Could you guys please react to the movie The Stepfather? Its an horror thriller movie.
i did not think this through Maya🤣
Am i the only one who finds Fisk more terrifying when he's being nice and practically thoughtful towards Maya? Vincent D'onofrio is such a superb actor and born to play Kingpin.
That whole kitchen scene had me like on edge and could barely watch lol...just waiting for him to snap is so terrifying
I thought the same thing my friend! 🙏🏽💪
@@justinperlow9104real💀
He’s known her for 20 years, considers her his adoptive daughter, but couldn’t be bothered to learn ASL beyond a couple basic words? He’s such a hypocrite, especially when he’s beating the vendor. That was more so him unleashing his anger issues than actually trying to protect maya. That’s why I see everything he says and does for maya as manipulative. And I do think he truly loves her, or at least he believes he loves her. I think that makes him even more terrifying of a villain for maya
No, he's 100% at his scariest when he's being manipulative
The actress that plays maya actually spoke about how the staff of the show actually learned ASL to communicate with her and how it made her feel included and everything.
I was thinking while watching it that Vincent probably learnt asl to speak to her seeing as how they’re in so many scenes together
Poor Wilson Fisk.
He didn't even realize that Maya DID free herself when she put the hammer back down. She broke the vengeance cycle. She is truly free at last.
The actor playing Uncle Henry really IS great at giving an integrated performance. He sells every line so well. Facial expressions, tonal inflections, and the energy of his ASL!
He is from Twilight)
He killed it in The English with Emily Blunt.
Chaske Spencer is an amazing actor ❤
I’m actually happy that Kahhori from What If has nothing to do with Echo. Kahhori is the champion for the Mohawk while Maya is the champion of the Choctaw.
I'm glad the actor is playing a totally different person in "Echo". But, also glad she got to act on-screen.
Exactly! 🙏🏽💪
I'm guessing both clans found the pool
@@scotthewitt258what)
@@daurydavis3983that doesn't make much sense since in kahhori's world the tesseract fell on earth and created that dimension, we still don't know what is that "cave" that gives Choctaw warriors their powers
I love how we see that Maya wasn’t raised to be a criminal from the beginning. Her father and Fisk tried to give her a normal life and shelter her from this violence, but she was *naturally* drawn to it. She wanted this life. And now that she has reconnected with her roots she sees a better, more fulfilling life.
Also I would love a What If episode where we see what would happen if Maya actually ACCEPTED Wilson’s offer to become Queenpin.
The "Single-Use" interpreter thing is foreshadowed early on for those who use captions. When they tell Fisk what Maya is signing, they are identified in the captions as:
"ASL Interpreter 1"
"ASL Interpreter 2"
"ASL Interpreter 3"
Noticed that in episode 1 and said “uh oh” haha
@@Ne0Nights It actually hit me at the start of the dinner scene, when I realized she was "ASL Interpreter 3".
About thirty seconds ahead of the hallway reveal. I can be slow catching on.
I never noticed. I thought it was the same lady because in another review they mentioned she was an actual interpreter.
The ASL sequence to me feels like watching a fight choreography where the level of preciseness is so well captured especially between Maya and her uncle.
That eye contact was smart though
The guy who plays Maya's Uncle is really good! I have only ever seen him in the Twilight movies (he plays Sam the head of the Wolf pack)... he's much older now and really showing his acting chops!
I figured that was him, it was killing me lol
i really appreciate what Coy said about how art (specifically CBMs) are being judged before people even watch it. I’ve noticed this with other genres as well. It kind of eradicates anyone having original opinions which I think is detrimental to any art form. It’s truly frustrating especially when you genuinely love something and people judge YOU because of your opinion and vice versa. Can’t art just be art? as long as someone finds joy or connection from art then it was worth being made even if i despise it or disagree with them.
The acting from everyone in this show is amazing. Vincent rules as Kingpin and is absolutely threatening when he shows up. You can feel the emotion from Maya as well when she signs, her movements when she does it shows how she feels.
Fisk and echo holding hands was like thanos and gamora
I thought the same thing. Similar shot, but opposite sides.
I just love how the simple addition of the hammer subtly confirms the connection between the MCU and Netflixverse.
