This is a Motormouth couple car review of the al-new BMW M240i 2-door performance coupe review. The M240i is 3” longer and its wheelbase is stretched by 2” compared to the outgoing model. It has a bold and sporty design with new bumpers, LED headlights, taillights, new wheel options and a solid kidney grille.It has a 3L turbocharged in-line 6 engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD. Gone is the manual transmission and convertible model for 2022. The power increases in this new model by 47 horsepower. There is also a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder RWD option, the 230i with 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. A stiffer chassis, a wider stance and improved steering give this coupe its impressive responsiveness and entertaining drive. It has standard features like M differential, M sport brakes, Aerodynamic kit, M-specific 19” wheel designs of your choice and run-flat tires. Our test model comes with some extra features like Adaptive M Suspension for $750 CAD, Shadow Line headlights $500 CAD, high gloss black trim $350 CAD and Adaptive full LED headlights which are in the Premium Enhanced Package for $5,000 CAD. As tested $68,595 CAD.
In the US, the packages and a la carte items are little bit different; you can get the Shadow line headlights and trim for $400 USD. The M240i Coupe starts at $56,950 CAD/$48,550 USD The launch colour, Thundernight Metallic, it certainly is a head turner. Let’s check out the interior and see what it has to offer. The BMW M240i has a driver focused cockpit design, the shifter, start/stop button, BMW controller, are grouped within a modern looking control panel in the centre console. The design of the interior focuses on the engaging driving experience with a cocoon like feel for the driver and passenger. The moonroof is 20% larger than the previous model and the new perforated SensaTec (leatherette) is standard with three colour options in the US, black, beige and cognac. In Canada, two options black and cognac. You can upgrade to Vernasca leather for $1,500 CAD/$1,450 USD. Standard is a black high gloss trim or you can add Tetragon for $250 CAD/$150 USD which our test model has. The BMW M240i comes standard with an 8.8” touchscreen, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, heated front sports seats, power seats with driver seat memory, heated steering wheel, a moonroof and 19” wheels. Our test model has the upgraded larger screens, a 10.25” touchscreen and a 12.3” digital driver display for $1,000 CAD/$900 USD. In the US, you’ll find these screens in the Premium package as well for $2,750 USD. The M240i has a 3L turbocharged in-line 6 engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD. Gone is the manual transmission and convertible model for 2022. This new model gets a power bump of 47 horsepower and 1 lb-ft of torque. BMW offers a warranty of 4 years or 80,000 km/50,000 miles plus no charge scheduled maintenance for 4 years.

Just went back and watched the m340i video from 2yrs ago and I have to say the show is waaaaaaaay better now with Andrea! Thanks for the great, honest review. Funny enough, I was already cross-shopping the Mustang GT, Supra and Nissan Z but there's that extra little bit of luxury and comfort that the M240i has that the others don't quite offer up.
Absolutely love mine, have owned it 7 weeks now.
No buck tooth, and all the logical controls, touch, knob, buttons. This is the best auto manufacturers. Great ride. My fav BMW
I love this car. Its small, its a coupe, its sporty yet practical, the rear seat is useable, its and automatic with awd, I just really like it and dang that color is absolutely beautiful. The styling and lights front and rear I love.

My buddy had a previous 2 series with a manual. He loooooved that car but BMW has really jacked up the price of this thing and the manual transmission is gone so he went and bought a S3 and saved quite a bit over the BMW.
I never liked the looks of the previous model, but the tweaks that BMW has done just work for me. It may be the best looking new BMW on the road.
I never liked the look of BMW all that much they werent bad but played it safe this one does stand out.
The M240i, M5C, and 8-series Coupe all look great. Everything else? Eeeeeeeh, better than Mercedes across the board but that doesn't say much.

