- The #BMW2Series has been the entry level model for BMW for nearly a decade now and for 2022, the #2Series has been fully redesigned with lots of inspiration taken from the iconic 2002 from the 1970's. This #M240i has all the specs to get any enthusiast happy with a turbocharged straight 6-cylinder making nearly 400 HP and a RWD chassis. Its a small proper BMW with a design that also doesn't offend in the way that the current #BMW 4-series might.

As of now, the m240 and m340 are the absolute best performance vehicles for the cost. You can get a decent spec m340i rwd and put down some nice power. Definitely snappier cars than anything Mercedes or Audi has to offer as of now

@@captainminecraftist M240i is heavier do to it being AWD, having more tech, and back seats. Although you gotta wonder if the AWD will help it pull away from the Supra or if it'd be it's demise. Can't wait to see.

I was living in Munich and working for BMW in HQ when the the 2002 tii came out. I drove production unit #12 out of the factory! This looks like a worthy follower ....

@@TheNaveelttil how has your experience been with BMW in terms of reliability? I'm heavily considering this new 240i but I'm afraid from things I've heard about BMWs not being very reliable while also being expensive to fix.
@@BPR-IronCurtain I had a 2018 BMW 240i that I just sold a couple months ago. I had ZERO issues with it. If this new model is anything like mine was, it’ll pull like crazy on the highway. I described mine as quick and nimble.
@@BPR-IronCurtain my experience has been pretty good with my car as well. The N52 engine (the last NA Inline 6 BMW made) is pretty reliable, honestly. I don’t drive very much (5-6k miles a year), but it’s never broken down on me. There’s been preventative maintenance done, as well as small repairs, which aren’t cheap, but they’ve really only happened once in 9 years of ownership, so I can’t complain. The car isn’t perfect, but for a car that was built 11 years ago, it’s holding up very well. It’s also important to find a good dealer with a service advisor that you trust or a well-rated independent mechanic.
Personally, I think most 6-cylinder BMWs from 2009 onwards should run fine with regular maintenance. When I do decide to get a new car in the next year or two, I really have to make a touch decision because the 128i does so many things right.

Yep! I love BMW’s, and I love this. Wasn’t fond of it when k first saw pictures but it’s definitely grown on me. The only thing I don’t really like about this particular one is the color

@@subiediaries6157 really? its so hard to believe that it reminded me instantly of the fiat miata copy car and thats not exactly good looking. I will say I like the extended front end and overall side profile better and they made the hood better. The whole front looked too soft in the last gen.
@@captainminecraftist I have a F22 m240i and my friend ordered this 2022 model in white. I clowned on him endlessly but finally saw the car today. Can confirm it actually doesn't look bad at all in person.
Sounds exactly like my Supra. Looks good except the side view looks awkward with the front end being about 6 inch’s too long. Disappointed that there is no longer a manual, thought a 2 series would always have one. She's a heavy girl at almost 3900 lbs. The color is incredible. So tired of every manufacturer offering the same White, Black, Grey and Silver.
Like your Supra it has to house I6 + long hood short deck is design shorthand for performance, both were true of 1938 328. Civic weighs over 3,000 lbs., this has more bhp. & awd. so what do you expect, Lotus weighs over 3,000 lbs.
I understand but the 2016-2022 2 series housed the same engine and the length was perfect on that car.
Tho they said there gonna offer manual for the new m2 with the s58 or b58

Good review. I will say that I think you're expectations for the interior are a little off. It may not be different stylistically from the 3-series but it's still a nice improvement over the previous generation. Not to mention that it's higher quality which is the most important thing to me personally.
BMW is so gratuitously criticized that even when they improve something they still get criticized because they didn t improve in the exact way people wanted it to
my good old 2016 340i is 50000km on odometer. now making 450hp with ecu flash and few mods. Always reliable
The proportions and fender bulges are reminiscent of the E46 M3. Amazingly, my 2001 M3 cost about the same as the M240i and that was over 20 years ago! I would wait for the RWD version as it will be lighter and have better weight distribution.
Can yo do better than 50-50 for weight distribution? Like 30-30?
Or if you want good launches you could just get xdelete and then disconnect the front for no drivetrain loss. Doesnt fix the weight but thats pretty worth imo

Does it have engine idle auto-stop (does the engine turn off at red lights, etc.)? If so, can you disable it, or do you have to turn it off every time you drive with a button press? I hate that.

I have mine ordered already. 10-12 week wait. Looks great compared to a M440i for price. (I had an M440i only thing I liked more was the back taillights)
My 2021 M340 has the same thing in the trunk. That’s where the battery is stored if you have no spare. Mere mortals are not supposed to access it. 😉. It’s easiest to pop open if you have a screw driver to stick under there for leverage.

