It looks beautiful... A lot of people been shitting on the design but to me personally it looks awesome
This is the first video that really shows this cars design lines properly. Excellent sharp camerawork. The overcast day really helped too. Nice work!
wdum it doesn't have any.
appreciated!
yeah, whenever i want to in-depth into a car's lines, interior, etc, Thomas is one of the best sources. very much in-depth. Nice guy, deserves to be at 1M subs
You leave the exact same comment on other 240i videos. “This is the first video...”🙄
I’m in the US and I’m picking my 240 up Monday. You guys do an amazing job on these reviews
When the M2 Competition Drive coming in the USA?
Hilarious how you seamlessly slipped in a "hold my beer." 😂
=)
First video of yours I have seen.. awesome review and tganks for the language lesson!
You always make the best reviews
appreciated !!
Massively entertaining review. Perfect blend of German sensibilities with English perspective. Kudos!
Welcome 🤗
Great review!
This is such a beautiful car
Great review, thanks.
Love the car, love the review but also that purple colour is actually really nice!
It’s nice to see how BMW makes its cars different each from the other, and with their own personality. You can clearly differentiate between series. Unlike other brands… Kudos BMW👌🏻 And btw, this 2-series: insane
Indeed, love or hate the design but bmw is one of the last brands that really tries things with their design, while others just copy paste their cars to fit the different segments
Great video! Hopefully BMW will listen to you regarding the steering feeling... incredible that the SUVs have better steering than the normal cars.
👌
I think this has a McPherson front
It's a subjective opinion. For me the steering is perfectly balanced in a regular 3 series.
This guy's a gentleman for cars, perfect review.
Just adorable!!!
Excellent video one more time!!!
As an 2016 F22 owner, this seems like an awesome vehicle, but the design of the previous generation 2-series seems more pleasing to the eye. The new headlights makes the car look cross eyed, and I’m not a fan of the rear either. BMW needs to make some drastic changes in their design department.
In any case, I’ve been wondering for a while what I should upgrade to. The F22 is unique-very practical, beautiful 6-cylinder engine, a joy to drive every day and not too big. I’m not sure that I would pick the RS3 over this.
Why do you need to change it? Looks much better than this heap of .., drives really well, what more do you want?
i also have a 2 series and love that car. i am not sold on the new 2 series. i've been looking at gran coupes, but the 2 GC does not totally convince me either. sorry to say, but it looks too much like a Kia. I saw an X2 on a stop light and it looked darn nice. Never seen one in the flesh before. I may go back and re-consider a used A5 Sportback.
God forbid any BMW owner goes to an Audi without warranty.
hey, same here, got a 2 series, and looking for maybe something a bit larger, was thinking of a used 4 series GC, but have also been looking at a 2017 A5 SB. it's got a nice elegant look to it. and very undercover.
@@machtschnell7452 hahaha i know, i talked to a mechanic about audis and he says be very careful....LOL. that's why i'm hesitant. like i said, i like the X2, but i'd rather stay with a low height car.
Sorry, wollte es kaum glauben in einem anderen Video, aber beim Heck sind den Jungs von BMW die Ideen ausgegangen? Hat was Suzuki Kizashi
Thanks, Thomas! Interesting to hear your comments on the steering "feel". Makes it difficult for me to ever want to give up the hydraulic assist in my '08 1er coupé 🙀 I love the steering feel and connection to the road in my older relative to this new 240i...
aye
I also have an 08 135! Year one of the one - 6spd manual with a tune and performance exhaust! Its a blast to drive. This 240i just seems too big. It lost that small car feel. I guess ill keep my 1er a little longer. Just broke 60k miles and its running like a dream!
@@spiraling6980 awesome! I had a chance to trade up to the 1M shortly after buying my 128i but didn’t 🤦🏻
Finally a normal looking grill. What was so difficult? Those corner triangle vents though. I'm on the fence there. Maybe if it was a different colour.
will mild-hybrid be available on this car (with this engine) in 2022 ?
It is very interesting if the coming M2 will have a better steering feel. This characteristic is for me the no.1 selling point and although this car seems so good I can't accept synthetic steering. I'm in the market right now and this gives a huge advantage to the RS3, which -for me- sadly is less car for more money even with it's performance edge.
If "Freiformblende" and "Schaltgasse" mark the start of the Thomas Deutschlernen Lounge, I'm totally supporting that
😂

Sir, Love the Channel, and you convinced me that this would be my Retired old Dude Car, lol. Built a Brooklyn Grey, Red interior, M240i Performance Pack, loaded. Thanks and keep reviewing cars.
