Here is part two of my overview for Orchestral Tools new library: 'Metropolis Ark 1' MP3: / to-the-ark orchestraltools.com/libraries/... Watch live at / hybridtwo
Daniel, I don't know if anyone has said this before, but if so, I'll say it here again. Not only are your reviews SUPER helpful in deciding whether to lay down the cash to grab the libraries, they are also super informative about actually using the damn expensive things AND orchestration/composing techniques with samples. I've learned so much just by watching your reviews, a lot of subtle hints and tips on making better compositions just by paying close attention - thank you so much for the time you put into these! They mean a lot to me and other musicians!
DJ = easily the most helpful, inspiring and informative person on UA-cam for aspiring composers. Thanks so much for all your videos Daniel, much appreciated!
I play in a symphonic orchestra, and this one is how i feel the brass in my face when the music is energic. This library have actual muscle physics in the brass
I believe that "buzz" you mentioned regarding french horns around 19:35 is referred to as cuivre, although I could be wrong. I love that sound as well. I wonder how Cinebrass would sound when layered with Metropolis brass. Great video as always, Daniel!
You're a great person!! Your demo for ICENI is my favorite. I have got a question.. I just bought MA1 recently. Do you think that ICENI can add that beefy low end frequency when combined with MA1? I sense that MA1 is strong about the sense of room in its sound, but not sure if it holds a thick body of sound sonically when used standalone, if you get what I mean. Like, whether its sound is tight enough, especially for the brass.
In your opinion, is better Metropolis Ark 1 or 8dio Majestica (+ Lacrimosa or Requiem for choirs later) to write epic music? At the moment I use Kontakt Factory Library but I think it's not good enough for my goals Thank you :)
Nice Track and Video! I want to do the same, would this composition with cubase elements possible too or are there limitations, not enough tracks for example? thanks!
Awesome video! :) I was wondering how, in your opinion, this library compares to Spitfire Albion 1 (in terms of an epic library and all round orchestral). I am looking to buy my first orchestral library and I was looking at these 2 options, thanks :)
Quick Q: What libraries work better for more "controlled" music (like Solomon from 12 Years a Slave kinda controlled)? I hope that made sense, and great stuff!
Not familiar with your DAW but it looks like you're running an EQ across the whole mix? And when you're playing the samples isolated they seem to be going through that EQ too? It appears to be cutting out a little somewhere around 200 and another at 2-4k or something? Edit: Ok I guess I commented too soon, it seems you are EQing everything and you explain that later on.
Awesome composition and a great overview I must say. I have been following your streams and all your work from a long time. I have one small request if you have some time. I got introduced to your music through the video 'Draw With Me'. It was absolutely beautiful. I am a fan of your work and your personality since then. Can you please do a video overview of the 'Draw With Me' project?
Daniel, I know you have your problems with Play, but if you really like these soaring French Horns so much, you need to check out Hollywood Brass if you haven't already. That 6FH Legato patch is still the best I've ever heard, and I do own Metropolis Ark I and absolutely love it.
+Daniel James Interesting. I also prefer CineBrass and now Metropolis in many situations, but the 6FH Leg Slur patch on HB still makes my balls tingle after all these years.
What makes you stick to this DAW in particular? I find it so aesthetically displeasing... Petty I know but I find I can work longer on Presonus due to its gorgeous interface (I am paying attention, I've just been thinking of that question a while now)
+ABombs1 Agreed, its very ugly looking. I stick with it because I know where everything is and what everything does....so I can write music without having to think about the technology

1st part: 8 minutes

Love that symmetry
3rd part: 40 years
I love how he teaches music: "fff means f***ing f***ing loud".

I could easily watch 10 hours of you going through every instrument :) The composition sounds awesome!

I've watched your whole presentation...You have just sold me on this. I will be purchasing it now.... Thank You so Much!!!!!

Can this library do MPE so that it can be played/used together with the ROLI Seaboard?

+Wil Jones Metropolis for big trailers. Albion for score.
Hello dear James. Cant finda Metropolis ark 2 on your video channel. Second part is epic fail ?

Nice video indeed :) What is that black device between your keyboard & synth?
Are you going to review the choir library, aah forgot the name, would be helpful i guess
Hi Daniel, I wanted to know if these Swells or other articulations are tempo synced? They seem to fit your music well tempo-wise. Thanks.
What do you use for your "additional reverb" that you keep toggling in the vid? Thanks for the awesome walkthrough!
eventide blackhole

+luco r I have it! I actually prefer Metropolis and Cinebrass to HWB

How much money do you think you've spent in total for all your music stuff?
About 75%

Portato lol
You could really benefit from a written outline. This video is far too long for what it covers.
