I was watching an old Bill Dance outdoors where he was fishing frogs, he said to wait till you feel the weight of the fish before you set the hook. That really helped me to not be to early.
I have followed that same idea for years, very effective, but sometimes it is hard to do. Love Bill Dance just wish I could remember half of what he passed on.
This is my 2nd year fishing and watching you I've only put a Lil time in on the frog but I think you just helped a ton thanks. Like ur new channel too!
Great hacks on this one. I sent the link to my brother, he's constantly frustrated with frog bites and blowups to hook up ratio. I hoard and fish the old Strike King Grass Frog a lot and use the countdown to get more hook ups. Like the boil method we'll use the same pot my wife uses to melt old candles down!
Spent the last 3 days watching videos on frog fishing trying to figure out a good setup. Low and behold you post this. Are you in my browsers history (I'm sorry if you are). Great video.
Great tips. Paint a bull's-eye on the bottom of that frog. One day I did the same thing frog fishing the only difference was by the time I counted to 3. 5 of the 9 bass that day had spit my frog. It was so frustrating. Sometimes i count other times just set. Great video!
I found a way to make Spro frogs softer if boiling them doesn’t work as well as you want, I go through the bottom where the weight is and shave thin layers of the plastic from inside the back of the frog until you get the desired softness but be careful not to punch a hole or the frog is ruined, I have a small tool I made like a tiny hook knife like used for making wooden cups and just remove small amounts until you’re happy with it afterwards super glue the weight back in

Question about tip #3. Would trimming the legs a little encourage the fish to bite more of the frog? Bottom line, is the length of those legs terribly important?
Great video again Tyler! I haven't thrown a frog in a while and will have to go back to it to try some of your hacks. I fish poppers often so was cool to see that at the end. Thanks!
I’ve only fished a frog a couple of times. Have not caught a Bass on a frog yet, but I am confident that will change. Once it warms up for good here in Ky, I will have a frog with me every time I go out.
Enjoyed your video brought me back to about 25 years ago. I went to my father in laws buddies who had 3 lakes in middle GA. 2 small then a large one. I caught the most Largemouth bass in 3 days in my whole life. I got my PB 8.5 on a live bream. Threw it out in the middle of the lake and forgot about till my friend told me that I better start reeling my line in and caught her ..long story short, I fished a spook most of the days that I was down there. I can't tell you how many I caught, but it was the most Bass I have ever caught in 3 days. Long comment but I thank you for your great videos. David

