A great to Dire Straits and their song Sultans of Swing. Burch couldn't believe that the video cut the end solo short which is one of the most iconic guitar parts of the rock era. Here is the link to the Brian Johnson interview where Mark talks about the songs origin • Mark Knopfler reveals ...

You guys should listen What It Is from Mark Knopfler
Due to the length of the song they had to shorten it for radio. The album version is the full length.
The Dad was right, how dare they cut off Mark's legendary solo
Yes...he was so right to play the outro solo for her! That solo is iconic....It is a trademark solo for Mark Knopfler....As a guitar player I have to hear it .... I've spent hours trying to learn it
I think it was the radio edit.
He is not her father
Here is our introduction video Rafael ua-cam.com/video/Kp-qS6Djl6c/v-deo.html
@@vibingwithvinyl Unwritten rule in radio was not to talk over that iconic outro.
Burch is an OG. He knows you MUST hear the full solo. Awesome job guys!
That's right!
When that video ended I felt the same way. I was like WTF? The solo isn't done yet.
This is the start of the legend, Mark Knopfler, you should watch the live version of this song from the Alchemy live concert.
100 %
Nice reaction! Should have chosen the Alchemy Live version though - it showcases even more how fantastically understated MK's guitar playing is...
totally agree... their best performance ever
that one is just insane
I like i think the wembley live version better with the saxophone
This song will always be one of my favorite songs not just because it’s an awesome song, but because I have very specific memory and feelings from my teenage years. I was at a friends house one summer evening and it was perfect weather, perfect temperature, nice breeze, his pool water was perfect, and not a care in the world. His mother and father were blasting some pretty cool tunes and this is one of them. And for some reason for the 3 1/2, four minutes that this song was on, everything just seemed right in the world. When I don’t hear this song for a while, and I hear again, it brings me back to those times.
this song and album were known to me and my group of 19/20 year olds as the " Sunday morning after a banger Saturday nigh" music. The music scene was ripe with amazing original stuff, so we didnt see the iconic nature until later in life. It truly is a song that places you within great memories. The Alchemy version may be the best version.
Glad Alexis was watching with someone that knew the song so she didn't miss out on that solo at the end.
You want to hear the best version search it with “alchemy live” the extended live solo is amazing! Definitely a must watch/listen!
I love this song too. And The way Mark Knopfler plays the guitar is almost inimitable. Great 😎👍
This song is brilliant. No other song contains so much tension and simple grooves at the same time. It works on so many levels. The bass line comes out of the floor an carries all the of Mark Knofler's unpredictable, yet totally predictable arpeggio and cathartic soloing. No other song or band can walk that line the way Dire Straits does. I never turn this song off if it comes across the radio or stream I'm listening to. Amazing song from start to finish.
I always listen for that drum turnover when the time bells ring
Whenever this song comes on you just can't help but sing along to the solo
I always whistle it when it comes on at work
"Guitar George" and "Harry" are Aussies George Young and Harry Vanda who were the mainstays of the Easybeats and produced the first albums of George's brothers (Angus and Maclolm) and their band AC/DC
Oh cool! And I had not know that yet. Thank you for the info!
😀👍
So, I was born in El Salvador in 75, moved to Canada in 1990 when I was 14 , started immersing myself in English music, I did know about dire straits because of money for nothing, but when I stumbled upon sultans of swing I was just blown away and went to research it and found out how it was inspired by watching what I gather might have been a jazz band
The solo in this song is one of the most recognizable riffs ever in rock, so I'm glad you added the rest at the end. I remember when the computer animation that MTV used for VJ Max Headroom and that the Dire Straits used in the Money For Nothing video was considered very high tech and cutting edge at the time. Money For Nothing would be a good song for Alexis to hear more of Knopfler singing, along with Sting. 🙏✌️
LMBO!! I knew from the intro that Burch was going to find some way to finish off the song. And Burch, you were absolutely right to do so.
Thank you for completing the solo, you are right, it is an integral part of the whole production. It’s incredible to watch live.❤❤❤
Phenomenal musician. Mark Knoffler is the most unique melody maker. His chord progressions are mind blowing. His ability to accent his voicings is unmatched. FYI you two have become an addiction to watch. Thank u both so much
Big shout out to the dad for playing the solo! It’s what makes the song so special. Salute to you sir🫡
The most amazing thing about Mark Knopfler is that he's left-handed but mastered a right-handed guitar to a level most right-handed players can only dream of attaining. His lyrics show that he used to be a journalist before going pro.
