I heard about Trivium from my band mates, I never realized I was playing Coreys parts...now I feel really flattered that they trusted me to be that talented.
It came out 2005, right around the time when the whole melodic metalcore thing came into play. Before As i lay dying were even that established. Matt is definitely inspired by death metal, As i lay dying's melodies in guitar riffs are so alike those of swedish death metal bands. Metalcore = Swedish death metal + breakdowns. Trivium, AILD etc. basically made this melodic style popular in America. If these FEW bands never introduced these melodies, i doubt BVB and AA etc. would even exist.
DropdaLTDtoB well Jinxx is plays classical violin 🎻 and guitar his influence were Marty Friedman randy rhoads. Jake Pitts hero’s is Paul Gilbert and Metallica, dream theater as well
idk bvb was influenced by more old school bands like 80s glam, and old school punk. and the only reason Andy screamed so much in the old songs was bc he didn't know how to sing proper melodies
Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UA-cam videos have really come a long way in the last 20 years (give or take) but it is harder to do than a lot of people realize in order to keep the quality up and content interesting.
Well Ascendancy has it's thrash moments, but Ember is pure metalcore pretty much. But I see where you are coming from. I agree, Ascendancy is my second favorite too.
i dont know if anyone has already pointed this out, but the last riff in that song is from Ascendancy, not Rain. I thought it sounded weird when i heard it alongside the other riffs .... didnt seem to fit lol
@piluke33 Actually, no xD He's back with Gibson now and he mainly uses les pauls. For his seven stringed songs, he uses an explorer with 7 strings that gibson made just for him..lucky bastard
It's those crunchy active EMG pickups that Heafy has on his solid bodied gibson. Awesome sound. They're returning to EMGs and more screaming for their next album, the crusade was technically good but I really didn't enjoy it that much.
Just from looking at the Jackson, the pickups look stock and the tone is on the fuzzier end. They sound like seymour duncan's jb set. Fool with your tone knobs and you can get that thicker/fuzz sound.
you should try this song is fairly easy, u might have alittle trouble coreys intro, but just do it slowly and ten build speed and after a while ull have it
@666PEFFIE666 dunno older i always thought that matt came in an already grown up band when he joined trivium but as it seems all trivium members were very young at that time...
Also the riff that matt plays at 1.45 is he only palm muting the open E string and playing the other notes non palm muted? please tell me if i am correct.
@Progeeks1 Oh Really? Cuz I tought it was in combination with pickslide over multiple strings or something, I just couldn't figure it out :p But it sounds sooo awesome :D Matt is just toooo good :D
I'm just starting to figure out how palm muting works and i find it really confusing when to palm mute and when not, is the riff that corey plays from 0.31 - 0.41 palm muted completely? since his right hand isn't moving much.
i wouldnt say better, it's just different, the tone on the crusade sounds more creamy and smooth, tone on ascendancy is harsher..but ascendancy songs are better by many folds :P
I still cannot believe Matt was 18 and Corey was 20 when they wrote the riffs for Ascendancy.... it honestly blows my mind
well the boys had played 6-8 years of guitar before the album. But still amazes.
Age shouldn’t matter when it comes to your personal success . Don’t let that hold you back
I might get flamed for this... In my opinion, Ascendancy is the best album they come out with.
Topaz1115 I definitely agree with you man,Trivium is a huge inspiration and I just love the riffs and Matt's particular tone in this video
Id put this at first then the crusade then shogun then vengeance falls then in waves then the sin and the sentence and I forgot that other one
Shogun and Ascendancy are the best albums
You’re kidding right? Ascendancy is a perfect album. Shogun is as well.
Shogun was
I like how they "slowed down" and ended up playing at tempo lmao
Corey's opening riff bit is perfection.
I heard about Trivium from my band mates, I never realized I was playing Coreys parts...now I feel really flattered that they trusted me to be that talented.
2:09 - end
It's not Rain but Ascendancy
And a fucking legendary Riff so hood
2:08 one of the greatest riffs they ever wrote!!!
"hey this is matt from trivium"
"i'm corey..... (wtf, why'd he say "from trivium?" now people think i'm not from trivium)
Haha yeah that sounded cringy but matt fixed that in later videos by saying "we are from Trivium" after name introduction.
corey makes those though triplets on the intro look so easy...legend.
Love how they threw in Ascendancy at the end there 💖💖💖
They were so young when they wrote this beast of a song. Mind blowing.

DropdaLTDtoB don’t forget killswitch engage
DropdaLTDtoB well Jinxx is plays classical violin 🎻 and guitar his influence were Marty Friedman randy rhoads. Jake Pitts hero’s is Paul Gilbert and Metallica, dream theater as well

Bvb as black veil brides? They are emo and not that special as bands that actually got influenced by trivium. Poor example dude.
Don't forget Shadows Fall aswell
In my humble opinion, Ascendancy is the best metalcore album ever
agree
Damn I miss this version of Trivium.
Bro Corey hasn’t changed a single bit😂
apart from putting on a load of weight
You also forget he's slowly turning into Corpsegrinder since he seemed to have lost his neck
their double strumming is awesome. so accurate
Corey isn't wasted in Trivium. His solos are perfect, I don't think that him is wasted because he plays the hard solos
Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UA-cam videos have really come a long way in the last 20 years (give or take) but it is harder to do than a lot of people realize in order to keep the quality up and content interesting.