I was not expecting to hear Alison Krauss in a marvel show. That song in particular is so important to me personally, my sister and dad and I performed it a cappella as the very first song of the very first show I ever played to begin a ten year career in music. Really hit me hard hearing it in this episode
I also was not prepared and BAWLED like a baby. Alison gets me every time!
I didnt think this show would hit me so deep 💀
Chaske Spencer and Tantoo Cardinal absolutely captivated this show and especially this episode. Hope they get the recognition they deserve from it.
This episode was a great episode, the emotion between Chula and Maya is great. Also the character change in Chula after their meeting is done so well
I didn't think she acted all that great otherwise, she kinda had an awkward presence, but I think that scene was arguably the highlight of the series.
I really hope echo gets a season 2 and Maya gets a chance to get 8-10 episodes
Same
I really hope we stop getting these middling, pointless MCU shows. The MCU is so bad, so so so bad.
@@TahiriVeila13ABYgood thing this is one of the good shows then 😊
@@TahiriVeila13ABYgood thing you are in the minority with that opinion on this show.
Henry Lopez, Maya's uncle owns the skating rink. In the first episode Maya's dad says "Henry got me a job in New York"
This episode was definitely the best episode of the show! Kingpin was so great in this episode! 👍
I absolutely love this show so far. I didn't know anything about Echo. I love learning about new culture. The action great.
Her uncle who owns the skate rink is played by chaske Spencer and he’s amazing. I saw him recently in the Amazon show “The English” with Emily blunt and he’s sooooo good in it. That show is amazing and I haven’t seen hardly anyone talking about it.
I love the binge release strategy cause it makes it harder for the Twitter verse to penetrate the experience for the average viewer
This episode has me sobbing the entire time. The way they build on this parallels during all of the episodes culminating as something as simple as the dynamic in painful conversations:
- Maya with Fisk: In both of them he tries to manipulate her with his awful device, with fancy wine, pleading to her sense of guilt for trying to murder and abuser, trying to convince her that she's just like him that thry are both evil that SHE is the real monster and giving her something that symbolizes their relationship the hammer he used to kill his father. In all of these Maya is composed trying to control her emotions you can see how afraid she is to make the wrong move ans say the wrong thing.
- Maya and her grandma: This one if filled with pain, her grandma did abandon her deciding that she, a kid, was just like her dad. But contrary to Fisk who throws everything on Maya she does take responsability admiring her own emotions and how they dictated her actions and does all of this using sign language which she did take the time to learn. And Maya doesn't need to forgive her but contrary to Fisk she shows her emotions the entire time she's not afraid to speak her mind, to reprimand her and leave because she doesn't fear her grandma she doesn't think she's gonna try to kill her or those she loves she gets to convey her discomfort and anger. Ans this all leads to her grandma also making something to give her but instead of an empty object or a symbol of violence is a call to her story, her roots, her people and the things that connect them.
I always get surprised when I hear Vincent's real voice. Much higher than his kingpin voice.
This your favorite episode too?
Love this breakdown, when is your finale reaction coming go out??
Yes. And all 4 episode for me was good. Even Final Episode Is Just ok. But overall I Like it
3 and 4 was amazing
Scene in Chula's kitchen was arguably the best of the series.
The most unrealistic part of this episode was Kingpin putting a contact lens into someone else's eye so easily and in the dark
No, the most unrealistic part was the contact lens device itself, wouldn’t it be easier if the device to only transcribe what Kingpin says to text? I mean, Maya can perfectly read, Instead of doing an actual digital sign lenguage of it lmao
Lmao I knew Greg would love the scene work in this one like that Kitchen table scene with Chula was just peak acting highly emotional you could feel it it’s what he’s been asking for.
I keep getting amazed at how they found a little girl that looks so much like Maya, but then I have to remember "oh right, that's Alaqua Cox's little cousin playing her. That's how."
As soon as Memaw Chula started to unwrap the tailor dummy, I knew what she was making.
I was like "She's making Maya's superhero uniform!"
