The production value of your videos has gone way up. Can you do a true budget mf lightning sorc guide like the blizzard one with early gear and farming areas.
@@Dbrunski125 just watched the video. Thanks! I was looking for a budget build guide but I guess it is only an end game build like you cover in the video. I appreciate the hard work you have been putting into these videos!

Although you should prolly focus on more new player stuff to capitalize on d2r release Also maybe one on charsi imbue quest useful for maybe late game pelts etc. or is it better or use early game to upgrade ur worst in slot Tys keep up the great work👍
i find Normal Maggot Lair to be fine, by the time you get to Nightmare Maggot Lair you should be able to find Teleport Charge Staffs being sold by Merchants and that will negate the vast majority of your issues in Maggot Lair!
@@Templarfreak I can’t find a teleport staff at the vendor for the life of me. I’ve been trying at act 1 hell and she won’t spawn a tele staff! Any suggestions?
Tip for the people that are truly playing this with a budget (looking at you, budget build with HotA -.-). A townportal also works to group up your minions, just create one while waiting for Diablo to spawn, then quickly enter and leave town.
Another more cynical tip for people playing with a budget build. You should've made another character until you had the items to make a decent necromancer:P Sorry.
@@sirris4330 Sweet let me make a javazon to farm enough items to make a "decent" necromancer that I will use to farm enough items to make a decent javazon. Excellent logic.
No Enigma? Remember to "whip" your army! Here's how: Make sure regular attack is your left click. When running around ahead of your army, *press shift-left click, do a "basic attack" to stop moving.* Instead of "surround you first, then find enemies", the bulk of your army will continue forward and "find enemies first, then surround you"
also i love tele amulet, i know i know people will start talking about tele staff but my ocd prevents me from doing that because i would lose some summons if i change to offhand. Also funny how people say how is summon necro bad for maggot lair, i dont get it all it took was for one skeleton to kill one monster and than it was just a big corpse explosion chain reaction, its so satisfying im looking forward to hell cows.