It's too bad about the manual, but the M2 should get it.
I really liked that color when the car first launched. Now that I've seen so much of it, it has become one of those colors I like but would never own. Couldn't live with it every day. "But it looks cool on YOUR car"

I just got the new 2022 230i and it’s really nice! It has 255 hp and 295 torque with rear wheel drive. This thing is very fast and handles great, especially in corners. It’s lighter then the M240i at 3500 Lbs rather than the 3800lbs in the M240i. I have the Alpine white with cognac interior and it’s beautiful. You guys need to rest drive this when it comes to Canada. I think it’s as good or better than the M240i as a daily driver. The MSRP was about $40,000. Great value buy for BMWs

This car is a perfect compromise. Other than the Supra or the upcoming Z, this car still can fit four persons, as long as they are not taller than 5.10 in the back seats. This car in Brooklyn grey with red seats is super eye catching.
Following your review I ordered a M240i in Brooklyn Grey with Red Leather & Brake Callipers plus the M sport pac that replaces all the silver with gloss black. Pricing in Australia over AU$100k plus a 5 month wait, but I’m happy because of that special inline six in a Two series Coupe. Thanks Guys.

BMW styling, pretty much since the Bangle era, I've never really liked but one thing I can't ever dislike is how BMWs drive. They pull smooth and strong, handle great and make you inclined to get into some trouble. They are addicting cars to drive.

I think with the chip shortage the car companies can come up with solutions like buy now and the option to add the chips and features at a later date, is it possible? Andrea could gift Zach a Purple Jacket to match the sweater 😉😎

I think it is an impressive offering. I love the exterior colour. The backside does appear to be from a different auto designer than the front/side. Maybe the ‘base’ $70,100 Canadian Chevrolet Corvette should be a comparable... though I know little-to-nothing about the mid-engined Chevy. Thanks for the video.
I own a 2021 M340. I was at my dealer and he had one, so he slapped on some plates and gave me the keys and told me to have fun (I have a good relationship with my local BMW dealer). If I had to quantify the differences, I’d say that throttle response is 10-15% better, it’s about 10% more agile, the exhaust and engine note (mainly electronically controlled) is about 20% better and except for the space / practicality you don’t give up any refinement. They did some computer magic to the exhaust note, DSG like farts, and throttle response. Throttle tip in seems faster than it really is - I loved it, but I think if you put the same tune on an M340, you’d have virtually the same result. Both I and my dealer agree, some of the differences are synthetic. The nimbleness, that can’t be computer made - comes from the smaller package / wheelbase. In the end, it wasn’t enough for me to trade my m340 and my dealer told me as much when he handed me the keys. Now the new M2, that could be enticing.

Coming from an m340i I suspected there wasnt much difference. Now the m2comp is in another level for who is wanting more sportivity.

BMW has finally produced an attainable vehicle that will get me to let go of my 2003 Z4! (Even though it is a 3.0 convertible with a 6-speed manual.)
AWD & manual shift in a great car... the most frustratingly elusive combo on the planet :( This car sounds as great as it gets though - thanks for the amazing (entertaining & informative) reviews. Probably going to buy-out my 430i for now. But I see an M2series in my future.
I really like the M240i as it reminds me of an E46 M3 with the fender bulges and proportions. Personally though I prefer the M340i which gives up a bit of performance but has a more useful layout and costs about the same if sensibly equipped.
This is true...i looked at the m340i..but the hp pointed me to the m440i but the way they package the m440i..you really couldn't build it the way you wanted to..i went with the m240i cus of the color and packages

I tried the old M240 manual, didn't like it, you only get to shift twice before you break any speed limit. Ended up getting a normal Mini Cooper convertible manual, and enjoyed shifting 3 times at each of the traffic lights :) love it!
Love ❤ the review and classy couple as always. I just sold my beloved (and bulletproof reliable) 2015 Mustang GT for 20% less than what I paid new off the lot 7 years later! Crazy market in USA. Depreciation on these is a concern. How is the steering feedback compared to last gen BMWs which have been synthetic and video game like. Considering this vs Macan GTS.

I traded in my 14 E350 Wagon for a 17 230i Manual RWD and it’s genuinely one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. If this is anywhere as good to drive I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Love it still for 3 out of 4 seasons. But it’s basically useless in the winter.