Seeing kingpin use mcu technology was cool af😂 also can someone please tell me why marvel had no confidence in this show? Its a certified banger😂
The use of down to the river to pray and ending it on “who shall wear the starry crown good lord” and it ending on kingpin turning around because we don’t know if Maya will take the throne is genius
Wilson Fisk just wants to control Maya Lopez as he doesn't want her to get too powerful. There is that paranoia in him because he wants to be the top dog.
I think it's more so a selfish need to be needed and wanted. It's still a sense of having control over her. Look at how jealous he is of Maya's family. He lost Vanessa, so all he had was Maya.
@@marcusmcgill4423
I know she was recasted, but, where is she in the timeline?
Is she in jail or witness protection away from Fisk?
Best Episode of the show. Great tension, development and emotion. Alaqua And Vincent shined here.
Kingpins father made him beat his bully after he beat him in Daredevil S1, Maya ran up and did it herself. It's a TRUE parallel
LOVE this series respect for Kingpin
That Shasta Cola is what made that scene great in the beginning. Natives on some reservations love those sodas and pepsi. Lol
A lot of the flashbacks your complaining about not being there with echo and kingpin were actually cut. You can see them in the trailers
The actress who played Maya’s grandmother (Chula) was also great in Three Pines with Alfred Molina. ✌️
Back in the 2008 sequence, it would have been cool if they'd had a Wesley cameo, or even had it obvious that it was him Fisk was calling on the phone for a new jacket.
The show was originally 6-episodes long, but one was removed due to pacing issues.😊
I see people still looking for endgame quality in a spotlight mini series about a c class character 🤦🏾♂️
Granted. We were spoiled and Endgame was the peak of MCU but I agree. Not every Marvel project needs to be at the same quality as Endgame. Not everything needs to be a spectacle and a huge battle.
And so far Echo to me was good. Episodes 1,3 and 4 were definitely my favorite.
5:24 - 5:27 "that should be invented if it hasn't been" ikr
The guy playing henry aka maya's uncle is chaske Spencer he played wolf pack leader sam in twilight
God damn I just finished 2 & 3 and here’s 4😂 keep em coming
Chaske Spencer (Uncle Henry) is so good! First saw him in "The English" with Emily Blunt on Prime Video (also amazing imho), and was so excited when he first showed up in this show!
interesting little fact, if you watch with the subtitles on, each ASL interpreter Fisk has is numbered, kinda hinting that he has them "dealt with" on a regular basis
Daredevil was a great show, but it seems like it receives a lot of grace from fans who are happy to gloss over the shittier parts. Like Elektra. She sucked in the Netflix show, that whole story arc sucked. Overall it’s one of the strongest marvel things ever, for sure, but it’s not perfect at all and for me, this show is pretty comparable so far. Just wish we had much more of this show. Fingers crossed for more seasons
Not only that but also behind the scenes there was a lot of drama especially in season 2 with the mistreatment of Asian actors in the series.
👍
This show is no where near Daredevil’s smh
@@thatmovieguy1319 thats not what he said, so why are you pretending he did ?
@@thatmovieguy1319 holy shit are you really going from channel to channel trying to hate on this show? that is so weird dude
VR Sign Language?!
That really needs to become a real thing!
I’ve never laughed harder at one of your videos than the moment Greg said “oh thank God, you brought it back!”
It’s a commitment to a higher form of journalism Greg, A FREAKING PROMISE TO HARRISON FORD BEING KEPT! Greg!! Less you forget, Greg.. and silence turns akward… Mission accomplished Coy, good job.
Uncle Henry is played by Chaske Spencer. I first recognised him as Sam, one of the werewolves from Twilight 😂
John out here singing Red Suit Apparatus❤
I loved the scene where kingpin went after the ice cream man just shows how much he cared for maya and the violence was great
22:57-23:17 I think we all know what song they were bopping to 🔥🔥🔥🤣🤣🤣
For me I really enjoyed this episode my favourite so far!
Daredevil, Kingpin and a kick-ass hero....What's not to love? And yeah, Greg, there's *no way* somebody's not working on that ALS AI right now!! THANKS for this!!!!
