I love how a metal band can give me a history lesson, this was about Europeans and Native Americans fighting each other and they give both sides to it
Bruce Dickinson does that ALL THE TIME. This song is about Westward Expansion in America. Aces High is the Battle of Britain and the Trooper is The Battle of Waterloo.
@@jeffcocco7123 don't forget Alexander the great too
@@jeffcocco7123 The Trooper is about the battle of Balaclava. Or more specifically, The Charge Of The Light Brigade during the battle of Balaclava,
@@jeffcocco7123 the trooper is specifically based on the charge of the light brigade a suicide charge on horseback.
@@jeffcocco7123 the trooper is not waterloo
"Enslaving the young"... NOT saving the young.
Well they tried the other one, it just didn't turn out so well.
Cowboys and Indians put to music. The lyrics are from both perspectives. History metal at it's finest. Just like "The Trooper" "Aces High" "Flight of Icerus" many more.
EDDIE LIVES🤘🤘🤘🤘
and lest we forget.... rhyme of the ancient mariner.
Alexander the great
Love iron maiden, great band.
You forgot mother russia...
I am EDDIE. 💀
“Enslaving the young and destroying the old” thats what they’re singing.
Great Maiden song.
“he song documents the colonization of the Americas, first by Europeans and then by Americans, from the perspective of a Cree Indian and American cavalryman. The opening verse is from the perspective of the Cree, describing his troubles as the European Americans "came across the sea", bringing the Cree "pain and misery".[6][7] The song is written from both perspectives,[8] The second verse is from the perspective of a U.S. cavalry soldier, describing his involvement in the American Indian Wars, "chasing the redskins back to their holes". The third verse is not from the perspective of any single individual, and harshly condemns the effects of American expansionism on Native Americans, resulting in the "[Americans] raping the women and wasting the men", and "enslaving the young and destroying the old”
it seems to me as a european, that this part of american history is always let out of their history lessons in school. at some point they gonna have to recognise that their country was not build up on freedom and greatness other than on destruction, enslavement and brutal murder.
@@lorenzsabbaer7725 we spent a solid 3-4 weeks covering the 1600-1800s. Probably varies from district to district
Actually there's a lot of fictional drama.... Here are the facts:
1. There were only several million tribal people in America
2. Disease came ahead of Europeans(just as the black death came from rats that moved north ahead of traders)
3. The land was wide open, with no one claiming it except for the purposes of migrating with animal herds
4. After contact with Europeans, the tribes population grew through trade
5. Tribes engaged in skirmishes along the frontier just as they did with EACH OTHER (taking slaves, KILLING, RAPING and burning homes)
6. Every once in a while these skirmishes would lead to outright battles where the Europeans almost always won
7. Colonists continued to spread out and take more open land, again unclaimed except for following herds
8. After prolonged exposure, peaceful tribes started to mix with European settlements, leaving the tribes for towns
9. Tribes and Europeans mixed so much that US whites now have on average about 3% tribal DNA.
And lastly, the remaining tribes were pushed out of their migratory patterns by the USG. Earlier, land was purchased from the chiefs and they moved willingly but the remaining tribes were wrongly resettled. But this doesn't constitute genocide. The truth is, Europeans were more than fair with the natives for the most part. They didn't conquer them, they didn't slaughter them, they integrated with the superior society that had more wealth and freedom. There were a few examples of evil behavior from the Europeans but for the most part it was beneficial to the tribes.
@@2869may where did you get your facts from, was it from Trump's version of history
@@arlenmendonca9734 You're so weak minded you instantly relate this to Trump....?
you're a joke..! and not a clever one....
Iron Maiden are heavy metal legends. My favorite songs by them: Wasted Years, The Trooper, Aces High.
All good song's
They are an amazing band, to see how good they are try the live video for Hallowed Be Thy Name, it is fire! Enjoy! 🎸
This is the band that back in High School we all hid from our parents! They all said it was Satanic! Bruce Dickinson Has a voice like a tornado Siren, one the most powerful voices in all of Metal!
They used to say Air Raid siren Dickinson.
Yeah, I hid their cassette tapes under my bed and listened to them on my Walkman after I went to bed at night. I was so scared that my Mom was going to find them (and she finally did) that I put them in a shoe box. My Mom is/was a hard core Christian and I didn't want her seeing the album covers (the one ya'll show was one of them). But they're still like my favorite all time band all these years later.
