This was such a blast to do! Thank you Gibson!!
Can't wait to hear Rashomon 🔥🤘
Thanks so much for this, Matt and Gibson!
Matt, thanks so much for sharing your killer guitar skills with us! This episode is epic 🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻

You are such a hard working and dedicated musician Matt. It’s an inspiration, not just for musicians, but for those in other professions too. No substitute for diligence and practice when it comes to perfecting your craft. Your new album is amazing, my favourite Trivium album start to finish.
The fact that he sings while playing these riffs makes him God-like.
Try the band called Revocation! 🤟 the dude plays technical death metal jazz whilst singing.
@@chaddy666 Dave is a beeeaaaast
@@chaddy666 Yeah Dave is a madman, one of my favorites. Josh Middleton from Sylosis is another good example
Have you ever heard of Dave Mustaine
I can barely talk while playing at a quarter that speed absolutely a beast
Ive seen trivium live a few times. Ive never heard a more consistent sounding and precise execution of material. This dude is one of my favorite guitarists of all time
Truly appreciated 🤘
@@matthewkheafy woah.
@@matthewkheafy Looking forward to seeing you guys with Fit for an autopsy in January in London 🤘🏻 Your new album is your best one yet, start to finish.
@@Grimeyhoob gonna be insane man. Also seeing Fit For An Autopsy on Wednesday in London.
@@joshforeman1648 Lucky - I’m out of the country right now on Holiday so Im missing them :( but will definitely catch them when they come in January with Trivium.
Shogun was pretty much permanently in the CD player of my car for about 2 years when it came out. Absolute metal masterclass.
The riffs are insane but the fact he sings at the same time is even more impressive
Matt is definitely up there with the likes of Hetfield, Mustaine, Schuldiner and Laiho
you can do it also! i thought it was impossible but after committing myself 2-3 hours a day to perfecting it, the technique comes a bit easy now. the only rough part is vocals because vocals wear out, not instruments
riffs are really simple actually! trivium is great to learn when ur ready to start pickn metal
@@ArttuAunola and Josh Middleton
Him and Claudio have the most technical parts to play while singing. Its so damn crazy.
That's our boy 🎸 🎸 🎸
He needs his own flavor gfuel!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏
The humility and sense of community that Matt has built in the metal scene is unrivaled. To take this time to explain the details of his riffs is just amazing
An ENTIRE HOUR of Matt showing and teaching riffs??? This is too good to be true
Matt is one of the best vocalists/guitarists around so cool to see him here
Thank youuuu
@@matthewkheafy thanks for all the inspiration my man! In life and music
@@matthewkheafy you are amazing Matt ima huge fan just saw you live in L.A
Yknow what’s funny? I’ve been playing guitar almost 11 years, I have the MKH 7 string he’s playing in this video, I play along with trivium songs almost every time I pick up a guitar, and every time I watch this man play, I STILL feel like I have no idea how he plays so effortlessly. Hell of a guitarist and an even better person! Long live Hatt Meafy
Every time I think of fun 2000s metal riffs, Mouth of Hell always comes to mind first. Such a great song.
His triplets with the single in between are just unreal. Only getting better as they get older too. In the court of the dragon has some of the cleanest, on point riffs I've ever heard. Best metal band of today.
If you like gallops, you gotta check out Iced Earth.
Jon Schaffer is the king of gallops. He uses them in literally every single song. I've never seen anyone play faster and cleaner rhythm guitar.
I love Matt and he's great, but as a pure rhythm guitarist Schaffer is on another level.
For super fast gallops above 220BPM check out the "Alive in Athens" videos of Dante's Inferno, Travel In Stygian, The Path I Choose, Pure Evil, Stormrider, Cast In Stone, When The Night Falls.
not triplets
@@tfwnoyandere what do you call them?
there isn't really a good name for them that i've seen, i hear people call them gallops but i consider gallops an eighth note and then two sixteenth notes, not two sixteenths then an eighth like we're talking about
@@tfwnoyandere I dunno. I'm still hearing 3s. Bum bum badadum bum badadum. I swear it's 3s.
