Okay - a decent guide, very viable, but I really think that you could've added some easy to obtain options for the [chest] armor, as well as weapons. Instead of Duress as your armor, you should definitely try to invest in a Guardian Angel (Unique Templar Coat), as it gives +15% to maxium resistances for EVERY resistance, giving you a potential baseline of 90% all resists - without needing anything - and it also gives you a faster block rate and can have an Um rune added into it for the same bonus of 15% to all resistances. This is an absolute game changer - as you can have a maximum of 95% now using Resist Lightning/Fire/Cold Aura hard points. I generally put 4 points into each of the 3, giving me 92% maximum all resistances (Though keep in mind that maxing out defiance for the Holy Shield synergy gives a HUGE defense boost, and may be way more worth it to max that and forego any single resistance aura. I personally use 1 point in salvation, and proc fade from my treachary armor just standing in the fire that's always near the River of Flame Waypoint.). For the belt, you're better off with verdungo's Hearty cord (Mithirl Belt), though String of Ears, and Tgods can definitely be used. You can also use just about any belt, but the verdungo's is IMO best in slot for smiters. It offers up to 40 vitality, and 10-15% Damage reduction, among other smaller but still nice bonuses. Lastly, for the weapon... (and shield): You could honestly just use a spirit shield (Assuming it's Elite tier, such as Zakarum Shield/Sacred Targe/Vortex Shield, or at the very least exceptional quality), but my hands-down choice is an Upgraded HoZ (Herald of Zakarum). It does take 142 STR to equip, but you can always reset your stats via den quests after farming your first torch (assuming that you plan on keeping it, so the worse the torch you keep, the better in this case. I personally do NOT use a paladin torch on my smiter, they're generally worth quite a bit, as well as the fact that it doesn't really help all that much, especially compared to the stats and resistances it'll give you. My favorite and preferred Weapon of choice is the "Heaven's Light (Mighty Scepter)" - the most important roll on these are the roll on whether it'll get 1 or 2 sockets, but also has a +1-3 paladin skill range, Crushing blow, and open wounds if I recall correctly. Inserting 2 Shael runes makes it one of the fastest unique-type weapon in the game, with a base value of "Very fast attack speed" (Sorry, don't remember off the top of my head what the +/- score of the weapon is, which can be found ion the Areeat summit webpage), and a whopping 60% increased attack speed! Also, another thing to keep in mind is using 1x Raven Frost rings, if available, for not only the Cold Absorb (Mephisto's blizzard really hurts, btw), but "Cannot be Frozen", and the welcomed +40 to mana that it also provides. Of course, these are merely my suggestions based off my build that I've used for close to a decade, and I'm NOT trying to say or imply that your guide is "wrong" or anything. It's very well written and explains the intricacies of the smiter extremely well, better than I could ever hope to articulate, lol. These are just my opinions (and further options) expanding upon what you've already covered. I also exclusively play Hardcore, so that may be why I tend to stick strictly to my own variant of the smiter listed above, in case that makes any difference or if anyone was wondering. I have NEVER died with this build to date - except for once, in an full game, accidentally entered trist without getting BO first (in a public game, so of course they brought all 3 ubers to the entry portal, which used to cause severe lag alone back in d2 LoD when they had a ton of summoned minions, lmao.) @@MrGreen-sw1ly I like it. I was tossing up between hammerdin and blizz sorc but decided on bliz sorc so as to not double up on paladins. most likely my 4th char will be hammerdin
@@Phyx1u5 I've been watching a lot of youtube video to enhance my knowledge. I've played since the original Diablo. Tired of D3 but I have to be mindful of disconnect and lags. My paladin will be holy fire then respect to hammer eventually. Sorc is a good class but I am afraid of lags/dc. I only play HC so it makes paladin ideal as starter. Trust that I will eventually play every class but barb will be last.
I've been playing D2 LoD the last month. I've found multiple HRs but no GFace despite doing many hell meph runs/chaos sanctuary. A crafted open wounds belt also would be better to use as a budget example and you can also craft gloves with crushing blow and IAS. It's unlikely that everyone is going to find a tgods/string in their first two weeks. I didn't even make a smiter and did ubers with a hammerdin using smite/concentration and this type of gear.
Max holy shield and 50 plus crushing blow is all you need. May as well be a hammers like me. When you get to lvl 91 you have max hammers and can do tristam with three piece swap.
To handle uber mephisto salvation aura is not the only option. You can also use your own conviction aura. If its high enough level it will overwrite uber mephistos convition aura. It needs to be level 21 or higher for that purpose. Salvation aura is probably the better option skill point wise, but i think it's important to know about that possiblity.