Oh wow! I had not known that! 🤯 I tried to play lefthanded on a friend's brandnew lefty guitar recently but was completely useless at it 😅
A lot players are closet lefties. They use their lefthand for speed and/or bend control (Clapton, Gilmour, Page, Duane Allman, Rik Emmett, Joe Perry, and I think EVH and Jeff Beck.
Source: I am a leftie who prefers to work the frets with my left fingers but strum with my right hand. I watched an interview recently with Rik Emmett talking about how his guitar teacher had him play this way after learning to play "backwards," and had him relearn to play "the normal way."
Actually both Allman Brothers were lefties who played right-handed.
@@alanlucas2479 Elvis Costello, Johnny Winters, Gary Moore, and Billy Corgan are lefies who play right-haned but Jeff Beck was a rightie as is Clapton. I'm a right playing leftie too. 😁 Still from the older generations it's hard to tell who was born left-handed but forced in school to start using their right-hand. I know my dad was, personally I got hit on the knuckles with a ruler in school once for using my left hand to write. Only once though as I handed the teacher back 2 half rulers.
Mark Knopfler is a certified genius so it doesn't surprise me.
Not only that, He uses his fingers instead of a pick; He learn how to play the guitar with an acoustic one because He couldn't afford an electric one at that time!.
I like how in one interview Mark said he doesn't think he's a good singer, so he let his guitar sing like 50% of the time .
Love the Alchemy Live version of this song
Mark and his guitar are a duo, and he and the guitar sing duets so fantastically in this and Brothers In Arms.
Ce morceau est légendaire
@@Chris-kc3is c'est le meilleur
ohhhh man, what a song! Mark is one of the best guitar players ever!
Thank you for pulling up the solo....it is a must for this song.
The bass player, John Illsley, owns a local pub to me down here in Hampshire UK and lives the quiet life. Gets asked "when are you getting back together?"regularly. Serious money has been offered but the answer is always "Maybe one day...". Ain't going to happen though. 😄
Mark Knopfler lives near to him here on the south coast.
Best band in the world. I first heard them when I was working in the USA late 70's, blew me away. Came home to the UK bursting to tell about them only to find they'd just broken out here. Loved them since.
A friend of mine saw them in concert in 91 and said they put on one of the best concerts next to Floyd he saw, it was I think The Brothers in Arms tour if I'm not mistaken.
All hail Burch for finding the solo instead of going oh well song over, you wanted Alexis and everyone else to get the full song and your works appreciated.
Mark Knopfler one of my all time top guitarists. Great reaction.
Bonjour, je pense qu'il s'agit plutôt de leur tournée après l'album "On every street", bien à vous.
@laetitiavenant5423 tu as raison.
I agree completely about the outro. Thanks for doing that.
So right. Whoever cut that solo off at the end should never edit videos.
I can't believe you chose the shorter version! ;D It is such a wholesome rock song. Who wouldn't like to have a steady bar gig where he'd play so awesomely that other musicians would write songs about them?
and it was their debut album too. That's why they were so slim - boys were really putting everything into music and had scarcely any money for food. Just look at the several years' difference in the video for money for nothing, when they'd eaten enough.
*Thank you for taking the time to make and post this excellent video♪♫♪*
Ok, you guys got me. You pop up in my recommendations all the time and I love the reactions you do to my favorites. But Burch going back to make sure you get that outro solo sealed it for me. I’m now a subscriber. Keep the great reactions coming while I go burn through the back catalog.
Guitar George is the older brother of Angus and Malcolm Young from AC/DC. Harry is Harry Vanda, George's band mate.
I thought it was George Harrison
@@cindysmith3753 George Young. Google it.
Always a great one to watch with reactors - thanks - i enjoyed watching this with you - even if it finished too soon.
Their performance of this Live at Wembley is iconic!
I am so glad you played the entire thing, I was crying as if something was missing in my life!
you two hit the nail on the head with your obeservations/comments ! Great to see that .... cheers!