As a skell-necro lover who's never had an enigma I can tell you this: town portal is your best ally. If you don't have a teleport wand on swap, just TP and come back to reposition all your summons and merc. It really is /that/ easy. They won't stay put like on teleport, bug you can make sure ALL your summons (even revives) go where you want. And tps are super cheap to "repair". Takes a bit of time, yep, but it works and its middle name is budget. Also, I'm a very lazy player, so I don't even cast CE, just amp dmg and watch. T-15 days!
This is useful but before you have enigma you absolutely need to have a teleport staff or wand on your switch. These can be shopped from a vendor as early as like normal A5 and it only takes like 30 minutes. Just to be clear for everyone, you are looking for a staff or wand with the suffix "of Teleport" in the name of the item.
@@gskills55 easiest is in act 3 at max level 23, because it'll be red (level 24 requirement) making it a lot faster to find as you can skip the staffs you can equip while searching.
If you use decrepify, clay golem, and cold mages then you can slow down the bosses to the point they hardly ever attack. That was how I was able to do it.
If you use decrepify, clay golem, and cold mages then you can slow down the bosses to the point they hardly ever attack. That was how I was able to do it.
to be honest this summoner guide is trash. First of all i would use hoto instead of arms of leoric, then a homunculus. Also your main dps source are not the skeletons. The mercenary is wrecking the bosses. In this Guide he gives him Insight? Ultimate Fail, sorry to say this. But this is trash on Summoners. Obedience is necessary for Summoner Necro on the Mercenary, because he can kill everything fast. I would rather drink Mana potions and melt Bosses in about 10-15 Seconds instead of waiting like 1-2 min to kill a boss.
Mercs and Summons teleporting with you is such a fun feature. When I level my Enchantress every season I go the bow route with act 1 merc and we both just fire constant projectiles while zipping around. Fun in HC.
@@unikage don't quote me on this, but i think (at least in project diablo 2 - a mod that has tried its best to keep to the original game while adding new content) auras in general were pretty bad for minions. In addition to that, since no extra damage is really needed on hell with high lvl gear, the insight makes the game a lot less annoying, corpse explosion spam can eat mana as can summoning, so I think insight is a really strong choice. I am not sure how fanaticism holds up against +5 skeles and skele mastery. Also leoric's arm gives 0.6 extra yards on corpse explosion. But I too had fanat/conc auras on my necro back in the day. I just see insight/corpse explosion dmg carrying AOE, and boss dmg is less important, at least early game.
@@ralphzimmermann I was thinking Fant in cube, take out 4 small charms. Swap Fant with CTA post the buff. I was a guy on reddit break down the skellie DPS. Apparently conviction is better then concentration. The reason here is, minions dont need massive damage buffs, they need the ability to hit. Stacking Conviction to lower Def and then also Fant they get a massive bonus to their ability to hit their target.
@@ralphzimmermann I do understand why you get insight though. As end of the day speed of farming is the key. While you can pot to get manna back having to pot all the time slows the run down.
Thanks man. This build looks like a lot of fun. I did this when I was younger and I had no idea what I was doing. Now that I am older I am so looking forward to this game here in the next couple weeks. I look forward to seeing you stream!
The secret to summoner builds, without enigma is simple - tomb of town portal! - when you come from our the portal all your minions are in the same spot you are - there's a few ways you can aduse this... Use it as a way to burst damage a single enemy or small group, it's a good way to absorb a hit or few hits, or as a good way to force enemy AI to focus on something that isn't the player. I remember back at launch everyone hated summoner Necro cuz internet speeds couldn't handle all the skeletons back in the AOL days lol
hey great vid, Summoner Necro main here, i just would like to point out to anyone thinking about using Revive on the zombies near Pindle, to keep in mind there is an intentional feature for those zombies to revive themselves after death, (the ones already dead on the ground included) and if you use "Revive" specifically on them before the ground zombies "get up" it will trigger during your revive's life and instantly kill it. sorry if its a bad explanation but as a Summon Necro you will absolutely see what i mean if you run in and spam revive right away. it's not game breaking but thought i'd let you guys know that this is why your revives expire right away if you use it there.
By far the best thing to do for budget players who don't have Enigma yet. Yes, the charges are expensive. That's why you don't teleport all over the place like an Enigma person does. But you can still use it to tele-stomp bosses or escape from tight situations. It's a LOT better than no teleport at all.
@@chriswhinery925 Another trick is to put 1 point in bone wall. Bone wall attracts monsters from far away for some reason so if you are in the open you know when to teleport and when not to teleport saving your charges.
Just start playing. Currently lvl 25 First time I heard of Enigma and teleport. I've been using the skill teleport on the skill tree all this time and why why has a long cool down.
Great guide! My favorite build in the game. I make it in hardcore with max block, max DR% and 125% fcr and that thing is invincible and extremely fun to play.
I always use a teleport amulet early on. It has 25 charges and really speeds up Chaos Sanctuary runs since you can teleport there and telestomp high priority targets.
same here. i mean, my *very* first "build" was a paladin. didn't even know what i was doing and i think i never made it past like act 4 normal or something (that was even back before lord of destruction lol). after that i started getting into necro builds, especially the armymancer. looked at guides and thought about everything very meticulously. still never made it past nightmare but maybe now with resurrected i'll finally have the patience to get to a point where i can actually see whether what i've thought of will work or not.
@@theanthill22 unfortunately looks like i'll have to be patient just to be able to play the game at all tho lmao. got hit with the avx bug, so the game literally does not start at all for me. they said they're working on a fix and, latest info from about 30 minutes ago, it'll probably take until monday (before the patch was scheduled for today, technically yesterday since we hit 00:00 - 12 am - 35 minutes ago lol). it *is* activision/blizzard tho, so i'm betting on 1 - 2 weeks minimum until the patch actually happens. if it happens at all and they'll not just say "fuck it, let's just raise minimum requirements instead" lol
