No offense but you aren't playing the ww barb right. Don't click on the enemy, click past them. That's why it feels clunky. You gotta ww through them, not ww to them. Love your vids man.
Another thing I wanted to add is an offhand Brand setup. You can run Brand on the offhand as a barb, eliminating the need for Enigma + Reaper merc. The lvl 16 amp usually just about instaprocs and covers the whole screen. It enables you to use Fortitude over Enigma as well and Pride on your merc. It does more damage, but also less mobile. Yet I run your exact same setup when I play my barb as WW as you do, but it's not the max damage option (by far actually). Demon Crossbow is the prefered base for Brand imo, as it enables a certain bear necro build that's a lot of fun.
Jacob Hall sadly Whirlwind does not classify as a legit inferior skill so it will not be buff in the future in Resurrected 🤣🤣🤣. But keep your hopes up if they do water down Blizz/Cold Sorc a bit gave melee builds more life besides Zealot and Hammerdin.
Highly recommend Zweihander for Grief. It has -10 WSM so you always get 4f even with 30 ias on Grief, and it has an attack range of 3 rather than 2 on Phaseblade, which helps you hit targets MUCH easier. Although you don't need to repair Phaseblade, Zweihander is an exceptional class weapon, so repairing it is actually very cheap. By the way, before starting to whirlwind, you can swing your Grief a few times to trigger its level 15 Venom (easy to tell as your swords will turn green)
big tip for the WW barbs out there, if u have't alrdy done it type /nopickup in the chat, it will make it so u dont accidently click on items when ur trying to WW with leftclick!
side note....war cry is also gold for hell rushing people....it deals with the phys immunes brilliantly until you can get items that handle that for you. I also ran EBOTD in off hand....lose the bonus to skill but the mana steal meant i could keep whirlwinding through mana burns
Hey...that was my old build back in like 2001 (lance barb with Iceblink splitmail)...I unfortunately got tricked into trading the Iceblink away like a year or so later and eventually found another version that didn't work as well....but man was that a devastating build and FUN. I guess I just found it funny that the first comment on this thread was using the same exact build I used when I was like 14-15 years old. I think I sold that account on paypal for like $100. I honestly can't even relate to this video, I didn't really play the expansion and know next to nothing about runes/charms or anything else in the expansion (hell watching this barb teleport just blew my mind and have no idea how he did it). I would save my imbue for a high level superior lance and usually ended up with a high dmg rare lance.
Also in Grim Dawn, PoE and Last Epoch (the games on top of my head with WW skill) the attack is AoE, I think in D2 it hit's one target at a time which is garbage. Group of enemies clunked together you WW from one side to another and some of them wasn't even damaged.
i play wwsin. how to point at the ground when there are mobs everywhere? i seem to do short ww due to often accidentally selecting mobs instead of ground.
For my WW Barb I use a Doom Glorious Axe as the rangeadder is 3 on that weapon making hitting things really nice. On my merc I use the act I merc and gave her a Faith weapon to increase my attack speed when I run into immunes and I use berserk on them, most of the time I one shot them with this weapon. I maxed out WW, BO, Berserk, and Axe mastery. I use fortitude armor for the life and extra damage which makes it much better than using two Grief's in my opinion. I did have a barb that used a eth glorious axe BD weapon but I stopped playing for awhile and they deleted my account. I like the look of the axe and like I said it has a range adder of 3 so you can hit stuff better the range adder for the blades you use is 1 each equaling 2 in total.
I used to always play ww barbs, because they seemed more iconic, but my wrist started hurting so I tried a frenzy barb, and dude, so much better imo. Playing is faster, a lot more precise and smooth, and if you don't use enigma it's the fastest you can get around...
Stupid question and might have been answered in clip, but does the off-hand Grief Damage matters as much for this WW barb? On a budget for the 2nd Grief PB

I don't get why you don't use storm shield and botd zerker axe. You easily pass the required ias and your blocking chance is huge including your survivability.

Does the Whirlwind length matter with phaseblade Grief? The sole reason why to keep whirlwinds short is that it automatically strikes on frame 4 and then 8. After those first strikes, its attack speed is influenced solely by weapon speed. The fastest attack speed with WW one can get is that the weapon hits every 4th frame. To get there, one should have -35 weapons speed on one handed weapon and -60 on two handed weapon. Grief in phaseblade is -60 at worst, so, does it matter how you use your WW, when you have Grief in PB? I just guess you can do sweeps of any length you want and it wont influence attack speed.
I'm gonna roll with a BotD Ghost Spear. Swap for frenzy with Dual Death PB, the speed gain goes into ww. No enigma on my barb! Enigma is for farmers, and they farm for the barb.
I don't know if you still read this but why go for so much deadly strike when you get crit from sword mastery? anything above a 100% will not do anything afaik. Also not so sure about the gloves. You don't just face demons right? Seems like other gloves would make more sense. Anyway appreciate the video!
Best, from an overall perspective, I'd say no. Most iconic melee build in Diablo 2? I think so. It does have its moments. Those early BvB duel seasons were a lot of fun.