😎✌️
Great review. I like the design except that 4 round headlights would be better and more in keeping with the BMW heritage.
2002 says Hello.
Fun Fact: the inner lights are almost always fake on modern BMWS. All lighting duties are performed by the outside lights, the inner just have the DRL ring.
You could say this new 2er does away with the fakery.
Great video! BMW👌🏻
That rear end kills me, what were they thinking??
The front isnt much better imo
pay more, get more nice head/taillights and other cool designs by buying higher series cars 🙂
@@scares3859 you can also pay less and get a better looking car. Don’t get me wrong, this car is great but it looks awful.
@@mendistudio like of which series?
They were thinking of matching the awful front
Hi Thomas, can you include a 0-100 time mode so we can compare? Danke…
Beautiful from the front and side
+1 .. Hilarious!! . . "Wait. . We can do better. . Hold my beer" .. Too Funny .. Autogefuhl, the pro's in automotive journalism. .. Availability of an old-sckool manual gearbox could be a hoot. .. ..A 6sp manual M240i is "2dr coupe character" in Spades. .. Hey 4dr RS3, "hold my beer" . . . . Cheers, Vail, Colorado
Looks great. But I do really miss the signature 4 headlights design. This design remind me of the Polestar front facia.
They wanted to relate it more to the classic BMW 2002, and there really is some resemblance in front and rear
@@corona407 oh whoa nice.
IMO, i struggle with the fact that although it is pleasant looking, it certainly does not follow the brand lineage. the headlights, tailights are major problems. the way the rear end seems to overhang is also not attractive to me. i'm keeping my current gen 2 series.
It's meant to hark back to the 2002 mixed with BMW's current styling.
@@patrickbateman6885 i heard that and it's a good point, but i just don't see enough clean lines to evoke the 2002 for me. that model was clean lines and this one is full of bumps and creases. the new 2 does have nice proportions, i like the long hood and the greenhouse is nice and tall. if only they could make it look more like the 2002 Hommage, wow, that would be more of my taste. i guess BMW needs to be radical.
@@patrickbateman6885 just a week with my M240 2019 and nah, it's much better looking than the new one (to me)
@@quantttum
There is absolutely nothing in BMW's portfolio right now that harkens back to 2002, so why would the 2 Series be any different?
In fact, the only cars on the market right now that "harken back to 2002" are cars in the used market from 2002
@@skfunk4550 i also have a 2 series and my neighbor has an older 1 series and those cars are a blast and are very good looking.
Will you be doing a review of the 220i M Sport? (now with OS 8)
good review
Great car in a very nice color. And great review!
Cheers!
Is the M performance package with the added carbon fiber and 20” wheels available in US?
Hideous design. Love Thomas as usual
could be worse
While I enjoy the reviews and amazing cars. I'm really here for Thomas's pop culture references 0:05 😅
=)
Had no idea my M340i had a Sprint Mode. Gotta try that ASAP
Whenever the car market comes comes back down to earth I’m buying a new car. Been planning on getting a E400 coupe, but keeping other options open, and the M240i is very intriguing
Where can I find the m performance parts? My dealership didn’t know anything about them for this car
i was looking at a M3... BUT this car has turned my head and the price helped as well
Same. I’d love a manual M3 (I’m in the US). But with the same options it is $20k more!
Really good review. I'm torn between this or the M440i, I really can't decide at the moment. I prefer the 440i's looks (I currently have a 3yr old 430d) but this is slightly cheaper plus I love that purple colour that isn't availble for the 440i. They both have that beautiful B58 engine tho!
The m240i is likely the better drivers car due to being more compact than the m440i...i also think the smaller car (240i) looks more sporty and hot
I’d go for the 2 series,I love the color as well and really enjoy the ‘urban’ look the car has to it.
for what the dealership said ( that I talk to..i can get this color and put it on the m440i
Come on, you're debating _this_ miserable-looking thing next to one of the Greatest overall saloons of all time?!
The M440i is simply a Masterpiece. I should sub to you just for merely mentioning it in praise and a purchase option!
netweed09 are you talking about the beaver?
It would be fun to have Thomas review some older models like E92 in the light of current gen vehicles. Compare performance, steering, handling, suspension, etc.
Yeah, this is so much physically like a E92, except E92 is lighter.
All Germans probably have a measuring stick, like the one Thomas uses in the videos, in their pocket. Industrious.
