Hey Rex and Daniel, love the show. I am a 21yr old and happened to acquire a collection of somewhat over 50 bottles (bourbon, scotch,rye, Irish) My problem is that I buy one take a sip enjoy it and am extremely hesitant to open it again. My plan was to put together a tasting and have multiple people over to try some of my whiskies unfortunately because of the quarantine, my wife and I are stuck here...all alone...with a bunch of fantastic whiskey and no one to share it with. Blessing and a curse lol
Nice to see another MT distillery coming up. I grew up about 15min away from where they are. Was not my personal favorite ever but did thoroughly enjoy the bottle. This was one of my first whisk(e)y bottles that I even got, won it as part of a photography contest.
If you can get it, the 2019 8 year old cask strength kilkerran is a sherry bomb. It's bottled at 57.1 abv and aged in re-charred oloroso sherry casks which adds a beautiful sweetness and depth of colour to the whisky. If you want to see a review, 'Scotch 4 Dummies' tried it a few months back and were blown away by it.
For a big sherry bastard if you're UK based are Whiskymaker's Reserves No. 1 & 2 from the Lakes distillery. Young at 3-4 years, but cask strength and so potent and full of flavour. Did a blind tasting test between the No. 1 and Glendronach 18 Allardice with some friends and the Lakes won the day.
Alot of whiskies have similar grains as beer, but Is there any whiskies made with oats? Oats is a nice thing when making ales to give them "mouth feel"/smoothness.
Macallan Classic Cut is the Macallan cask strength equivalent to the Aberlour A'Bunadh, and it's also quite delightful, if a touch more expensive. Main difference is that the A'Bunadh has more orange and citrus zest notes, and the Classic Cut has deeper notes of raisin and plum. Classic Cut is easier to drink without adding water from my perspective, but both are delightful. I also vastly prefer sherry bombs if I'm drinking scotch.
If you brew tea like I do, you experience that ultra-dry feeling all the time and even begin to enjoy it. The way you describe it, it sounds like there is a really high tannin concentration in that bottle.

As I watched this I poured a glass of 100% wheat new make and I too got a dry finish and almost a cool sensation in the back of my throat. I think wheat could have a typical dry character to it
Hey guys, I had a question that I was hoping you may be able to provide some answers to at least from your perspectives as small distillers. I was reading an article that mentioned how distilleries like Ardbeg and Glenmorangie and Bruichladdich are closed in accordance with UK regulations right now. I'm wondering what this means for future releases, as I imagine rickhouse management and distillation of new spirit is all but halted. Should we be concerned about future stocks of whisk(e)y?
Similar to isopropyl, acetone directly on your skin does that same rapid evaporation, but dehydrates so much, and so fast. I immediately thought of that when you mentioned the dry end, then you mentioned the isopropyl on your skin and I actually shouted at my screen, "Yes, but acetone!"
Robert Raschke Brake clean is mostly acetone, and I use it at work all the time. Some newbies don’t wear gloves as much, and instead clean their hands with the brake clean. This is generally a bad idea, as it dries out one’s skin so much it turns ashy and starts itching like crazy.
@@jonnda I do it all the time, as an aircraft mechanic I would use a gallon of it a day sometimes cleaning parts a day never had any itching. Acetone just doesn't really bother me. I use it for cleaning bowling balls still.
Robert Raschke For me it depends on how it’s used. If it’s in a sure shot, and one’s just liberally hosing one’s hands down with the stuff as it it was water from a faucet, that could get unpleasant real soon. If I soak a rag in it and wipe my hands off on that, there’s usually no trouble.
That is what playlists are for, my man. Start at the bottom, and work your way up the list - then do the same for the Tribe channel, and you will be mostly there.

Seems like a good place to ask this, I recently picked up a bottle of Larceny. I've had Makers before but I wanted to try another wheated bourbon. Instead of the upfront sweet taste, I get a lot of heavy cinnamon spice. Adding water calms it down some. Is that coming from the wheat or is that barrel related?
On the overly perfumed.... I was working in production at a winery as an intern and stepped into the tasting room to help out the servers on Valentine's Day. It is the WORST time to be working in the tasting room because dudes are taking their overly perfumed girlfriends with WAY too much make up on out to celebrate. Not only do they leave gobs of lipstick on the glasses but, I swear, if I had lit a match one of them would have burst into flames. In fact, their perfume was SO heavy I could taste it just by breathing the cloud of vapors of Chanel No. 9 hovering the wine bar.
So I've had this. They use this rubber cap.. which definitely somehow translates to the whiskey, or at least it did in my bottle. A friend described it as "a very strong taste of condom". I said it was like licking a balloon.. But yea, it was not the best bottle. I gave it away a few months later when the rubber taste didn't go away.
I don’t have a job right now, I can’t even really afford cheap beer right now. But what I do have is a cabinet full of whiskey I purchased a year or two ago. My stockpile is slowly going away, ha ha.
Hang in there. I still have a job but it's straight commission and my income has been cut in half. I just finished my Laphroiag. All I have left is half a bottle of Elijah Craig and some god awful cheap Canadian a neighbor gave me.

Hey guys, I've heard from some video on UA-cam, it may even be one of yours, that no one has ever released 2 versions of the same whiskey: one version that is un-chill-filtered and one which is chill-filtered. And once releasing these whiskeys, no one has done an experiment where a number of people taste the two whiskies blind to see if not chill-filtering whiskey actually improves the taste. It has been assumed that it does, but there is no science to back that claim up. Given that you guys have a distillery would this not be a great experiment to do on the Whiskey Tribe Channel?
You've had dry fly and bernheim, and long road...I could swear at this point you've had half a dozen 100%wheat whiskeys, but keep forgetting & saying you don't think you've had a 100% wheat before...lol

I've been told, not 100% sold on this but it makes sense, some astringency comes from your water. Some of it could come from your mash bill.

For the sherry casks whiskey, try the James and Pepper 1776. It's a straight rye whiskey finished in sherry casks. 100 proof and a good one
Glendronach 12 the Original is also a really good heavily sherried. Super marzipan and dense apricot notes.
Aberlour abunadh and Tamdhu batch strength are my recommended sherry bombs.

Chris Dominey I’m no expert, but I suspect it comes from the barrel and though I can’t prove it, I think there’s gotta be some amount of rye in it.