Range matters for whirlwind. Phase blades have a range of 2, Grief zweihanders are range three and hit the last ww breakpoint for swords at -35 weapon speed. Keeping whirlwinds short makes sense for slower weapons coz the first two hits from whirlwind are free and not dependent on weapon speed. But with any weapon thats hits -35 for 1h and -60 for 2h keeping whirlwinds too short will reduce the over all damage output as there are few frames lost between stopping and starting whirlwind With weapons that hit last ww breakpoints like your griefs, best way to whirlwind is to skirt the edges of the pack till it gets smaller and smaller.

(Merc) You already have +190-240%ED on the weapon itself AND a might aura will give +300%ED at merc lvl 91. Will 50% increased ED be better than 20% crushing blow? Or even a Lo rune for 20% deadly strike? 3. IMO ber is better than cham in helmet when you wear enigma. You can always save your merc by teleporting away (and then back in if you want)... just a preference thing here. What do you think? 4. What are your general thoughts about ww barbs with shields?
Hey ty for the kind words. 1. For pvp I am honestly not sure. I don't pvp. 2. Def is other options besides an ohm rune. Lo rune would work well. Ber rune I think is overkill. I think you get enough cb from g face and gores on the barb. 3. There are def other viable options for the helmet. I like cham so merc doesn't get slowed down. I only have 2 eth vamp gazes so will take me a while to ber a second one. 4. Shields are cool for ww barb. Its less dmg tho. But more survivability. Pick your poison.
1) in pvp you use beast off-hand for ow. gloves are trang oul, you need fcr 2) you're confusing local ed and global ed. Ed on the weapon is not additive with other sources of ed. ohm in an eth thresher gives base dmg equal to 50% of an eth thresher's dmg, so 9min and 105max. Those extra 9-105 dmg then get boosted by global ed (220ed might, 200 from str, 50 from jab Lo is indeed better than ohm, lo is 15% more dmg, ohm is 12% more Ber is best but hard to quantify lvl91 merc has lvl19 might which is 220ed, not 300 4) if you like losing half your dps you can go with a shield
i think for the most part WW Barb is dope if you avoid a few places. The tower level's where the countess is should be avoided for those stupid flying thingies that burn your mana to zero instantly when they hit you. Also WSK levels 1-3 are a pain depending on which monsters spawn because of the lightning shooters and mana burn. that's if i remember correctly. other than that the WW Barb is kind of fun to use if you have good gear. I like to use a dual wielding sword build always. i use a grief (mandatory, & sometimes you might want to make a couple until you hit that 39%+ IAS for max WW attack speed Breakpoint if you're using a colossus blade instead of PB for dmg of course) and can use secondary ETH BOTD or ETH Oath in a balrog blade or colossus sword (i use balrog blade for higher max damage & oath because of IAS, Max WW attack speed) or secondary option dual axes w/ same runewords or 3rd option if i'm feeling frisky throw on a ETH BOTD war pike. The key for the barb build imo is having really good rings w/ dual leach & strength or dex depending on your gear/charms. to keep damage high and AR high. A must though is the highlords ammy. that 33% deadly strike does more than any amount crushing blow ever did in my experience unless you're only fighting ubers or maybe pvp idk i don't do that much. i've done builds where i stacked the crushing blow to 100% and a build w/ 10-15% CB always seems to work way better when you're trying to get through monster packs faster. thats just my experience...

Dual wielding is bis for ww. Double the chances of crit/leach/crushing. But it is Also more expensive than just using 1 Big polear/sword/lesser Axe. Having more reach favors defensive whirls Aka moving away from mobs rather than Tri whirls- , so You can hit em better While they can't hit You (speciallu usefull vs mana burn+ might /fanatism mobs)
Breath of the dieing great poleaxe is a nice 2 handed option. Same with an eth tomb reaver with a zod rune and 2 ohm runes. I think that hits max ias bp but I would have to double check. Both aren't as good as dual grief tho
Was D2 Whirlwind barb the first ARPG spin2win build? Edit: On Grief it says, "Ignore Target's Defense" and well as "-25% Target Defense." Is anybody able to explain how that works? If it ignores defense, why would it need another minus defense modifier?
It's the flat number increase to damage per grief that's supposed to make it do more damage, but I'd need to see a side-by-side gameplay comparison before I believe it.
I am late, but I will say this. With 2 griefs, you will never need decrip to proc. Damage is already so high, it simply isn't needed. And increase speed can be detrimental. The slower you ww, the more times you will hit the same monster.