To round up the skellies on Diablo (or other single targets), sometimes I'll open a TP go through then immediately return and all your sums stack on you.
Corpse Explosion is really powerful, especially at players 1 where it is god like. If you are playing in higher player count, on thing that works well is making a beast golem while wielding a pride, obviously very expensive but we're talking about a summoner that can solo p8 Baals, even more easily if you have access to enchant. As for the more traditional setup, one skill that I would strongly recommend getting is bone prison (or at least bone wall). This can be used to aggro whole mobs within exp radius for quick full clears, notoriously used in cows for example. It also doubles as safety vs extra fast packs.
@@Derzull2468 Yes, corpse explosion is definitely not as overpowered in higher player counts. P1 CE is god mode. It really gets slower past, say, P4. Still a very good skill and will do the job (just need to spam more), especially if you can have some debuff in the form of conviction on top of amplify damage. I played some mass summon necro one ladder, using pride, beast and 5k enchant and was really impressed with the results. This necro can kill P8 diablo/baal in just seconds, and can pretty much clear anything with reasonable speed. You can even clear uber tristram, with a bunch of urdar revives. The only caveat is that summoning all these guys and buffing them with chant every game is a lot of work and time. It was really badass to play however, totally worth it imo :D
As someone else already mentioned, beast and infinity merc are no brainers for top tier. The lowered defense from conviction means your skellies will actually hit regularly never mind the crushing blow for your merc. The max golem mastery for a clay golem that can be resummoned seems pointless along with max points in amp dmg so you don't have to cast a second time. All of these points should go into bone prison and bone wall for high bone armor protection. Without bone armor 1 bad telestomp in high player count games will get you deleted.
Infinity’s crushing blow and much higher dmg are great for boss killing and the conviction aura is going to increase corpse explosions dmg by a lot and let’s be honest here skeletons won’t clear maps corpse explosion will
@@GTurbo94 The other guys covered most of the reasons why infinity is the best choice for a merc, but I wasn't 100% sure on skelly dps so I did the math. Lets assume lvl 40 skelly and skelly mastery, lvl94 necro with beast and might merc. The necro pet calculator (can't link it) puts lvl 20 concentration skellies at 22244dps and non concentration skellies at 14771dps but that assumes they always hit. Skellies at this lvl have an attack rating of 2559 and Baal at 99 has a defense rating of 2847, using the hit chance calculation "200 * (ar / (ar + dr)) * (alvl / (alvl + dlvl))". This gives conc skellies a ~46% chance to hit. Accounting for -83% defense with infinity then this gives non conc skellies a ~80% chance to hit. So pride 22244 / 100 * 46 = 10232 dps, and infinity 14771 / 100 * 80 = 11816 dps. Infinity 11816 > 10232 Pride Even with the massive increase in dps the low chance to hit has a huge impact. A pride golem is the way to go.
Yeah that's a massive difference in kill time. Urdar revives are insane for the CB I usually go river of flame and if can't see any there I try canyon of the magi. Also the bull demons in act 5 can be rather powerful. And one not often mentioned since necro has CE already is the weird bloat guys from act 4/5 who have CE a few of them can really add to your damage in specific scenarios
personnaly, I cast an iron golem with a beast in eth bersker axe, IAS, huge ED, crushing blow and open wounds AND it gives fanatism aura to all your summon and it stacks with might from mercenary too!!! it also never died in 5 years of playing ;) ***wihout enigma nor teleport charge staff, you can use TP to town and get back to focus your army to a desired point
that is a great tip with tp to town and back and works great against bosses. If you run up to the boss and open a tp to town and then come back and all your minions are fighting the boss just like if you telestomped the boss.
@@JohnyMo88 its very great, but its also a lot trickier to use, and while it seems like it'll help a ton on Maggot Lair, it actually doesnt much. but beyond that, TP abuse is pretty good and you definitely should be doing it as much as possible if you have no Enigma or Teleport Staff. Definitely add it to your bag of tricks!
"Godly" summoner uses Beast for Fana aura and his merc uses Infinity to increase his and skeletons' chance to hit and boost CE damage (CE is 50% fire). You can use Pride to make an Iron Golem if you are wealthy enough to spare a few Cham runes
@@jschram84 Yes. Honestly, with his godly build he could be summoning mages too. At that level they'll be kicking out serious ranged damage. Maybe not as useful with Enigma, but they help out while you're walking along.
My favorite build. Starts of a bit slow but gains momentum when you start getting some +skills items. Being able to reposition summons and merc with enigma is huge.
I've been theory crafting, infinity on merc is strong, it's easier for necro to use a beast stat stick and make a pride golem. be sure to get the Act 2 merc that gives might aura as well. This is by far the strongest combo. Combining amp damage and conviction will increase skeles damage but more importantly corpse explosion. Xnumber of skeles in your army increases the value of the auras: Might, fanaticism, Concentration, along with lowered enemy defense/resistance from infinity and increased damage of 100% from amp damage. Your skeletons provide protection and work great as stand alone damage, with amp damage removing most immunities along with infinity this build can solo the game, including ubers. Build notes: Your largest damage dealer will still be corpse explosion (especially once paired with conviction aura/amplify damage curse) max this it will absolutely decimate everything on the screen. It does 70-120% of the monsters health as fire/physical damage, so points don't increase it's damage, only radius. This means the damage of the spell scales with the monsters health that you're using, so it scales extremely well even if your character is naked don't max mages or revives only skele both summon masteries and corpse explosion, after that I'd recommend bone prison for increased bone wall absorption unless you run max block, if you're making a beast, pride, or insight iron golem put points into blood golem or fire golem to synergize for iron golem to increase health (blood) or damage (fire) Trust me there will be plenty of sorcs and pallies, necro gear will be cheaper and with this build once you get enigma you power spike much more than other classes. Jah Ith Ber :) GLHF cya in d2r friends!