Great guide! I am thinking of starting blizz sorc just to MF for fun. Probably later down the road, I'll build some characters to do Uber runs! Thanks again for the great videos!
You also need a build to farm keys otherwise you're going to pay a premium for them. People used to run lightning sorc back in the day, but Nihlathak was always a pain with that build, so some people ran their pitzerkers instead.
Fleshripper Unique Fanged Knife is a great weapon to use for Ubers as well. No knockback, and you can put a Shael in it to make it faster, or anything you want really. Also, I put lots of points in Zeal and use it on trash mobs to AoE them down quicker than smite.
@@unicyclepeon A few places it can drop because of its 76 item level. On Hell difficulty: Tower level 2, Hephasto, and pretty much anywhere after that, but I did read on the wiki that there is a high chance for Act 5 just about anywhere to drop including bosses and Baal. Personally, I'm just going to trade for one in D2R unless you are talking solo, then best of luck my friend! :+) I like fleshripper because it is so under the radar of good items you can get it cheap and save the runes you would use on grief.
I know I NEED to play a paladin but dang it Dbrunski they’re so boring! I also know I NEED to play a sorcerer to get some gear farming going right away… But that summon necromancer is calling my name! I don’t know if I can resist! Help me Dbrunski!
I feel the exact same way man. I know I need to start with a sorc or pally, but summon necromancer is just too appealing. Especially since we didn't get to play it at all during beta.
Just play whatever is most fun to you! :) Im still deciding whether I go Sorc or Summoner Probably Sorc because Teleport is just too good to farm Andy, Mephisto etc But Hell with crap gear is a nono 😂 Gotta stick with Nightmare for a bit
It's a game, play what you find to be fun. If that's a meta blizzard sorc because it's the optimal new ladder character cool, if it's off meta kicksin that's cool too. Never forget to have fun, it's a game don't force yourself to play what you don't want to because it's the "correct" way. I personally will be going either fishy or javazon.
Thank goodness I watch this again. I was like I dont remember something knocking back these minion so much. N man idk why I thought smiting was giving me life leech lol no wonder I be close to little to no hp lol.
I kinda have something similar in mind I was thinking to make a zealer for general pvm with 20s in sacrifice, zeal an fanaticism, and than do 20s in smite and holy shield. So I could be able to farm almost everything with first character. I guess he would be a jack of all trades but master of none. Plus the charge of paladins is quite decent way of moving around fast before having enigma.
considered a Tesladin zealer? besides dual dream, its endgame gear is pretty similar to smite, with grief or lastwish. And can do any content, even ubers at same speed if not faster.. Its expensive, but a fun, faster, and prolly more powerfull version of zealer, cause of the aoe dmg.
You should release a video about the scams for the new people or the people returning to D2. Ive played d2 since I was 10 and would consider myself very knowledgeable but I got scammed today with the oldest truck in the book (item switch and yes I’m ashamed lol) but thought it’d be nice if there was a video telling people how to avoid that. Love your videos! Been following you for years!
I'm using Wizardspike in my mainhand. Dmg doesn't matter, it comes from CB anyway. The all-rez is just great and keeps me safe even from Mephisto. It will take a bit more time but I prefer the safe way.
So hyped man my first game i ever pre ordered. Like always nice vid my man DB 🤘 Greetings from Germany !🍀 PS. I already asked u on another vid. Did u Wrestle or BJJ because of your cauliflower ears ?
That’s probably because crushing blow is %damage based on the current health of the monster you are hitting so the first hit will do much much higher damage than the second one.
Would you suggest farming keys first on a fresh sorc in singleplayer and make the smiter as second character as a priority? Or should you just farm runes/gear first before trying to get torches/anni?
I had the exact same question cause I was wondering what the best build is and if paladin is viable. Even though sorc can teleport I think it’s gonna be extremely difficult to handle nihlathak on a budget with that corpse explo and vipers
@@fazepozz3553 get a natures peace ring and use it while farming nihl. fairly cheap ring to get early on and will save you from that annoying corpse explosions.