John was basically yelling about animal feed (Fisk's lack of sign language) the whole time and Greg and Koy, dismissing him 😂😂😂
I’ve seen some people in the Deaf community point out that making the contact/ear piece for sign language wouldn’t be good because it would likely be incredibly expensive and because it would give people another excuse to not learn the language which there’s already sign language deprivation for deaf people. Most deaf people with hearing parents/guardians don’t grow up learning sign and that type of technology would help enforce the idea that they “don’t need to learn”.
The positive aspects are that there was good character development and dynamic between kingpin and maya , daredevil cameo , action sequences were pretty good, no unnecessary jokes , had darker tone .
The negative side is that the story plot was shaky and major problem that they rushed certain parts and the finale couldn't land properly in certain areas
Overall better than secret invasion, she hulk, TLAT
I think Kingpin knows how to use sign language, but he uses interpreters and technology to trick people into thinking he does not know. He does this so he can see or hear what Maya and the others really thought of him. Madame Gao noticed this and told Fisk to speak to her in Chinese and Japanese.
I think he knows how to sign to some extent. You catch certain things as you get along. Off course, he would know how to sigh "I love you" and "family". Maya notes that he didn't bother to learn using signs fluently. The other characters are so good at signing, speaking and reacting at the same time. The scenes feel so interactive and emotional, the lack of sound does not seem like a fault.
As a member of the Navajo Nation, i can confirm that Shasta Cola is the universal soda for all reserversations lol..
I get Greg's concern about blending the street level with the mystical. The thing is, if the MCU follows Maya's comics plot at all, she won't remain street level forever. There's a lot of story to go before she levels up, and the blending will be important for that time, so Greg's concern isn't wasted, but they'll have to include hints and tastes of the future so that her power up doesn't feel like deus ex machina when it finally arrives, if it arrives.
ah yes, the daily dose of Greg "teasing" John
you could absolutely make a super hot style vr game that essentially is a movie like this where you play the action hero. I'd play a movie like that.
You guys are the best! Watching along with you keeps a smile on mt face
I loved Kingpin in this episode, I think they did amazing job with him and his character especially throughout this episode. I think they just perfectly delivered on everything that makes this character so special and interesting and Vincent D'Onofrio was really bringing everything to the table for his performance in this series and just killed it in this role, I’m so happy that they brought him back from the Daredevil series. I loved every one of his dialogue scenes with Maya, I just thought that the dynamic and history behind those two was so interesting and compelling and that the writing for all of their scenes together was fantastic. Also getting to see the scene where Kingpin beats that ice cream vendor nearly to death was amazing, this moment just felt so in character for him and I loved the way they made each of his punches feel so powerful and brutal. Overall I just think this show did an amazing job at writing and adapting his character and I can’t wait to see Kingpin’s next appearance, wherever or whenever it is.
And all the haters wept as people yet again enjoyed a “mediocre soulless excuse for what the MCU used to be”😂
Fr nothing makes them happy I've learned to just ignore them 😭😭
@@thecalamitysanta6927I try, some days are harder, but as god as my witness I will wade through the blood and sin so that we may see peace- Joshua Graham
@@cl4-tpgaming"It's not that deep" - Random Man In Water
All opinion of course, I think there's a definite case to label it as that
I’m wondering what Tyrone Magnus will complaining about this time 😂
2:07 I have never been more on board with a villain giving someone an ass whooping than this moment here. I’m an uncle to my best friends daughters and I would absolutely want to do the same thing if someone ever made them feel bad like that.
I hoped that Kazi would return in the echo because we don't know anything about him, about his history, how he got into the mafia and how he got the rank of lieutenant, and on the wiki, MCU is described as unknown because we don't know what happened to this character because it seems to me that they forgot about this character who had the potential to continue his story because I doubt he will return in Daredevil or in any series where Maya will appear because this character had meaning in Echo's life because they were close childhood friends, he was in the mafia with her, but he also had doubts about her command because, as he said in the last episode, it was supposed to be his life, not hers, that he couldn't operate in two worlds
You are right. They dropped one episode
When Fisk gave the sign language eye lens tech for her to wear so she can see the hand movements based on what Fisk says to her it was so good.
