I think the new 2 series in your words being "one of the best all-rounders", is exactly why it's not as good as it's predecessor. The 2 series was always meant to be a compromise of features, comfort, for a more raw and unrefined experience that's missing in a lot of modern luxury cars. The f22 was a true purist sports car, this is just a budget 4 series, and it really the bottom of the barrel when it comes to bmw performance. Basically this generations trades off what made the 2 series different from all other bmw performance models for slightly more comfort, luxury and daily-drivability. Also the exterior is just plain awful, like car designers just find it distasteful if you can say that about any car because of complete misuse of bodylines and plastics. The old 2 series was definitely one of the best looking modern bmw's; It's really a shame. Right now the 240i is just if you want a b58 car for the lowest entry price, or a indistinguishable supra in bmw clothing with 2 more seats, but also toned down. It's good at everything but that's precisely why it's a bad bmw 2 series. BMW's are "ultimate driving machine's", especially the 2 series. So stripping what made the old 2 series perfect and all the old e92 and e46 dna from it, really makes it more of an average car. It's really just lost it's personality, bmw wants it to be good at everything and it feels completely unmotivated. Like if I wanted a car that was decent at everything I'd go with a golf r or audi rs3; The thing that always differentiated bmw from audi is gone in this car. There really is little reason to pick this over an audi, the 2 series personality and raw dynamics are gone.

It’s funny how they’re trying to get us to use indicators with that ridiculous lane assist system. Turn it off, and be a BMW driver (be a hooligan on the road).
With today’s car prices a new vehicle is not feasible for the average individual. People are looking for good demo models or a low mileage 2nd car which in most cases is ideal. The ribbon on the bonnet at a dealership is overrated. By the car you want at a price you can afford with a balloon payment. Keeping up with the Jones’s will drive you to debt. Excuse the pun😂😂😂🤣🤣
I feel like this review was not done justice it was full of complains about the weight and honestly I drove the car I didn't even feel the weight it handles well and it performs I mean I think the price is fine as well looking at the fact that cars like a gti are also at the million mark surely the golf r will be above a million we can't expect bmw to sell this car for R500k today when an a45s is R1,5M
So here we have a smart dumb car that will steer you into a truck if you’re not watching the yellow line and the truck is overtaking? 1 smash and BMW will be facing huge court cases
BMW ruined the 2 Series. It was the last BMW drivers car but that is no longer. What a shame. Hated my drive in this new "2 Series". Very ugly as well. BMW now has two different 4 Series, yet both are equally ugly

I’d like to see this 240i, m2 comp and m2 drag race and a rolling race.
think i seen one m240i vs m2 comp..m240i beat the m2 off the line..but Rolling race m2 beat the m240i by maybe a half a car length
New car lacks that thing, it doesn’t have that BMW thing
I love it, Cant Justify the price and need to ask why are all of your cars GP registered when you test them?
BMW factory is at GP...Isuzu Dmax had EC registration...
Lovely straight 6 howl and then proceed to put the music louder rather than let us hear the engine...
The designs are subjective...Performance wise they far superior than their rivals...that B58 engine is a masterpiece I now understand why Toyota has it for Supra...really no need for M2, it's an all rounder it's just the price , will have to wait for depreciation to run on it ...Thanks for the review
So where’s 4 series in all this..
Ive bought 2 cars over the 1mil mark , never again . not worth the burden . besides , this is a small 2 series , for a mil ??? the world is going crazy
Wait until you see a CLA 35 base price, and what spec it has. R 1,009,893 with a bare spec.
@@trevorlbennett ridiculous 🙄
🤯 so basically the new M2 will cost Rupert money.
Maybe BMW should scrap 4 series and replace it with 2 series...seeing as they share the same platform
Overpriced unfortunately that is the case with most cars these days in SA
Finding a problem to every solution type of reporting this. Pity, as it's a great car and will one day be described as underrated by the same people who isn't warming up to it right away. How do I know? Cause it happens over and over with smaller BMWs. And, quibbling about the price makes it more a ZAR issue than a BMW issue. I'd rather have a car like this on the market than not having one at tall.
