As of now, the m240 and m340 are the absolute best performance vehicles for the cost. You can get a decent spec m340i rwd and put down some nice power. Definitely snappier cars than anything Mercedes or Audi has to offer as of now

@@BPR-IronCurtain I had a 2018 BMW 240i that I just sold a couple months ago. I had ZERO issues with it. If this new model is anything like mine was, it’ll pull like crazy on the highway. I described mine as quick and nimble.
@@BPR-IronCurtain my experience has been pretty good with my car as well. The N52 engine (the last NA Inline 6 BMW made) is pretty reliable, honestly. I don’t drive very much (5-6k miles a year), but it’s never broken down on me. There’s been preventative maintenance done, as well as small repairs, which aren’t cheap, but they’ve really only happened once in 9 years of ownership, so I can’t complain. The car isn’t perfect, but for a car that was built 11 years ago, it’s holding up very well. It’s also important to find a good dealer with a service advisor that you trust or a well-rated independent mechanic. Personally, I think most 6-cylinder BMWs from 2009 onwards should run fine with regular maintenance. When I do decide to get a new car in the next year or two, I really have to make a touch decision because the 128i does so many things right.
Yep! I love BMW’s, and I love this. Wasn’t fond of it when k first saw pictures but it’s definitely grown on me. The only thing I don’t really like about this particular one is the color

Sounds exactly like my Supra. Looks good except the side view looks awkward with the front end being about 6 inch’s too long. Disappointed that there is no longer a manual, thought a 2 series would always have one. She's a heavy girl at almost 3900 lbs. The color is incredible. So tired of every manufacturer offering the same White, Black, Grey and Silver.
Like your Supra it has to house I6 + long hood short deck is design shorthand for performance, both were true of 1938 328. Civic weighs over 3,000 lbs., this has more bhp. & awd. so what do you expect, Lotus weighs over 3,000 lbs.
The proportions and fender bulges are reminiscent of the E46 M3. Amazingly, my 2001 M3 cost about the same as the M240i and that was over 20 years ago! I would wait for the RWD version as it will be lighter and have better weight distribution.
Or if you want good launches you could just get xdelete and then disconnect the front for no drivetrain loss. Doesnt fix the weight but thats pretty worth imo
My 2021 M340 has the same thing in the trunk. That’s where the battery is stored if you have no spare. Mere mortals are not supposed to access it. 😉. It’s easiest to pop open if you have a screw driver to stick under there for leverage.
Good review. I will say that I think you're expectations for the interior are a little off. It may not be different stylistically from the 3-series but it's still a nice improvement over the previous generation. Not to mention that it's higher quality which is the most important thing to me personally.

I am really trying to decide in between this m2 or the 400z. It was a no brainer at first to go with the 400z as the price tag WAS 35k. Now, Nissan is stating that the BASE price is 40k. This means, the upgrade is going to be 45-50k and a NISMO at least 55k. Thus making these cars very close in price. Any thoughts?

I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I just traded in my 2017 m240i for the 2022 and it was so worth it. They VASTLY improved the interior in every capacity. Also it’s faster, drives smoother, sounds better, and all around just perfect. Zero complaints so far. Also it’s super practical. It’s both my commuting car and what I bring to the track, and it’s incredible in both settings.

Does it have engine idle auto-stop (does the engine turn off at red lights, etc.)? If so, can you disable it, or do you have to turn it off every time you drive with a button press? I hate that.
Literally the only thing that stopped me from getting a bmw is the interior styling. That’s so important to me. Hopefully when I give my new car to my wife in a couple of years, they will have a more aesthetically pleasing interior so I can grab one :)

the interior is definitely a level up, not sure how I feel about the style of the dash though the old gauges were nice, however I feel like the exterior is a bit a downgrade stylewise even though it's more aerodynamic, the grille is definitely fugly.

The 0 - 60 is one part of the fun, but that's all it is - just a measure of how quick it can get to 60. There's still driving engagement (ie. from a good manual), sound, steering feel, agility, ability to oversteer, etc. 0 - 60 times are the sole metric of simple minded.

I just picked up a '16 228i convertible with x-drive. I'm struggling to find anything wrong with it. Yeah, there's no "M" in the name, but as you say...it is a "small proper BMW."
Overall a great car, but they lost me as a potential customer by axing the manual transmission. Was set on ordering a new manual G42 M240i before they officially unveiled... Well, looking elsewhere now.

0:20 I'm certain the camera is part of it, but this angle captures how awkward the proportions of this car are, to me. Back wheels look tiny, the hood is almost as long as the roof and trunk combined, I just don't dig it as much I thought I would. Which sucks because this was going to be perfect for me and my dog. We'll just have to get an M850i I guess.

I have the 2017 M240i and I am very satisfied with the car. I don't even have envy towards this car. Mine is perfect.

You can't even get ventilated seats in the $60k M340i. It's ridiculous considering you can get ventilated seats in a $25k Hyundai lol

0:20 I'm certain the camera is part of it, but this angle captures how awkward the proportions of this car are, to me. Back wheels look tiny, the hood is almost as long as the roof and trunk combined, I just don't dig it as much I thought I would. Which sucks because this was going to be perfect for me and my dog. We'll just have to get an M850i I guess.