After watching this whole show, top marvel shows are Loki, echo, and moon knight
I don't get why they retconned Fisk knowing ASL in Hawkeye. The story would have hit harder if he actually bothered to learn, and it would have been a nice effect or he started using ASL during the dinner scene after he 'fired' the interpreter.
Man, Kingpin will really do anything to avoid learning sign language 😂
So Kingpin is just fine now huh... No limb? No slurred speech? Man just took a straight shot bullet to the head. I didn't know he was super human
Nanomachines son! They harden in response to physical trauma.
It's possible. People have been shot in the face before and just had scars
He took a bomb to the face and walked it off in Hawkeye. In the comics, he can fist fight Spider-Man. Kingpin is definitely a superhuman
I knew I thought her uncle was FOINE and then I remembered he's Sam in Twilight & everything checked out
Wouldn’t it be easier if the device to only transcribe what Kingpin says to text? Instead of doing a digital sign lenguage of it lmao
It took me until 41 minutes into this to realise y'all were wearing the same shirt
What are her powers? Lmao none of yall can tell me and that’s a big reason as to why im not liking the ending. It’s supposed to be more grounded idk why they decided to give her abilities that make her seem more magical and like she need to go train at kar ma taj. Is she iron fist mixed with Rae skywalker?
I literally just bought that shirt before echo JUST FOR KINGPIN
U know..between you three the middle one is was good at recreating fisk’s voice man..sorry don’t know your names 😂
simply one of the best shows Marvel has put out along side Loki and What If 2
Also I didn't recognize the iron man year at first when I watched it
Any SOA fans in here. Was that song that was playing when Maya walked up on Kingpin in the hotel room the same song from Season 2 of SOA when SAMCROW stormed the church looking for Ethan Zobelle, but they were framed and arrested?
Didnt Kingpin hire the Ronin to kill Echos father? or something along those lines it seems ignored in this show. can someone explain or is it not
They showed Maya's costume when the show was announced and she was sitting behind a truck
Sad kingpin is a sight for sore eyes
Great reaction. Love the shirts!
Obviously it would still be light-hearted with a side of jokes, if we're talking Spider-Man here. But if Spidey and Kingpin go head to head in the near future, if they make it a grounded, grittier battle between the two, then after being absolutely battered by Fisk, it would be awesome if Spidey later uses the symbiote against Fisk and beats him senseless in retaliation. Since after No Way Home, a bit of the symbiote from Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock is still out there in the MCU's prime timeline, left behind, looking for a host.
often, penultimate eps are my fave and this is no different!
Like with Imani and Ms marvel, the casting in this show, fantastic, grounded.
I do like Reel Rejects, but sometimes I feel like they are constantly actively looking for stuff to critic on in the exact moments their watching the show instead of just WATCHING it and then discussing it later.
21:19 I don't know, but maybe the Reel Rejects misted their calling. Instead of being reactors, they should have been directors. The point out when episodes are too short, when actors are off their game, when scenes aren't lit well, or if a better angle would have been better suited for this or that scene. I think we're all missing out on some really good content =/
I wrapped up the whole show, and while I think it does have a lot of flaws, especially with its pacing and editing, I really did end up enjoying my time with it and especially a lot more and then a lot of other stuff Marvel has put out. I think they handled the legacy characters very well in this for the little screen time they had, and although it was short, I thought it was really well done and crafted with a lot of heart and passion. Comparing this to Thor 4 or Ant-Man 3 is like night and day because those movies that like corporate products well this one while very flawed felt like it was crafted with love and passion from day one especially everything with the Choctaw nation was awesome!
7.5/10!
So cute your all wearing the same shirt. Adorable ❤
They survived the Snap 🫰
People say the MCU is dead after Endgame but then say "except for that, that, this and this." Sooo, it's not dead? Maybe there were just a few things in a row you didn't like?
Ppl’s prejudged opinions on “Echo” are why any level-headed individual might hesitate to over-criticize a Quantumania or The Marvels. The valid criticism for the last two gets COMPLETELY conflated with the vast sea of invalid biases and critiques.
i did not think this through Maya 🤣🤣
It's interesting that this one episode felt more character-driven than the rest even though all the episodes, except ep 3, were directed by one of the executive producers. So, you'd think the directing would be consistent other than ep 3.