Don't forget Bruce Halford of Judas Priest!!!! He has an amazing voice 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
@@hwollemann82 Rob halford is my favorite metal voice of all time!
Saw Maiden in their prime, Bruce would put his foot on the speaker and bellow it! Completely awesome!!
The Creature on the album cover`s name is Eddie. During their concerts a 40 foot Eddie comes out on stage and casts his spells!
Iron Maiden is the bomb! The rabbit hole is deep with one of the top Metal bands of all time. More Maiden please!!!!
I was 12 years old when I heard this first time, now I´m 51 and this is still great to hear. Cheers from Finland!
JTK+ Same here, same age. Cheers from good ol USA.
My Maiden journey is obviously shorter than yours but enjoying it nonetheless. I was around the same age when I found my father's stash of heavy metal and hard rock cassettes, and Iron Maiden (don't remember the album) was one of them. I've been on this heavy metal journey ever since. Greetings from Finland, as well.
been a fan since 1980..........awesome band still love them now at 57yrs old
Iron Maiden = Legends! Been blazin 46 yrs now w/ lead singer; Bruce Dickinson who imo, is prob best Metal lead ever & still blows like this! THX’s 🔥 Reaction! ♥️
Flight Of Icarus is another good song.
Yo BJ for you man... music and words... words tell the story. :)
The white man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribe, he killed our creed
He took our game for his own need
We fought him hard, we fought him well
Out on the plains, we gave him Hell
But many came to much for Cree
Oh will we ever be set free?
Bruce Dickenson MAY be the most legendary man that is currently alive!!!
Vocalist. Opera Singer. Professional Fencer. Children's Author. Professional Pilot. Etc.
The man lives his LEGENDARY life 100% of the time!!!
Children's author? Have you even looked at The Adventures of Lord Iffy Boatrace? Author, definitely - children's author, not that I've seen. Only books of Bruce's that I'm aware of are The Adventures of Lord Iffy Boatrace, its sequel The Missionary Position, and his autobiography What Does This Button Do? so if you've got a link to a children's book, I'd love to see it.
One suggestion, when you're doing Iron Maiden, try to find live versions, they're one of those rare bands that tend to be better live than studio. I've seen several requests for the song Hallowed Be Thy Name off this same album - look for the video clip from Hammersmith 1982, it might be old, but it's epic!
And definitely look up the lyrics, Maiden is a band whose songs tend to have serious subjects. Run To The Hills is about the Native Americans being overwhelmed by the Americans during the westward expansion, for example, while Aces High is about the Battle of Britain during WWII from the perspective of an RAF fighter pilot. Hallowed Be Thy Name is the reflections of a prisoner awaiting execution.
That is a bloody lie. While they have a handful of exceptional live performances in general you are going to get a better sound from the studio recordings. Especially when it is a more recent show. Bruce Dickinson is an excellent singer who has take better care of his voice than most but age still has it's evil way on his top end and sustain. Pretty much I look for the mullet. If Bruce is still rocking the mullet, he still brings the fireworks. After that he is still good but it won't be up to his old standards.
Lyrics... Great song
White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes, he killed our creed
He took our game for his own need
We fought him hard, we fought him well
Out on the plains we gave him hell
But many came, too much for Cree
Oh, will we ever be set free?
Riding through dust clouds and barren wastes
Galloping hard on the plains
Chasing the redskins back to their holes
Fighting them at their own game
Murder for freedom the stab in the back
Women and children are cowards, attack
Run to the hills
Run for your lives
Run to the hills
Run for your lives
Soldier blue in the barren wastes
Hunting and killing's a game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good Indians are tame
Selling them whiskey and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old
Run to the hills
Run for your lives
Run to the hills
Run for your lives
Yeah
Ah, ah, ah, ah
Run to the hills
Run for your lives
Run to the hills
Run for your lives
Run to the hills
Run for your lives
Run to the hills
Run for your lives
ENSLAVING THE YOUNG AND DESTROYING THE OLD

Awesome song metal stunning the guitar rocks
If you haven't already??? Your next Iron Maiden reaction video needs to be "Wasted Years"
Yes, yes, and yes!!!
Native Americans were big fans and on the reservation I grew up on.. everyone knew this song.
this song is from iron maiden's third album, number of the beast, which was released on march 29, 1982.
One my favorite concerts in high school!!!!
I absolutely LOVE THIS BAND!!!!

