Love fishing Keitechs on Lake Erie...one of the most effective swim baits I've used...they do catch just about everything (Walleye, Bass, Drum, you name it). I avoid rod-jerk hook sets whenever using jigs in most cases. When I feel the fish on, I crank the reel a bit faster at first to set the hook, then keep the line tight afterward. I've rarely lost a fish using this method on a jig/swimbait combo.
A nice trick with the steady retrieve (spinning reel only) is to stick your pointer finger out so the line hits it every time the bail comes around. That adds a nice bit of subtle action to the swimbait. Tight lines 🎣🤙🏾
Hey dude great video. I fish this exact bait an awful lot here in the UK, mainly for Perch Pike and Zander, and I use your 2nd technique always. And this produces so many fish! So just like bass, the Perch Pike and Zander will all hit this Lure on the drop it really gets them going especially with the vibration the ribbed profile gives off!
Great vid!!! I witnessed a huge smallmouth follow an injured dying gizzard shad about 4” long all the way down from the surface to within 4” of the bottom, then she slurped it up. Scuba can be a very educational way to learn bass’ habits! I live on Dale Hollow, and usually have about 15’ or more visibility above 30’. I do believe bass use the bottom like the ropes in a boxing ring, to help catch their prey. Especially when they are chasing shad schools. I use a TX rigged fluke with a small, maybe BB size split shot and let it go all the way to the bottom, then let it sit dead still for about 30 seconds before reeling back. Killer on Ky and Barkley in late summer/ September!
I fish paddle tails on a Texas rig to keep it weedless 4/0 ewg hook with the hook down to keep the weight on the belly if I’m fishing ponds or the lake depending on depth I’ll throw a bullet weight on but usually I’ll throw it weightless in the river I’ll throw a pinned bullet weight on because of the current that’s about it works great I’ll throw flukes and stuff on the same Texas rig
10:50 theres a really cool underwater video with smallmouth feeding on gobies. In the video you can watch how quickly they react to the goby bolting off the bottom.
When using the pendulum, why reel up instead of jerking the rod? I found that interesting cause we use the same retrieve for fluke in the north east, and they always hit it on the swing after a sharp jerk or two up.
I use all these rigging and techniques I also put a 3.5 kytec on a 3/8 1/2 oz. wobble head in deep water during the winter I slowly drag it on the bottom
Killed the largemouth on a 3.5 swim bait fishing a 1/16 ounce darter head long shank jig. Steady retrieve about 2 feet down. They tore 'em up on Memorial Day despite the 15-20 mph wind gusts. Great video Ty
It looks like you make your own jigheads with Do-it molds, I do the same thing myself with the molds but with worm nose or ball head screw lock, I find that the Keitech’s stay on longer and have less ‘pulling my pants down’ moments by the bass I fish until they rip the tail off, then I will have to re-rig. How often do you dip your tails into the dye?
Thank you Tyler!!! This first technique got me my first Hoover bass (here in ohio) ever this morning. It was a smallmouth 1 lb 14oz!! I was so pumped. Thank you again!!!!
I lived in Marysville for 3 years in Ohio, being excited for a 1 pound bass compared to living most of my life in Miami Florida and catching jack crevalles, snooks, giant peacocks, clownknife fish is as black and white to me as ever.
I have a pack in pro blue/red pearl and have used them as a trailer on a chatter bait and haven't had any luck with them yet this year. I'll definitely give em a go rigged this way and try a couple of the different retrieval techniques you shared. From one Buckeye to another thanks a bunch for the great video.
I have had luck with it in heavily stained water. I like to use a darker color or a deeper purple/ red. I will also use a slower retrieve or try to let the head of the jig kind of deflect off of rocks and cover.
People might think I am crazy but my favorite swim jig head is a football head, well when there is no grass! The football head gives it a good wobble to the bait and works great with the swim bait, I notched this while I was dragging a football jig on the bottom and while reeling the jig in for another cast I was watching the way it was coming in and it had a great wobble, so my brother and I was throwing swim baits and he was using swing jig head and I was using the football and I out fish him every time we do this and even swapped heads and he will catch more than me! It’s awesome everyone needs to try it but stay away from grass it will hang up pretty much all the time
Good stuff. Confirms what I've been doing for a bit now. What you're calling "pendulum" is what we actually call "tight lining" where I'm from. I really like your videos dude, keep them coming.
I have won many tournaments on a keitech. I waited a long time to fish this bait bc I didn’t like the price point. After fishing this lure for 4 or so years I have no regrets. They have been big in the western lakes for a long time but here in southwest Ohio most folks don’t touch them or haven’t heard of them
Dude your videos have taught me so much!! Ty I fish Tappan and ohio id love to meet ya one day if your ever around!! I 💯🎣👊 Have you ever used the chasebait swimbait?
Hey Tyler this is a really good video this time the only thing I wish you wouldn’t put it out. This has been one of my go to Bates the last couple years especially when I go wade fishing in a local creek. You can put on your fourth option when fishing like this is too ragged weightless and turn the bait Is upside down with the tail of the point up and being weightless it will come across the surface like a buzz bait. Really great when chasing smallmouth
Keitech makes by FAR the best swimbait on the market. I use a 3in on a Gamakatsu 1/0 with a split shot. That way, I can change the depth and action. I’ve tried every other swimbait out there and nothing gets action like the salted with squid scent version.
Sup Tyler. I have a pack and didn't really know what to do with it? Used 1 as trailer didn't work, uses same one on Texas rig didn't work. Perfect timing for video because doctors gave ok to go on boat, and going Tuesday and will try it like you showed, have perfect spot, I hope lol
Been really liking the smaller ones on spinning. For baitcasting mu go to is a 4.8 on a 1/8oz VMC drop dead keel hook. Put a drop of superglue on the sling screw and it will last forever. Frankly though I’ve been getting away from the keitechs cause they’re just so damn fragile. I was a devotee for a long time….shunning ALL the knockoffs. But…I’ve pretty much switched to the Berkeley power swimmer. Seem to catch almost as many fish as the Keitechs and are waaaaaay more durable.
i ordered some baits from sportsmens outfitters , i ordered two frogs and a twentyfive pk missle baits d bomb they were all on sale and a lot cheaper than TW or even Acadamey
Good stuff man. I know I should be fishing kitech more but I honestly didn’t know how to besides cast out and bring it back. Great to have some more techniques to try. I’m really stoked to try the football head with it
We care prohibited from using Lead jigs here in New Hampshire, Mass, and Maine because they kill Loons who bottom feed. We need more Tungsten/ non- lead options.
Try the bass assassin litl boss 3.5 inch. Works just as well action just as good 10 times more durable and half the price. Caught thousands of fish with them
Never thought about using football head jigs on a paddle tail. Good idea! I really like the 3&4 inch spark shads & hazedong shads better than kytec, well I should say I've
Hey Tyler good stuff. My question is when you talk about Sportsmans and Outfitters where is this business located? Just called the store and they say there’s two of them one here in Pennsylvania and one out west. Want to make an order out so that I’m helping the bass HQ channel
Great video Tyler. I have definitely been experienced a difference in changing my swimbait sized in my small little lake here on base. i have noticed a difference in the swipes versus what actually eats it.
the keitech is my go to for bass . the thin tail and wide paddle give it nice movement. sometimes i use a spray on attractant and i think that grill effect on their swim bait helps to absorb the attractant better than others.
The pendulum technique is one of my favorites for river smallmouth. Some of my biggest fish have been from the pendulum. It is insane how good it is. I always called it tight lining but pendulum is a much better way to describe it!
No fish pulled in the boat during this showcase so - 0/5 wouldn’t recommend. Jk, each week I’m going to the store to buy the baits and trying to use the techniques on the weekends. Good Friday video! 👍
If they were more durable the action would be different which is what sets them apart from their competition, the salt content and pliability are selected to give them that action. Just like the dinger is more durable than the senko, but there’s no contest when it comes to the action.