Into the mouth of hell is such an amazing jam. Been playing it on 6 string tuned down. Anywho thanks for this. Matt & Trivium deserve much more spotlight & attention. Great band
One of the best riff writers of our generation
You see that Epiphone is making awesome instruments, when their endorsers are actually using the guitars on concerts and records. Matt is one of them. Keep going Epi, you are on the right way.
Epi never dissapointed me still in love With my rob flynn and zakk wylde bullseye and the mkh 7 can't wait for the origin mkh's to Come out!!!!
Yeah, it is really cool when players use their actual signature models. Some guys say that they don't want their name on the guitar if it isn't good enough to take off of the shelf and use. In the past, I have often wondered if brands like Gibson will make guitars for these guys and then put an Epiphone headstock and/or logo on it.... Just so that kids buy is... That thought has gone through my mind many, many times. However, the new Epiphones are much, much better than they were in the past. I have had several since I started playing in 92 or 93...I loved some and absolutely hated others. But the newer ones are much better. The last one I truly hated was made in either 2008 or 2009....
Meh that's just to sell epiphones. Pay me enough and I'll play on a pink chinese squier
@@Johnnymack666 guitar or amp yes choose wisely.
50/50 Matt's Epiphone stuff seems to come out really great but I've seen the LP moderns and prophecy struggle with a lot of QC issues.
One of the most important bands of the last 20 years. Thank you, Guys.
@@Johnnymack666 ok pro guy
the amount of hours we've all logged in our headphones blasting Ascendency since '05/06 >>
Suffocating Sight was so important to my guitar journey. Really tightened my alternate picking
I love that he showed Betrayer. I lost my voice instantly, shouting the opening line of that song the second time I saw Trivium.
Great band and Matt seems like a great human being.
I just got back from the Tour of the year with In Flames, Trivium, Lamb of God and Megadeth and I was marking the fucking out every song Trivium did!
I am really glad he picked Incineration: The Broken World, one of the most underrated Trivium songs. That song is fantastic.
I would do terrible things to see incineration and wake live
@@thats_not_glue Check out "The Deepest Cuts", it's probably the closest we'll ever get to a live performace for both of these songs!
Matt might not be the tighest lead player but god damn, his riffs are SO TIGHT!! And he sings and plays these riffs. And does BJJ, and is such a nice dude.
Legend
The only bad part about this video is that it ends. Could watch another 9 hours of this 🔥🔥🤘🤘
I didn’t need reminding of how good Matt is. But I’ve still been reminded, and then some. He’s just incredible. I vividly remember seeing Trivium in Colchester, UK about 15 years ago. He was lifting weights outside the Arts Centre and happily talking to all of us. I may still have the video! Such a great guy.
Loved Trivium since 2006. Shogun and Ascendancy are still two of my favorite records from that era. Matt is always a joy to watch and hear; just always so TIGHTTTT
Matt Heafy Rhythm playing is incredible. Very strong right hand technique. He is very inspiring for me. And I'm playing guitar for 15 years now.
He is definitely Riff Lord.
Thanks for this 1-hour video of absolute greatness.
It’s hard believe Matthew that one day many years ago you would have been learning chords and maybe even struggling, you look like you were born with a guitar. Amazing watching this thank you.
Special ear you have. My Dad is also a Professional Guitar Player, my Dad is a very special Musician. I enjoy hearing him play the sliding still guitar most of all. I love it!❤
I would love to see a Matt v. prime James Hetfield downpick battle lmao Matt’s picking hand is absolutely mesmerizing
Matt is great but check out Creeping Death live in Canada in 1986. That shit is absolutely insane
@@tiagometallica007 they actually played it faster because L A R S
I also think one of the reasons of the incredible technic of Matt is Hetfield
@@crisssidk pre-2015, Trivium had something similar where live, they just sped the crack out of the songs. Suffocating Sight or Rain would be 1.57 times faster, which is wild to think about
I think james will win. His right hand is just oit of this world.
This guys right hand precision is just killer!
