I have to chime in with you kids today, I am of an age where i purchased my bourbons and other whiskey in the late 79s and $20 bought interesting whiskey. I xould find all types of Kentucky and Tennessee products in Western Maryland close to Morgantown WV. Reliably good were the JD and WT 101
I started under $30 and my first bottle was Belle Meade. That opened me up to Weller Special Reserve. I'm now working through BIB's and really enjoying how the standardization of the BIB allows you to compare them.
From the very moment i first tasted Double Oaked, i said it tastes like hickory smoked barbecue. Everyone said i was crazy, even our tour guide at Woodford. I'm so happy someone else finally sees it too lol
OMG Chad is a genius. I am literally sitting here eating smoked Texas brisket with fresh cut onion and home made dill pickles AND smoked sausage and cornbread. I paused the episode and poured a little double Oaked. Holy shitballs. It’s really good. Try it. Seriously.
I splurged my first purchase and got a woodfords double oaked and now I’m hooked on Woodford… my 4th purchase was a Blantons single barrel and a blue note juice joint lmfao
I have many different bourbons for special occasions and when Im feeling frisky, but woodford reserve is my daily sipper. Double oaked is also on my shelf.
Last year we did a tour and tasting at Woodford. The tasting included a “straight from the barrel” of Woodford as the last glass. It was amazing!! I wish they would release one of these in the ECBP price range. I also ran into the 128 proof in Florida liquor store last week, I just could not spend the $170 they were asking.
Don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but I have not found a barrel proof bourbon that I disliked (so far). I sip it one dram at a time and feel like you can really tell the difference in flavor. None of them drank super hot to me…
Tour the Woodford distillery, the mash room gives off a warm, fresh spicy sweet bananabread aroma that is so addicting. Sometimes i can taste it in a glass of woodford or the doubleoaked
I’m 43 I want to try whisky.. never been a fan of the smell but I’m going straight for Woodford reserve at this point I’m happy to pay $40/$60 odd dollars or more
Thanks for the Woodford Reserve rundown. I like WR but I don’t find their lineup all that interesting. Let’s just say that WR isn’t a brand that I seek out. If I see a double oak on sale I may pick it up but I won’t go out of my way for it. I am not downing WR, just saying it’s not special to me. I agree that barrel proof is better but not worth the money IMO. I am not a proof hound but with most of the lineup at 45.2% ABV…..nah…just not special to me.
Chad’s right that the Double Oaked likely pairs well with barbecue - for the same reason Zinfandel wines are paired with barbecue. The sweetness matches the spices quite well.
If you didn't know already, Curiosity Public has a "Drinkthrough" series. Dutch may have a problem with that tonight! Good luck IBN & cheers! #teamsara
Nice episode 👍 Unfortunately Brown Foreman bottles the standard and double oaked Woodford at 86.4 proof in Europe. I still like them, especially the double, but I'd love to test the difference. I will have to order it in a bar at my next US visit.
i love woodford and double oaked is my fav. who doesn't love in n out burger. with that double double? lol the only woodford not as crazy about is there chocolate. but it is still good. thanks and cheers.
Just found a 2021 batch proof here in Australia for 225 but just been pulling trigger on wild turkey 12yr 101 for 145 but been thinking I wanna try some Woodford at a higher strength as I never cared for their core range even though double oak is ok...hard to beat a good rare breed or Russells I think .or maybe I'm more of a turkey fan than brownforman I think.but cheers all so 225aus worth it for 2021 batch proof here in 2024?
So we explored the Woodford but it might be time to REVISIT this in a "Will it Mint Julep?!" Try each Woodford with the same Mint Julep measurements! Muhahahah! I mean, seriously, I don't expect this. I love mint and Mojidos, but couldn't get into Juleps. I just thought it fit with the Derby. Hope everyone is well! That means you too Viewers!
Mint Julep is nasty. I love the Ky Derby, the Derby barbecues, and especially the famous Brown Hotel’s hot brown, the Derby steam boat race and the parade. I love that Ky Derby official mint julep souvenir glass. I’ll take a bourbon without the mint and sugar water. That crap burns my throat. I am a native Kentuckian--real old skool.
@@dianne8340 if I was offered a Mint Julep or an Old Fashioned, it would be Old Fashioned 100% of the time too. I understand fully. I couldn't get into them either. Even tried the Old Forester Mint Julep mix they had at one points an it was too medicinal.
You know I really didn't start with cheap whiskey of any kind Irish, Scotch or Bourbon. Now I did find some other's later that I did like. Bourbon is always been hard for me to find ones I really like but I always try
I was excited to try double oak but ended up not caring for it. I was drinking it in a flight so maybe just the comparison to the other whiskeys gave it an offensive flavor.🤷♂️
This episode hit home. I like regular WR, but it’s like good vanilla ice cream-tasty, but maybe should’ve gone with Cherry Garcia instead. Then I did a tasting at Woodford in June last year that finished with the barrel proof. One of the best bourbons I’ve had. And of course they were sold out by then. They could put out a killer OF 1920ish 11x proof that I would buy in a heartbeat. But no. Sigh.
Woodford for whatever reason is just to thin and herbal for me. I really wanted to like it but I just can’t. For being such a large distillery they come out with some big expensive misses when it comes to their releases as well
I've drank a ton of Woodford Reserve.....I don't ever remember tasting bananna in any of them. It's a shame you didn't do the wheated version. I think it's one of their better products. Interestingly Woodford made the 2nd worst bottle of whisky I ever drank(#1 was Willett Pot Still), it was the Sonoma Cutter master collection release(the maroon labeled bottle in 2017 or 2018...maybe 2019). It was a very pretty bottle. That bottle of hot garbage set me back $109 and made me very wary of purchasing any of Woodfords master collection releases.
Hi Guys (gender neutral 😅)... you mentioned Bardstown in the video as better "juice" for the higher price. I got my hands on Bardstown Ferrand on secondary for just over $150 at the end of last year. Don't regret one bit. Yum yum... would I have preferred MSRP. Yep... a one time buy on secondary, okay. Hoping to score on some Disco #7 👍👍👍
Another great vid guys 👌thanks, from a long time subscriber, love you guys ❤️❤️❤️❤️ But wtf Woodford in Australia?? Watered down ffs (and not the only ones jeez). Sh*ts me bad. Just give us what they get in the US. I want flavour! I drink all scotch/bourbon neat. Stop fkg watering down whiskey down under please 😪 (Totally agree on the proof issue you mentioned also, up the proofs in general!!)
@@ItsBourbonNight thanks for the reply 😊 yes I believe it is taxed according to the ABV. Assuming people with spreadsheets from these distilleries etc have looked at profitability above quality and thought it was worth specific bottlings (spelling?) of lower proofs for us here 😞 ❤️ the channel keep up the great work. Long time subscriber rare commentor.
Drink throughs of a companies line are my favorite type of whiskey vids!
"Isle of Misfit Bourbons." 😄
I had no idea that there are so many variations in the Woodford line. Thanks!