Been listening to Iron Maiden since my early childhood. I have brothers 10 & 14 years older...I was exposed to a lot of metal/rock/classic rock, etc...because of them. They were both long haired metalheads/skateboarders/surfers. Grew up in Long Beach California. I've seen Iron Maiden in concert, twice. Fantastic shows! I was asked to be on stage with Bruce Dickinson..but refused....yep...I refused! LOL Shy AF! Silly me in my 20's..hahaha Great reaction, as always~
One of the best singers in metal !
It can take years of listening to rock n roll. To get the true essence of its awesome Ness. I hear it different now than when I was younger.
They said "Enslaving The Young and Destroying The Old"
This is actually off of their 3rd album.
Iron Maiden tend to tell stories with their songs. They often draw on history, mythology, and literature for inspiration.
The Trooper
Number of the Beast
Rhyme of the ancient mariner
Flight of Icarus
Ace’s High
2 minutes to midnight
Fear of the dark
Hallowed be thy name
Just to name a few.
This was an important single for Iron Maiden in 1982... they already had 2 albums out recorded w/ original singer Paul Di'Anno and were touring worldwide when it was apparent that Di'Anno couldn't handle the touring... so they let him go in 1981...
Going into 1982, Iron Maiden hired singer Bruce Dickinson and recorded the 3rd album 'The number of the beast'... They needed to introduce a new singer to their fans... so they chose to release 'Run to the hills' first to introduce Bruce Dickinson as the new lead singer of Iron Maiden.
Thankfully, the time was right and the single was a hit... the album went #1 on the UK charts and sold platinum in the US. Iron Maiden had arrived🤘🤘🔥
Thanks a lot for reaction! That song it's great!
Favorite band growing up.Good tune
I wish they watched the video and seen how crazy the drummer did!!!!!
True meaning of speed Rock
What a drummer
One of the best ever. Along with Keith Moon(The Who)
Classic iron maiden love it one of my favourite metal bands
Yes UP THE IRONS….. my childhood music, seeing them LIVE is even better on fire 🔥 …. Still hoping after this endemic IM will start their World Tour again after Covid came 2020 …. Asia your right on the ART work is on fire 🔥 too & with meaning …. Love your reaction
An amazing song by an amazing band 🤘🤘🎸
Iron Maiden may be coming to a town near you next year, if you can afford it (it's stupid pricey to go to shows now, no cap) they are one of the most fun and energetic bands to see live...maybe listen to "Blood Brothers"...Maiden are EPIC live, that is their thing
Iron Maiden is quite the rabbit hole, I suggest having the lyrics up, so you can follow along, it's worth it with this band, as they tell fairly detailed elaborate stories, tales, and what have you in their songs. Great lyrics.
My history teacher played this in the early 90s for us . Great song , great lesson !
I went to this concert . Billed as Iron Maiden "Number of The Beast " and Judas Priest " Screaming for Vengeance " in 1982
I love her micro expressions with the writing of Harris!
The Number of the Beast was 1982 the 3 .Album of Iron Maiden and the first with Bruce on leadvocals
They have great live performances
"Enslaving the Young, & Destroying the Old"
Iron Maidens music is a history lesson on steroids, this song is about the white man coming to America back in the day, I love your reactions
I was just typing pretty much this. Sure do miss music with a message ;)
Excellent lyrics..." Soldier blue in the barren wastes." Really paints an image.
This is the metal i grew up with. Iron Maiden is IT. They were before Metallica so even Metallica listened to this. Guaranteed! I love your reactions Asia and BJ.
You're one of my favorite music reactors, love your energy 😊
and in the beginning there was light and "black sabbath" , then "judas priest" and then "iron maiden" .
the oldest of metals . this band helped the change over to what you know as HEAVY METAL today .
we could not have gotten here without this band .
You need to mention Deep Purple with the Sabs. Sabs brought the heavy doom and Purple the technical speed to metal.
All I had in my cassette player in high-school. Still making good music tooooday
These guys are highly educated. In their songs you get history lessons, Greek Mythology, head trips into the minds of people in all kinds of situations, including jack the ripper. They are genius.
had the privilege to see them on their farewell tour in summer ‘19. they had a full sized Spitfire fighter plane during “The Trooper” 🤘🏻🔥🍻

Heavy Metal Royalty! First 5 studio Albums are all fire!
the monster is named EDDIE , AND IS A TRADEMARK of the band .
