    I've been a CamRanger owner for years. It wasn't a perfect product but our best option. The CR2 is much more improved and I believe close to perfect now. I use the CR to send images Wireless to my iPads which my team is holding on a fashion shoot.

    I've used the original Camranger since the day it came out and it became a must have for all studio sessions.. the clients loved seeing the shots larger than a camera's LCD and I could also walk over the iPad to them so they didn't have to come to the camera. I have the new one as well and it's awesome. One thing I think Camranger needs to do badly, is make their own support videos showing set-ups, features, how-to's etc. They are seriously lacking in that department, relying on users to explain set-up, any gotchya's or issues. They'd sell a lot more if they had videos showcasing it's features and making it easy for the user to understand exactly how to use it. Thanks for this review.. I hope they sell a ton.

    I met the founders of CamRanger a few times four years ago and picked up the original CamRanger. I had the usual issues and I got amazing support from them. I've been waiting for this model to be brought through production. Thank you for your review as I use mine for all facets of my photography. I've shot basketball games with the client in the stands looking at the shots on their phone live. I use it in the studio sometimes and I use it for night photography a lot. I love the features that it seems they've expanded on and along with the extended range and much faster transfer it looks like a no brainer. I'm ordering asap.

    I am a original user of the camranger and still use it with great success today. The camranger 2 is promising. My only drawback with it is if you have it on top of camera, than where does your wireless microphone go? I have to buy a attachment that I can seat 2-3 items on top of the camera. The camera gets heavy at some point. But not all things are perfect right.

      You *can* put it in your pocket if you buy a longer cable (that goes between your camera and the CamRanger). The one that comes with it is very short, meant to go on your camera hot-shoe (which wasn't practical for me because I have a flash controller sitting on my hotshoe). They do offer some additional mounting options, but I didn't buy it because their Windows 10 version of software is still in Beta and not full-function, and there is no documentation specific for it yet. :(

    My testing CamRanger 2 on the Sony A7RIV has been very good. I love it. I had some trouble setting it up. These are the steps I use now.
    I hear that there are some issues with changing the shutter speed on the A7RIII. No issues with the A7RIV.
    If you are using the Sony apps, this is so much better. I do recommend only sending JPGs (not RAW files) to the iPad.
    The Sony tethering app is junk (Imaging Edge that was named Play Memories). This is a lightweight alternative to using the laptop, cable and Capture One.
    Here are the settings that work for me (saving RAW and JPG to the camera and only sending JPG to the iPad):
    1. Set "File Format" to RAW & JPG" That is on the first Sony Menu.
    2. Under the Globe menu, there is an item called "PC Remote Function". Under it, there is "PC Remote" menu item. Turn that on.
    3. In that same menu area look for "Still Img Save Dest". It should be set to PC+Camera.
    4. In the same menu area, set the menu "RAW+Jpg Save Img" to the value JPG Only. RAW really slows things down. But you can try it.
    5. Be aware that a good user manual is part of the app on the iPad.

    I have the original Camranger that I use mainly for image transfer to iPad when shooting headshots, from which clients make selections. Camranger works fine, but not fine enough to stop me wanting to buy the Camranger 2, which seems to be a massive improvement on the original.
    However, I have another challenge: I'm now shooting interior stills that ideally require me to wander around in my camera's field of view to make small adjustments, and I'd rather not have to keep heading back to the viewfinder to check up on what I've done. I've tried using my iPad Air2 with the Camranger to check details - zoomed in and out - but the liveview image quality on the iPad is appalling! It's not just the liveview that needs to be HD, but I would also like to use the touch screen operability for Camranger. Any thoughts on a suitable monitor that can be paired with my camera/Camranger setup, which will also work untethered?

    • @danidiamond
      @danidiamond  4 роки тому

    Dani - I use the original CR for the exact same reasons that you are doing - client review. RAW to camera card and low res JPEGs to CR. Do you know if the star ratings made from CR 2 app are saved into the meta of the files? Do the star ratings show in Bridge or LR? It wasn't possible on the original CR, but this feature would allow me to sync client's ratings made on set with the RAW files when I download after the shoot. Thanks for any info.

    • @danidiamond
      @danidiamond  4 роки тому

      I don't think it will do it, I'll try on Sunday on my shoot. I wish this was possible too but I think this would require the CR to write to the Metadata of the file on the cameras memory which it can not do. I will ask Dave about this.