If my memory serves correct, using a tp also works, to an extent, to help get minions stacked up on bosses. It's not perfect at all, and might not work all that great sometimes. The summoner is also painful in the maggot lair and arcane sanctuary without enigma.
Before I got enigma, this was my primary Baal running tactic. You run up to him, decrepify so he doesn't teleport, pop a tp, maybe heal if you're still poisoned from wave 2, than go back in and refresh decrep. Relax and profit. Until you get enigma, you do want to use decrep, since if Baal teleports, you can't easily follow him. Once you have enigma, decrepify isn't really necessary.
Here is some of my opinions that differ from your build slightly: Hoto> arm of leoric -- Homunculous > darkforce -- Get insight by making a Iron golem out of a cheap Insight and then on merc an obedience or Inifnity for raw damage and crushign blow for act bosses -- put at least a point into dim vision for dangerous ranged mobs -- Consider 1 point into lower resist for group play with tons of ele dmg members
@@dontew90 cause you can get better stuff with + to ALL skills...and not just particular ones..it makes it silly but its good as a gap filler until you find those
@@kickassandchewbubblegum639 thanks bro yea I use hoto and spirit. I was gonna use something else maybe hoto or dark forces. Trying to prepare for ubers though I need some torches asap
@@dontew90 The bone prison proc can be really dangerous and/annoying for one thing. Getting bone prisoned with dangerous mobs can = death. For another, Hoto gives a TON of resists and a TON of FCR. When comparing +skills Hoto is as good as if not better because while arm gives more to skeletons alone, it doesn't do anything for curses and less for PnB. People are under the misconception that you need to pump skeletons with this build. Most of your damage is crushing blow on bosses and Corpse Explosion on everything else with your merc making corpses for you.
works very well. Only real issue is if the Iron Golem gets killed then you have to remake runeword. So if you do this pay very close attention to your Iron Golem's life.
@@Thynqikan From my experience pretty much the only thing that can kill the iron golem is Ubers, he gets hit HARD by bosses lol and I have lost many a pride to my own pride lmao
@@nova442 That works fin too but infinity actually does help your skele damage by a lot, don't forget conviction also lowers enemy defense by 83% making you melee skele's hit a lot more often plus obviously the mages if you're using them.
I always put 1 point in amplify damage, 1 in attraction (because then the monsters attack themselves and not your skellies, also it is super helpful in beginning, when you don't have an army to keep them attacking the one or few guys cursed with attract so that you get quick bodies for skellies. Also when I take poison nova, I put 1 point into lower resist.)
2:41 mostly with Baal its very tricky to have a bunch of revives, every time he spawns a new wave of minions the old corpses are despawned, so taking corpses straight from the throne room into the worldstone room is difficult, but also kinda sorta in general with bosses except the basic Andriel and Diablo, and due to that issue with revives wandering off and doing their own thing and really struggling to follow you most of the time, they end up getting despawned easily when trying to make your way to a boss, especially if you have a lot of bonus run/walk speed. they definitely seem to have the lowest priority with keeping your summons alive, its very rare that you'll see Skeletons or Mages despawn (though they can) but revives will despawn _all the time._ teleport helps with that a ton, but outside of that imo i kinda think the opposite of revive. revive is excellent to throw some extra bulk or extra ranged attackers that dont have shit damage without lower resist into your summons against groups of monsters, but against bosses its tricky to get a bunch of revives ontop of them. and usually, just your skeletons+ice mages+clay golem+merc+decrepify is enough for me to take out bosses anyway. the biggest reason why the revive AIs are so weird tho is because they keep the AI (and the abilities, with some exceptions) of the monster that you're reviving. so for instance, Fallen will still dart in, get a few attacks off, then run away. Wraiths can still pass through walls and monsters. Vampires and Greater Mummies will still stay pretty far back and cast spells. etc, etc
You can easily town portal out of the throne room, go to a waypoint where desired revive-target mobs are, then run back to the waypoints to Act5 and re-enter your portal. Some madmen brought revived Hall Of Vaught pit vipers against Hell Baal and used their bugged omega-poison to destroy him for probably the craziest example of this. The main issue with Revive is that the short time limit greatly limits the usefulness of them, but you can do some creatively ridiculous things with the skill.
@@joshuakim5240 well, when you're just playing casually / singleplayer, leaving to go get some revives is fine, but in the ridiculously fast-paced multiplayer you'll lag behind so much doing that but even in singleplayer, it's a little weird and awkward to leave to do that, and like you mentioned, due to the time limit for revives, as well as them so easily despawning, this is really annoying to do lol. like i said, the ice mage+clay golem+decrepify+merc combo is usually more than enough on their own to take out any boss, even on Hell Difficulty, but on Hell Difficulty going through normal non-boss related stuff can actually be a bit of a challenge for your skeletons if you dont have the best gear, and that's where Revives will help you way more imo. especially getting ranged attackers, as that will help you kill the first monster faster to start popping Corpse Explosions. melee revives dont help as much unless they're absurdly tanky, because there's only so much surface area in choke points to go around
Lol Shako is not expensive.~ Just grind some Andy's and "tadaa". If not use OrtSol Cap providing atleast 1 Skill. And ok the rings ARE but expensive but even without you loose 2 skills, it should still be possible to handle the things like shown.
Don't forget you can also buy a staff with teleport charges from Act 3 Normal onwards. I consider the Teleport repositioning kind of essential to focus the attacks more efficiently, it's a game changer. Sometimes you also find different gear with teleport charges (headgear /diadem, rings, amulettes, ...), so look out!