Great video production, btw.
Nothing says "I have a small Eggplant" like driving an Aubergine colored BMW with protein reduced kak brown colored leather...
Design is growing on me
@@24k__J i saw it in person. Its much bigger than before. Looks more classy with a longer wheel base
time for me to consider a merc or an audi... BMW is on some rubbish recently
No lie
Designs are subjective but on performance they far superior ...their base models on par with full fats rivals
@@nhlanhlamagagula7467 cant say i agree with you hey... base model BMWs are pure disrespect in how many features they lack and no amount of "performance can compensate for that".
a base merc or audi is better these days.. heck instead of a base BMW you can get a high end golf and be happy... BMW is a, quite ugly cash grab these days.. really no other way to put it
this is the same company that wants to charge owners a subscription fee for heated seats ffs
@@David-ej1ps not true..have you inspected the build quality of audi or merc pure plastics cannot match the build quality of bmw...
On performance the base is on par with full fat
Again looks are subjective
If you looking for executive build quality performance..bmw delivery
Disappointed by rivals c63 now is a 4 pot, rs5 on par with 340...no rivals for xdrive m3/4...CS versions are out of their leagues..
@@nhlanhlamagagula7467
RS3 : +- 1,3 mil
4.1secs 0-100km/h
M2 CS : +- 1.7mil
4.0 secs 0-100km/h
amg a45s: +- 1,3 ,il
3.9 secs 0-100km/h
so an extra 400k for what??🙄
BMW is boderline extreme with its pricing and depreciates like a sack of bad bricks.. lets not even talk about their horrendus service fees.
btw i drive one, and I am a fanboy. but they are no longer justifiably worth their price
FYI.... Its technically incorrect to refer to the units of Torque as Newtons. Yes we know that you are referring to Newton Meter's BUT Newtons is the units for Force and Newton Meter is the unit for Torque /Moment. Fantastic review though😁
I'm keeping me M2 CS forever. This new 2 series basically lost the BMW soul. I don't feel a thing seeing it.
Not even the g80 big brother.
BMW's M series are getting more and more like a GT. Too big and heavy (and did I say ugly?)
BMW has possibly got the worst design team , I don’t know what’s happening to their cars but man it’s getting uglier with every new model
I want to see a drag race against the m240i, Audi rS3 and Mercedes A45 😎
I think Carwow and other channels have the race but bear in mind m240 does not compete with RS3 or A45, the rivals are S3 and A35...M2 competes with RS3 and A45...Thanks bro
Check Carwow..
Ek wag nou nog vir vir die m3/m4 x drive video
I'm still not sold on the design of it 😂
Bro this 2series is more expensive than the latest 340i series 😭
I'm just carried away by this road you are driving at.... ❤️❤️
Where is it?
It is Franschoek Pass, about an hour outside Cape Town
@@Carscoza Wow thanks, one day when I have my own car I will go there just for fun. I'm much closer because I live in Strand/Somerset West area.
Thanks again for your reply
My dad own dis😎
front wheel drive chassis to save money yadda yadda but this one is half a bar more than the old one lol, saving money didn't really work, did it?😂
Would take this beefy engine over a merc or audi of same class, but the market in RSA is not conducive and not justified for that price now! What a wrong time 2b alive 😁😁
I have to take a pen and paper to write down the numbers,oh the Germans like to be complicated at some stage
All I see on the comments..just people like me who can't afford the car...coming with all sorts of excuses "blah blah its ugly"
That’s my exact spec. Hahaha
This car doesn’t even turn heads
Too expensive. Just no.
Heavier, more expensive and uglier "take my money" that's what bmw thought
This isn’t true at all I own a M240i 2023 and yes it does drift and mine is a drive
bmw m2 2017 is much much much better! and i have it hahaaa
Only in RSA.
The words indicator and BMW just doesn't feel right 😂
Waaaay too much!
I know the car looks ugly on camera, but trust me, it's worse in real life. It seems BMW has hired designers from the same place Ferrari's F1 team finds it's strategists.