It’s amazing that he wrote this at 15-16 and it’s still so relevant
plays at "half speed" still harder and faster then most other bands can dream of lol
theres alot of very technical and crazy 'fast' bands out there. check them out
Veil of Maya, the black dahlia murder, polaris, protest the hero, nevermore, necrophagist, all shall perish, conducting from the grave, the faceless. So many bands have way way more technical and harder riffs than trivium. You're a noob.
I've always taken massive inspiration from Matt and generally trivium, Matt talking about differant teqniques he's doing like the rythem and lead at the same time is a mind opener cause I do that naturally because of how much I've been inspired by trivium, great video guys, keep it up
Glad you got Matt Heafy on this! Easily one of the best and most influential guitarists of the whole metal scene, and definitely one of my all time favorites!
his economy of his fret hand is amazing....Corey is soooo underrated
Corey is insane. If you watch their deepest cuts live vids you'll really see how busy and flawless he is.
Helps having longer fingers that aren't stubby lol. When you don't you have to make up for it.
the only person ever to have epiphone guitars on a gibson interview :P I love how down to earth and chill he is. he gets that if the guitar is good, it's good, even tho he can play 7000 dollar LPCs from the gibson CS, he decides to play something that makes more sense
Definitely love to see a guitar player nowadays not buy into the whole Gibson ovr Epiphone myth. It shows Matt's a down to Earth guitar player with a no bullshit perspective!! Fans of guitar need more people like Matt, a guitar player not a guitar collector!!
Janick Gers of Iron Maiden played an Epiphone for parts of the set on their "Book of Souls" world tour back in 2016-2017 precisely to demonstrate that "lower tier" guitars sound more than good enough for live use (and presumably studio use as well), even for professional artists.
I cant believe you manage to sing and play some of these riffs at the same time and make it look so damn effortless
That part with the open root notes in ITCOTD is so badass.
I saw Trivium with Megadeth and Lamb of God last year. I had never heard Trivium, at the time I wasn’t into clean singing in thrash metal. But seeing them live was mind blowing, I became a fan immediately. Matt was the best at interacting with the crowd that I’ve seen anyone be on stage, he was so full of energy
That’s crazy for me to hear as a fan of the band for 16 years and seeing them live 14 times. Got to meet them too. Been a fan since I was 17 in high school. I’m gonna be 34 soon lol. Sometimes you forget people aren’t into the same bands as you or have ever heard them. Trivium was a huge part of my metal journey back in the day. Still are
Thank you Gibson and thank you Matt for taking the time to put together this incredibly well-crafted video. I’m not sure that I will ever get to this level in my playing, but I’m always in awe and inspired by seeing such fantastic musicians like Matt. Such a humble, down to earth, and insanely talented dude.
Rain was my intro to Trivium and the reason I love these guys
Matt is one of the best guitarists/vocalists right now, it is awesome to see him break down all this riffs. absolutely amazing!
Amazing video thanks for getting him on! Love trivium a lot. I could watch Matt play guitar for hours!
🙏
My inspiration! Just saw them in concert tonight. It. Was. Epic. Can’t wait to scoop up these guitars when they drop!!
The band that got me into modern metal music! Definitely inspired me Matt! Can’t wait to see you tonight in Nashville
Matt’s easily my biggest inspiration
Thank you Matt for blessing us with this video! Thank you Gibson! Well deserved
Amazing killer riffs!
Please keep making this incredible series Riff Lords!! 🤟🤟🤟
Awesome to see matt on here after all this time!!!!
About time that triviums riffs get more love.
The best there is! These signatures are going to be Epiphone's #1 seller for years to come!

A guitar lesson from the greatest metalcore guitarist of all time. And it's free. Damn.
FINALLY.... was waiting for this. Been listening to these guys for 20 years now. Matt has grown so much. I can't wait till he gets his Gibson Custom.... His interviews are always so technical and easy to understand. Really appreciate this hour of video.
He doesn't need a Gibson Custom, the Epiphones he help design have all U will ever Need!!!!!
