Thank you 1,000 times! I have been beating Google to death for a couple of days just to find out what the "white bars and pluses" are for on DSLR controller. Now I can do my first time-lapse shots.
Btw, I'm happy to pay a fair bit for a good quality app, compared to normal software pricing they are generally a bargain unless they are crap but that's no different from standard software. 🐟
Ok, I bought and it works, time between seeing the vid and have my WI Fi controller working did not exceed 10 minutes including the purchase. OMG. I just can't.
When in live focus, if the focus box is green then the buttons go black, just tap the live focus box again and it will go white and your buttons are available again with out having to go to your options.
It works just fine on my HTC One M8. Downloaded it today and it worked first time. Once I managed to persuade the phone not to keep switchiong back to my router's wifi that is!

Using this app with my 70D for Astrophotography. In this mode I would like to take multiple shots that are longer than the 30 second limit of non bulb modes. I'm having trouble figuring out how to get the DSLR controller app to do this. If I do the timed bulb shot I only get one picture so I have to manually select this option for each picture I want to take. The time lapse mode does not seem to be working. At least not in bulb mode. I experienced DSLR Controller hangs when I try this in bulb mode. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What is the most battery saving way to connect? The camera access point mode or the infrastructure mode. I guess the last one stands for the existing wifi, and that it should be more battery saving. Right?
This app will control video if you have it tethered, correct? If that is the case could you control video wirelessly if you used two devices similar to how you would do wifi control with a non-wifi camera? I hope that question makes sense... Thank you for all your great videos!
I'm curious to know more about the dual pixel auto focusing feature on the Canon 70d with the DSLR controller app. Is there a way to pull/select focus on whatever device you have connected to the 70d during video recording? I know you went through the dragging of the box, however with the tracking feature enabled during video recording will the app allow you to tap the screen for focus?
Using this with an 80d and a Rokinon manual lens. The app works great with a regular lens but the Rokinon is completely manual and has no chips in it that communicate with the camera. Using my Samsung 10 inch tablet lets me have a larger screen to focus on BUT I take a photo and it works great but since there isn't any communication between camera and lens, the app thinks it still taking a picture and keeps counting the exposure time. I have to shut down the app to get it to stop. Is there any way to cancel a photo in the app so that I can get it to stop counting without having to shut down the app?

What a fabulous app! Thanks for making me aware of it. It works just great with my new 70D running on my new HTC One M8. Awesome indeed. The phone has a propensity to switch back to my router wifi unless I am quick enough to start the controller app once connected. That may just be me being incompetent :) Only problem so far is that I would like to change the app settings (the preferences) while offline from the camera. You cannot do that. Starting the app causes it to search for a camera and when it cannot find one, it tells me so in a message and after clicking OK it exits the app. Minor point.

While shooting via Wifi / DSLR Controller, would it be possible to add the GPS info into the metadata instantaneously (while shooting itself & no hassles)? I think it is NOT possible to do so in Canon's latest app "Camera Connect", contrary to what it claims thru Google Play Store.
CameraRec Toby Video will work wirelessly in EOS Utility mode, but the camera does not provide the hotspot in that case (if it even provides Wi-Fi, but if so, most Android devices can be tweaked into playing the hotspot). If you use the TP-Link TL-MR3040 to make the camera wireless, video will also work. It really only doesn't work in 'smartphone' mode.
Hi I have just got a Canon 80D, Can get the access point set up and DSLT Controller to find it but the connection keeps coming up with an error as soon as I try and take photos? Any help. I did get it to work once or twice then the communication error appears again

In the video are you completely wireless between the phone and the camera? With the App v1.06 on a new Xiaomi MIUI 12 phone I'm having a hard time connecting (either by WLAN or USB the connection often breaks up or fails to connect) and shooting is also difficult: first the live view is shown in the App only when switching to Video on the 70D but then the mode is P instead of Av and a Video button (not working) and Picture taking button is shown. Often after taking 1-2 pictures the App freezes. So sad as I would like to work with this App (over WLAN) but need stability in connection, taking multiple pictures and focus control as well as review and copying to the smartphone.
As this app doesn't work with my Nikon, I have been using DSLR Dashboard for some time. Once you have figured out the UI it is awesome. It even has a LR Timelapse plugin build in.
MeisterYodarkus I downloaded DLSR Dashboard to use with my Android phone, Nikon D5200 and WU-1a. It worked perfectly, once I uninstalled the Nikon WMU wireless app. Awesome features! Poor documentation (can be purchased separately but not up to date.)
I have tried to use DSLR dashboard, it is not bad for a free app, but it is mostly geared towards Nikon. You can use this for timelapse, as I do, for Canons and it works great. I have found a few ways, that may or may not be bugs, to take it out of live view, watch the images and monitor the built in exposure meter so I can change the aperture and/or shutter speed in realtime with the dials on the camera without stopping the app.

be careful of what camera and tablet you own. Go to the website and check to see if your equipment is compatible according to there listings. There is a free download version to test you phone or tablet.