I owned a 2017 m240i convertible, I absolutely loved the car, and even after 5 years of ownership, I was kinda sad when I traded it in for a new x3 this week, I would have bought a new 2022 m240i, but the offered no convertible, and I didn't like the new interior, but I absolutely love this color, if it would have been on the x3 I would have bought it

This is exciting! That screen bezel looks like the Alfa Romeo Giulia, just not fully integrated into the dash as well.
How much more nimble or better handling is this compared to m440i?
Auto only, AWD only on the B58, and almost a 4000 lb curb weight? Yeah this thing is about as far away from a 2002 as it gets.
All the people in here gushing over its 0 - 60 times probably don't even know how to drive a manual, otherwise they would not be wetting their pants over this heavy pig of a M240i.
You do know safety is one of the biggest reasons for increase in weight. Some of yall need to go crash a 2002 car and see how the medical bills come. Always complaining

It's still near 50-50 distribution. Handling is as good as any old E46 3 Series.
The 0 - 60 is one part of the fun, but that's all it is - just a measure of how quick it can get to 60. There's still driving engagement (ie. from a good manual), sound, steering feel, agility, ability to oversteer, etc.
0 - 60 times are the sole metric of simple minded.
the interior is definitely a level up, not sure how I feel about the style of the dash though the old gauges were nice, however I feel like the exterior is a bit a downgrade stylewise even though it's more aerodynamic, the grille is definitely fugly.
I want to see a review of the m sport 4 banger as an affordable weekend car. I already have an X3 M40i.
Is there a MPPSK performance exhaust stage 2 kit available option?
I have the 2017 M240i and I am very satisfied with the car. I don't even have envy towards this car. Mine is perfect.

Agreed. The rear is looking neat. The front however.... The grill needs to be smaller and the headlights a bit larger. It would have really nice design then.

saw one in person today. overall like it. i own a 2016 m235i x drive and i love it. the new car seems much larger but its really not.
I got rid of my 2015 m235i xdrive due to the terrible understeer and, frankly, unsorted suspension. Great engine and trans, but left much to be desired in handling. I agree with the review on the interior. That's just lazy and unacceptable IMO.

You should test drive the new base 230i it’s great and also less than $40k.(without minimal options). The base car has plenty of power and handles fantastic due to its lighter and more balanced rear wheel drive chassis.
Awesome car. Great balance and feature set. However, for the price (over $50K for M240i) it needs to have ventilated seats.
You can't even get ventilated seats in the $60k M340i. It's ridiculous considering you can get ventilated seats in a $25k Hyundai lol
I think ventilated seats tends to be something very American, I have not seen a single car with ventilated seats here in Germany

I am really trying to decide in between this m2 or the 400z. It was a no brainer at first to go with the 400z as the price tag WAS 35k. Now, Nissan is stating that the BASE price is 40k. This means, the upgrade is going to be 45-50k and a NISMO at least 55k. Thus making these cars very close in price. Any thoughts?
400z-more for the enthusiast, focusing more on the sports car aspect

Kinda depends what you're into. In my case I'm cross shopping the M240i between a Supra and mustang gt. My priorities are a roll racing tunable machine, fun car for the canyons, fuel mileage, and must be a daily. So these cars fall into my priority. The question for you is what are yours?

When I look at the two cars I absolutely hate the front of the 400z. However, I absolutely hate the back of the m240i. I love the back of the 400z and love the front of the m240i. So, they are pretty even on my aesthetics list.
I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I just traded in my 2017 m240i for the 2022 and it was so worth it. They VASTLY improved the interior in every capacity. Also it’s faster, drives smoother, sounds better, and all around just perfect. Zero complaints so far. Also it’s super practical. It’s both my commuting car and what I bring to the track, and it’s incredible in both settings.
guys, i think your test model is missing the extra storage pack option and this is why the trunk floor is not opening, is the same with the new 3 series
Unfortunately the old M2 is not available to purchase on their website anymore. I've tried lol and they stop taking orders in June or July.
My daddy was the og of purple cars. Painted a 90’s honda accord purple, modded & turn it into his trophy car.
I just picked up a '16 228i convertible with x-drive. I'm struggling to find anything wrong with it. Yeah, there's no "M" in the name, but as you say...it is a "small proper BMW."

the m240i is the sweet spot
Literally the only thing that stopped me from getting a bmw is the interior styling. That’s so important to me. Hopefully when I give my new car to my wife in a couple of years, they will have a more aesthetically pleasing interior so I can grab one :)

@@treymorgan3463 Their interiors are very boring and don't use things like leather or a suede stitching material on the dash like Mazda. the plastics are soft, but built tough like any BMW, but their interiors don't feel special like my E90 LCI 323i. I jump out of a new BMW into mine and say "My BMW feels nicer than this"
Overall a great car, but they lost me as a potential customer by axing the manual transmission. Was set on ordering a new manual G42 M240i before they officially unveiled... Well, looking elsewhere now.