A pure smiter probably the worst char for pvm, or grinding any content. So it would be alot slower to farm both gear and keys. A hybrid smite/zealer would prolly be better option if u wanna do both in 1 char at ladder reset. But obviously it be much quicker, and easier to farm gear and keys with either a light sorc(since countess is immun to fire and cold) or another caster with enigma in early game..
i was wondering what level you tested this on, lvl 95, just so people know, he run is going to be allot better than yours, due to him being that level, meaning that the % chance enemys will hit him is allot lower, as a general rule of thumb, level 80+ you will start getting hit allot let, i think, maybe its level 75 for pali/barb.. theres a whole lot to do with + / - negative chance to hit with all the classes, for example, a level 90 sorc with the same ar/def as a level 90 barb will have a lower chance to hit the barb, than the barb has to hit the sorc, its the same for monsters.. so please have that in mind when trying this, if you do die, even with the same hp/def, its likely due to your level :)
I was just wondering if D2R is going to allow a torch being placed in the shared stash on single player, because yeah I thought making a smiter early would be great for getting those torches for all classes on single player, but if they can't be placed in the stash then making that smiter might not be so useful.
They should allow us to have 1 torch in personal and 1 torch in shared; same for anni. But even if not, you can open portal in private game. Game will be continue to exist after 5 mins or so. Afterward, you can bring your other char to pick up the extra torch. I bought & have 2 account/pc, so stash won't be a problem. My real concern is that they don't make us to actually sell a soj to spawn DClone. My second account will be useful to spawn DClone & trade too.
I'm quite certain there won't be a limit to how many torchs/Annis you can have in your shared stash. I'm not 100% certain but they built the shared stash with the same code as plugy. So it should work the same. We won't know for sure until launch but I'm 99% sure.
@@stoobydoobydoo well if they used the code from Plugy they changed it, because in the D2R beta you couldn’t put the cube in the shared stash, only the personal stash
I'm new to D2 and would like to learn more about base items used in runewords. Do you have a video just explaining the basics of what finding a "good" base actually means? Thanks for the guides by the way.
instead of venom gloves use 20% ias gloves, you already have 105% CB without them... your current build is missing 10% ias to hit second fastest smite BP
I love budget builds. Ty for shearing. Why not rattlecage vs Duress ? Is it harder to get or is it bad for the monster to flee ? It does have 10 more CB and a 1 OS than duress. But no FHR, no OW and no res. Also I think a few roles at craft cloves is cheaper than venom grip. Off topic. Can crossbows benefit if I wear CB gear ?
I’m assuming the most “optimal” early season setup is to go Blizzard Sorc, farm Meph and then build a smiter as your second character? Edit: or perhaps a Sin as first MFer for a fun initial play through since the devs confirmed today that they fixed the monster bug with traps
That's how it's been for quite some time. Teleport is too powerful. So if you wanna go for speed yeah, but you can play any way you want. That's also assuming you play solo. Still need barb in a party.
pure smiter is considered a bosskiller, and really not a good first char to either farm gear or keys. A sorc is the logic starter cause of free teleport.. Tho have in mind countess is immun to fire and cold resist, so unless u break it by using infinity, blizz sorc would not be a effective keyfarmer. Better go lightning.
@@gogetthegimp my sorc uses static on her , spam telekinesis for knockback on a wall and let merc easy kill her so you can farm her with metorb sorc too
I generally just do Ubers on my hammerdin. Max all hammer skills max Fanaticism 1point smite 1 point holy shield with perf gear and charms both end up around 20points but very budget friendly
I have a fully decked out Smiter for Single Player(no-pluggy), I am interested to see how will he perform against the Ubers and their minions with Single-Player only gear! :)
What do you think about using light sabre as a replacement for tgods w/ string of ears vs. Uber mephy? Then heavenly light with SoE for everything else?
Just my personal opinion but i like to put like 10 points into zeal instead of res fire just so that once you swap to grief you can actually pvm more then boss's but still do the ubers in pretty cheap gear (even LS can work)
If I had to add anything to Pros, it'd be that Smiters (or Paladins overall) are the easiest class to stack both @Res and Block. Just like DB said, it's a Boss killer and you ain't gonna be stacking MF and farming solo or anything like that (asides from organs/torches), but if you're playing with a friend and he/she's running a Sorc, not that horrible, Sorc teleports, you focus Bosses.
hey DBrunski, would you recommend using this build for farming travincal too or should i make a "hork" barb strictly for that? happy hunting in D2R -- Super excited for the launch this coming week.
Hey could you mention the official club option for looking for group on consoles? It's basically like a game lobby where you can name your own game or say what you're looking for or have to trade and can form groups from there. I feel if more people know about it consoles might not be dead on launch. Thanks.

Dear DBrunski, could you also explain the level-up process, as in what skills and gears to use in the beginning, when to redistribute skill points, etc. That would be very helpful for someone who hasn't played D2 in years, thank you!