Thank you! The best part of the performance!
Mark is a great guitarist. Recognized by other professional guitarists and a unique sound with his finger picking.
Knophler and Buckingham are both very famous finger style pickers in Rock which makes both difficult for others to duplicate.
@@larrybremer4930 Lindsey's a madman. He has such a distinct sound. I just recently found out he did "Holiday Road" for the movie Vacation. Great stuff.
Cool reaction guys.
I must have listened to this song hundreds of times.
Cheers dude,
Awesome awesome tune..
one of the most iconic tunes by an iconic musician and band🤙..
Mark Knopler is an absolute legend, no question...his guitar doesn't just play music
it actually talks🤙..
One of my best tunes 'Sultans of Swing ' to this day and listen to it constantly especially the guitar rift at the end...
I love you didn't let that go. Great reaction
Great album too. Mark is one of the GOATS. So good!
I wish that you had played their LIVE version at the ALCHEMY concert. You’d have loved the drumming then! But still, an awesome band.
Thank you for playing all of that!!!
Hello, Alexis and Burch: Your videos so far have a nice feel to them and I will be seeing what you have done. Good reaction; Nice AKG headphones.
thank you very much to adding thé solo, french fan of MK & dire straits ❤ from France .
I so loved them thanks guys
Well played my friend. That's what I'm taking about. Don't be denied
I grew up listening to this and many more from Mark Knopfler. Took me right back to those cassette tape days when I'd rewind and play that again and again. Every chord, every nuance of that song is deeply familiar to me. Top shelf stuff.
thanks love this tune, one of the best tones every, love it
Great reaction and great job by Burch to correct an error by the band. Dire Straits is such a classic band from my youth and young adulthood. Could you react to Telegraph Road next please!
Private Investigations would be my choice for the outro.
I love to see young people being turned on to great music. Enjoy. I saw them live in the early 80s the best live band I ever saw.
I saw Dire Straits in Germany in 1980 after the Making Movies album had been released. They were immense. My brother, however, saw them in the 70s in a pub called the Greyhound in Fulham, London.
Love this song so much. Dire Straits are simply amazing
Thanks for the video
The best quote ever at 1:20, "Oh dear God" Love you guys, thanks for the reactions.
I Love This Song! Mark Knopfler Is a Legend 🎸
The first time l heard this song, it immediately caught my attention, back in the 70's. I was listening intently to it, not knowing who it was and thought,."Hmmm, this is a different style for Bob Dylan, who l thought at first was singing this.
Mark wrote some great music and his playing style was unique.
Catch The Every Brothers cover of their song 'Why Worry', that is live, where Mark and Chet Atkins share the guitar intro. It's absolutely spot on. And with the Everly Brothers haunting harmonies, it is beautiful.
By the way, l enjoy your analysis of songs.
Mark Knopfler is my girls favorite. We saw him at Berkeley 3 years ago. He asked the crowd what they thought about him retiring and everyone yelled NOOOOO!!! He laughed and said come on. Then played an amazing concert. Wasn’t a big fan till that concert.
Dire Straits is a very cool pick. The rhythmic timing and laid back vocals of Mark Knophler are always a welcome mesh of music and storytelling. I'd love to see you guys react to STAKEAWAY and INDUSTRIAL DISEASE. Because they rarely unearthed on these channels. They are brilliant, cool, jazzy, and well played. Mark Knophler worked at a newspaper earlier in his life, which explains how he writes the songs from the viewpoint of a reporter. We know eventually that MONEY FOR NOTHING will make an appearance on the channel. I will be interested in Alexis' take on the early use of computer graphics. Until then, enjoy
Subscribed! Going back to hear the outro solo ftw.
Just couldn't let it slide, even if it was thier official video 🤘
mark knopfler is one of the all time great guitarists, up there with australians tommy emmanuel and ian moss, if you haven't heard them try classical gas by tommy, and bow river by cold chisel, live from the ringside tour, the band ian was in
'The Hunt' by Tommy Emmanuel (mid 90's, with 'percussion' introduction) is very cool, too! 😊👍
And I'd never realised before today that you can sing the chorus of Fleetwood Mac's 'Go Your Own Way' over parts of this song! 😁
Thank you for your good vibes, you two! 😊👍
Mark knopfler the reason i play the guitar love this song!
