  • I have always thought that the Rufus Method or installing Windows 11 on Unsupported PCs was only for fresh installs and didn't work on upgrades. It turns out I was wrong. It seems to work fine for upgrades. I was planning on making a video on how to do a fresh install of Windows 11 on unsupported PCs but I ended up making a video on how to create a USB drive that will install or upgrade any system to Windows 11.

Great video and thank you for sharing @CyberCPU
Here the last two times I did a full clean install of Windows 10 and 11 I did it via the CLI method. I personally prefer only having two partitions on the drive rather than the 4 the normal installer creatures.
I normally do the first partition as the EFI partition and the second partition is the primary that Windows 10/11 gets imaged onto with the DISM tool.

If you want windows 11 with out bloatware, do this. On a fresh install, choose the language on the first screen to English World, then after installation change the region back to US in settings. Also to avoid signing into microsoft, just choose sign into work or school, then when asked about signing into MS, choose sign in options choose to join a domain then create a local account.

Great stuff! I have a Samsung RV510 Celeron Dual-Core T3500, 2.10 GHz with 4GB Ram with legacy bios. It was natively running Windows 7, then Windows 10 and now thanks to this and Rufus it’s running Windows 11. The only issue I have experienced on both 10 & 11 is graphics tearing is Asphalt 8. Other than that it is playable with hardly any stutter. I’ve yet to try video and photo editing. Thanks Cyber dude 🙂

As pointed out on this video, you may not get the feature updates, however you can always download the latest ISO and manually perform the update as a standalone process. In other words, if the next update is 24H2, you can download that ISO and run it as an update instead of a full install. @@StriderRyu7

Don't know if someone already commented this, but if you don't get the option when running Rufus to select automatic updates, or you hit no you can change the options from the settings icon down in the left hand corner. Once changed just restart Rufus and you will have the option to download.

microsoft needs to give up on the hardware requirements for the regular user. there are so many systems that are still in great working order. that do not need to be upgrade. and some people don't have the money to but a new computer. there should be a version of windows for places that deal with private info. such as medical, banks, etc. that need to be able to keep people info such as SSN, Credit/debt Card info, home addresses, hippa related medical info, etc. from being hacked. these computers should have strict hardware built in. makes the most sense. but the regualr user have no need most of the time for a lot of this stuff.

Thanks bro - I just upgraded my Dell Precision T5810 from Windows 10 to Windows 11 (23H2) using Rufus after failing to get it to upgrade using other methods. This is a UEFI enabled machine with 64GB memory so well able to run Windows 11. It has a MB equipped with an LGA2011-v3 socket and is equipped with a Xeon E5-2678 v3 processor which munches everything I need it to! 😂 It is a Q3 2015 processor but very able to run many CAD products etc. I also have a Dell Precision T5820 machine which is a bit newer with a FCLGA2066 socket with a Xeon W 2145 processor (Q4 2017) and is already running Windows 11. Hope this information helps a few folks with older Dell Precision machines which are very well designed. 👍

I have found that MS has saved a lot of my file in OneDrive. I have since signed out of OneDrive, however, the OS continues to use the OneDrive folder. All of the other pin to folders have replaced the previous OS folder. Confusion is the best description of the situation. Maybe there is a way to reset all folders in Explore?

Rufus has been around forever, seems to work ok, the only problem its not completely plug n play, u have to set the options correctly and it depends on what computer ur going to use it for. Try to avoid upgrading windows if u can help it, its better to clean install for reliability and security, cause when u upgrade theres no way to truly know if MS is leaving stuff behind from ur old version to fingerprint u, plus u cannot garantee that all malware is gone if u dont do a clean install. While ur there with rufus I suggest download a linux distro and make a linux jump drive as well, cause if u just need firefox for a pc to stream netflix u dont need to waste money activating a windows os, keep that key for only your gaming rigs.

I talked about this in my last video on this topic. Right now it's only in the beta channel and there's no indication on whether or not they're going to do this in the release channel. They might just be testing ways of blocking unsupported hardware and ultimately this never comes down to the release channel.
We'll just have to wait and see what Microsoft does. If they block unsupported hardware then it just gives me an excuse to make more videos about new methods of installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. 🤷

I love your videos. I’m a big fan and that’s why I know you’re the guy to ask about this, i’ve been using Rufus for a long time now and I have an octopus 160 tiny PC it’s got a 1.6 Adam processor and while I haven’t tried I don’t think it can run windows 11 or 10 I want to use it as a game console but for some reason using Rufus or any method for that matter I can’t install any operating systems on the OptiPlex 160 because it tells me that I’m trying to install a uefi usb but I always choose mbr and bios so it doesn’t make any sense. I’ve even tried using the other option, which is UFI and I get the same response from the computer no matter what I do it’s telling me that the install is Uefi I would like any of the video games ISO’s like batocera or lakka. Do you have any idea what I could be doing wrong? I thought maybe this would even make a great topic for a video because nobody makes videos on these iOS to turn older PCs into video game consoles there’s a few, but none of them talk about the problems that you can encounter. They just show us straightforward installation and I haven’t had any luck using it on any of my computers That I want to use it on an A1 283 Mac mini or an iMac from 2008 hp compaq dc530 with agp graphics, none of them will work. Do you have any idea on what I could be doing wrong? I especially would like to get the dc530 and optiplex 160 to run batocera but at this point I’m starting to think it’s just not gonna happen that’s why I’m asking you! My go to troubleshooting guy! Thanks!

