I got the 7’4” Vendetta as a gift. I was using it as a jig rod. Now I’ve put a 7.3:1 reel on it with braid and it’s become my frog rod. Thanks for mentioning that rod.
Frogs were my first favorite bait. They reminded me how fun it is to catch bass as an adult when I got back into it. At that point about 4 years ago I had one setup with a frog tied on going into fall and did well. Then branched out from there to make sure I get bit every trip. Now my wife says I have to much but I look at it like, on a good day I have just enough. Lol
Buddy - honestly, this video is exactly that what other Pros dont do! Just perfect, i hope you make some more of them in the future! Best regards from Germany :-) Toni
Good video. I frog fish all year here in Florida and I agree 100% that you need a softer tip rod. Helps with accuracy casting and allows fish to get it a little better. Love the channel keep the vids coming. Would love to see a video on rigging your top set ups. Ie drop shot, leader length.
Great video, I fish Canyon lake Ca and recently got it into my head I need to learn how to use the Frog.. I have got lucky with a small pad crashed and a larger pad popper. I think all were lucky and enough to get me hooked... Struggling big time getting the walking action..I fish out of a hobie outback kayak.. Going to try going to 50lb braid instead of 30 and cutting the legs at an angle you showed .... Great video thank you
Really nice set up for the frog. I also use the spider wire braid in 50 lb, never had an issue with it. Who does not love fishing a frog or any topwater for that matter.
Awesome video man. Thanks for all the information. Fishing my first BFL next weekend and I'm gonna be using my heavy rod and braid. Might even bend my hooks out a little bit.
Open water frogging can be some of the best because it’s probably not something they see a lot of especially putting it in hard to reach places and walking it out around wood cover, cut banks, shade lines etc. Pit it in your hand one evening and hang on!
Thanks for the awesome video! I'm actually going frog fishin this weekend next to lake Erie in a marsh. Throwin frogs and only frogs from the kayak lol should be interesting
I used a MH for a while with 40lb braid for a while with no problems, but there was some cover I would not throw in. I just ordered the Daiwa Tatula Frog rod (I hear the Irod Genesis II Fred's Magic stick is also great) which should be great for landing a big one that is doing figure 8s between all sorts of weeds and I have to pull all of that stuff up with it. However, a normal heavy rod like the Tatula jig rod I was using last year or the Abu Garcia Fantasista 7'3" heavy will also work well for jigs where the frog rod is a little bit too overkill for jigs.
Always my favorite types of videos! I real in depth look at each of the aspects for a successful setup!... Just a quick question tho hunter, what style glasses you running in this video? Costas? Look pretty sharp!
Thanks Curtis and glad you like the video! I’m going to do more here especially since everyone likes them! Yes, they are Costas. I don’t know the style but im sure they would be pretty easy to look up👍👊👊
Nice video sir, can you tell me what lure weight is written in your rod. For example I have Abu Garcia SeaCaster casting rod and it's lure weight is 10g to 35g. So what do you suggest. Plz respond, from India
I like these types of videos from you guys. I really think it helps us little guys out. Still can’t believe you only have 21k subs. Should be a lot more than that!
I’m going to keep doing these in the near future for sure! They’re a little quicker to make and if you guys like them I’ll keep doing them! As for the subscribers, we’re working on it lol. Like, Share and Comment are the best ways to help get there so Thank You!!
Absolutely! in fact a medium heavy rod would give you better casting accuracy and be more parabolic which helps keep the fish hooked up when reeling them in.
Hey man great video. To the point and tons of really good info! Video quality is great as well. Thank you for sharing. I am considering picking up a Dobyns Fury frog rod. However, they offer a 7' 3" Heavy Fast action and a 7' 3" Xtra Heavy Fast Action. Which would you recommend?
Thanks for the comment man! Without ever picking one up it’s hard for me to say. Keep in mind having a little bit of tip to your rod with a heavy back bone- that being said id lean towards the heavy but you’ll know when you compare them in your hands👍👍
I dont have a lots of money, but my father gave me some rod and reels. How is the shimano beastmaster ex 6.9 feet heavy paried with a shimano curado 201 xgk or 151 bantam mgl.
It allows the frog to “walk” side to side better when the legs are shorter. It’s a personal preference of mine and many others. I also know ppl who leave them long right out of the package. Another thing to think about is when the legs are shorter, the frog is more compact, allowing the fish to inhale it better without the legs hindering the initial blowup.
Roughly 1.5inches is what I normally do. Anywhere from 1”-2” is a good length. And if you mess them up, you can replace your legs so don’t throw your frog away! 👍
A lot! Lol the trick is being nimble and not really putting all of your weight on it. Usually once you step on one it’ll ruin the rod but I haven’t broke any this year!

Enjoyed I did! I'm 69 and recently caught my fist Frog fish. Amazing fun! Thanks for sharing information to help an old dog learn a new trick.
Love it!! Keep up the good work!! 👍👍

Probably the best video on Frogging I've seen on YT. Thanks for this!

Great advice. Getting back into fishing after many years away. Didn’t realize how much I missed it.
Thanks Hunter. I will definately try out the double palomar knot for my frogs. I like to throw the Booyah Pad Crasher and Jr crasher.