The summon necro is MY FAVORITE build, and it is the 2nd build I always go for after the MF sorc. The Enigma is THE MOST required object for this build end game. Period. If you want uber power with your nec, to be able to pour the damage from all your summons into 1 single spot, you must get it. Simple as that. Say what you want about revives, but I use the shit out of them. Believe it or not there are great PVP summon nec builds as well. Especially if you are going after melee classes, Iron Maiden turns them to fucking dust. I cannot tell you how many cocky WW barbs I've easily destroyed. They get pissed too, they will start typing "ok now duel me w/o IM". i'm like HA ok and you take your weapons off. Thanks for the ears. Decrepify is also great against casters. Catch a caster with decrep and telestomp em. Still gotta be careful though, sorcs do insane dmg.
You're budget gear was far from budget, and it clearly shows you aren't used to using low level gear anymore lol. But my man, you gotta use the TP trick for Diablo. A tele staff is great for a Summon Necro, they don't need enigma at all. A tele staff and some tps are all you need for quickly moving your army around. Appreciate the video. Love seeing the Necro get some love.
Yeah he had arachnids and soj etc. But... he also had zero summon gc's and not even a really shitty low tier torch. As well he had no grand charms at all and only the small charms at the top of his invent... So I think it kind of evened out and that was why he left almost his entire inventory empty.
@@asharedo "he only had some amazing gear, not all" is not the same as "he used budget gear". If you can justify using arachnids as budget, then you have lost the concept of budget. That's my problem with these budget videos. Most people who make them don't understand the concept of budget cuz they know how to farm efficiently, not realizing many people don't know how, and will only farm Meph (and even then, not that much). They don't wanna spend time farming, they wanna just go kill things. So no, it doesn't all wash out in the end. It's just a failure at making a budget recommendation by not understanding what budget truly is anymore.
@@cjleach3442 arachnids isn't that hard to find lol the only real issue I see is the sojs that's definitely not budget but even those are only a vex rune right now. That budget gear Necro can literally be made (minus the soj) for like a HR and half
Summon necro was my first build playing for the first time ever with the remastered game coming out. I’ve found after trying the other classes that if you run with a partner, you can just melt everything. It’s the best support character but can also do solo. I have a teleport staff to focus my summons, and I do like using revives during cow runs or just to have some more targets on the screen, but I have only a few points into it. I get plus 11 skills with gear. When I play with friends, generally all of our mercenaries stay alive because the summons draw the agro first. If you have been thinking about it, make a summon necro. Very fun and versatile class.
I've spend most of time since the game came out optimizing this build and with level +20 to summon skills and maxed summon skeleton + skeleton mastery allowing for 15 destroyer skeletons and also having an Enigma for constant teleporting, it's hands down the most fun build in the game.
Using a a weapon switch staff with TP charges is not as expensive to repair if you don't teleport through levels, just use it for the strategic advantage. And if your inventory is not filled with charms, you can easily get the money back by picking up and selling elite armors. Some parts of the game are a nightmare with summon necro without any ability to teleport - Countess or Mausoleum runs come to mind.
Thanks for doing this one! The summon necro was my first char 20 years ago and I'm def making another one and a good ol Fireclaws Werebear, slappity slap slap
Nice vid. I noticed that you don't whip your minions on the nigmaless build. In case your fans don't know, you can make your minions walk in front of you by doing a process called whipping. First make sure you have regular attack on left click. You start by walking in a direction then to do the whip you press+hold shift then left click in the direction you are walking (make sure you do it before your char would stop if you pressed nothing). You char will attack the air and your minions will continue to walk in front of you.
Do you have a true beginner guide handy for someone just starting out and leveling from scratch? What to get first, etc. Even the budget gear is pretty high up the level chart. Thanks.
when building from scratch you use what you find. Gear wise: try and shop a good wand in the beginning until you find better. As you level you can shop a telly staff to keep on switch. Lore, Stealth, rhyme, spirit will get your through the mid game. Rhyme can be made in the necy heads so keep an eye out for 2 socketed ones with good mods. Enjoy the journey!
Is there a reason you don't just use a teleport staff for the budget build? Edit: saw you mentioned near the end. I still think it's more budget than a cta but I see your point about how it takes a lot of gold. If you use it tactically though, like for bosses only, it's a good budget choice.
i think he said he was using the Call to Arms as mostly just a quality-of-life thing to show off the rest of the build, it's not intentionally apart of the build itself. I don't know why he's against Teleport Staffs either, expensive to repair? As opposed to spending your gold on what? the only thing you HAVE to spend gold on is reviving your Merc, and the only other thing WORTH using gold on is Gambling and even then that's arguable lmao
Naj's Puzzler seems to drop pretty easy and it has teleport. As far as the cost to repair, I would just suggest using it maybe 10 times per run in Chaos (5 or so will be used just getting to Chaos). Then use it to telestomp each boss. You will get a good 6 runs out of it before needing to repair (you should be selling elite armors you find in each run, similar to selling items after each Meph run.) Also, the cube recipe for repairing weapons and recharging them without gold is Weapon + Ort + any chipped gem. I would also add that you should only use Puzzler for starting out. The summon necro needs mobility or you are just wasting valuable time running to each zone/boss. I would not recommend a Summon Necro for your very first build. Make a Light Sorc that runs Countess, Summoner, and Meph. Then use the runes/loot to trade up for an Enigma. You will get there way faster with being able to kill these bosses way quicker than a Necro without Engima, and you will be able to have way more MF on the Sorc starting out. I call her the "Sugar Momma Sorc".
Love the videos, just one thing I would like to see is videos that you aren’t in the 90’s with all this gear. A lot of people watching want to know best way to level where to start putting points into a build sc/hc. Having all that gear for most is never gonna happen, so best low level/mid level alternatives are videos I would like to see. A necro at this level is a walk in the park, it unless u joining chant games, levelling solo it is very boring as a class along with plenty of other classes out there. Hopefully can see more videos with the bottom to mid level covered in the future.
I started a new plugy not too long ago, my first char was a summon nec in HC. In NM I found an ammy +nec skill with 20mf and 22 teleport charges lol. No swapping to offhand. Boy was that exciting. Funny how items like that can be so useful
I'm jealous. Ive always played single player, so have had to earn everything the honest way. I usually use wands on the offhand to tp. Would love to find that ammy. Wouldnt have to dream about the day I finally can make enigma :(
In my experience the A1 merc with Edge Runeword is all you really need. It is cheap to make (Amn rune is the highest needed) and 3 open socket bows are not that hard to find or trade. The lvl 15 Thorns Aura is gonna carry you through all difficulties with no problem, because a lot of the time your army will be amp-cursed and if you cast amp on the enemy as well, they deal crazy damage to themselves. Bosses are no problem either because bosses deal 4x damage to summons and therefore return more damage to themselves especially when amped and your army is cursed. The only problem are ranged mobs, but this is where dim vision comes in to keep them still so your army can get to them. And in Hell difficulty if you manage to find/trade for Sur and Ohm you can make Bramble armour for the merc which can raise thorns up to lvl 36, returning 1650% damage. The only problem thorns cannot solve is physical immune+stone skin monsters whos immunity cannot be broken even by amp damage. In this case elemental damage revives are more helpful than skelly mages.
I often see Enigma, CtA, and other dream equipment in your videos/guides. If Blizzard does a good job fighting bots and hacks in D2R, these will remain a dream for most players for a long time. Just saying. ^^
Yeah the teleporting is pretty important, helps to control the flow of battle, plus doorways and narrow passages can be annoying with a huge army cause there’s no room.