Works great on the Nexus. I use it often to check composition and settings before starting a video. (This is wired where you can use the app to start and stop video)
hello, please please PLEASE im hoping you can help me with this. i am using a on-the-go usb cable to connect my galaxy s5 to my canon 6d to use the app but when i open the app is says it cant find a compatible camera on either wifi or usb. i have the cable plugged into what i think is the correct slot on my 6d (the only one that seems to fit, the digital- a/v input) and when i plug it into my phone it doesn't even recognize that its plugged in. i used this same setup when i had my 60d and never had any issues, can you or someone please help me resolve this?
Brian Michael What type of photography are you doing? 6D s actually a little bit of a better sensor and has that nice Wifi. (I think it is nice) 5D Mark III offers better focusing system.
PhotoRec Toby The 6D def has a better sensor for low light & wifi is definitely cool to be able to remote from my android. I am looking for a workhorse of a camera that is good at most everything, whereas another camera may be better at one thing, I need something that scores well everywhere. I also do filmmaking, which is why the 5Diii is a strong contender. I am upgrading from the Canon 60D. Whichever cam I buy it will be with the 24-105 f4, just so I have something that covers a decent focal range. I have a 50 1.4 and a 85 1.8 that I will use for portraiture. I plan to buy the new Tamron 15-30 2.8 vc for wides, Tamron 70-200 2.8vc and then will sell the 24-105 & buy the Tamron 24-70 2.8vc.
Might be a silly question, but is it possible to sort images by rating in either the DSLR Controller or DSLR Gallery app? When traveling, I regularly scroll through my gallery (on camera) and select some pictures to send home straight out of camera. Problem is that I have no way of identifying which pictures were shortlisted in the DSLR Controller app. And scrolling through pictures in-App is rather slow. So far I have been using a ridiculous method on my 5D3 - I rate the JPEG pictures on my SD card, insert a fresh CF card and use the "copy images" function coupled with the "scroll [**]" option to copy the shortlisted pictures to the CF Card, then I remove the SD card and connect to DSLR connect. Only the short listed pics are in the CF card, so I then download all images. Tedious and ridiculous (but works)! Any help in speeding up the process is much appreciated!
Hi Toby, I can get the app to work with no problems until i mount my cyber commander as a transmitter to the hotshoe of my 6d. I can use the app to release the shutter but the transmitter isn't being passed a signal to trigger my lights. The same things happens when i push the physical shutter release button. Once I turn the wifi off the camera and transmitter function properly. Is this a limitation of the camera and the way the wifi works? I realize this is more of a question for the guys at canon but i've yet to get a reply and you seem to be pretty knowledgable on the topic of wifi and it's quirks. Thanks Justin
I've recently installed DSLR Controller (v 1.06) on my Android phone and I'm trying to set it up to work with Canon 70D. I've connected to the camera's access point and, pretty much the same way as you've shown in the video, and I can control it with Canon Camera Connect app. However, as I open DSLR Controller, it fails to detect the camera. I'm wondering if it's something I'm doing wrong or if the newer version has bugs preventing it from working with the camera. Do you happen to still to use it with the 70D?
While you're running a TL with this app do you have to leave the app open and running or can you close it and leave it running in the background and have the TL still running? I like the idea of Trigger Trap and this app just not a fan of having the app open rendering the phone useless for other time passing activities, if that is in fact the case.

Does anyone know if it is possible to shoot tethered to an IPhone with the 6D and EOS app if there is no WIFI present? For example, in the woods or anywhere where there’s no WiFi signal?
I finally broke down and bought a Samsung Galaxy 7" Tab4 tablet . . . Unfortunately DSLR Controller app running on this tablet will not work with wirelessly with Canon 70D or 6D. There is no information regarding the Tab4 on the DSLR Controller site. I have requested a refund . . . BTW . . . Google Play told me that this app was compatible with the device I was using to download . . .

The controls not a bug. It just locked up on the focus, touch anywhere on the picture will bring the controls back on.
When in live focus, if the focus box is green then the buttons go black, just tap the live focus box again and it will go white and your buttons are available again with out having to go to your options.
No video record. No help to me. Thanks

Very nice, but iPhone users are stuck with the Eos app.
Maybe there'll be updates, which have more features containing more sharing options etc.

good to know, Ive been using dslr con with a cable,must try wifi with video, which the eos app doesnt support.
Still no video as an option :/ that is a camera limitation, not the app.

Canon only allows AEB with three shots. I would like five or more shots. Is this possible with DSLR Controller?

