I'm not a big fan of funding pre production devices but this does have a lot to offer. I like how it offers focus peeking to devices that don't natively offer it, and also the touch to focus, and focus stacking VERY impressive!

Thats a lovely tool. I wanna know when you plug the remote, does it turn off the backscreen of your camera. or you will be seeing dual. For example on Canons with articulated screen can I close the screen and use only the one i have connected to the mobile device.
This is pretty good, they shouldnt charge 200 for this in the long run but love my Camranger. It's more expensive but if this goes to the 200 price point idk if Id buy it. If it was 100 bucks, this would kill it. Is the latency that slow because of just the screen recording or is it that in live time?

Just as an aside. It's called a cold shoe mount when you're just using it for physical support and there's no electrical contacts. ;)

What an excellent review Toby. I jumped and purchased this device as soon as I could. I use a Flashpoint Xplor 600 and with this device it would be helpful if you can find a multi hotshoe bracket in order to use the Case Air and the wireless controller for the Xplor 600 and the Flashpoint Strobe I use. But just to show clients you images on a larger I think is worth so much in presention value. Love your channel.

That's exactly what I'm wondering about, can I use the FP trigger on the hot shoe and this device hanging off the camera somewhere while handheld??? How do you like it over the last year?

Excellent review. There is little documentation available otherwise. If possible, it would be great to show how you can use the Case Air to shoot directly into Lightroom.

Can I use this device as automatic GPS tracker?
In other words, will this device ad GPS data for all pictures or only for those that I took via its app?
Nice but it would be better if it could cater to event photographers like the Toshiba air it allows you to access the printer on you tablet with out having to download the image from your camera your divice would be perfect if it had that feature, maybe you can inclued it in a software update, YES I see myself getting one in the near future.... but please update your software with a print and some type of water marking/image graphic overlaying feature for us event photographers thank you...
Nice review and unit. My only complaint is that the focus stacking is way to little only 9 shots. I feel that if this was increased to at least 100 shots in small user defined increments that this product would be a more compleate package for me.

My name is Patrick, this is my second post I also shoot with the A 7RII as we all know that has Wi-Fi built into it I have been informed that you're capable with a certain app to shoot to an iPad as well that would be interesting you know how to accomplish that as well. If I can remove the cord for tethering that would be fantastic and I think other people would be very interested in seeing that as well.
Perfect. Now I can place my camera on a tripod. Use the case air gaffer tapped to tripod because there are no connections to the hotshoe. Use my transceiver for my orlit strobes. Have a Sekonic light meter take a reading and adjust the settings on my iPad. And on the transceiver. Take a picture with the color checker passport for color accuracy. Take photos while adjusting the lights and it’s automatically saving in the files app on the iPad. Then opening them up on my Mac for later which has already been synced over iCloud. BOOM

Thanks for the in-depth review. Quick questions - was the app snappy to use or frustrating in it's slowness? I get infuriated by slow programs no matter how good the functionality is! also, did you get any crashes etc? lots of reviews of the alternative dslrdashboard options mention crashes which I want to avoid.
Lastly, with the GPS tagging, say I store the RAWS on my camera and send the jpgs to my tablet for review, do the RAWS on the camera card get the GPS tag or just the JPGs sent to the tablet?

Matthew, can it do wireless large live-view screen on Windows 10 using Canon/Hasselblad/Leica/Olympus/Phase One/Nikon/Sony/Samsung cameras the ATG's?
Unfortunately, it doesn't amateur cameras like the popular Sony A7 and Olympus 4/3 like ATG can.

Excellent review! I'd love to use it just for the geotagging, assuming that's done in the metadata of each image. I'm curious if that'd work without interacting with the device over WiFi once enabled.
As a Dog sport photographer will this camera upload the photos to a web site as I shoot? and can I still control camera myself while connected to this device. i.e. shoot normally and upload at the same time.
What is the difference between the Remote Air Smart and Remote Plus? It looks like they do the same thing but Plus is cheaper. I am curious if this is their second (or third) gen remote.
I do a lot of video and thought I could add this to the camera while on my Gimbal, and have my tablet connected to the gimbal itself as a viewing and controlling screen. It would mean I wouldnt have to touch the camera at all. It would be a pretty cheap field monitor.
How does that compare to the CamFi?

In your opinion, would the speed of the life view allow for filming sports?
maybe a stoopid Q, but doesn't this prevent off camera flash since i mount my PW on top (when i don't use Nikon CLS) and would therefore have to jury rig another way to mount the dongle ?
Raw and Case Air dont work. The raw file will stay on your memory card . So, chose Raw/Jpg and send the JPG to your devise.
When they have finished developing their product will it be available on Amazon in October?
Is there a setting where you can not show camera controls? For instance, when your client is holding onto your iPad?
It will be nice if the version number of the software is mentioned. The current Version 2.4.5 is way different to this.
Have you used it enough to notice how much it drains battery power from your phone/tablet? Also, since it is linked to the camera, I am assuming it runs off of the camera's battery power; how do the batteries handle on the camera with this running? It really looks like such a cool little gadget!

