Thank you so much for this. I recently got me the same truck and I have been a bit intimidated on changing the oil. Seems simple enough. Now to figure out the fuel filters. Thank you again.
The fuel filters are not very difficult, but they can be messy. As long as you have the oil filter plug tool, the oil change is one of the easiest I have ever done on any vehicle! Thanks for watching!

Yeah, messy job and not super fun but it will save you A TON of money doing it yourself! I did mine at the recommended interval and the old one up front looked like new, so now I change them every other oil change and have had no issues (roughly 24-25k miles)
Love the handle tool, I change mine every 6k. You have to make sure to let those drain about 30 min. There gets a air bubble and it won’t drain all the way if you don’t give it the time. Baldwin and Donaldson filters are great also. Love your Reflection! Just put the banks diff cover on to help with the cooling while towing 12k up mountains. Nice job working with your son!
Good video showing how easy it is and how to save some money. I do a similar thing with mine using the Valvoline from RK. I order the filter online and then schedule an appointment with my local dealer. They change the oil and filter, using what I provided, and dispose of it all for only $15.00! It usually take them about 20 minutes to a half hour and I don't have to mess with the old oil and filter. Keep up the good work.
Paid for an oil change and like you said on video they made a mess and spilled oil all over chassis and it dripped oil for days on my drive way. Just ordered the filter plug tool from your link and plan to do it myself from now on. Thanks!
That definitely sucks! You won’t regret doing it yourself, the filter is a tad tricky to screw back on the first time since you’re working blind. Still the easiest vehicle I have ever changed the oil on! Thanks for watching!
Nice video, actually working a deal now on that same truck as a 2020. Same color. I have rented them a few times to use for pulling 30ft. TT and fell in love with it!
Have you considered a "fumoto" valve in place of the drain plug? Also, kudos for pre-filling the lube oil filter. There is no "controversy" since both Cummins and Ram service information state the filter is to be pre-filled. 👍
I had to go look up that valve...WOW! This will be added during my next oil change! I am often changing the oil in a parking lot since we travel full time in our RV. This would be a game changer for me and further reduce the chance of accidental oil spillage. Thanks for the heads up and thanks for watching!
@@JouppiOutdoors you are most welcome. I made the suggestion because it can reduce your "mandatory tool count" and reduce potential for oil on your hands.
I just did my (first) oil change on my 2013 today. No idea why one would contort through the sidewall. From the same position where you remove the pan plug.... loosen the filter and it will drop straight down... replace the same way looking (and aligning the new filter) straight up. I have one of those filter gizmos but no way I reach blindly through the sidewall or cut my wheel well guards when doing it from underneath is so straightforward and easy.
