I was glad to see this was just as much of a pain for Wade as it is for me. Always kind of thought I was doing it the hard way. I always empty the bowl first before pulling the filter. I'm done using the stock Fleetguard filters. So many times the plastic lid nearly separated from the filament when pulling it out. And then one day it did. What a mess that was. Now I use the NAPA Gold. 7 micron and heavier construction. However now I'm interested in this Baldwin 5 micron filter. Think I'll try that next. That's why I like these videos and forms. I believe most of the contaminants in the fuel system come from the filthy pump nozzle at the gas stations. Right before the tank fills and foam washes the dirt off the nozzle and into the tank I hand hold the nozzle a bit higher and make sure that doesn't happen!
The Dodge fuel filter is also a water trap. You're supposed to drain out the diesel in the filter to make sure there's no water in it before you put the new filter in. Before you try to start the engine turn the ignition key to run for a little while to fill up the filter housing. This is per my Dodge shop manual.

I’ve recently found a fuel filter that filters down to 5 micron instead of the 7 the stock fleetguard does. It’s a Baldwin, part number PF7977. I switched to it with my last filter change. Has anyone ever experienced the following issue after replacing their fuel filter: When I replaced my filter this last time I noticed quite a bit of sediment in the bowl and we decided to clean it out. We drained the bowl and had to use some suction to get all the sediment (as our hands were too big to get into the bowl to the bottom). I think this caused a problem with it staying primed. When we replaced the filter and attempted to start the vehicle, as explained it this video, it started but only ran a couple of seconds and died. I did not hear the fuel pump engage when the key was turned on. We attempted a number of times, but couldn't get it started and didn't see any fuel entering the bowl when the key was turned on. A mechanic friend said to put ATF in the bowl and reinstall the filter. This worked in priming the truck and it started up. It has been running since then, but shortly afterwards it started doing something odd. When you started the truck and left it to idle, instead of idling at about 750 RPMs it would rev up to around 1,000 RPMs, then sometimes after a few minutes it would idle back down. When in gear it would return to the 750 and move according to the speed being traveled, but whenever you would put it in park it would again rev up to around 1,000 RPMs. I've asked, but no one seems to know why it is doing this. It has over 200000 miles and I thought it would be a good time to install a complete set of injectors. After install I ran the unit up and checked for leaks, all good. I shut down and afterwards developed a no start problem. Checked lift pump operation ok. Cracked 1 3 4 injectors and found minimal pressure present. Im thinking rail relief valve issue, what are your thoughts.
Never open injection lines on a common rail. Also, when the lines are open the system will not build pressure enough to start. That being said, I would think that you have a feed tube that isn't torqued correctly. Retorque all feed tubes.

More than likely the CP3 is drawing its own fuel. I would say that even though its running fine, it probably is down on rail pressure when you load it. Address the lift pump issue for sure.
Can you explain how to change the 99 year filter. I am having problem bleeding I have cracked 3 injectors j just need instructs from the beginning like you did this video. Is that possible.
Don't you drain the fuel filter to make sure any dirty diesel gets out of the system. This way you could be washing the exterior of the filter into the canister, new filter goes in and some of the dirty fuel bypasses the filter
I would add Vaseline to the orings, and the threads. Also it’s best if you don’t touch the filter bare handed. The oils from your hand can mess with the water separating ability, use gloves.

jacob dukes not wrong that’s just your opinion
@@Brandon56784 well actually it is wrong and the science behind it proves it. The 1st thing he tells you the wrong stock filter FS19855 is 10micron and for a 00-02. In 03-07 they went to FS19856 a 7micron. But a Baldwin PF7977 5Micron both is a upgrade and a better filter according to the nerds in the big house that run these test.
The Baldwin PF7977 is the best drop in filter available. I wouldn't use anything else.
excellent tutorial thankyou
Say you change your filter and you drain all the diesel out of the canister what's typically the problem if it will not refill the canister
Good job bro
Thank you so much 😀
Id get rid of that housing all together but it has a heater to warm the fuel in the winter.
If your truck has been running fine but you don’t get fuel in the bowl when you cycle the key…what could the issue be?
More than likely the CP3 is drawing its own fuel. I would say that even though its running fine, it probably is down on rail pressure when you load it. Address the lift pump issue for sure.
FS19856 is the only filter i see on your website!
Give us a call and we can find the filter you need 1-859-737-4966.
What do I do if I can’t get the lid off? I’m turning it REALLY hard but it won’t come out and I don’t want to break it.
You will have to change the fuel filter so if you break the lid, it had to be done.
I appreciate this info 🤘
I jus spray it out with cab cleaner and valve open !

Thank you for the awesome videos!
Not seeing these on the website currently 🤔
What if I turn the key and don’t see fuel flow ? .... 😕
Check power to lift pump. If you have power and no flow, suspect restriction or bad lift pump.
@@thoroughbreddiesel I have the same problem. Do you just turn the key on to check fuel flow or do you have to bump the starter for fuel to come out?
I use a AFE 44-FF010 fuel filter. on my 2004 Cummins 5.9. Pricey ($34) , but it is rated at 3 microns, 99% efficiency.
Thank you for this! I've just had to replace my injectors and the believed cause was this truck having the 7 micron stock filters used. That isn't nearly enough filtration I was told. I almost bought a new lift pump just for the filters being 2 microns but 3 in the stock housing is great! 06 3500 with a raptor 4g lift pump, no filters.
hi i have a 06 5.9 turbo 6speed mercedes benz with 200k on it runs great but when i pull my 5th wheel its 10k its doggy going up hills what can i check first thx