Project Diablo 2 is a mod, as far as i know Dbrunski is playing LOD in single player PlugY (PlugY is a mod that enables battle net features for singleplayer and adds a huge shared stash), but he also played mods like Project Diablo 2 (online)
@dbrunski125 running 1 x hoto and 1 x cta you can get +9 to battle orders instead of the +6. I used to run dual 6 bo cta's. I feel dual hoto's are better for a warcry barb.
I think Fortitude is better than Enigma here. Whirlwind as a skill allows you to reposition without the need for teleport if you know what you're doing. You can literally avoid being hit timing whirlwind right through entire packs of enemies.
the best item I ever used to make my barbarian OP even avoiding death from the thorn mobs was Delerium the helmet you can make that thing kept my hardcore barb alive through Hell against thorn mobs.
Don't think you need short WWs if you're already at max fpa breakpoint. It's mostly for slow 2hand to capitalize on the first two hits that are always 4 frames each.
the thing about beast is, that it can only be made with a an axe, that means your grief must also be an axe unless you want to max both axe and sword mastery. now assume you want to run grief/beast in both berserker axes. these are not indestructible, which means you will be running a lot to town to repair your weapons. the advantage of beast is, that you will gain extra ed / ar. on the other hand phaseblades have base attack speed of -30, meaning that you will always hit the max breakpoint with grief, therefore you can focus more on the +dmg rolls of the runeword and are not reliant on also a good attack speed roll
I definitely like the more modern take games have for ww style skills with full channeling. Feels much better to play. WW just feels really clunky to me.

My suggestion is to instead go with a strength-based botd GPA barb. Better reach, less clunky, and better damage. No real need for defense, especially if you are focused on pits.

Last time you said that Zealot is the best melee build and that there is no aoe melee dmg in D2. Have you discovered WW Barb just recently?

My build for a WW barb would be... 20 WW, 20 wep Mastery, 20 distributed between Natural Res/Iron Skin, 20 Shout, 20 BO, 1 Battle Command, 1 Increased Speed, maybe juste a little bit less into Natural Res/Iron Skin to put some into War Cry, if you realy like.
Best D2 content on UA-cam by far

They nerfed the Barb a long time ago. In the 2000s he was one of the best... Now his one of the worst characters...

Online characters are stored on battle.net servers. You can't edit them.

1. Would Dracs be better for pvp? Some people say the open wounds is great paired with high lifesteal (NOT lifetap). I know this build is specifically for PVM, but just curious what you think?
2. Is Ohm rune really better than Ber rune in Reaper's Toll? (Merc) You already have +190-240%ED on the weapon itself AND a might aura will give +300%ED at merc lvl 91. Will 50% increased ED be better than 20% crushing blow? Or even a Lo rune for 20% deadly strike?
3. IMO ber is better than cham in helmet when you wear enigma. You can always save your merc by teleporting away (and then back in if you want)... just a preference thing here. What do you think?
4. What are your general thoughts about ww barbs with shields?

1. For pvp I am honestly not sure. I don't pvp.
2. Def is other options besides an ohm rune. Lo rune would work well. Ber rune I think is overkill. I think you get enough cb from g face and gores on the barb.
3. There are def other viable options for the helmet. I like cham so merc doesn't get slowed down. I only have 2 eth vamp gazes so will take me a while to ber a second one.
4. Shields are cool for ww barb. Its less dmg tho. But more survivability. Pick your poison.

1) in pvp you use beast off-hand for ow. gloves are trang oul, you need fcr
2) you're confusing local ed and global ed. Ed on the weapon is not additive with other sources of ed. ohm in an eth thresher gives base dmg equal to 50% of an eth thresher's dmg, so 9min and 105max. Those extra 9-105 dmg then get boosted by global ed (220ed might, 200 from str, 50 from jab
Lo is indeed better than ohm, lo is 15% more dmg, ohm is 12% more
Ber is best but hard to quantify
lvl91 merc has lvl19 might which is 220ed, not 300
4) if you like losing half your dps you can go with a shield
@@warptens5652 you would not notice a diff between 12 and 15 ed on a merc (point 2). Pretty sure I said shield was less ed (point 4)