i beat everything up to hell baal with self-found gear. i've barely upgraded my stuff since normal. have like a total of +5 to skills and +few hundred mana from my items. it's definitely doable with crap gear. it's just really tedious and boring. don't really see the point in playing anymore lol
You can buy a teleport staff in NM Act 2 and onwards. It’s expensive to repair so you have to be choosy in when you use it. You can also find a teleport amulet, though I don’t know an easy way to find that.
As far as naked or budget set ups for the summon necro go...instead of maxing amp damage, max dim vision and only 1 point to amp damage. This will greatly increase the survival of you and your minions not just against ranged attackers but also limits the amount of attackers you fight at one time. Cast dim vision all around the screen and then cast amp damage only on the group you are attacking. This is so effective because you have 2 curses simultaneously going on around you. Each monster is only affected by one curse but the radius of dim vision with 20 points is much larger than the amp damage radius.
"Budget build" he says? Bro, i don't even have 1 skill charm and i cleared hell on 2 different chars.. This build is NOT viable unless you have end game gear at all.
For budget gear use a staff with teleport charges on weapon switch. You can shop those in act 3 normal. Makes all the difference in the world. Just make sure it only has teleport charges on it to keep the repair cost down.
The only reason to use Skeletal Mages endgame is to add some extra damage to your top end. Like revives, but for less damage. Mage AI is somewhere between skellies and revives. Might/Amp add nothing. They might face an immune, or a bunch of cold mages shatter dead mobs rather than leaving corpses. They might get around a phys immune for you... but using CE on the surroundings works too. Plus, they simply take time. You don't need 'em all up always
Ignore builds what use Enigma / use Builds what use Physical and melee / put your attack skill on right mouse button and hold it to move , it will target stuff automaticly. no need to get your fingers and wrist tired. just hold to move, and when enemies come near it and auto targeting to kill and continue running after everthings dead *dont move your mouse over items text thou, that will cancel it , so keep your mouse cursor in distance
2 or 3 minutes is great. I used to save and exit multiple times trying to find an all-skill shrine to buff them further. :) I went with the Iron Golem, but I was pissed when he randomly despawned... eth Beast Decapitator lost to the shadow realm forever ;( :D
I had an awesome summoner 15 years ago with Beast, Pride and the armor which gave your merc and minions Thorns Aurora. Everything melted even in players 8
I remember watching your videos when Diablo 2 re-work (re-skin) wasn't even in the horizon. You deserve way more views with the re-release of D2. Keep it up!
Mob with those flamer daemons, and teli right on top of him. Cast lower resist, and in a sec or 2, achieve the kill. If you put a fire rainbow facet in a humourous and a facet in the shako, Forgettabarre! I was Elite Godly back in the D2 Lod. I did all these builds, and had a blast! Made a ton of BOTD Iron Gols, cuz I could. Anyway, Its cool to see my builds being used still after 20 years!
Corpse explosion really is kinda crazy. The budget summoner + corpse explosion necro might FEEL slow, but look how fast you kill packs of monsters as soon as one goes down to the army. The entire pack of monsters drops almost instantly to corpse explosion, and you don't have to worry about resistances or immunities like a pre-Infinity sorceress does. Honestly, apples to apples, I think this budget necro clears Chaos Sanctuary nearly as fast as a budget sorceress does. If moat tricking Mephisto did not exist in the game, I would almost call this build as superior over the sorceress until she acquires an Infinity.
-he's right, I would only invest 1 point in revive... they die too fast and besides you got too many minions... they block each other. -using any trash polearm with insight is a good option... you just need the aura. And there are plenty of polearms with good auras for your merc. And the iron golem is unlikely to die plus he ALWAYS comes with you every time you join a game... you don't lose the insight iron golem if you leave a game. But you do lose it if you die. Which is very unlikely. -spirit sword or spirit shield are also good options depending on your luck. also bk rings, and any +3 sumo amulet... you want the highest skill in summoning, that's your priority. 2nd is enigma. 3rd is survivability/faster cast rate. -I would definitely put all offensive stuff on merc even no life leech stuff because he's got a lot of minions tanking for him. -maybe 1 point in life tap for your merc or in public games but... eh -also maybe 1 point in lower resist for public games... -late game maxed out necro agree on the 20 points in amplify damage... makes life a lot easier. It maybe... maybe 5, 10, not sure, but good idea -if you're weak, go to town and heal your minions before fighting mephisto/diablo/baal. You'll have no corpses to revive them if they die. -don't bother using teleport charges except maybe when you're trying to rush yourself solo and want to ocasionally jump some walls or such. But also when you switch to off-hand, 1-3 of your skeletons die because you lower your skills temporarily.
This is why I like the necro, it's more flexible then people think. Also bone necro has only a few immunity issues, so pretty much each area is doable.
On the budget side of doing a necy, Telly staff. Second cast your clay golem out in front, into the mob that is coming at you, he's cheap and grabs everyone's attention. Cast him before amp, amp doesn't hurt things I see too many necy's casting curses on things before anyone is there to damage them. They look like they are trying to cast orb... I love the Hone Sundan, G-Face, Duress for the 95% CB on the merc. Infinity would be the upgrade as I like to run with mages.
thank you very much for your awesome guide, i recently got diablo 2 resurrected on my switch couple weeks ago, regardless how old the original was it still gives me an idea of how to build my necromancer, im gonna sub to you so i can learn more from your useful guides
Summon necro is still my fav build :D I had one with infinity + bramble merc, beast, enigma, full inventory of skillers... it was so ridiculous. Even been trying poison nova/summon necro hybrids (you can get 20 points in RS and 14 in SM @ 99 with maxed poison nova + synergies and 1 points to lower resist and revive + summon resist), sort of combining the two builds. Biggest downside so far is having to choose between deaths web and beast BA... It kills super fast though
If you don't have Enigma, use the second best thing - Naj's Puzzler Staff on switch. It has the most teleport charges, it has fcr on it for quicker tele. It's very usable, just don't spam it.
I would put one point in skeleton mage. Just to use them as meat shields I like them because they stay close to you even after teleport. Able to block some damage nearby
Summon necro is what I play when I’m on a trip and staying somewhere with spotty or bad internet cause I play it on single player. I Barb/sorc/hammerdin online. But I can definitely play a summon necro on my laptop while watching movies on my tablet and feel super chill in a single-player environment. Gathering my skele army online just stresses me out.
I see a lot of people in the comments saying that they would make an Iron Golem from an “eth x” x being whatever runeword item they prefer. There’s nothing wrong with using an ethereal item to make an Iron Golem, and it will have a semi-transparent appearance if the item is ethereal. But the fact that it is ethereal has no other effect on the Iron Golem: The damage or defense bonus that applies to the item from being ethereal does not apply to the golem. The golem does pitiful damage with its attack, a little bonus wouldn’t help much anyway. Also, if you do sacrifice a very good item to make a golem, keep your eye on it. If it isn’t right next to you, Town Portal or Teleport to gather it up so it doesn’t despawn. If it is losing health fast, Town Portal or Teleport to pull it out of harm’s way. And D, I have to agree with some of the commenters here: Call to Arms is not “budget”. A staff with Teleport charges can be shopped at Level 24 and really doesn’t cost that much to recharge, even if you have a CtA (but no Enigma) such a staff is better for a skelemancer’s swap. You don’t really need the extra life, anyway. Otherwise, a very nice video, as usual.
I have an Iron Golem with Fanatacism aura and an Act 2 Might Merc with Concentration Aura. In my view, Insight isn't needed. Once you get your army up and running, mana isn't really an issue.
As for budget setup, if you really find annoying that you can't teleport just buy teleport wand/staff from act 2 vendor with teleport charges and swap weapons on demand
I got my necro at some decent gear now and will try this out tonight. Don't have enigma so will have to see how it works. The fast skeleton raise trick in a5 is awesome. Thanks!
Summoner with good resists and MB with homunculous you like never die, only thing to worry about are nasty soul and blood lord packs on high player settings
For the budget version, you really should use a teleport staff. Recharging isn't that expensive at all, especially in the endgame when you're drowning in money.