That’s sweet man! Hope to see you at my home lake Fort Gibson next season!
No doubt, Gibson is a fun lake!!
Do you spool the braid directly onto the reel or do you use a leader?
Awesome video man. Thanks for all the information. Fishing my first BFL next weekend and I'm gonna be using my heavy rod and braid. Might even bend my hooks out a little bit.
Good luck man!! 👍👊👊👊
Love all your videos really cool knowing your setup and thanks for the tips
Going to continue to do some more setup/ tackle stuff so stay tuned 👍👍
Awesome tips man. Not a lot of frog opportunities on my lakes but I've been wanting to toss them around laydowns just to see If I can call some up.
Open water frogging can be some of the best because it’s probably not something they see a lot of especially putting it in hard to reach places and walking it out around wood cover, cut banks, shade lines etc. Pit it in your hand one evening and hang on!
Will do and great tip thanks!
Awesome tutorial.
Boomer trying to learn to fish better.
Bought a Vendetta last week...trying to learn to cast a frog over 15 yards!
Straight to the point. Great video 🤘🏼
I tried to keep it as short as possible lol thanks!

Thanks hunter love following you man. your def one of my favorites!
Well I appreciate you following me!!
7.3 hevey power rose wuith fast taper works forme for years and daiwa tatula type r 8.1 perfect combo used for heavy jiggs
the vendetta is a beast at its price point!
That’s why I used it! 🙌👍👍
I just, started my frog lure collection. I am addicted to frog bites
Thanks for the awesome video! I'm actually going frog fishin this weekend next to lake Erie in a marsh. Throwin frogs and only frogs from the kayak lol should be interesting
Better hang on! I've heard those places are loaded!!
Dude it's a blast, my buddy got a 35 inch pike there last year it pulled him all over that place lol
🤣that’s a biggin!!
Very informative. I now have 3 medium heavies and I use those for froggin... time for a heavy rod lol
Awesome! God you could put it to use!!
I used a MH for a while with 40lb braid for a while with no problems, but there was some cover I would not throw in. @@shred5 I have the Fred's Magic and fie the pricepoint..it is Ultimate
Beginner fisher here thanks for the info 😁👍👍
Great info I learned a lot
Good video great info and now I need to catch one on a frog
The heat of the summer into the fall is the time to be throwing it!👍👊👊
@@HunterShryockFishing oh yeah
Do you tie the braid directly to the frog? And what other baits do you use on the heavy rod?
Good vid thanks for the tips and recommendations
Thanks for watching and commenting!!

Thanks Matt!
Dude please check FB msgs 😢
Great video. Awesome job. What's going to be the difference in the ALX and ALF reels?
Thanks! There wasn’t a lot changed besides some very minor things and adding the cosmetic red trim on it 👍👍
Good info! Thanks, wondering how many rods/ reels your have stepped on while walking back on a hook set? lol
Nice video sir, can you tell me what lure weight is written in your rod. For example I have Abu Garcia SeaCaster casting rod and it's lure weight is 10g to 35g. So what do you suggest. Plz respond, from India

Hunter Shryock Fishing yes sir 👍.
good vid, helpful
When I first used spiderweb I hated it but now that it's been on the reel for 2 years it's money
Quit question do you think it would be okay to use a medium rod for no vegetation
Absolutely! in fact a medium heavy rod would give you better casting accuracy and be more parabolic which helps keep the fish hooked up when reeling them in.
Do you use certain frog colors for certain sunlight or water clarity conditions?
Moved up from the ol Vendetta!
Yes I did but I still have two that I carry with me everywhere I go!! 👍👍
What pound test would you use with Texas rigs and jigs ?
Hey Hunter have you ever used a popin scum frog, my buddy has out fished me countless times throwing one.
I use popping frogs - from the same manufactures of the ones I showed in this video. They prevail in certain situations!

I have the Fury 7'3 heavy. Works great for frog fishing.
I dont have a lots of money, but my father gave me some rod and reels. How is the shimano beastmaster ex 6.9 feet heavy paried with a shimano curado 201 xgk or 151 bantam mgl.
Could I use a 7,3 medium heavy as a frog rod
Is 7’0 medium heavy fine also?
what would be a good setup for a spinning rod fisherman
Yes I do like that video
Why does Hunter trim frog's legs like that (so short)? Why do they come in the package with 4 inch long legs? Can anybody explain please!
Basically you saying - one inch is that ideal length should be. I'll try to shorten legs of some of my frogs. Thank you!
Roughly 1.5inches is what I normally do. Anywhere from 1”-2” is a good length. And if you mess them up, you can replace your legs so don’t throw your frog away! 👍
Great! Thank you for those valuable tips!
San Diego jam
Good
thank you!! great video very informative
Thanks for the comment! I Definitely need to do some more of these.
10 pounds of grass, gives new meaning to fish-holding. Lol
What I really want to know is, how many times have you stepped on a rod when doing your smack daddy walking hook set?! Lol
A lot! Lol the trick is being nimble and not really putting all of your weight on it. Usually once you step on one it’ll ruin the rod but I haven’t broke any this year!
Can I call dibs on the next broken one? If you could sign it somehow and I'll pay the shipping! Or maybe sign a picture or idk what lol.
HAHAH I'll be doing a giveaway soon that's way better than that! LOL Stay tuned!!
Great tips
mmmmmm Frog violence!!!!
🤣🤣🐸👍👍

Me buys a 7’3 heavy vendetta thinking it will be good then I see this video 😅