Matt is so professional and just WOW it’s been a blast watching mold into this amazing riff lord Sir
Most in depth riff lords yet. Thanks
Loved this showcase👏🏼
Matt rips! First saw them on the Crusade tour in Orlando back in the day…one of the best riff writers out there. Love this!!
Two of them I like to play: Suffocating Sight and Into the Mouth. I have noticed that some chords are slightly different from that I learned. Matt, you are a hell of a riff machine, thank you for so many masterpieces.
One of my Favourite bands & guitarists of all time, showed everyone that a traditional "Rhythm" player should have no bounds, can shred the lead licks & solo's as good as anyone on the planet \M/
Takes me back to high school blasting these songs thru my headphones trying to play on guitar and learn the tabs. I love Trivium!!!
I’ve been a trivium fan since ember to infernos release. Miss these guys and happy to see them still playing heavy ass metal as Matt said back in the roadrunner all star recordings. Really brought my guitar skills to another level as a kid. Keep it up Matt Corey and Paulo. True legends.
Thank you so much for this video! I just really love Ember to Inferno and Into the Mouth of Hell We March and I would say that I think I get obsesed by those two! Never thought that this kind video of Matt Heafy himself! Talk detail about these 2 and other Trivium's songs for sure!... Thank you in advance
Very informative and inspiring. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
MAD respect for Matt. 100% Guitar Hero material with this guy.
he got them long fingers for that long reach...fkn awesome
I just saw trivium last night for the first time. They were great 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Matt has been my hero and inspiration for the last 15 years and will continue to be so. I even bought white LP shaped guitar I wanted since I saw Matt play it on the In The Fire solo tracking video some 14 years ago :D
That roadrunner DVD was incredible

Matt is awesome! Great front man, great guitar player, great ambassador for the metal genre! Challenging riffs, but a ton of fun to play! These guys sound just as good or better live as they do on record! Love Trivium!🤘🏼🤘🏼
hell yeah, when ascendency came out it was like all 12 year old me listened to for ages! crazy to think that their debut came out 19 years ago now
Truly a Riff Lord ! Well done Gibson, nice to see one of the most underrated guitar virtuosos of our time given the spotlight.
a surprise to be sure but a welcome one
Matt is an absolute beast!
amazing job on this one gibson! mr heafy as a modern metal legend
Hell yeah! was an honor to be able to meet you and shake your hand as you walked into the hotel I was staying at in San Diego. Been a fan since the ember days. 🤘🏻
Incredible. Those verse riffs on court are some of my all time matt riffs. It sounds insane in the record. Also incineration to me is one of the most underrated trivium songs. That album got a lot of hate but I still get pumped listening to it.
I was lucky enough to meet someone working security at a Trivium show and party with them. They snuck me in on Trivium's guest list and gave me tickets at the "Will Call." Honestly, I was there to see Children of Bodom. Aman Amarth opened up, and Trivium supported. All three bands put on a hell of a show. And it was at the Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana, CA. Small place, great atmosphere!
Genial 🔥🐲🔥🐲 todos tenemos una inspiracion pero que sirva para encontrar nuestra propia voz... gracias Matt 🤟
NAH MAN HE JUST DOWN PICKING EVERYTHING MAN JUST SHOWING OFF IM CRYING.
Around 29:00 baffles me
Verse riff of the verse for Into the Mouth of hell we march is one of my favorite trivium riffs. So sick!
In my opinion, Trivium is one of the most underrated metal bands today. And Matt has to be one of the best guitarist/lead singer combos out there.
Awesome video !!!!
I love these old riffs lol takes me back to high school 2004-2005 lol
You’re the professional and beast Matthew on Metal Tour Of Year. Congrats on Gibson. Good luck! 🎸😎🤘🏽🔥💪🏽

Matt is my idol, his discipline and skill never cease to inspire me! Plus he’s a really nice dude from what I’ve seen🤘🔥
Calm down. You should never idolize someone when you can be just great as him with enough practice. I like Matt too, but don’t think he’s an idol. He’s just an influence
@@metallicaguy123 I look up to him as an inspiration therefore he is my idol and my favorite guitar player. Fuck off, I’ll do what I want.