Tip for the people that are truly playing this with a budget (looking at you, budget build with HotA -.-). A townportal also works to group up your minions, just create one while waiting for Diablo to spawn, then quickly enter and leave town.
The hero we deserve
Another more cynical tip for people playing with a budget build. You should've made another character until you had the items to make a decent necromancer:P Sorry.

No Enigma? Remember to "whip" your army! Here's how: Make sure regular attack is your left click.
When running around ahead of your army, *press shift-left click, do a "basic attack" to stop moving.*
Instead of "surround you first, then find enemies", the bulk of your army will continue forward and "find enemies first, then surround you"
Pretty big brain tip that you wont find in any guide video.
Now I have to make a necro named "NaeNae" to try this with.
also i love tele amulet, i know i know people will start talking about tele staff but my ocd prevents me from doing that because i would lose some summons if i change to offhand. T-15 days!
where are you putting your skills points?
This is useful but before you have enigma you absolutely need to have a teleport staff or wand on your switch. These can be shopped from a vendor as early as like normal A5 and it only takes like 30 minutes.
Just to be clear for everyone, you are looking for a staff or wand with the suffix "of Teleport" in the name of the item.
Tele staff can be bought after act3 normal at least for me both times

to be honest this summoner guide is trash.

I used Beast on my necro for fanatiscism and my merc was using a Pride for concentration for the auras on my summons. That was also, very insane.
I was waiting to see this, he showed off the godly gear and I am thinking to myself.... where is Fanat and Concen
exactly what i was thinking
The D2 Necro is, and always has been my favorite class in any game like it.
Having an offhand staff with a charge based teleport is a nice budget option
By far the best thing to do for budget players who don't have Enigma yet. Yes, the charges are expensive. That's why you don't teleport all over the place like an Enigma person does. But you can still use it to tele-stomp bosses or escape from tight situations. It's a LOT better than no teleport at all.
@@chriswhinery925
Another trick is to put 1 point in bone wall.
Bone wall attracts monsters from far away for some reason so if you are in the open you know when to teleport and when not to teleport saving your charges.
Just start playing. Currently lvl 25
First time I heard of Enigma and teleport.

Isn't corpse explosion based on dead bodies' life? Isn't it scaling when you go p8?
Disagree, the rune word ‘pride’ would provide a much greater effect on your skeletons than infinity
@@GTurbo94 Necro should use Beast, Merc equipped with Infinity, Iron Golem out of Pride. Obviously stick with the Might Merc, stack all of the auras.
Infinity’s crushing blow and much higher dmg are great for boss killing and the conviction aura is going to increase corpse explosions dmg by a lot and let’s be honest here skeletons won’t clear maps corpse explosion will
@@mortalisathir5020 Agreed. Infinity + Treachery + Andariel's Visage with 15 IAS Jewel. Hands down the best mercenary set up for a lot of builds.
Infinity 11816 > 10232 Pride
Even with the massive increase in dps the low chance to hit has a huge impact. A pride golem is the way to go.
You should go into a little detail about specific revives that are good (like ones that have CB), and a little more detail on how Iron Golem works.
The Mercenary is called Emilio: That alone is win
I also obtained Emilio!! Hahaha
personnaly, I cast an iron golem with a beast in eth bersker axe, IAS, huge ED, crushing blow and open wounds AND it gives fanatism aura to all your summon and it stacks with might from mercenary too!!! it also never died in 5 years of playing ;)
***wihout enigma nor teleport charge staff, you can use TP to town and get back to focus your army to a desired point

Pride for concentration aura on Merc is another good option
Beast sucks, it only reduces their attack frames by 1 and they have a natural 15 delay between attacks as well
@@Applest2oApples it's more damage too. Even with no +skills it gives ~100%ed and 100% ar. Pretty sure that's better than a few extra skills.
Don't summons snapshot anyways? like you can summon with leoric +skills, then swap and get the best of both worlds?
Build notes:
Your largest damage dealer will still be corpse explosion (especially once paired with conviction aura/amplify damage curse) max this it will absolutely decimate everything on the screen. It does 70-120% of the monsters health as fire/physical damage, so points don't increase it's damage, only radius. This means the damage of the spell scales with the monsters health that you're using, so it scales extremely well even if your character is naked
don't max mages or revives only skele both summon masteries and corpse explosion, after that I'd recommend bone prison for increased bone wall absorption unless you run max block, if you're making a beast, pride, or insight iron golem put points into blood golem or fire golem to synergize for iron golem to increase health (blood) or damage (fire)
Trust me there will be plenty of sorcs and pallies, necro gear will be cheaper and with this build once you get enigma you power spike much more than other classes.
Jah Ith Ber :)
GLHF cya in d2r friends!
the most relaxing and time killing build in D2, hands down!

