Yes , the dealership wanted $650 dollars to change the fuel filter & $ 300 dollars to do a oil change & filter on my 2021 , Ram 3500 H.D. with only 16,000 miles . I did everything for under $260, got the parts & oil from Doc's .

I just ordered this set through your link. Came out to $89 after tax and shipping costs. Crazy that it includes 3 filters for that price. Earlier today I spent $200 at the dealership for both fuel filters; I'll be returning those tomorrow.
Exactly. So far I have had no issues with mine. Others swear by only using OEM and I have done both. I didn’t really see a difference when I switched the filters. To each their own though! As long as it works, I am good!
Yeah the PVC made it easy to drain that filter housing. Before I would try everything to catch the diesel and always made a mess. This time put some thought into it to try and keep from getting diesel everywhere 🤣 the wife doesn’t appreciate when I throw diesel infused clothes in the washing machine lol The new separator was much easier to replace than the 4th gen. I am very happy that they redid this.
If you are talking about the one that is tan in color at the top right of the screen, I believe that is a sensor of some sort and it goes up towards the firewall.
My front filter leaked so I unscrewed it and looked to see if something was wrong then put it back on and it was still leaking but not as much maybe like a drip every 8 seconds so I tightened it about an 1/8 of a turn and it stopped leaking but it was a pain in the ass. I was afraid if I tightened it to much I would break the rubber gasket but it good now. I'm just wondering if anyone had the same problem or if there's a more for sure way to tell if you get it right the first time.

I also have a 2021. The Docs filters are okay, I will buy Mopar at my next change. Just seem to but a better quality. As far as the fuel filter change process, super easy! You can absolutely do it yourself. The red thing is a Banks Monster Ram air intake. I have a couple videos going over the install of it and a few other parts. It has been a great upgrade so far.
So far everything seems to be working fine. Just drove from Houston to Nashville and back last week. Running great! So far, I would recommend using them again. Just stay on top of the routine maintenance and these filters are great.
I had a place say the under the hood fuel filter does not fit because it’s oval not round. Is this one you installed oval? I see it went on just fine for you thanks
Yes the bottom part of the filter that slides over the inside of the canister is oval. Even when you look inside the canister with the filter removed you can see that it is not round. Sounds to me that the shop you dealt with is uneducated on this.
If you are talking about the monster ram install, so far I see a significant change in the power. The fuel mileage is dependent on how I am driving lol taking it easy, the mileage is way better but it is so much more fun to drive it now so I have been burning up the fuel 👍🤣
I learned one definitely should drain the fuel out with a hose b4 changing filter otherwise everything under the truck will be bathed in fuel including the ground
Oh yeah. I have done this myself 🤣 I had a 2018 and the drain valve was different on the fuel water separator. I loosened it to drain, pulled the old one off and swapped over the components to the new filter. Reinstalled it and thought I tightened the drain plug. Well, I went to start the truck and it was just dumping fuel on the ground because I didn’t tighten it, I loosened it hahaha that was one of my first fuel filter changes and let’s just say if made a MASSIVE mess. My wife really loved me when I threw my shirt into the washing machine and made the entire load of laundry smell like diesel. Bahahaha!

@@wreckitmech306 family is doing great! I will say this, I did to a test run and it seemed to do better. Initial run used 4.801 gallons. The first test I used 4.676. The reason I have not posted yet because I am going to redo the run again and set my cruise control. I had my cruise set the first time on my initial run but forgot to set the cruise. I was running 75-80 the entire drive and it was 88 miles round trip. It was definitely worth it though. I see however that it does use more fuel but that is because it is WAY more fun to drive 🤣 on long drives though I have seen much better fuel economy. I will have better date as soon as I can! So sorry for the delays!
I hope these work for you. My truck came with Napa filters and ended up having injectors fail so I don’t know if it was age, contaminants, or neglect but I only use Fleetguard or Mopar now which are expensive!
We will see, I am usually really adamant about changing out the filters regularly. I too normally use Mopar filters but read some great reviews about Doc’s Diesel so figured I would give it a shot.