But the tail lamps 🙈 no way!
Don't love the design, but I would love the powertrain and driving dynamics. I would actually love the RS3 in hatch form, but of course, we don't get it in the states.
BMW car of the year I reckon. Great implementation of b58, good looks, almost supercar performance for quite a cheap deal.
Thank you for this nice review! Would you rather go for the 2 series coupe or the 4 series coupe now?
Cheers! That depends on if you want rear passengers from time to time
@@autogefuehl Haha I see, although you didn‘t seem to be that happy in the rear in both of them.
If time permits I would highly appreciate and enjoy a comparison video of the 2 and the 4 series! Since they are based on the same platform and the share the identical interior, I wonder what distinguishes them drivingwise and if there are some other little, hidden differences in the detail beside the design and the size.
By the way: Thanks for responding that often in the comment section!
I really love this car.
A good design should be the one that you fall in love with at first sight, not the one you will "get used to" or "It is growing on me". Yeah, it does look better in the real-world video but if I need to try really hard to find and convince myself that I will like the design, I'd be lying to myself. At the end of the day, you either loved it since the beginning, or you are just used to looking at it. Which IMO, totally different.
True
you could not have reproduced my thoughts better. i know how i feel when i love a car design, and that is love at first sight. i definitely may come to appreciate a car over time, but, for me, nothing beats that feeling, and that guides my purchases. i remember when i first saw a 5 series back in the 80s. when i first saw the 280Z, the MG cabrio, the VW Kombi even.
to this day, i look at a bangle 5 series and still cannot say i grew to love it, but when i look at the 5 series from the early 2000s....WOW!
the rear end of this BMW looks like a lada.
1:25 whats actually the front camber value on these M240 ?
What's to say? Probably the best video car channel.
Thanks so much!
@@autogefuehl No problem, your channel is a step above any other. I had the Scirocco R then the Golf R. Both very good cars, although the Scirocco was a little noisy. I then changed to the 240i, the other two were good, but the six cylinder BMW is so smooth, it's as if the engine has been drained of oil and been replaced with best double cream. I ordered the new 240i about three weeks ago, in Thundernight. It's due into the UK in March. I'll let you know how I get on, can't help thinking it will be brilliant.
WOW!!! P U R P L E!!!! Way to go, Autogefuhl!! 😊😊
💜💜💜💜💜
Grey car is looking really good
I wish they could do another more toned version of the non M one, 220i or something, for some sort of entry level 2 series as 1 series basically died off :(
Would go for the grey. Purple looks weird somehow
Love the review ❤️ but I don’t like the lights 😖
I feel like this car will benefit from the right colour and also every piece of M power styling, apart from that bonnet power bulge decal. It needs a bigger rear boot/trunk spoiler and wider arches. Anything to try and neutralise that styling.
I kind of chuckled thinking about this 2 series size and reflecting upon my 1st BMW bought back in 1985. That 325i was smaller than this new 2 series! Also, I wished I'd kept that model! Had I any idea just how good the build quality is/was! Sadly, I stupidly traded it in for this "new" brand from Honda named Acura? That new 2 door coupe V. my "olde" 325i? I was just too dumb the recognize! Oh well, live and learn.
Does it have less back seat room in comparison to the BMW F22 (previous model)? Can you please answer?
2,1 cm more here
Thomas risking his life in the back seat for us
love the car and color
Hi Thomas, really love your reviews!
I used to have an m240i f series that I loved.
Now I’m doubting between an m240i g42 or the m440i gran coupe. Which feels best to drive in your opinion?
Is the m240i more nimble ?
Watch the carwow m240i review. That will answer your specific question.
@@LyrionLee I’ve seen all Thomas’s videos.
What were the designers thinking ?
The front follows no clear concept where all the lines are aiming too, they seem to be randomly put together like decoration.
Round shapes everywhere and then there is this triangle element which connects to nothing.
Looks like a car designed by a committee that hid their design elements from one another.
I think BMW has nailed it with this car, I love it. Planning to order one in January 😊
Great vid as ever, Thomas. Yours are always the most detailed and factual videos
👌😎
got mines and its fast AF, youll love it
😂 nailed it? No BMW screwed another model
@@nessuno5403 well you’re obviously reading different reports to the ones I’ve seen, then! 😂
@@andrewmontague2636 I've owned and tracked real BMWs made in Germany, last being an M2 Competition. This is a sad cheapened product of Mexico and I won't comment on looks. Safe motoring.
love the Mopar shade of purple! 👍😎
Rather disturbing how bright the video displays remain as he goes through the underpass. Is there no ambient light sensor?