God these dudes were so young when they started. Absolutely insane talents!
There are no video like this today...
the pick scrape at 26 is fukin badass
I like how they keep looking at the camera guys like "is this how you want it?"
battery by metallica is a BRUTAL triplet speed builder as well. it takes work but once you get it it feels so good to play it.
Lol damn they're young.
Matt is 19 and Corey is 22
I'm Corey o.O
+mttrsll7 LMAO dude!
Me too
taylor😂😆
Still one of the greatest songs of trivium ❤🤘💯
i love playing the part 1.53-2.07
the last intro is Ascendancy but still a beastly Riff
its awesome how well they play together
2:10 is in ascendancy?
Matt, Corey! You both rock 🤘🏽
he is actualy 67 but he shredds so fast that he warps back in time to keep his youth. complicated story i saw on discovery channel
yeah it's the intro riff for the solo of 'ascendancy'
you can tell from the very first power chordes that are played at the begining of the songs
En ese tiempo jóvenes y muy buenos músicos guitarristas y compositores lml son buenos chicos
Fuck, Matt looks so young here and kinda emo. He aged like a fine wine.
All that gain tho lmfao, still sounds good tho
There’s so damn much lol that’s why their tone’s so good
honestly if you are a good guitar play and cleanly you can make max gain sound good
it's definitly the first solo section from Ascendancy from 2:10
@papasmurf530 I know you said this 7 months ago, but yes, yes it is.
Well Ascendancy has it's thrash moments, but Ember is pure metalcore pretty much. But I see where you are coming from. I agree, Ascendancy is my second favorite too.
BEST BAND EVER
this song is a frikkin masterpiece
@rr15100 Nope, Triviums cover is in Eb.
I remember learning from videos with this quality
i dont know if anyone has already pointed this out, but the last riff in that song is from Ascendancy, not Rain.
I thought it sounded weird when i heard it alongside the other riffs .... didnt seem to fit lol
@FtaCapoeiraWoot Metallica's Master of Puppets is Standard E. Trivium's is in Eb.
the last riff is from assendancy :) its still amazing!
awesome metal song and guitar work
shogun is awesome and trivium is awesome
Holy shit look at Corey's picking hand. I wish i could down pick that fast.
awesome gallops on the ending riffs they played
omg i love his custom gibson...
@JackFriedRice I stand corrected
@leopower7 He scrapes the pick on the wound strings.
If only you knew when you wrote this comment the hell that was to be unleashed next was Shogun. Probably the best metal album I’ve ever heard.
Just from looking at the Jackson, the pickups look stock and the tone is on the fuzzier end. They sound like seymour duncan's jb set. Fool with your tone knobs and you can get that thicker/fuzz sound.
that slide thing at 0:26 rocks
Las part is from "ascendancy" song
@FtaCapoeiraWoot Yes it is....
matt looks so dang adorable!! I wish he had his hair this short again.
you should try this song is fairly easy,
u might have alittle trouble coreys intro, but just do it slowly and ten build speed and after a while ull have it
besides its one thing to play music, its another to create it!
@666PEFFIE666 dunno older i always thought that matt came in an already grown up band when he joined trivium but as it seems all trivium members were very young at that time...
this song is so fun to play
@ThexMetalxWithin its the solo
Que jovencicos!!!!!
Como pasan los años....
great sound
so young....
dey r da best
@JackFriedRice Its in E standard my good man
i myself love in waves ember to inferno and shogun but i gotta say most of my favorite dark songs are on ascendency
Yes
the second riff is really cool
@Corey91666 no matt joined 2000, corey 2003 and paolo 2004 ;)
@FassaertS well yeah, but it's pretty hard though at that speed.. he does well.
Ascendancy riff is the best!
GO TRIVIUMMM!!!!!
0:00 - 2:08 = Rain, 2:08 - 2:43 = Ascendancy. I remember this video confusing me when I first saw it like 15 years ago.
@JulianTheGuitarist who is 67 and what did you saw on DC?
Also the riff that matt plays at 1.45 is he only palm muting the open E string and playing the other notes non palm muted? please tell me if i am correct.
would anyone happen to know what kind of pickups or amp corey is using? i really like the sound hes got going
at 2:10 - isn't that the riff just before the solo in ascendancy ?
@666Stiwen I dunno. All I know is that they're both cool guys
Do you have a video of them playing like light to the flies?
Drop D. Isn't most of Ascendancy in drop D for that matter?
What is Matt doing on 0.26 sec? Because that is really cool :D
2:09 made me believe in Trivium
ill start searching ultimate guitar now, thanks
ok is it just the low E dropped ? as in E B G D A D ? or all dropped as in D A F C G D ?
yeah man i agree, and this was after ascendancy what bout now man in shogun. they are so much better as guitarists and as a band.
@666PEFFIE666 corey is just 3 years older ? wow i didnt expect that to be honest
damn corey has put on quite a bit of w8 since then!
isnt it from ascendancy??
i was thinking the same thing
that was from ascendancy
@Progeeks1
Oh Really? Cuz I tought it was in combination with pickslide over multiple strings or something, I just couldn't figure it out :p But it sounds sooo awesome :D
Matt is just toooo good :D
Corey's a BEAST!
I'm just starting to figure out how palm muting works and i find it really confusing when to palm mute and when not, is the riff that corey plays from 0.31 - 0.41 palm muted completely? since his right hand isn't moving much.
thanks