It's usually best to level as any other paladin. Usually as zealer then switch at end game. Smite is a painfully slow leveler imo
Have someone rush you and just Baal xp farm until you puke
my fav budget paladin weapon when i played was heavens light, it was cheap to trade for but offered so much at 2 sockets
can't wait for the launch.
my personal first 3 characters I plan to build in order:
1) mf bliz sorc
2) smiter
3) javzon
For me:
1 Hammerdin
2 Trapsin
3 Smiter
4 Blizz sorc
@@MrGreen-sw1ly I like it.
Besster D2 Kanel den es gibt, verfolge dich seit Jahren.Danke für deine Mühen ,habe schon viel von dir gelernt.
Thanks for this build! Currently leveling up paladin to finally do Ubers myself! Can’t wait :)
Your channel has blown tf up ever since resurrected got announced.
I took off next Thursday and Friday from work. Never thought I would ever do that lol.
Max holy shield and 50 plus crushing blow is all you need. May as well be a hammers like me. When you get to lvl 91 you have max hammers and can do tristam with three piece swap.
bro your guides are getting better and better, love the content!
I would go with LoH for the gloves.........really easy to find too as well. I find em ALL the time x'D !
Fleshripper Unique Fanged Knife is a great weapon to use for Ubers as well. No knockback, and you can put a Shael in it to make it faster, or anything you want really. Also, I put lots of points in Zeal and use it on trash mobs to AoE them down quicker than smite.
I've never found a fleshripper, can hell meph drop it? Or is somewhere else required? Self found solo.
This is the second character I' will be building when D2R drops
Same, sorc will be my first, hbu?
@@sabasklahn6012 yep, bliz sorc
Sorc for noobs
@@Ehrle6969 well gotta move up somehow. I will be sorcing too sadly and then pally.
@@Ehrle6969 sorc is the most popular and easiest farmer to set up. I have over 8k hrs on sorc lol
You can beat ubers on a summon necro with shopped gear, my friend. Just revive the club bois from the river of flame
Lol same thougts as you :D
Just play whatever is most fun to you! :)
Im still deciding whether I go Sorc or Summoner
Probably Sorc because Teleport is just too good to farm Andy, Mephisto etc
But Hell with crap gear is a nono 😂
Gotta stick with Nightmare for a bit
It's a game, play what you find to be fun. If that's a meta blizzard sorc because it's the optimal new ladder character cool, if it's off meta kicksin that's cool too. Never forget to have fun, it's a game don't force yourself to play what you don't want to because it's the "correct" way. I personally will be going either fishy or javazon.
litterally gonna be my first go to
Lightsabre isnt bad for smiter. Harder to get but I remember it ignoring target defense or something. A ravenfrost is also very nice! Good video
What the heck, I just tried an Uber budget smiter for the 1st time and also got a 12/13 Zon torch ... Right at the same time you made the video lol
Really appreciate your videos, Dbrunski. It's almost time!
That poster is so sick
Thank goodness I watch this again. I was like I dont remember something knocking back these minion so much. N man idk why I thought smiting was giving me life leech lol no wonder I be close to little to no hp lol.
Just to add
Nice to usually have 1 full belt slots of 4x mana pots just for baal
In addition to 12x full pots
Thanks for the guide.
Been enjoying the content alot thank you!
Its expensive, but a fun, faster, and prolly more powerfull version of zealer, cause of the aoe dmg.
thanks for refresh and budget build!
im glad to see the hype around the best game in the world being reworked.
Great unique video. Anychance you can cover more about where to put stat points. No one ever talks about it. Thank you ;)
Wouldn't tweak this, this is a really really great budget build, thanks dbrunksi.
The funny part is, I had more trouble on the day uber trist was added using a completely decked out zealer than a smiter worth 5 um runes lmao
Awesome video thanks Dbrunski!
you should make a vid about early ladder farming strategies
Make a sorc. Farm.
@@unsubme2157 1) playing hc. 2) with no downtime whats the best farm now? Maybe a certain key? Pindle? Torches, organs...
I'm using Wizardspike in my mainhand. Dmg doesn't matter, it comes from CB anyway. The all-rez is just great and keeps me safe even from Mephisto.
It will take a bit more time but I prefer the safe way.
So hyped man my first game i ever pre ordered. Like always nice vid my man DB 🤘 Greetings from Germany !🍀
PS. I already asked u on another vid. Did u Wrestle or BJJ because of your cauliflower ears ?
~10:35 When beginning the Baal fight, it looks like smite did more damage before Fanaticism turned on.