Love this song! These guys are underrated!❤️😘☮️😎
I saw them when they were touring for this album. Girlsschool opened up, then Queensryche, then Iron Maiden. I freaked out the first time I saw Eddie come out but it was awesome. It was Great going to concerts in the late 70's and 80's.
Yep, we had Iron Maiden, Saxon, Judas Priest and of course, Motorhead!
@@karmannghiaman1041 I love Saxon. In the early to mid-90s I was a manager at Best buy and we had them there for a album signing. They were a great bunch of guys. And as I remember they were one of the first ones in the early '80s that started coming out in MTV.
I saw Iron Maiden in 1982!
You two are lovely...excellent review....hi from Canada
Great song great band. They have a long catalog of great songs.
Amazing song from an amazing band 🤘🎸🎸
up the maidens my fave band.alot of their songs are about things that happened in history or poems/tales/stories.
good first choice of their songs to listen to.hopefully you will listen to some more.
i wont make any suggestions as i will be happy with anything from iron maiden.
Iron Maiden is always a good history lesson 👍🎶🎤
This is their first album with Bruce Dickinson. I think there was 2 albums with their prior singer (Paul DiAno) in the U.S.
Iron maiden loved to do commentary on historical events . Aces high was another great one.
In the artwork, if you look closely, the devil has a teenager on puppet strings but Eddie, the Iron Maiden mascot has the devil on puppet strings. Look closer in the clouds and you will see another hand, keep looking 😉
Iron Maiden ROCKS! This is the first metal reaction video I've watched. Loved it. I've watched all of your Upchurch, Calhoun, and Dexter reactions and love them all. Asia is always sooooo BEAUTIFUL! You should do Savannah Dexter's new one (Mud it up)
My favorite from them. Drums galloping like the horses
You should see them live 🤟🏼
From - Number of the Beast - 3rd album- in 1982.
adreinaline junkie could be said for all iron maiden songs.they are feaking awesome with most songs having a message or story to them.2 minuites to midnight is one you have to listen to!
Just got outta jail and good to see my favorite UA-cam reaction couple. And maiden on top of it! Ps, don't go to jail during pandemic. Well ever
Its a song about European settlement and fighting the Natives American Indians. Its sung in the perspective of the Indians (first verse) and the Europeans (second verse)
This is more about the how American Indians were treated....lots if history in Iron Maiden songs
they are storytellers , listen to "rhyme of the ancient mariner" awesome story in that .
They are singing about the Native Americans being pushed into the mountains when settlers were coming to America.
🏝😵😵 an acquired taste , next level Musicianship.🔥super relevant n Intelligent song writing 🔥 U CAN LUVV 80’s Metal. ANd Rap. ✊🏽
I think I've learned more history from Iron Maiden that anything I learned in HS. Check out "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner", based on an epic poem.
Iron Maiden...the best of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The official video would have helped to grasp the concept of the song. Alternatively, follow the lyrics. Metal songs usually have a deep meaning and they travel at a fast tempo, so you'll need to keep up😁 Great reaction as always👍
Bruce Dickinson was originally an opera singer and the zombie mascot thing's name is Eddie, he has a history but I don't know it.
Check out Power Slave, it's about the exodus of Egypt.
'Enslaving the young and destroying the old' is the lyrics
One of the best bans to see live.
You gotta see the music videos of this and all iron maiden
Iron Maidens Hallowed Be Thy Name and PANTERA's Domination
Yeah you guys are excellent with your reactions and I think from memory, as a 63 year old Maiden fan, this is about circa 1983? I’d love to be more accurate within a month or two, but I was about 23 years old when IRON MAIDEN punched this one out 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘❤❤❤👏👏👏
I really like this one from them and happens to be my favorite from them. Don't forget that Bill & Ted love this band too. "Magic Power" by Triumph is good too!
"Selling them whisky and taking their gold, ENSLAVING the young and destroying the Old..."
Kick ass metal.. Great
I was in 10th grade when this came out. This is the about the plight of the Native Americans against the take over of their lands.
Gosh I was 14 years young when this was out.
You guys are soo cute!! Thank you! :-)
Well Iron Maiden, they have done a lot... Check out their best album "Piece of mind". Every song on here is great!
WOW....STRANGE YALL DID THIS ONE TODAY, IT WAS STUCK IN MY HEAD OUT OF THE BOUE HALF THE DAY
My favorite Maiden song
Caught Somewhere In Time by them 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