You guys are ****** awesome lol. Thank you.
Pure gold🤘🏼
You should show her the live from Wembley version of Tunnel Of Love. It's a long one, but, imo, it's the best version of that song.
Agreed
Yes, Yes, YES!
Mark is not only a guitarist but also a songwriter. He did magic in my opinion !
That first album is great! It is mellow and we used to chill and play backgammon.
Brothers in Arms is a fantastic song and Mark does several live videos of it. Mark Knopfler is absolutely incredible!!
MK is a legend and no pick! I did a cover of this (on my channel... shameless) because I learned it for my dad. Thanks for playing the end. Glad I found you guys
Mark’s solo song, Fare Thee Well Northumberland, is a good example of him actually singing.
Thank you for that 😊😊😊
There is no reason ever to cut that solo out. That is the most amazing finger picking EVER.
Lived next door to their drummer in the 80’s 🏴
I can fully relate to your obsession with playing the last part.. ❤❤❤ subscribed to your channel for that.... ❤❤
Super cool cool cool... thanks.
I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard this song, and it literally ingrained itself into my lifes soundtrack.
I was 9 years old, standing around watching the men in my family building massive jeeps, that were the precursor to rock climers today.
And beer was involved! 😃👍🏻🍺🍻
Dire Strais How great were many memories of a time💜
yes yes 'always plays to the ending .🎸
Grew up with my Dad playing Dire Straits all day long on the weekends 🤩👍🏻
Many of my age (40) don't even know them and it's a real shame 😢
This song motivated me to learn bass besides guitar 🤩
So I'm very happy that you picked up on the great bassline ❤
The solo cut off in their video was a drama, I agree 😫
When I reached drinking age, this song was hot. For years I never had seen him play. Then, I saw him and his finger-style ways. Wild. Him and Derek Trucks. Blows my mind.
Well done, Burch! 👏👏👏
A timeless classic.
YES!
I’m 44 and my dad played this album non stop, it’s practically the anthem to my child hood.
There is a remake of this song that leo moracchioli does with Mary spender that is really well done but it's a little heavier with the guitar but it sounds fantastic, just saying it might be something to check out.
I feel your pain, it is disappointing that they cut off the last part, which is the biggest part of the song, I'm glad you played a studio version of the song to show the completion of the song, instead of just letting it slide.
You two are great, daughter is into observing ❤ it.
coolest guitar riffs in music history
this was real talent and muscians
Play her ,, walkin in the wild west end .. You guys are awesome columns Ohio loves rock n roll..
That's why I always listen to the album cut.
Great reaction. Thamks for not talking all the time its nice to just hear the msuic, It ok to pause mid track and talk about the song if u want but its was nice to hear the song.
Heart , Crazy On You live on Midnight Special would be a cool one.
Most people only hear the guitar playing etc and dont really get the words. But the words are very sad and poignient. Its about the end of an era. It means a lot to English people of my generation. I went in so many pubs like this in the 60s and 70s .I am 77.
ONE. Incredible guitarist!!! rage against the machine Tom morello 🎸. Completely different then anyone else ❤please play them soon 🙏
This is just a song you crank up on the radio when it comes on and sing along to.
It's interesting the way that Mark uses his voice and the picking guitar ! Like dialogue, he speaks and after the guitar is answering doing this like an inter-dialogue because he answering himself but the guitar take an important place in the dialogue when realize the solos specialize en the interludio, there's no any doubt that this is one of the most iconic melodies of the 80's times!
Thanks for finding the end of the song. If I remember correctly back in 1984 when MTV started the first song was Money for Nothing by Dire Straits.
The first video on MTV was “Video Killed the Radio Star” by the Buggles, on August 1, 1981.
Money For Nothing was released in 1985.
It’s about seeing a jazz band in a pub in Deptford, South East London. The “park” is Greenwich park.
That was music ,nothing like the 70 rock ❤
THANK YOU BURCH!!! I can't stand when reactors miss out on iconic and simply necessary sections of songs because the videos they choose don't include them. And it's not their fault obviously they don't know if they haven't heard before right? Lol anyways you saved the day man. Love the channel! Great reaction you two!