Do this with needlefish in the surf
I did this on accident while fishing a grub and always got my bites. Good to see others do it too.

Hi Tyler, can you make a video on how to fish in really hot weather (im in texas) or even extreme conditions? Thanks for the videos!

Just got a couple of bags of this in the mail, really productive bait, those tips are more than welcome, thanks my fellow angler friend.
Nice video, I really appreciate the tips that you offered. A couple of the tips I had not really thought about. Thanks.
if your not to good at jigging a gulp or your wrist is fatigued just reeling in the keitech on a jig head is one of the best ways to go.
Excellent video. Gonna try that pendulum technique for sure.
Great advice on keeping from jumping. Same thing applies to jigs I have lost sooo many big fish till I figured out to keep that tip down
That drag tip is great, I used to fish the slider worms more than I do now.
Great video! These tips will really help me on my next trip/trips.

This is one of my go to baits. Been fishing it like this for years. I just wish they were more durable. They tear up so easy.
I went through 4 of them in 1/2 Hr, it lasted two fish
It’s frustrating if you’re fishing recreationally but if you’re in a tournament you will happily use 5 baits to get 5 keepers
Use a lighter to mend tears

Tyler, thanks for all your videos, is this technic for clear water or could it be used in less than 2 ft clarity?
I have had luck with it in heavily stained water. I like to use a darker color or a deeper purple/ red. I will also use a slower retrieve or try to let the head of the jig kind of deflect off of rocks and cover.
Love dipping the tail in the cap idea
I use the weighted eagle claw Skeet Reese swimbait hooks to make it weedless in 3/0 size using a 3.8 Keitech
When would you use this type of skirtless jig vs. a skirted swimjig.?
Nice. I see you've got the Custom Frosted Graph Screen.😄

I catch lot of fish like this... But if your river fishing it's snag city with any open hook lure (in my area)
Would really have liked it if you showed how you put it on the hook, I mess up lots of swim baits doing that
How many rods have you stepped on and broke setting the hook on bigger fish? The deck seems to have little foot room.
I really like your videos. Very interesting, informative, and wide ranged content. Thank you!