There's a setting to auto-adjust the brightness, but it defaults to "all on, all the time" :)
The overall shape and proportions are good but something is a bit off with the front end. Holding out hope the m2 will fix that
Love the colour, too.
Can anyone explain to me. Do those wider tires stick out a little more from the arches and hence the need for wheel arch extenders or is the tire still flush with the wheel arch and those extenders just give the appearance of wheel sticking out
yes thats mandatory by law if the tyres are wider
will you do a review of the 2024 M240i
Is that a Sinn watch, Thomas?
That's what i was waiting for. Still the coupe lover all the way, no family, passengers, just me.
How come you guys get the M badge on the side? :/
I am thinking of trading in my 2019 Golf R DSG for the 2022 M240i. I do summer and winter driving. I have an SUV for practicality so I just like an enjoyable comfortable sports car. I do a lot of 4 hour drives in the country where some of the roads are bumpy. I do love my Golf R. Would you choose to trade in the Golf R for the M240i. My local BMW dealer has 2 available.
Does anyone know the technical differences between the M Tech and the M Sport Pro Pack for the EU market? I know they both add an oil cooler and bigger brakes, but is there a difference?
Usually you can check that in the price list or if you click the information buttons in the configurator
M Sport Pro usually adds shadow line for grill etc
I've just bought one in Thundernight metallic!🥳💪
Didn’t know about sprint mode. Wonder if my G20 M340i has that?
Yes i think so
Firstly if they wanted to cut costs by using single headlamps they should stick to hexagonal shape headlamps. Secondly the taillights are bit small, rear diffuser line should be inline with rest of bumber. This exterior designer should try and use 1.8meter dummies when designing the rear and where is signature vent behind the front fenders?
A properly sized sports car. Personally this design looks more throwback, E46ish.
Sorry if I missed it, is it a mild hybrid like the 440i?
No.
amasing car
This is an utterly sexier model Splendid review
The front reminds me of the 5th generation 5 series.
Got mine in April 2023 in Thundernight with new screen (i prefer simplicity of old screen). BWM seem to forcing people to increase the likelihood of having an accident by moving their gaze to look for controls. They also ditched the hand friendly gear lever, to an annoyingly small thing, and again, requires you to look for it rather than intuitively grabbing it. Ergonomics and safety anyone? Should be an EU law to keep common controls physical (especially in sports cars) and not force a drivers gaze to look away to fiddle about. Voice controls are NOT that good or reliable to jump in with two feet. Ever seen a car reviewer being interrupted by "Hey BMW voice" mid review? That's my point right there!!
Indeed
great vid, as always, Thomas!
why do you keep comparing it to RS3? Shouldn’t it be compared to S3? RS3 is M2 territory, no?
Maybe M240 is closer in price to RS3 than S3? Not sure how much they are in Germany.
The new RS3 was recently released, that's why. And actually M240i is hp wise between S3 and RS3
@@autogefuehl thanks, makes sense. But comparison on steering feel and overall ride probably warrants a clarification that those cars are different in segments
Why does BMW not allow the US to have the Sport Seats? What the heck?
I also reviewed the BMW 2 series in my channel, and I must say its a new chapter for BMW! This car has a long reputation! But it's clear that its price is mainly for its status, badge and reputation, not for its equipment list.
Got one ☝️ amazing 🤩
That outfit is straight out of a James Bond movie. 👍👍
=)
Just ordered a 2024 M240i ,what stands out for you ? I bought it as an everyday car .
the 2 series have it own brand now! 3 variants. all diffrent by alot!
How much heavier is this car compared to the older model? BMWs of late are getting porkier.
Side views are way too bland. Rear is okay. I like the front and the wide rear end a lot. The sportiness is undeniable.
Looks better on video than in photos, but it is another BMW with superb proportions and far too busy detailing. Still love that BMW still makes a car like this.
I think it's hideous, sorry. Back to the wimpy envelope thin grilles from the Epic new and imposing vertical 4 series ones, no thanks!
These look like a squashed lizard that spent a day in the North Pole!
Great car. Thanks Thomas.
great looking bmw; a shame about the honda civic tail lights though.
Great video as always. But as a bimmer fan, it’s very sad the decadence of BMW design.
Great review, i have to say this car removed the love i had for bmw tho