I like the pure Fire sorc lots of super cheap runewords to buff her, and you can just have smite/zealer farm for T keys.
i was wondering what level you tested this on, lvl 95, just so people know, he run is going to be allot better than yours, due to him being that level, meaning that the % chance enemys will hit him is allot lower, as a general rule of thumb, level 80+ you will start getting hit allot let, i think, maybe its level 75 for pali/barb.. theres a whole lot to do with + / - negative chance to hit with all the classes, for example, a level 90 sorc with the same ar/def as a level 90 barb will have a lower chance to hit the barb, than the barb has to hit the sorc, its the same for monsters.. so please have that in mind when trying this, if you do die, even with the same hp/def, its likely due to your level :)
@@MrGreen-sw1ly yea but not on console
I'm quite certain there won't be a limit to how many torchs/Annis you can have in your shared stash. I'm not 100% certain but they built the shared stash with the same code as plugy. So it should work the same. We won't know for sure until launch but I'm 99% sure.
@@stoobydoobydoo well if they used the code from Plugy they changed it, because in the D2R beta you couldn’t put the cube in the shared stash, only the personal stash
1 word. Mulechars
I'm new to D2 and would like to learn more about base items used in runewords. Do you have a video just explaining the basics of what finding a "good" base actually means? Thanks for the guides by the way.
Kingslayer is a great mid range wep to use
good content bud. keep it up
instead of venom gloves use 20% ias gloves, you already have 105% CB without them... your current build is missing 10% ias to hit second fastest smite BP
If you can find them. He said items within 2-3 weeks of ladder.
@@ulriksbiceps390 You can buy 20ias from hell charsi

Good Video bro!
Thanks, DB. Great vid
amazing guide! it would be hard to get a lvl6 life tap wand without shopping though. (remember you are clvl85)
Awesome video DB. One week BROTHA!.
Great video man.
@@bliceone figured as much. Haven’t played bnet for a good 6-8 years, mostly just SP mods here and there
pure smiter is considered a bosskiller, and really not a good first char to either farm gear or keys. A sorc is the logic starter cause of free teleport.. Tho have in mind countess is immun to fire and cold resist, so unless u break it by using infinity, blizz sorc would not be a effective keyfarmer. Better go lightning.
@@gogetthegimp my sorc uses static on her , spam telekinesis for knockback on a wall and let merc easy kill her so you can farm her with metorb sorc too
@@gogetthegimp Or just get a mercenary 🤷♂️.
I generally just do Ubers on my hammerdin. Max all hammer skills max Fanaticism 1point smite 1 point holy shield with perf gear and charms both end up around 20points but very budget friendly
+19 skills is not "budget friendly". :)
@@unicyclepeon but you don't need them you can run quick ubers wit 1point smite and HS
Thanks for the guide! Do you have an earlier body armour to get as you work to the Um for the Duress?
Great video!
For first hours ubers i recommend conv smiter, for safe kill meph.
Nice guide :D
hey thanks 👍 nice video bud 😁
Damn Dbrunski! Your gonna hit 100k subs before you know it!
Why do you need the 5% cb from venom gloves if you already have 105 without it?
I missed the King of action rpg Games, D2. Just like the good ol' days.
hey DBrunski, would you recommend using this build for farming travincal too or should i make a "hork" barb strictly for that?
happy hunting in D2R -- Super excited for the launch this coming week.
I think you'd be better with a goldfind hork barb. Especially how easy gambling gonna be
just wondering. For the Black, do you have to use a flail? Does it have some essential attributes like a monarch shield?
What's the best build to start with? This one or a sorc to do MF runs and slowly build up items?
Sorc for sure
Hey bud any chance on an updated Necro video with the GG items instead of budget similar to how you did the sin? As always love the vids!
This seems actually doable 😀
Without lobby to get a torch is my biggest issue.
Hey could you mention the official club option for looking for group on consoles? It's basically like a game lobby where you can name your own game or say what you're looking for or have to trade and can form groups from there. I feel if more people know about it consoles might not be dead on launch. Thanks.
Yo...what is this. I need it in my life.
@@hawklaughing1839 if you're on xbox go to the game hit start (not a) go to official club then go to multiplayer and it has what's essentially the console version of game lobbies
What
What class/spec is good for key farming. My idea was blizz sorc to gear a hammedin to farm keys then make a smiter.
That's basically what I'm going to do, so you got it right I'd say. You can farm keys with sorc too, just not as tanky as hammerdin
Playing hardcore so not ballsy enough to take my sorc for keys lol
@@jigs4262 My HC summon necro could safely farm act 1 and 5 keys. Had to use a sorc for Act 2 though; summons don't do well in the Arcane Sanctuary.

3:10 Hold on.. I was sure that knockback from weapon is ignored when using Smite (you only get standard knockback from the skill itself)