I'm genuinely excited for this car, got a chance to drive a couple of 230i. Well balanced. Can't speak on the M240i. The color is reminiscent of the e34 m5 techno violet. With regards to the rear proportions, if BMWs idea is that form follows function (aero for E30 M3 homologation) , then I'm all in. I don't mind the taillamps 3D effect. I personally like what they've done with the head and tail lamps having a ying and yang effect.
I have the 2022 230i m Sport white loaded out rear wheel drive and it is awesome!! Plenty of power and well balanced.

the b48 is definitly the more agile one. But the 240i got extreme powers. Both are good cars and engines - ordered the 240i couple of weeks ago. Got a 30i now (but a g30)

I like the side view and proportions of the M240i but the headlights and taillights need revised but it’s not a deal breaker.

This new gen marks the end of enthusiasts bmw's they're all so refined now and heavy and easy to drive, why this may look good for the average person, I like a car with a little personality that I can work on. I would admire the old 2 series, along with the e92 and e46.

BMWs are great great engines fun to drive the only problem is once they're out of warranty they start breaking a little here a little there and everything cost a small fortune to fix. You can buy a 2012,
2 series BMW for less than a 2006 first edition Toyota Highlander.
Extended warranty will provide needed insurance for future breaks.

I just bought a BMW last week and wanted the adaptive cruise and the dealer told me that it wasn't available because of chip shortages. I have all the other driver assistance stuff like lane departure and auto-braking, but NOT adaptive cruise (very annoying).
I know it's a tough time right now with the chip shortage.

Finally! I’ve been waiting for this review. I have two 2 Series…es, one rear wheel drive and another in all wheel drive. The 2 Series is an underrated and often overlooked gem.
I’m waiting for the 240i to be available in rear wheel drive.

Love that thunder night metallic ! One of the best alternatives to simply calling it " Purple" I have ever seen. I say one of the best because of the first new car I ever bought. A 1994 Chevy Cavalier called "Hawaiian orchid Mediterranean". You guessed it, it was basically purple. (Dark purple/plum). Getting back to this car, I agree, this color is a great name for a band. Thunder nite Metallica, the foremost Metallica tribute band ! Don't know why they don't already offer the 230I base model in Canada. I'm here in the USA, and I will definitely go check out the base model (before I probably get something more sensible haha). Watching this video, I said "just lease it", in response to the reliability/cost of ownership question. Even before you said it yourself. BMW isn't alone with this, as this goes for every luxury car company now; especially the German imports. They want you to lease this. They basically engineer these vehicles to be leased, turned in after 3 years, then turned into CPO vehicles, so they can resell them for an inflated price. Just lease it.

Am excellent review. I have to wonder who makes the decisions about which region gets what models especially just over the border and driving on the same side of the road. Would there be issues if you purchased a manual in the US and shipped it to Canada?
Each market has its own product planners, so this was all Canada for M240i only but no convertible is Germany.
There will be no manual on the US, either, without stepping up to the M2. That being said, rumor mill says the Zupra will be receiving a manual with the B58 in 2023, and that might allow BMW to provide the same combo on the M240i without having to shoulder the cost burden alone.
I'm almost 5'10" and it fit okay behind myself when i tried it at the dealership. I think if you're much taller headroom might be a problem.

The box flares look great on this car. A much better design than the earlier version.
I ordered this car exactly as you have it but I do agree on the back looking lazy and cheapy maybe different in person.

If you're looking for a convertible, I'd get an AMG C43 Cabriolet. Pre-owned is hard to find because people keep them and for good reason; but if you find one, I recommend a test drive. You won't regret it.

Hi folks! I'm searching for better ways (cheaper) to lease this car here in Ontario and learned about the calculator for Money Factor, Capitalization Cost, etc... if you know what I'm talking about, do you know if the "residual value" in US is the same for Canada?

I saw the M240i in the flesh with the new Brooklyn grey colour and it looks fantastic from all angles including the butt.
I saw one in this colour as we were returning our test model and I just love it.

The back is also a touch too long, it’s awkward looking. I’d like to see the rear shortened by like 2” and turned into a fastback / coupe profile from the side.
I have a 2010 3.5 Z4 twin-turbo inline 6 with a DCT. The M2 has nothing I don't
I got 400 HP and 421 FP incl. Carplay Yes It is more modern but that's it. and iI got a Hard top convertible. Why would I change over?