I only use Fleetguard or Mopar too and tell every Cummins owner to do the same. The money you save on non-OEM filters will be eclipsed by the cost of new injectors and/or CP3.

A couple errors... the correct size tool for the filter caps is 28mm *not* 1 1/8. You will eventually bugger up tje hex. You should prime more than simply twice. You absolutely do not want any air pockets because the HPFP is lubricated by fuel and an air bubble can damage the pump (bigger issue with CP4 pump than with CP3). Lastly, there is not yet "5th Gen" 2500/3500/4500/5500. Only 1500 has 5th Gen.
Thanks for the corrections. My truck is in fact a 5th gen. Even the slightest research shows that the 1500 series 5th generations came out in 2018-present and the 2500 series and up is 2019- present. As the video title states my truck is a 2021 year model making it a 5th generation ram truck. As for the 1 1/8” socket vs the 28mm it’s 1.125” standard vs 1.102” metric. If you have a 28 mm socket by all means use that. If you do not however, (like I do not) the 1 1/8” works just as good until the correct size can be acquired. Priming the system more than twice sounds like great advice and I can see the value in doing it. I appreciate the feedback and I will ensure to make the necessary adjustments in future fuel filter changes. I am by no means perfect nor a mechanic and I post these videos with mistakes and all to allow everyone to learn from my mistakes and provide themselves the best maintenance they can on there vehicle.
Be careful with those Docs filters. They are Chinese made and do not meet the minimum filtration requirements called for by Ram and Bosch. The under hood filter was not sealed in plastic. This allows cardboard fibers and other contaminants to enter the clean side of the filter during shipping. You would have had better filtration and engine protection running the factory filters twice their recommended interval over using those Chinese filters. Docs has good reviews because they delete the bad reviews. I have contacted them. The filters are made in China and do not have a two step final filter that filters to two microns. They filter to seven microns. This will severely impact your injectors over time unless your fuel at the pump is perfect and not needing any filtration. Be careful. That purchase is playing with fire. Another tip. When you buy the under hood filter through fleetguard or mopar it comes with instructions. You skipped a step. Drain the front filter. Loosen the cap. Do not remove the cap. Open the drain again. This allows the fuel in the canister to drain and the bowl can be cleaned. If you leave fuel in the can the clean side and dirty side fuel mix. This could introduce contaminants to the clean side of the filter when installing the new cartridge. What you did was drain the fuel that was under a slight pressure. Remove the pressure and the fuel stops flowing. Break the lid seal and gravity removes the remaining fuel. Your truck is awesome and you want to do an OCD job. You take great videos and buy the best parts. So this filter is kind of out of line with your perfection attainment. IMO it is tacky marketing on Docs part. But, keep up the good work. Your truck is amazing and we can all learn more together and do better. I dont want to bring bad news or negativity but maybe a course correction.
Ah thanks for the feedback on extra steps to be taken to fully drain the filter can in the engine bay. I never thought about breaking the seal and then opening the drain port again and let gravity do its work. As far as the filters go, I am very adamant on changing the filters regularly. I normally use Mopar filters only but decided to give these a go. So far they seem to be doing fine, however, as I mentioned I am not one to go further than the intended change out mileage because I have trust issues lol This video however was more so about how to change the filters in your driveway opposed to the filter selection itself. Regardless though, you are not the first person to voice disgust with this brand, so myself moving forward I will be taking everyone’s recommendations and sticking with the brands I know and trust moving forward! Nicely done video! For anyone needing a 1-1/8" socket, try to get a 6 point socket, because there's much less chance of slipping on that plastic cap.

How do reset the computer to indicate you changed the filters?
On my RAM I can cycle to the fuel filter life on the gauge cluster and it says to hold down right arrow to clear and reset.

Did Ram give you any problems when you installed the monster Ram?
No, I did not hear anything from them in regards to the parts. When I took it in for service everything went just fine.

I usually change it when the tracker in the truck tells me to. I want to say it comes on around the 15k mile marker.

A little advice, don't tighten the water release valve too much. I did and broke the valve. Had to order the cap on line.
Duely noted! When I tighten that stuff up I just rotate until it stops. Some of the components seem like they could easily be broken.
