After our woodford wheat opened up both of us got crazy amounts of banana on the nose and bready, vanilla, and banana on the pallete. I don't recall any of it when we opened the whiskey... Love that bottle for the price! Cheers gents, looking forward to seeing the christmas decorations.
I actually just picked up a bottle of the new Barrel Proof Wheat from Traverse City Whiskey Co. to send to you guys, the proof really helps balance the sweetness and it still has all that fresh baked bread crust smell and lingering taste.
In my opinion of wheat whiskies, Lone Elm Single Barrel is the king of wheat whiskies. The Lone Elm Single Barrel I bought has some complexity and nuances to it, and while it’s high proof at 58.9%, it still comes across as palatable and nice for sipping. I also think thanks to the 100% wheat mashbill it lacks any harsh edges, but still has alot of flavour and experience to give.
Woodford Reserve makes some of the most well balanced whiskey made today in America. I enjoy their whiskeys very much. They definitely have a flavor profile as you said.
I'm over here drinking larceny old fashioned atm, old fashioneds are my favorite, I'll have to try that. Luckily woodford rye is available at my nearby store
@@jaygriffin3878 Of all the wannabe prohibition states i've lived VA's ABC stores always have whiskey (pick one) in stock for some reason. The only positive about this state since the DC/NYC implants ruined it.
I really want to buy a bottle and drink with you boys sometime! You guys got me into starting to drink whiskey, scotch and bourbon! Appreciate what you do
Watched this on my new 4k tv. I thought the new vault looked good on my note 10 plus. But watching it in 4k. Omg. The picture is so awesome I feel like I'm in the vault with you guys. Every one needs a 4k TV.
Just blended standard woodford Reserve bourbon 75% with Teelings Irish whiskey with Caribbean Rum cask finish 25% blend. It The Teelings adds a buttery note to the cherry up front and the spice of the rye note is boosted by the rum notes. The finish is a slightly rum spiced oak that isn't dry. For me Teelings Irish whiskey has a saliva inducing juicy finish. This finish is lessened but present and makes the blend VERY drinkable.
Been a fan of the regular Woodford as well as the double Oaked for awhile now but haven’t tried the others. Gonna have to find that rye and wheat, thanks for the comparison!
Woodford is worth a distillery tour if you've never been. Beautiful place. I'd throw out Pikesville (out of Heaven Hill) if you are into bourbon and want to try to get into rye as well
I'm a fan of woodford and have been meaning to try the wheat out and this good review just reminds me that I need to grab a bottle... thanks for the run down guys.
I've had this and the Woodford Straight Malt for a few months and Daniel is correct, there is definitely a distillery profile. If you like Woodford's bourbon and want to branch out just a little then these (and the rye) are great choices. All are very tasty and easy drinking.
So I have never been a whisky fan(ever!) but I have enjoyed this content for a long time. Finally one day you explained the taste of Laphroaig as smoke and brine. ..... long time later I still am not really a whisky person BUT I am so a Isla (sp?) guy. I think it is the vanilla notes that I don’t like as I abhor vanilla. I could drink Laphroaig all day as it is so different. Thanks for introducing me to that nectar. If anyone has any other good suggestions I’d be open to it. I will most likely retire in the next 5 years and it’d be nice to have a collection of whisky that I enjoy. I could listen to Daniel all day and I’d just throw myself off that tower if stuck in a room with Rex, but I really enjoy all your content. All the best to you and yours!
So I'm gonna say this again just cause I cant live until it's fixed. THE MICROPHONE SCREENS ARE IN THE WIDE SHOT...thank you for you time during this PSA
Can't wait to try this. Sooooo fascinated by getting a chance to train/test my new to whisky palate on the 4 different grains that go into whisky but all made the same way. Different companies make diffgrain whisky in different ways using different methods... so it is hard to tell what is grain and what is method. Bought all 4 in Dexember and I am waiting to open them until I make a special wooden stand befitting their specialness lol
In total agreement with you guys about this being a good for beginner whiskey drinkers because on Thanksgiving a couple my friends came over that aren't big into drinking whiskey and they loved it they said it was smooth and creamy vanilla and Cherry notes
