    Great review and generally agree with your findings!
    I have one complaint you didn't mention - the battery cover. It's just tedious to take on or off. It's very easy for it to not really snap in place, making you worry it will fall off and get lost. Otherwise, great product within the constraints of this type of product, meaning it takes a bit to boot / reboot (it is a wireless router after all!).

    Hi Scott. I am planning to use this CamFi Pro Plus as a camera controller and transmitter for my Construction Time Lapse work. My questions are: (1) does the Camfi software allow programming Intervals (shoot only certain day and or certain time). (2) does it gets pretty hot when you use it for a long period of time? Thanks.

    Love the high quality of your videos. Could you review some wireless follow focus and video transmission products, there's hardly any quality reviews of that kind of gear out there..

    Thank you for the review! It is really helpful. I can't find any information about the possibility of making zoom in the Live View mode and view the electronic level. Do you know anything about that? I often work with the camera mounted on a high tripod or too close to the wall to see the back display, so this features on iPad would be great for me :-)

    Awesome introduction to Cam-Fi Scott! I wish I knew about this product months ago; I've gone down the rabbit hole that is Shuttersnitch for wireless tethering. I'd love to see how the Cam-Fi performs within Shuttersnitch, or if it's even possible, but I see no reason why it shouldn't be. So far I've had success with getting the 5DIV to connect on its own WiFi without any extra hardware, but obviously, I think something like Cam-Fi could increase speeds + distance without shelling out $1,000 for a WFT-E7A.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 років тому

      Thanks so much for watching! Yeah it's one of those things that I wish I had earlier as well. Mostly I love the ability to integrate with Capture One because I tend to want to show clients (roughly) processed photos and C1 can just apply all my default adjustments as the images come in. Makes it easier to see if I need to make adjustments to lighting etc very specifically in relation to the adjustments I plan to make in post as well.
      Shuttersnitch does seem pretty interesting as well, and probably better than Canon's software haha. I'll have to check it out. I honestly think the CamFi could have got more distance in a different location though... somehow every time I test out wireless stuff near my house (which is wide open with no apparent interference) it underperforms compared to the specs. Still, can't complain about 20+ meters of legitimate wireless tethering though :)

    I wanted to ask... does this device "Automatically Downloads" the Pictures and RAW Files to your "Connected Device"
    I have the CamFi CF... and Automatic Download works ONLY WITH SONY
    I have a Canon R5c.. I LOVE THIS DEVICE..and the incredible speed and ability to control my camera remotely.
    I JUST NEED MY FILES AUTOMATIC DOWNLOADED

    Cool vid.... I like the concept. I have been screaming for a wireless solution since forever. I almost pull the trigger earlier this year when I first learned about CamFi, but then I saw that there was a pro version so I wanted to wait for some reviews before I purchased it. Although I like your review, I am still going to wait. There is always that one photographer who is outright hard to please and when that one give his criticism I will see if those are features that are must have's or I can live without.
    I would say right now, maybe it is a technology thing, but I view this thing as massive! So my concern is weight for starters and then battery life for only 3 hours. In theory, that should be enough time. Much longer story... For now, I still like the concept, but I wish the CamFi was alot smaller as I will definitely need the shoe available for my light trigger.
    For now, the more that I think about it.... I am going to hold off until late summer maybe even into December to see if a smaller version is released. In either case, thanks for sharing your experience and happy shooting.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 років тому

      Yeah man... it really did surprise me actually how big it was haha. If they made it smaller I'd also pick that up in a heartbeat. Weight isn't so much of an issue though luckily, it's very lightweight compared to the size. Needing the L-Bracket to keep your hot shoe open can be a hassle too, but for me I use Arca Swiss ballheads already so it isn't too much of a hassle at all actually. For some though something with a smaller profile or that perhaps plugs directly into the USB port and doesn't need to be mounted anywhere would be great.
      Anyway, thank you for watching! :)

      You're right, this will work only with photos unfortunately, and for filming you'd want to look into a video transmitter system like the Mars series from Hollyland.

    Thanks for the review. I want to use this to bypass the horrible Nikon Snapbridge system. However, I don't need to transfer images to the ipad. I simply want to control the camera using the app and then have the images record ONLY to the SD card. Is this possible?

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 років тому

      Thanks for watching! And yes! Viewing the images as they come in is just one of the options, but you don't have to use it. You can just keep the app on the home screen and control it via the app, and the images should still save to the SD card as usual :)

    How does CamFi Pro Plus compare to Tether Tools Air Direct? They look the same on the outside ...

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  4 роки тому

      I haven't tried the Tether Tools option but I have used other products from them and they're always good quality so I'd trust that it should work well. There's probably not a huge difference between the two but I would be curious to see which keeps a stronger/faster connection when pushing the limits.

    Hi Scott, Im shooting on nikon d810 and as I see when you at auto view mode on ipad, you can also use your camera live view, but I dont understand how I can do same thing with d810, when i connected it to camfi live view is turning off, maybe problem is in camera settings? Im shooting interiors and its hard to focusing with camfi app live view. I tried to do this with z6 camera and it works ok, and I thought the problem is d810 dslr camera(not mirrorless) , but you also use dslr and it work good on 5dm4

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  4 роки тому +1

      Hi! My best guess without looking at the camera is that it's just a limitation of how the d810 works... I'm not positive, but that would be my guess. Possibly one of the reasons Canon DSLRs were more popular for video use than Nikon.

    I have tested the CamFi Pro Plus. Found it very disappointing! Had to send it back. Very unstable connection with android. Very unreliable, also with iPad. Very slow transfer times, up to 30 seconds for a .jpg. Very annoying to work with all in all. I'm going to try Case Air in stead.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  5 років тому

      Hey, really sorry to hear that and surprised that was your experience with it. Did you talk to the company at all to see if there was anything wrong with your unit in particular? Also, let me know how the Case Air works out for you if you do get it. I've been curious about that as well.

      I have tried the Case Air and cam ranger before getting the Cam-fi pro (the model before this one) and got speeds many times faster than the older solutions. Very quick. I wonder if you where sending raws with the jpegs by accident, or you may have a faulty one?
