Actually, he had this mirror put in to keep an eye on the conductor of the orchestra behind him. After this show however, he kept it to help him monitor the video feeds/cues during the show, as when he was in the band this was something he took care of.
His kits are absolute rock perfection. Every cymbal, kick, tom and snare. Just amazing. I hate manginis 80’s sounding brilliant zildjians. Horrible for DT. No crack or punch in the drums at all.
Not Portnoy is what stones me in this video, but the professionality of his team.. the audio, the lighting, the techs, and the attention and care they watch out for each other.
The flawlessness playing is just mesmerizing. He has no equal in that regard , in my humble estimation. Kudos always to you Mr. Pornoy. To me you are the Best👍👍👍👍👍
Some people really like to point out the mistakes made by the players. I actually like seeing mistakes here and there; they remind me that the music could all fall apart at any moment and that it takes talent and persistence to keep it together. I want to be reminded that DT, in all their glory, were not robots or windup dolls. They are fallible and that makes it even more exciting when they DO keep it together.
Rip dream theater :( this was truly a masterpiece and their best song.. Portnoy is greatly missed. This song and others can not be replicated by any other drummer
@@albertorochareyes2427 you can do that with any other drummer as well with exception of Thomas Lang. Replicating is easy, bring the creator = that’s a different beast. You’re clearly a notice at best if you’re even a drummer lol

Portnoy must use a wheelbarrow to get around, to carry his huge balls. What a stud. Nobody is playing like this right now except him. And we all used to say the same thing about, Rich, Bonham, Aldridge, and Peart...who is after Portnoy?...they are probably coloring with their Crayolas right now...
That "edge" Dream Theater had is no more. As a band they most definitely had a swagger about them. You cant compare what we would be saying if Mangini began with Dream Theater, but from this point the band was a special unit for. Portnoy was such fanatic of drumming. Fun to watch
makes me miss my tama drum kit... i gave it away before i left for florida to become a marine biologist and learn about nature & stuff ... sure enough, i am so envious of Mike right now... i wish could play drums again ....oh well not for me .... i will just vicariously enjoy Mike jamming for now
True, but "Take Away My Pain" is about Petrucci's dad's death, which is a personal song he would of loved to be on the album. But I get where your coming from. I would of loved to see "Raise The Knife" on FII. Portnoy's lyrics are always great.
Mike Mangini cant even touch this song.. DT when down the drain hard after on the backs of angels.. Portnoy is dearly missed and was the brains behind DT.

DT will always be my favorite progressive metal group. However, creative differences and knocking heads are as old as time itself. Mike did what he felt he needed to do, and would most likely do it again. Knowing Mike, John, and Jordan professionally, I would give educated speculation that after things quietly 'blew up' between them, there was no going back. Mike would have been at home with a change into AX7, but it was not to be, much to his surprise. Mike's working with Derek again right now.
In retrospect, a Falling Into Infinity with "Raise The Knife", "Speak To Me" & the original demo version of "You *Or* Me" and without (fill in your own pick, but I could do without "Just Let Me Breathe" & "Take Away My Pain") would have been MUCH more widely received by the fanbase at the time.
J Lama it’s a reference to the show Lost. Mike was a huge fan of it. The Octavarium octagon symbol is similar to the Dharma Initiative symbol used in Lost. The numbers are used in the show 4 8 15 16 23 42

God I miss this drum sound! Even though I love Mangini a part of me will always miss Portnoy!
Erik B Larsson nothing like the original member's.

Hater.
Its not just the drumsound dude. MP wrote most of the songs and the music
Give me MP's drum sound ANYTIME, sadly its what's missing from DT.
I can't believe they never released this song. It's one of my favorites :(

I genuinely love the snare sound from 10:55 til the end. So much punch and such a deep and full sound. That's what I call a properly tuned snare.
Without Mr. Portnoy DT has no soul!!!
One of DT's the coolest drum songs
Such an incredibly talented, musical drummer. One of a kind, MP is.
1:55 -- ah yes, the Poland Spring fill. Very difficult, very rare.
The song has lot of good fills, but there is nothing difficult or rare in 1:55.
@@DcCoO I was just goofin man!
This song has so much balls to it. I wish it made it on the album -,-
This is the exact crispy sound of how a snare should be tuned. And overall great performance.
Yes! That is one of my pet peeves. The snare should not sound like a cardboard box! You nailed it.
Oh man I forgot how much i miss him in Dream Theater. He was (is) SO GOOD!
this is damn creative...beautiful fills..and all the things he does to spice up..all..i mean aah...mikeeee
no one can replace you.. master

one of my favourite DT songs. Always loved Mike's drumming.
Was there for this show ... never forget how awesome it was ! Mike , thanks for all you do !
I know this is a drum cam but James sounded pretty great here.
Best port boy performance ever was this tour
Mike only had to correct his eyeglasses 27 times during the song.

Mike is still #1. He always will!!
My favourite song. No idea how it didn't even make it to album.
hiurro they had issues with the new management at their record label at the time. The whole album was rewritten and the band almost broke up
DT died with having portnoy let go!

energy , power, and soul

I think the mirror was for keeping an eye on the conductor, as this was from the Score concert...
true spirit of DT!

You don't even know what you are talking about , m8.
Se fue Portnoy y dream theater perdió su corazón en la banda.
Have I thanked you for your time?
Or will your life go unrewarded
Again?
Never asking for a dime
You just gave all of yourself
Until I turned my back on you
My friend
The powers that be made you a martyr
Conspiracy led you to slaughter
I tried to control it but as soon as I showed it
I was shot down again
Once again outnumbered
Appreciation slumbered
You can ask yourself why
But that look in your eye
Doesn't pass the test
You've been laid to rest my friend
Again
Tortured artist bears his soul
Seems the pressure took its toll
Lived a life so punishing
Now he keeps the publishing
Spilling your guts out to a pad and pen
Communication to your silent friend
Raising the knife
To a picture of a life
(I once knew)
There comes a time
Compromising my life
(Just won't do)
I cannot lie
I can't try anymore
(To reach you)
I just can't fight
Raise the knife
Raise the knife
Cut through
I remember once you were the quiet type
Content to sit and watch the motions of your life
With false sensitivity
You cut yourself open so people would adore you
They all bought into your contrived sincerity
And how you wore your heart and soul right on your sleeve
Laughing sarcastically
You turned your back on the people who adored you
Self-absorbed exhaustion
Self-esteem distortion
Self-infused extortion
Self-serving abortion
I'll take the blame for these things that I say
'Cause I had the heart and the will and the courage to stay
Every day
I won't walk away
Reading through all the digests you show me
I notice the way that you think you control me
Doubting my future, you don't even know me
But I never walked out on you
after a 2 minute jam, "now that we've proved THAT point, we should probably give Labrie something to do..."
Omg….. it’s so different….
It’s incomparable…. Bananas and apples….