i think for the most part WW Barb is dope if you avoid a few places. The tower level's where the countess is should be avoided for those stupid flying thingies that burn your mana to zero instantly when they hit you. Also WSK levels 1-3 are a pain depending on which monsters spawn because of the lightning shooters and mana burn. that's if i remember correctly. other than that the WW Barb is kind of fun to use if you have good gear.
I like to use a dual wielding sword build always. i use a grief (mandatory, & sometimes you might want to make a couple until you hit that 39%+ IAS for max WW attack speed Breakpoint if you're using a colossus blade instead of PB for dmg of course) and can use secondary ETH BOTD or ETH Oath in a balrog blade or colossus sword (i use balrog blade for higher max damage & oath because of IAS, Max WW attack speed) or secondary option dual axes w/ same runewords or 3rd option if i'm feeling frisky throw on a ETH BOTD war pike. The key for the barb build imo is having really good rings w/ dual leach & strength or dex depending on your gear/charms. to keep damage high and AR high. A must though is the highlords ammy. that 33% deadly strike does more than any amount crushing blow ever did in my experience unless you're only fighting ubers or maybe pvp idk i don't do that much.
i've done builds where i stacked the crushing blow to 100% and a build w/ 10-15% CB always seems to work way better when you're trying to get through monster packs faster. thats just my experience...

It's not at all usually
Dual wielding is bis for ww. Double the chances of crit/leach/crushing. But it is Also more expensive than just using 1 Big polear/sword/lesser Axe.
Having more reach favors defensive whirls Aka moving away from mobs rather than Tri whirls- , so You can hit em better While they can't hit You (speciallu usefull vs mana burn+ might /fanatism mobs)
Breath of the dieing great poleaxe is a nice 2 handed option. Same with an eth tomb reaver with a zod rune and 2 ohm runes. I think that hits max ias bp but I would have to double check. Both aren't as good as dual grief tho

Edit: On Grief it says, "Ignore Target's Defense" and well as "-25% Target Defense." Is anybody able to explain how that works? If it ignores defense, why would it need another minus defense modifier?
Ignore target defense doesn't work on bosses. The -25 works at half efficiency on bosses

More damage
It's the flat number increase to damage per grief that's supposed to make it do more damage, but I'd need to see a side-by-side gameplay comparison before I believe it.
dual wield ww hits twice as often as 1h + shield or 2h
2h deals about 50% more dmg per hit but half as many hits so the dps isn't there
I am late, but I will say this.
With 2 griefs, you will never need decrip to proc. Damage is already so high, it simply isn't needed.
And increase speed can be detrimental. The slower you ww, the more times you will hit the same monster.

Project Diablo 2 is a mod, as far as i know Dbrunski is playing LOD in single player PlugY (PlugY is a mod that enables battle net features for singleplayer and adds a huge shared stash), but he also played mods like Project Diablo 2 (online)

I could be wrong but I think reapers is better with ias jewel/rune than Ed jewel/rune for bp.
@dbrunski125 running 1 x hoto and 1 x cta you can get +9 to battle orders instead of the +6. I used to run dual 6 bo cta's. I feel dual hoto's are better for a warcry barb.

Love your content man. I just found 4 bloodletters on my plugY so I made a WW barb. Just got him to lvl 30, WW is so hard to use!
I think Fortitude is better than Enigma here. Whirlwind as a skill allows you to reposition without the need for teleport if you know what you're doing. You can literally avoid being hit timing whirlwind right through entire packs of enemies.
finally got my enigma. I may have to make a barb. Either this or pitzerker.

the best item I ever used to make my barbarian OP even avoiding death from the thorn mobs was Delerium the helmet you can make that thing kept my hardcore barb alive through Hell against thorn mobs.
Don't think you need short WWs if you're already at max fpa breakpoint. It's mostly for slow 2hand to capitalize on the first two hits that are always 4 frames each.

the thing about beast is, that it can only be made with a an axe, that means your grief must also be an axe unless you want to max both axe and sword mastery. now assume you want to run grief/beast in both berserker axes. these are not indestructible, which means you will be running a lot to town to repair your weapons. the advantage of beast is, that you will gain extra ed / ar.
on the other hand phaseblades have base attack speed of -30, meaning that you will always hit the max breakpoint with grief, therefore you can focus more on the +dmg rolls of the runeword and are not reliant on also a good attack speed roll

I definitely like the more modern take games have for ww style skills with full channeling. Feels much better to play. WW just feels really clunky to me.

I remember rocking a pretty gg ww barb years ago. I think I was rocking dual ebotd in CB's. I still prefer frenzy though.
My suggestion is to instead go with a strength-based botd GPA barb. Better reach, less clunky, and better damage. No real need for defense, especially if you are focused on pits.
You dont need HOTO playing as Barbarian, shit isn't that cheap. U can play with 2 javelins with +3 warcrys
Can just use 2 Wiz spikes. 50fcr per dagger.