Do love my Woodfords, and the wheat is my second favorite behind double oak in the standard line. P.S. time to dock the sound guys pay for having the boom mike in frame. :)
I am graduating from college soon and would love a video comparing whisk(e)y you would recommend at a high price range. A celebratory, special occasion whiskey around 100-200$. If you're going to spend that kind of money, what would be some whiskies that you would recommend that are worth the money at that price point.
Woodford Reserve is now a consistent portal to each flavor group. And the standard profile lends to an ease of discovery....moving from one to another.
Woodford Reserve is definitely a series of whiskeys I'd have on my shelf at home. I like some of the other whiskeys too like Wild Turkey 101 but Woodford is a solid brand
I just tried my first dram of Woodford Reserve bourbon. It's lovely, it somehow reminds me of Balvenie 10 yo Founders Reserve, which was discontinued, sadly enough. Is my memory playing tricks on me? Maybe someone reading this has compared them side by side, please let me know what you think!
My first rye was Bulleit. Much prefer the bourbon, which was much more smoother. I don't like the notes of liquorice, which I've been told comes out in rye sometimes, so for the time being I'll stay on the wheat.
I was hoping Daniel would have pulled down a bottle of Weller 107 Wheated to compare. I love that stuff. Maybe Santa will bring me some Woodford’s Wheat.
So I homebrew and make a "Wheat Wine" that is incredibly different. I may have to experiment with using as a base for distilling... thanks for the review!
Single Malt Scotch = 100% malted barley. Many Irish are also 100% malt. Other Scotch and Irish will be mostly malt with other grains (which could be corn) mixed in. The Bulleit Rye is 95% rye, 5% malt. Stay away from all bourbons and anything made by a bourbon distillery, as it will have corn.
Happy I watched this. I had the Bullet Rye and didn't care for it. I like there is hope. I might try the Woodford rye. I liked the Woodford bourbon. On a different note, I took your recommendation for a beginner Scotch and had the Monkey shoulder. It was good. I have had the Johnny Walker and didn't care for it. Any more recommendations on beginner Scotch's?
Have you guys done a favorite or go to distillery episode? Some small ones only do 1 or 2 bourbons and others do a million but if you were going to pick 1 branch, say Woodford, Bulleit, Old Forester, Evan Williams, etc what would it be and how would you rank each bourbon in the line up
Cant seem to find eucalyptus in rye haha im sitting here with a class of high west double rye and im comparing it to leaves of eucalyptus and a euca essential oil. Its just there for me haha
I have just found Woodford Reserve Distillers choice... and it is my "special occasion " sipper.... cant wait to see if we have the Wheat.... my question... have you ever tasted the distillery from Montana at all?? we a have a several.. just wondering. Soo happy you brought in the bulleit rye, we tasted that and both like it... will have to check out the Woodford Rye.
Did anyone else notice the new bottle on the wall? Lagavulin 16 maybe?? How did that sneak up there???... maybe they just shot it out of order. Cheers!
Do you think with this new vault the bunghole might be able to keep you guys on track with the MBing during blind tasting? I think we’d all love to see Rex try some more speysides
this video got me curious, what if you mbs make a video explaining what flavour each individual grain imparts in a whisky, what flavours do you get from barley or rye, wheat, malted or not
I've been trying to get into american whiskey. Tried 4 Roses, didn't really enjoy it, Buffalo Trace, I hated it, it tasted almost like it had acetone in it to me, I tried a woodford reserve and it was alright. Any suggestions as an alternative introduction to american styles. I love scottish and irish whiskey, personal favourite is Talisker 10 if that helps.
Hey guys, I’ve been watching the show for a about a year and half now and I was wondering if you have done a video on a New Zealand whisky. It is very expensive here in nz ( A 4yo Thomson single malt is $150 for a 375ml bottle) I would be curious to see what you guys think if you haven’t already reviewed it. Cheers
Oh wow sorry to hear that. I’m in Chicago and that’s one of the only places that I can consistently find Eagle Rare. If you all Have Meijer’s there they have a lot of Woodford products.

