75 first as I can't justify the money for a bare bones build of the q1 😅😅 :)
Wait, he said the switch doesn't change the sound profile of the board??? That's a first...
He also reads the comments 👀 I think that’s a fair statement, no? There’s obviously a slight change in sound frequency, but I usually find that modifications make the biggest difference to the overall sound profile
Keychron Q1 Pro's bluetooth interferes severely with other bluetooth devices, especially speakers and earphones, making them unusable.
that is quite a surprise
could you describe your experience in more detail? Other devices get disconnected?
Not buying any Keychron in the future, very disappointed by their K1, battery life goes to only 20% after 1 year of use, and frequently disconnect with the bluetooth on Macbook
I really don't get comments about sound and breaking it down to modify. It's keyboard you not going to bed with it. Why can't you spend $200 an let it be. My head hurting from $200. So definitely not doing anything to increase cost more.
People care because mods will often times enhance the experience of using the keyboard.
Come on bruv. As a brit you should've had at least a hint of a smile when saying knob 🍆
Haha mate I was only just holding it together 🫠
Bad sound even after mod 😂😂
Bluetooth keyboards are ASS when it comes to latency and fast typing.
It is 2.4 GHz connection built in, it is very negligible latency to wired-which it can also do