I have a food shoot coming and i want to let them see the client to see the pictures on my IPAD Pro 12.9 as i am composing the shots. Just trying to to decide tethered cable in LR Mobile in IPAD Pro, or this wireless solution?? I think its more professional having no cabling on show outside of the studio etc which is why i was going to buy this etc.D800.

My name is Patrick I subscribed to your you tube not too long ago I find that you are very detailed in what you discuss on this channel. I am an individual that shoots with Canon 5D Mark III and I'm tired of the cord I would like to be able to transfer files over to my iPad. You touched on the subject just a little bit in this viewing if I'm correct. I do not even care if they go into light room I just would like to be able to see my pictures on the newest iPad so I can visualize what I am doing in a larger screen. Can you possibly make a tutorial on how to transfer files from your camera to an iPad so you're only seeing the picture that was just captured.
For simply using wifi capability how does this compare with using a wifi sd card?

Has more much more features, but this compared to "DSLR Controller" that can also work via USB, which one to consider first?

Excellent review. What you did not emphasize is that the software User Interface is a million times better than most of the apps that are supplied by camera manufacturers, in addition to having more useful features.
Is there a chance that the same hardware, with appropriate software could in the future work with Panasonic GH3 / GH4 / and possibly GH5 once it is out ?
That is kind of what I was hinting at in the opening , I do agree, basic and poor design often. I really don't know about the GH series control - would be best to ask the designers - that said I don't mind the GH4 remote app - its pretty decent for control but of course doesn't offer all the neat features that the Case Remote offers.

Can you control flash output with this device? Can you do bracketing by adjusting flash output in 1/3 stops? Will it control multiple flashes?
No - no control of flash either through camera or directly.
So my Case Air Remote came today.
I can connect it to my phone via the WiFi network it creates, but can NOT convince it to see my Canon 70D connected to it - the app continually says "No Camera".
The Firmware on the Remote Air got updated, but that didn't change anything either.
What am I missing?!

I almost bought an intervalometer for $35. Unless I missed something, with this device I would get all the features of an intervalometer plus all the other features you showed as well. Does that sound correct? Also, once you set it up to do any of the timer based things, will it function on its own or does your android/apple device have to stay connected via wifi?
I'm really interested about this as well. Can the wifi connection "time out" and ruin stuff, or does a command get executed once it's entered and then it doesn't matter what happens to the wifi connection?

I like this video. I am thinking of getting this to take pictures of Birds at my Bird Feeder. As they are not allowing me to come near them. Keep the camera near the bird feeder and control this camera remotely.

I have a Ronin MX and Canon 6D, as you probably know there is no follow focus on the 6D and it becomes annoying having to reach around the gimbal to pull focus.
Does anybody know if you can use the Case Remote to focus during filming without having to stop film then focus?

It does - but you can also purchase an OTG cable to use with older cameras and the USB connectors that were provided with the camera.
I want to use it to publish an image real fast during a ball game. My android phone does not work well I think I need a good tablet, or lite PC.

Are you using DSLR controller via the little mifi bridge device? If so - not really other than I found that setup to be very buggy and this connects reliably. If you are using DSLR controller via wires- well the advantage here is wireless. Hope that helps.

Can this Case Remote Air do some similar jobs like the Triggertrap dongle? In another word, do you recommend pay a bit extra to pick up this Case remote Air instead of the Triggertrap
If you want loads of timelapse options and various ways to trigger your camera the Triggertrap is the best option. If you want wifi remote control and touchscreen viewing with simple timelapse option - CaseRemote. Hope that helps.

I don't see the EOS M on the list but that camera has the same Canon OS so it is likely just not on the list. Visit their IndieGOGO page and ask- I am sure they can let you know.

All these red focus lines come from a feature of this device?
Youbatfalcontube that's called focus peaking. it just puts dots on the screen so you can see what parts of the image are in focus. it doesn't effect the final picture

Yes, in theory a good device if you ever receive it I have been waiting for 2.5 months after the dispatch. Been getting the run around "Wait some more" They charged US$15.00 freight for a 0.25 kg consignment , sufficient to cover air freight. They will not advise me who the carrier is. BEWARE !!!!

can I find software to tether my 70d to my laptop and still get features to match case remote for focusing. I do interior photo work for kitchens and baths and need to use remote for mounting camera close to ceiling facing down in bathrooms. could you recommend set up for me. I use canon to Samsung series 7. I have a 15 ft tether cable. I will invest in case if I need to but I already own laptop.thank you,Gary Woods

Try Qdslrdashboard with a Tplink mr3040 router cheaper than a case ! Also you get the firmware fore free the Tplink mr3040 is the same they use for the camranger..........

+PhotoRec TV no it is not but 15 mins you have a far better wifi unit and cheaper and with Qdslrdashboard a far better app ....a for instance is I have a canon 100d with the Tplink mr3040 router with the custom firmware for Qdslrdashboard on it also magic lantern on the ad card and I am able to save the video straight to my iPad and then upload to UA-cam within mins of making it and the best part the video is a FPS overide within magic lantern which uses movie mode so it ends up looking like a Timelapse straight out no editing ....Qdslrdashboard has so many functions ...why not get a Tplink mr3040 download the firmware and firmware update and give it a try in front of your huge fan followers !