Woodford Batch Proofs are some of my collection favorites.

I am so over 90.4 proof bourbon. I had a Masters Collection that was 128.3 proof and loved it.
From the very moment i first tasted Double Oaked, i said it tastes like hickory smoked barbecue. Everyone said i was crazy, even our tour guide at Woodford. I'm so happy someone else finally sees it too lol
A double double in Canada is a coffee with two cream and two sugar

Your meal selection sounds more delicious than this group of Woodford bourbon.

'Sticks to your ribs'...that's a good one, nice.

Missing out by not drinking their wheat whiskey if you never have. It's part of their core line too.
Tour the Woodford distillery, the mash room gives off a warm, fresh spicy sweet bananabread aroma that is so addicting. Sometimes i can taste it in a glass of woodford or the doubleoaked
Absolutely. Been a handful of times and love the smells of the distillery.
I'll never forget the smell of the rickhouse!
It's the yeast strain they use that gives it that banana smell and flavor
Batch proofs are the only one I would like. Any bourbon under 100 proof is missing favor.
I’m 43 I want to try whisky.. never been a fan of the smell but I’m going straight for Woodford reserve at this point I’m happy to pay $40/$60 odd dollars or more

I would love to know your thought on their Wheat, Rye and Malt releases.
Love all the comparisons not normally seen at one video, but the price on the 128.3 is quite different than your $140 now.
Great summary! Thx
Never had this whiskey just bought some today, banana/pineapple was the first thing I smelt when I popped the top

Here in Finland, you are lucky if you even get "the regular stuff"😅😅😅
Great if you like the taste of wood - very oak forward

Double oaked is wildly different than most bourbons so it's possible.
Where do you find the batch proof?
I think we found it at Total Wine.

Why not just do "Double Oaked" and "Triple Oaked" Double Double is 4x, so the name is misleading.
A well placed comma "wood" do some good lol