Mario Benites Yes -the 70D acts as a hotspot you can connect directly to. Also- bring water :)

Can you control video recording as well ? also autofocusing during video recordings?
I have been using this app for monitoring video, but when playing back the video clips via the MX player on the android tablet it crashes all the time. Any got a solution for this?
Hi, do you know if you can have it configured so you can switch from iPhone to iPad or do you always have to reset it and start from the beginning again when you swap devices, as you do with the EOS app?

Thanks for your video. I have a galaxy tab 4 with the dslr controller. I use a canon 600d and have all the correct cables. BUT, i have a terrible lag on the video image; it's so bad that I can hardly use it. Any suggestions to resolve this issue would be appreciated. Thanks.

be careful of what camera and tablet you own. Go to the website and check to see if your equipment is compatible according to there listings. There is a free download version to test you phone or tablet.

No but there is an app called DSLR dashboard that I hear provides similar functionality for Nikon cameras.

I bought this app one year ago for my 5DMKII and it doesn´t work.
I never recieved any advices from the developer after emailing it several time.
I will have to try that app on the Nexus 7.
Works great on the Nexus. I use it often to check composition and settings before starting a video. (This is wired where you can use the app to start and stop video)

hello, please please PLEASE im hoping you can help me with this. i am using a on-the-go usb cable to connect my galaxy s5 to my canon 6d to use the app but when i open the app is says it cant find a compatible camera on either wifi or usb. i have the cable plugged into what i think is the correct slot on my 6d (the only one that seems to fit, the digital- a/v input) and when i plug it into my phone it doesn't even recognize that its plugged in. i used this same setup when i had my 60d and never had any issues, can you or someone please help me resolve this?

Brian Michael What type of photography are you doing? 6D s actually a little bit of a better sensor and has that nice Wifi. (I think it is nice) 5D Mark III offers better focusing system.
PhotoRec Toby The 6D def has a better sensor for low light & wifi is definitely cool to be able to remote from my android. I am looking for a workhorse of a camera that is good at most everything, whereas another camera may be better at one thing, I need something that scores well everywhere. I also do filmmaking, which is why the 5Diii is a strong contender.
I am upgrading from the Canon 60D. Whichever cam I buy it will be with the 24-105 f4, just so I have something that covers a decent focal range. I have a 50 1.4 and a 85 1.8 that I will use for portraiture. I plan to buy the new Tamron 15-30 2.8 vc for wides, Tamron 70-200 2.8vc and then will sell the 24-105 & buy the Tamron 24-70 2.8vc.
Might be a silly question, but is it possible to sort images by rating in either the DSLR Controller or DSLR Gallery app?
When traveling, I regularly scroll through my gallery (on camera) and select some pictures to send home straight out of camera. Problem is that I have no way of identifying which pictures were shortlisted in the DSLR Controller app. And scrolling through pictures in-App is rather slow.
So far I have been using a ridiculous method on my 5D3 - I rate the JPEG pictures on my SD card, insert a fresh CF card and use the "copy images" function coupled with the "scroll [**]" option to copy the shortlisted pictures to the CF Card, then I remove the SD card and connect to DSLR connect. Only the short listed pics are in the CF card, so I then download all images. Tedious and ridiculous (but works)!
Any help in speeding up the process is much appreciated!
Hi Toby, I can get the app to work with no problems until i mount my cyber commander as a transmitter to the hotshoe of my 6d. I can use the app to release the shutter but the transmitter isn't being passed a signal to trigger my lights. The same things happens when i push the physical shutter release button. Once I turn the wifi off the camera and transmitter function properly. Is this a limitation of the camera and the way the wifi works? I realize this is more of a question for the guys at canon but i've yet to get a reply and you seem to be pretty knowledgable on the topic of wifi and it's quirks.

I've recently installed DSLR Controller (v 1.06) on my Android phone and I'm trying to set it up to work with Canon 70D. I've connected to the camera's access point and, pretty much the same way as you've shown in the video, and I can control it with Canon Camera Connect app. However, as I open DSLR Controller, it fails to detect the camera. I'm wondering if it's something I'm doing wrong or if the newer version has bugs preventing it from working with the camera. Do you happen to still to use it with the 70D?
While you're running a TL with this app do you have to leave the app open and running or can you close it and leave it running in the background and have the TL still running? I like the idea of Trigger Trap and this app just not a fan of having the app open rendering the phone useless for other time passing activities, if that is in fact the case.

Yes, the phone connects directly to the camera.

I finally broke down and bought a Samsung Galaxy 7" Tab4 tablet . . . Unfortunately DSLR Controller app running on this tablet will not work with wirelessly with Canon 70D or 6D. There is no information regarding the Tab4 on the DSLR Controller site. I have requested a refund . . .
BTW . . . Google Play told me that this app was compatible with the device I was using to download . . .
Toby. Does this app transfer the full image. The EOS app seems only to transfer 1920x1080...a waist...
