I'd like you to do a video on how poor people can get the most nutrition dense food on the cheap. This would help starving students, low-income seniors and the disabled, the unemployed, etc. I mean assuming they can only afford a few foods, which foods should they get that would give them the biggest bang for their bucks?

Funny how people are so concerned about getting enough protein but don't give one thought to antioxidants.
Athletes assume they need to chug protein after a workout (turns out carbs post workout are more important) while antioxidants consumption has been shown to have a huge impact on recovery from exercise and no one ever talks about it.

I went completely vegan, added about 10% raw to my diet, stopped any processed food, no alcohol and no oil. Pretty much followed what Mic said. My doctor was unhappy when I stopped taking carbimazole and prednisone but that stuff decimates gut health, plus the weight gain from prednisone was sucking my will to live. Now, I eat healthy, exercise regularly and avoid all junk. I also watch Pick Up Limes because she is a qualified dietician and Gojiman because he talks a lot about improving gut health.

I just made a big batch of soup last night in a stock pot. I put in navy beans, edamame, broccoli slaw, sliced grape tomatoes, Onion, carrots, celery, curry powder (a lot), homemade veggie stock (made from veggie cuttings). I don't usually think about what is in most of my food when I fix it. I figure I'm getting whatever I need and my labs are perfect. For breakfast I put together old-fashion oats, chopped walnuts, Hemp seeds, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, fresh golden figs, kale, and douse it with almond milk, and warm it up it the microwave. Sometimes I may add some cinnamon and nutmeg. All very yummy! When I remember to, I also add some of my homemade "ground meat" which is made up of riced cauliflower, riced mushrooms, and ground walnuts, which has been mixed together, spread onto parchment paper in a baking pan, baked at 350 for 20 minutes, stirred and baked for another 20 minutes.

    No. . .
Plants create antioxidants for themselves, not us. Turns out plants love light, but only visible spectrum light. They hate UV light, just like us.

I've read a couple of articles online that claim that antioxidants in food only benefit those whose cells are already being damaged by one of more factors (red meat, smoking/pollutants, alcohol, sugar, etc.). Their theory is that, if you already live a healthy lifestyle, the antioxidant properties of certain vegetables will have no real effect, as there are no cells to fix (they didn't negate the fact that whole vegetables are still a good idea for several other reasons, just not for their antioxidants). I'm curious about the science behind these claims- I myself have no talent for science whatever.

Great video Mic! I think that for the masses, just a general "eat more fruits, veggies and leafy greens" is a good enough directive since most people strike out on the basics. This stuff is for the more advanced health seekers (like me). One point to remember though is that if you're adding bell peppers to your cooked foods and thinking you're getting your vitamin C on, you'd be wrong. Vitamin C is the most heat sensitive vitamin and heat really destroys it. You would have very little to no vitamin C left, depending on the length of the cooking and the heat. Love your videos! ❤️

Costco sells a power greens mix of kale, spinach and swiss chard. We poke the bag of greens with small holes using an ice pick and press all the air out of the bag. Then we put the deflated bag of greens in the freezer under our 20-lb. bag of ice or something else heavy for 24 hours. When frozen, we pull the greens bag out of the freezer and gently crush it to a powder, taking care not to break the bag. (That's why you want to make small holes). Then pour the frozen green powder into a gallon zip lock freezer bag. You now have fresh power greens powder to add to any meal or smoothie you desire. The greens never get slimy and they disappear into what ever you're making.

Oxidative stress is required for cell signalling. Too many anti oxidants, can interfere with apoptosis. I think the compounds in the plants are not what they seem, some are pro oxidative in some tissues, but this might be why it is helpful. Green tea for example, has both anti and pro oxidative qualities. Same with curcumin. It is possible that fruits and veggies are good for us in ways we do not fully understand.

Its not actually worth doing the calculation to get optimal antioxidants no.
Not for an extra few hundred ORAC points because there's no data that shows more is better, but prehaps the opposite.
There is also sketchy to no data that antioxidants extend life.
Best bet is a good amount from a cheap source constantly over time, teas seem to be best as you can fast at the same time.