Rex's Facebook profile: "Thick and soft. Thick, yet soft."
"How did this become a rye episode" cuz yall are becoming rye fanboys
Not one note, but they're all melded together... so a chord?
I kind of want to get one of each of their bourbon, malt, wheat, and rye and then do some at home blending with them.

Woodford Wheat may honestly be the best whisky ever made

I just made my first old fashioned with this but bourbon. It's great, very relaxed.
It’s the right time of year to jump into the ryes. Go for it, gents.
Wheat beers are a great intro to craft beer, I guess it makes sense for wheat whiskey to follow

I love wheat whiskey
You guys need to live stream.
We just opened this today. Absolutely delicious and stacks up to the woodford name. Nice smoke. Great flavor
Guess I’ll be buying so Woodford Wheat here soon. I do love a good wheat whiskey. Cheers! 🥃
I tend to like the Bernheim 7 year old over the Woodford... the Woodford is not bad, I just like the Bernheim better

Woodford Reserve is definitely a series of whiskeys I'd have on my shelf at home. I like some of the other whiskeys too like Wild Turkey 101 but Woodford is a solid brand
As a person who loves dense, dry cheesecake, I’m offended.
The best rye I’ve had so far is Knob Creek Straight Rye. NO ONE CAN RESIST THE KNOB!!!
Good intro ryes. Sazerac and Rittenhouse. Both very good. Not overly grassy. Want more grass taste. Whistle Pig 10 year and Piggy Back.

Sazarac rye is a great gateway rye.
Whistle Pig 10 yr Rye is really well done and i would say friendly to those without previous experience. Love Woodford as well.
What's your favourite of the various intermediate Woodford Reserves Liquors; bourbon, malt, wheat or rye?
I love what you guys do keep it up cheers
Same profile as the whole Woodford family, but had a surprising spice kick & burn. Was ok, but the double far outshines it
My first rye was Bulleit. Much prefer the bourbon, which was much more smoother. I don't like the notes of liquorice, which I've been told comes out in rye sometimes, so for the time being I'll stay on the wheat.
You guys should do a Christmas tree with mini bottles as the decorations.
I was just going to say that.
I was hoping Daniel would have pulled down a bottle of Weller 107 Wheated to compare. I love that stuff. Maybe Santa will bring me some Woodford’s Wheat.
I love the videos. Currently working on finishing the Double Barrel Reserve

Is it me or is the new vault upping Rex's mooch powers?
Picked up a bottle of woodford wheat today, very intrigued
This is great! I normally am not a fan of rye whiskey, but I love the Woodford bourbon. I'll have to give their rye a try...

Damn, your production is getting tight! Great show :)
Scored a bottle of Blanton's today. Merry Christmas to me.
Obi Baddad is getting a Blantons really a score?
Richard Rife where do you live that Blanton’s is routinely available and not on allocation?
Scott Fidler Being allocated has nothing to do with it being a “score”. It’s average bourbon thats chased by morons
Richard Rife ok. You seem really pleasant. Have a great day!
You guys didn’t do the Woodford Reserve Malt Whiskey. That’s the one I really want to know about.
Sazerac and oak & eden are the two eyes that I could handle as an introduction to eyes without being overwhelming. Two cents
Love this one by Woodford!
You Magnificent Bastards pulled out everything BUT the blue label Woodford, the Malt Whiskey. What gives???
If you want to drink some rum with some deep funk and complexity try Smith and Cross navy strength.
Try the rye after a drink of 4 roses, taste is pure gingerbread.
Is it as sweet as Angel's Envy Rye? Because that's a touch too sweet for my palette.

Makers Mark is a great entry into bourbon. It's a wheater, so it's very smooth and has a sweeter profile.
I'm pretty fond of their stuff. Anybody else find that the bourbon tastes strongly of banana bread? Might just be me.

Woodford gives us great spirits for $32 dollars

What is the diferente between rye and corn and wheat? As far as taste and smell goes
Rye can be new oak or used mostly new
Is wheat whiskey the Speyside of American whiskey?
I actually like the wheat whiskey. Totally different flavor than their bourbon.
Woodford Reserves are designed to travel around the flavor wheel without spiking out to for in any direction
What are the dustiest whiskeys you can buy, high ABV/Proof.
i know the wall has just started but yall need a playlist to reference back to later.
Honey wheat bread popcorn diggum smacks butterscotch. I wish I could get the same flavors I don't.
