i wonder how good this is for video. i read in their documentation that it does video but have yet to find a review illustrating that.

I have not tried it with video - besides these and a few other client jobs - I mostly do photography

How can you mount it so that hot shoe on camera can be used for flash?

My guess would be to not mount it on the hot shoe. Use and L-bracket or something.

It does not need to be mounted on the hotshoe - or you can get a double adaptor
