I’ve seen MP with NMB, watched him play on Petrucci’s recent solo tour, and he’s touring with The Winery Dogs in 2023. Some are talking like he’s dead. I get that you miss him in DT, but he’s doing more now than when he was in DT. So go see him. Also, I’ve seen DT three times with MM. He’s done a very good job resuming drumming duties after MP and accepting the invitation into an unenviable situation. I’d say it takes a lot of courage and pretty thick skin to do what MM has done.
I certainly prefer that version to the really stupidly complex reality. Although you're certainly right about the vast majority of that it is just over simplified
@@ekokodok4818 the drum is too technical and tight. From my perspective of being a drummer, you can't really relax a bit and enjoy while you're playing a complex and tight drum.

due to the mirror, he can observe the video animations on the big LED screen behind him, to make sure, everything is ok ... mike portnoy was responsible for all sort of things around a concert
Such a joy to watch. I never get tired of this performance. Excellent song with a roller coaster of emotions. The final section so dramatic with great drumming energy.
Neal Peart blazed the way...but Mr. Portnoy is the current king of skins...playing from no other drummer can match his taste, selection and coordination...he is a phenom...untouchable...Sir Portnoy!
Mike Portnoy drummer kesukaan ku..
In 2012 my town was hit by a massive F5 tornado and although I know the song is based on the 911 attacks, a good chunk of my town was destroyed. I remember leaving my shelter to see debree everywhere and not even knowing who was alive and who wasn't. Quite a feeling for good o 12 year old me. The solo on 6:20 really brings me back to that place and man does it give me chills. So simple, yet so powerful
The drums from 9:20 on are insane. So powerful and played with such showmanship. I don't care how many polyrhythms and paradiddles professor Mangini can play he can't match the cymbal work of probably and he belongs in a classroom not on stage. Dude can't even sing backup vocals.
he asked one year after his departure to come back but DT had already hired mangini who had to leave his profession as a teacher. The lawyers refused portnoy’s return to the group
How many people recognize the white noise sounds in between the Television announcer's talking points was what you used to get when you changed the TV channel, back in the day before cable when you only had 3 channels VHF and maybe a couple UHF?
What is that business going on at 7:58 between Mike and his tech? Is that "Best Grip Ever" spray? Secondly, I see Mike has a full-on camera pointing straight at him but he also has a concave mirror and a bunch of stuff right above that mirror...vanity break? :)
I don't know about the "Best Grips Ever" spray, but the camera is only for videos like this, and perhaps for his own evaluation on his drumming/technique. The mirror is actually there so he can see the conductor of the orchestra behind the band. I think I read that somewhere a few years ago. (The stuff right above the mirror is the stand for the mirror I guess). Or it's a vanity break hahaha:P
+Javier Serrano It's basically water, for him to have better grip, he says his hands get really dry on a Drumcam commentary. The camera is for recording his performance, and the mirror is to look at the screen behind him, as well as the orchestra.
Why does Portnoy hold the sticks from their edge? How does he bounce them while holding like that? Moreover, it should create a lot of stress on his wrists.
To me they still are the best progressive metal band of all time... But to me Mike Portnoy is the best drummer of all times. We D. T. fans miss him.
Duh!!!! Lol 😆..MP 4vr MM 4nw. No really I've enjoyed their entire career discography
True. But I also love MM. so thankful of DT always.
We all miss him so much.

@@Toddzilla1967 I agree my friend.👍⚓💪
I was AT this concert and GLAD I was... the BEST live concert I've ever seen
Holy shit. Awesome dude. One of their best.
Now this is what drums sound like! Damn his snare is legendary. That perfect crack.
Perfect Crack was my dancing name to pay for college
@@TillyP Do you know if he is using the 12x5.5 at the beginning (on the smaller kit)? It has the perfect tightness and crack!
He plays with such joy... I can only imagine how hard it must have been for him to leave DT like that. DT was his greatest masterpiece.
I certainly prefer that version to the really stupidly complex reality. Although you're certainly right about the vast majority of that it is just over simplified
He needed a break.. His body needed a break... DT and the record label wouldn't give it to him.
Hes back 🥲
The best song on Octavarium IMO
Its hard not to watch this, smile and want to do something with that passion. Just enjoy life to that level. Its wonderful.
Still one of the greatest live concerts of my life.
I look forward to repeating the experience in 2024 now that he is back
6:26 he looks like he is enjoying that part so much that he makes it even more epic
One of my favorite parts!
Mike Mangini can't be this enjoying
@@ekokodok4818 the drum is too technical and tight. From my perspective of being a drummer, you can't really relax a bit and enjoy while you're playing a complex and tight drum.
Thank you Mike. Only smiles while watching you play.
That Choke-Spin-Hit @6:39 was incredible. I Love Mangini but something is really charasmatic and fascinating about Portnoys drumming.
I think this video shows the main difference between MP and MM. MM is superb but he is like a robot playing flawlessly. lol

Unequaled musicianship
Score is my favorite DT live album/home video - it's the Mike Portnoy era at their absolute peak - everyone is perfect in this.
Budokan was better in my opinion... Perfect TrackList.....
this song is soo great ... miss MP in DT ...

i've heard it was so that he could cue the band in with the orchestra
Welcome back to DT❤❤❤ MP!!!!!!

Mr Pornoy, is a Beast period. What a monumental performance. In every song
He becomes part of the Kit not just a drumer. WOW !!! 👍👍👍👍👍
No words! Just watch and smile!
He has such a fun doing his little tricks and yet being so steady as clockwork!!! Amazingly awesome!!!!

He even keeps a steady beat chewing his gum! Lol! Mike is a true genius! Thanks for this!

A little one, and a big one.

Nice
I like the sound of the 4 octoban and the central drums. In addition, we already know about his Groove technique.

100 percent no the same anymore
He makes that ending look so easy...
"This video uploaded on for fun and not for earning money." as the advert plays
Jast love u bosss
What concert is this? Seems to be flawless. I love LaBrie’s vocal here . Portnoy is always the master of Drums.
It is Score. There is a DVD.
The toms and double snare "crack" at 7:40-ish... I'm not a drummer... but wow...
The man really love beating those drums isn't he. 😁
He always finds time to fix his glasses!
That's no drumset, it's a space station
MP!!!
6:40 ~ 6:42 EPIC MIKE PORTNOY

What happened at 3:00? You could hear him singing but he wasn't singing into the mic. An error in the video or something?

best song from Dream Theater

Danny Carey from Tool does the same thing. I think is has to do with way the stick is balanced weight wise.