No modern Windows operating system comes in 32-bit anymore. I have to run some bizarre version of Ubuntu on it because it's the only one I could find that was still supported in 32-bit. Unfortunately you need a 64-bit processor for any modern version of Windows.

I’ve tried using Rufus in a couple different ways but I don’t even really care about windows I want to put on batocera/lakka but it’s the same thing it’s telling me that it’s a uefi but I would never choose that option, but just to be sure I went back and tried making the USB stick both ways, and no matter what it comes back with the same response pretty soon I’m just gonna strip it down and throw it away I hate like heck to do that but I can’t get it to do anything

🙂Eh Broh, are you doing this because ur in a country that new computers are very expensive OR your intro Retro? I'm here in Chicago and sometimes I experiment with Thrift Store prehistoric computers, what you can try to do is the "Sideload" method, I got Windows 7 to install just fine on ancient pcs and an old mac mini and an old mac pro doing it. But you will need a spare desktop computer to do it, using a spare PC and the ISO jump drive boot it up and start installing Windows to the SSD or Hard Drive, when windows says "Restart" turn off the PC, then open up the PC and transplant the prepared hard drive over to the prehistoric pc, boot up the prehistoric pc and go into bios to tell it to boot up the new hard drive, saves changes, reboot, the old computer should now go thru the bios screen then u should see something when it boots the hard drive, you should see windows coming up saying: Installation continueing.....just wait and let it do its thing, should eventually come up on the Desktop. You can do the exact same method with a linux distro. @@95Comics

      @peterpv0001 5 місяців тому

If you boot from the USB drive then you're going to perform a CLEAN install meaning, C drive is formatted, all apps and data are gone!
If you want to upgrade, just start your windows 10 and double-click that iso file from microsoft, this will mount the ISO file as a drive. Now open a command terminal and change to that new drive, then start setup.exe from the command line like so (assuming the ISO fdrive is D:) : D:/setup.exe /product server
This will upgrade youw Windows 10 on unsupported hardware and you get to keep all data and apps! But make a backup anyway!

I used your "old" method to install windows 11 on an old desktop PC. It was a bit of a challenge because I was having to switch between two PC's, two keyboards and two mice, plus change the monitor to the PC I wanted to view as I followed along with your video, but it DID work! However, when I attempted to make the USB portable version per this video, all went pretty well until I got to the section after I selected MBR and then clicked "Start". I did NOT get any popup window which should have allowed me to bypass the requirements for 4 mb RAM, TPM and the need for a Microsoft account, etc. Instead it immediately began installing the iso on my USB stick. I haven't tried it, but I assume if I do, it will tell me that the PC I am attempting to install it on does not meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11. How can I "fix" this so that I am given those necessary options before writing the iso to my USB drive?

    • @MrSamadolfo

most drivers are available by simply going thru the Windows 11 update process several times, restart, chk, restart, chk. Then using your browser search for websites: Intel Driver & Support Assistant and it will give you a few more drivers, restart and check restart and check. After that open up Device Drivers and see what yellow flags are showing up and hunt them down.

So my question or questions are, will i get standard updates for Win 11? or will my version be called out when an update occurs? This is my only PC and therefore it's my daily driver. The author is confusing the concepts of secure boot and GPT partition map. There is really nothing stopping you from disabling secure boot and using GPT, as I do. What really matters is the CSM. If you're using a computer that doesn't have full UEFI support or CSM compatibility mode enabled, it really won't start in GPT. And secure boot only affects whether or not the bios will let an unsigned OS through.@@SucculentSpaz

@CyberCPU Tech When you released your video on win11 23H2 two weeks ago, I followed your method to a "T" and made a usb boot drive with the 23H2 ISO. When I ran the usb to install windows 11, everything went great. Until it didn't. After going thru all the motions and I got to the part where I have to restart the PC, it came back on with my original windows 10 settings and a message that said MY SYSTEM WASN'T COMPATIBLE with windows 11. I ran it a second time to make sure I didn't make a mistake. I got the same result. I'm running an Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 with an AMD Phenom(tm) II X3 720 Processor, 2800 Mhz, 3 Core(s), 3 Logical Processor(s) and 16 gigs DDR3 ram. Has anyone else had this happen to them? While I agree a regular consumer spinning drive, may be unsuitable, not all spinning drives are unsuitable, for example...if you have a server setup with Saas drives (enterprise hardware) that are 15K drives they will out perform a consumer spinning drive (as you called it) and also out perform an SSD drive. That being said, those drives only work on servers...which would be a spinning drive option!