Idk what a fast action would do for you frog fishing, thats just odd. Straight braid on a 7'+ broomstick is the remedy. Nothing but backbone hookset. Anybody fishing frogs on mono is simply doing it wrong. Wait 3 seconds and swing to the SIDE, not up. I miss zero fish. Little guys get ripped out of the water for a second.😆 Think about it, you have to squash that frog body down and expose those hooks to catch something. That requires a hard, fast, explosive yank with immediate impact to the frog and the fish's mouth. Mono will just stretch, delay and weaken your hookset.
Frog fishing is one of the most fun ways to catch bass or pike. It can be frustrating but once you get your timing right it will be very productive. I use a multiple of different frog styles.
Tyler, thank you for the content. I really enjoy you channel. I absolutely loved the boiling tip I can't wait to get home from work to cook me up some frogs... lol. Thank you sir!
Great tips. Had to laugh @ last hack, but it’s so true. I love topwater action. What a blast. Walking baits, Poppers, Buzz-baits, Wake Baits, Ploppers, Devil’s Horse, Jitterbugs. My PB came on a buzz-bait. I’m trying glide baits now seeking big girls.! Thanks for an excellent tutorial!
I just missed 4 topwater bites pulling it out on the hook set. I was using a swivel snap because I’m lazy and I think that was messing me up so I retied without it but I didn’t get a bite after 🙃
I am with you on the being lazy thing... I often run a swivel with a small tactical angler style clip and have found it actually helps me land more fish. I can swap lures quickly which allows me to spend more time fishing than retying different baits when I'm trying to get dialed in on what the fish are responding best to. I fish alotta spots that also hold toothy predators like, bowfin, snakehead, and pickerel. I know for a fact that I've landed more fish and saved myself from losing many lures by having the benefit of that metal swivel clip bite off protection... Just keep in mind that it can have an effect on the action of some baits, but as long as you keep things scaled down in proportion with the bait you're throwing, it won't be much of an issue. You obviously don't want to use a large swivel and clip when throwing a lighter / smaller or popping frog for just that reason. At any rate, I would just say don't waste time worrying too much about what could have happened and just fish with confidence knowing what CAN happen. Just keep on fishin... A lure isn't gonna catch many fish if it's not in the water.
Good info, Brother! Just a couple of things that I do with my frogs. I usually boil them twice. Boil once, let it set til cooled, boil it again. The other thing is that when I open a frog I will take some pliers and adjust the hooks to where they are parallel with the body and point them up about 1/8 inch.
I want my frogs to be able to do what they're intended to and that's throw them up into any awful mess of weeds or sticks that I can find and bending those hooks up or off of the body ruins that capability. I've tried it.
I fish snakehead as well on a frog and holding off the hookset for a second or 2 really does help with hookups and I always bend my hooks up and out, no matter how soft or hard the body is. Hookup ratio has been 99%.
Sup Tyler. Great video and tips. I think I have every type of frog. One I haven't used yet because of surgery, bad year. Ever see a frog with a whopper plopper tail from MB. The powder is awesome idea when leave in truck especially! Boiling is cool. Have to find those trailer hooks for certain frogs especially. Can I add copper bbq to frog? Ever see the frog with whopper plopper tail from MB? Can't remember name? Ty tc.
I’d like to know why frogs don’t come with silicone legs instead of rubber. Some do but very few. Silicone never melts like the rubber skirts and works exactly the same in my opinion. That’s my biggest pet peeve in the world. You can own a jig for 10 years and it won’t melt, but frog legs might melt in a few months.
I wonder how those skirts would hold up to huge hooksets when they just had the legs though. I feel more comfortable tugging on living rubber than I do silicone. Also rubber floats better that silicone- if the legs started to sink on you, probably would have even more "only leg" hits than we already do with the rubber.
@@Psykout maybe, but I’ve yet to have any problems with silicone legs before. I’ve had to replace several frog legs before with silicone. Also Some frogs already come With silicone legs, but just not the frogs I like. I’m very picky when it comes to frogs. It drives me nuts.
Anybody remember the old weight trick when these came out? Wrapping solder around the hook inside the body? I used to put a small cut in the legs of Snagproof frog and inserted bbs to weight them down a bit
I occasionally put Bass Pro Shops round rattles in my frogs. They are in constant motion even when the frog is not moving. I think the sound with no motion makes them very agitated.
I only ever fish Spro Frogs. I never ever do anything to them. I fish them put the box. I never lose fish on them. The only thing i do sometimes is trim the legs. I dont get why guys always bend the hooks etc. Some poor guy spent hours designing his frog.. for me its not broke so dont fix it. Love the baby powder tip!
yeah but Tyler , what if i want to strictly use the weighted frog for bottom fishing on a Texas Rig??? that i wanna drag on the bottom in open water or not on a texas rig at night what'll happen then in that situation.
An old trick I saw when these and the snag proof were all the rage...experiment with different gauge solder wrapped around the hook inside the frog. Easy to apply and remove
This was a very informative video. How much baby powder do you put in each frog slot? Also, if the legs are already "deformed" and you put the baby powder on the frog, will the legs become "like new" or will they stay wrinkly and deformed?

100% on #4. Wish I had saved the video, but it showed how when they hit the frog at first they are pulling it under then eating it, or even just trying to stun it before eating. I also feel like because of the soft body, they are less likely to spit it out and will really try and eat it, kind of like how weightless soft plastics they really chomp on. Edit: I found the video - actually has a 2000FPS slow mo of a bass hitting a frog in tank so you can see everything PERFECTLY. Not sure if throwing links to other youtube stuff is what you are wanting here though... It's immaculate footage.