People are under the misconception that you need to pump skeletons with this build. Most of your damage is crushing blow on bosses and Corpse Explosion on everything else with your merc making corpses for you.
Spirit weapon / HoTO can be handy as well when you are still working your way up. Once you are done with them, you can give them to another character.
I dig the build. When you show gear give it a little more time for us who don't know all the gear from memory lol.

Conviction from infinity

Fanaticism from beast
works very well.
Pride is so easy to make its crazy. This is a wonderful setup to go by for a good while if you have the runes.
I like beast + pride merc + insight iron golem
@@nova442 That works fin too but infinity actually does help your skele damage by a lot, don't forget conviction also lowers enemy defense by 83% making you melee skele's hit a lot more often plus obviously the mages if you're using them.
Wait, wait, wait...arm of king Leeroyic? Your penalty is going back and playing Diablo 1. :)
I always put 1 point in amplify damage, 1 in attraction (because then the monsters attack themselves and not your skellies, also it is super helpful in beginning, when you don't have an army to keep them attacking the one or few guys cursed with attract so that you get quick bodies for skellies. Also when I take poison nova, I put 1 point into lower resist.)
budget id say something with tele charges is better for repositioning, also for bosses, you can reposition with a tp
@@joshuakim5240 well, when you're just playing casually / singleplayer, leaving to go get some revives is fine, but in the ridiculously fast-paced multiplayer you'll lag behind so much doing that
but even in singleplayer, it's a little weird and awkward to leave to do that, and like you mentioned, due to the time limit for revives, as well as them so easily despawning, this is really annoying to do lol.
like i said, the ice mage+clay golem+decrepify+merc combo is usually more than enough on their own to take out any boss, even on Hell Difficulty, but on Hell Difficulty going through normal non-boss related stuff can actually be a bit of a challenge for your skeletons if you dont have the best gear, and that's where Revives will help you way more imo. especially getting ranged attackers, as that will help you kill the first monster faster to start popping Corpse Explosions. melee revives dont help as much unless they're absurdly tanky, because there's only so much surface area in choke points to go around
”The budget build wont have this crazy inventory and enigma”
But it will have a shako and double soj.
Guess ”budget” isnt the word Im looking for
Lol Shako is not expensive.~ Just grind some Andy's and "tadaa".
My favourite !! Whenever D2R start Imma make a quick Blizz sorc, make my Enigma and switch to Summon necro!

Big fan of Summoner Necros - they were my first completed Hardcore characters (in both Classic and Expansion mode).
There are a couple of things they find very difficult to do, though - Maggot's Lair and Arcane Sanctuary. You will need lots of patience (and some luck) to get through these, especially on Hell. The confined spaces are a Skeleton Army's kryptonite.
Yes, especially if you don't have the ability to teleport if you get sandwiched between a bunch of enemies and your summons can't get to them to take them out lmao

Learned many new cool stuff within the last few weeks despise playing the game for almost 20 years
You never stop learning in Diablo ! The game is almost infinite and I have been playing forever as well lol
Thanks.
Might be what you're looking for: ua-cam.com/video/adBL6RaFPIg/v-deo.html
when building from scratch you use what you find.

Man. You got a subscriber. This channel will be my first source of content for D2R. Excited for tomorrow
Is there a reason you don't just use a teleport staff for the budget build?
Edit: saw you mentioned near the end. I still think it's more budget than a cta but I see your point about how it takes a lot of gold. If you use it tactically though, like for bosses only, it's a good budget choice.
Using runes to repair.
Also a budget cta? Lmao
i think he said he was using the Call to Arms as mostly just a quality-of-life thing to show off the rest of the build, it's not intentionally apart of the build itself.
Not hugely budget still. Still using arachnid mesh 2 soj and cta offhand but better I suppose
Dbrunski's definition of "budget" has always been pretty goofy. He's like Jeff Bezos trying to tell us about his idea of a "budget yacht" lol.
In general if you own end game gear for a particular char he is a badass
Wouldnt have to dream about the day I finally can make enigma :(
2:12 "Relies on enigma".... aaaaand its useless
I've been playing again for 3.5 years and have yet to find a Jah, Ist or Ohm rune.
@@johnwayneasgenghiskhan4699 you are aware you can just craft every single rune in the game right?
For your budget necro, get a staff with teleport charges. You don't NEED enigma, but it's nicer.

I find it a bit funny how much he knows about D2 but still can't pronounce Leoric :P

When I see a build video stated. Do anything
I knew it. My favorite

Fishymancer is my favorite build and this is exactly how I play it. Great video.
-maybe 1 point in life tap for your merc or in public games but... eh
-also maybe 1 point in lower resist for public games...
-late game maxed out necro agree on the 20 points in amplify damage... makes life a lot easier. It maybe... maybe 5, 10, not sure, but good idea
-if you're weak, go to town and heal your minions before fighting mephisto/diablo/baal.
Just to use them as meat shields
I like them because they stay close to you even after teleport. Able to block some damage nearby
That is why Iam going to start with a sorc, Enigma is a must-have for this build.
Necro was my weapon of choice in d2 and guild wars. Such good times.
The classic fishymancer. The only build that could run from normal to hell naked
the problem with D2 or D2R is that it takes a life to get the proper gear.
Thanks!
Can also go with a beast for fanaticism.
For a budget, you can also get I think Najs Staff that has tele charges.
Summoner with good resists and MB with homunculous you like never die, only thing to worry about are nasty soul and blood lord packs on high player settings
For the budget version, you really should use a teleport staff. Recharging isn't that expensive at all, especially in the endgame when you're drowning in money.
Obsession runword for your merc casts enchant on your summons, pretty dope.
Hi.. fantastic video. But how did you get that teleport and berserker skill?
