  • Since I've been asked this quite a lot these days, here's my take on why Metropolis Ark 1 is the best orchestral library for what I do, and which library you should get between Ark 1, 2 and 3 if you write Loud Orchestral Music.

    • @ChristopherSiu
      @ChristopherSiu 5 років тому +3

      Alex Moukala Oh absolutely, it’s very versatile in that regard. I think as long as your music is ‘epic’ in some way, Ark 3 will fit right at home. I personally use the string staccatissimos in every single project; they have so much grit. The timpani ensemble as well is so inspiring.

    • @kylejudkins754
      @kylejudkins754 5 років тому +2

      that's what I was saying
      the fucking timpani ensemble lmao...
      honestly just the fucking freight train of those rhythmic strings is enough to buy the library

    • @_thanksdavid_
      @_thanksdavid_ 5 років тому

      Fascinating, my refrain is that as a stand-alone library the limitations of Ark 3 are pointed, it definitely needs to be mixed in with other sustained elements or libraries. Which isn't a bad thing, just an asterisk in thinking about recommending it. I personally love Ark 2 the most for a more subtle (compared to ark 1) tone, but I'm the kind of person more likely to just mix the best bunch of solo libraries I have in most use cases.

    • @jandewilde3977

      I recently got my hands on Audio Imperia - Jaeger Hangar IV, which has the vocals of Merethe Soldvedt, and they are gorgeous. Obviously limited, cause you only get Merethe's voice (ooh's, aah's and mhm's). But the sound you get is just wow!
      For percussion I got Audio Imperia - Cerberus. Really good for huge and big sounds. I also think Alex has a video about this library.
      And I have the Native Instruments Symphony Series which includes a percussion library as well. Still experimenting with it, but so far I like it.
      All these libraries had crazy offerings 2 weeks ago though, so that's why I bought 'em. Now their prices went back up.

    • @AlexMoukala
      @AlexMoukala  5 років тому +2

      It depends on the sound you're going for.
      I personally like Ark 1, but also Oceania a lot for Choir. Though it mostly works as for loud sustains, marcato and staccato.
      You can hear it in my Dream Is Collapsing cover: ua-cam.com/video/4j-0xPsF-NQ/v-deo.html
      For Percussion, from what I know I can recommend you Damage, Cerberus or Strikeforce for very aggressive stuff.
      If you need some more organic / quiet orchestral percussion, I wouldn't know what to recommend (I personally use Rhapsody Orchestral Percussion for those and I like it a lot, but I don't exclude there might be something better out there)

      Berlin percussion is an amazing library, but its not for epic stuff.
      choir libraries on the other hand - ark 1 and 2 have nice choir stuff for epic things
      dominus and Oceania are a killer combo, but even old ass EWQL symphonic choirs still works if you learn how to program/shape words with it

    Hey, would you say Metropolis Ark 1 could work well together with Jaeger? So far Jaeger is my go to-library, but sometimes I miss a little brunt in its sound. You're absolutely right about that the samples are pretty well defined but i think they could use a little more punch in the face. So i 'm about to get my hands on Ark 1 for a loud and rich base and intend to maybe bring out the main points by combining it with JAEGER.

    I'd really like to see a video or even have you here in the comments share a piece of your mind, Alex, in regards to what was the driving factor for you when it came to choosing your first song to cover during your baby steps in composition. Was it something relatively affordable to recreate with the hard-earned libraries you got for yourself for starters, or did you pick your libraries specifically for the setup you heard in the musical piece you attempted to do? Was it a strenuous and tedious journey which eventually paid off, or was it a stroll in a park since you knew what you were doing all along? Were you much like those guys who put up epic and complex tracks with an annotation in the description "i just picked up fl studio and some libraries this is my first ever composition lol" or did you have to work really hard at it, often questioning whether you're even going to make it where you want to be? (I know that in some of your videos you already mentioned that you indeed practiced intensively to exhaustion, but a recap of that would be nice, too.) I reckon that a lot of us would be interested in a tale of the hardships you had to endure in order to achieve your own piece of greatness that we look up to now. As well as getting to know your methods for overcoming limitations bound to either max capabilities of your first set of libraries or your own skill back when you started.
    By the way, great video! Can really see why you love Ark 1 so much. That juicy sound is to die for.

      I've never been a fan of the idea of climbing a whole mountain in one step. I prefer doing it one step at a time.
      My first songs weren't that much complicated in comparison tot he songs I'm doing now, but they were "difficult" to write for me at that time.
      I always set myself and tackled one or two challenges maximum per each song, relative to what my skill level was when I began such songs, instead of trying to figure out the entire puzzle in one go as that's very counterproductive.
      If you want an example, one of my first ever compositions's challenge was:
      - use nexus2 to create a track that has a structure, a melody and and chord progressions going on.

      I think Inspire 1 is better than Inspire 2. Have you looked at Project Sam Orchestral Essentials part 1 and 2 instead of Berlin Inspire 2? If you don't have Ark 1 get that instead though. I like Spitfire Albion 1 and 2 though too. Depends on the price, but I think they are all better than Inspire 2. The Orchestral Tools stand alone libraries like the Berlin Woodwinds and Berlin Brass are amazing though. I tried Ark 2 and Ark 3 at a friends house and didn't really like either (especially 3 which I couldn't get anything to sound good, but that might be my fault more than the library). Also Project Sam Symphobia 1 is a decent all-in-one library too and has strings, brass, winds and percussion like the Inspire series. I'd at least check out their videos and demos before purchasing Inspire 2

    Okay so from what I have heard, Ark 2 might be replacable in terms of loudness of course, however it's a great sound just as Ark 1.
    In this video you even said that you couldn't make a quite intro for you track "the Landing". Now imagine, Ark 2 has a very similar sound to Ark 1, both blend perfectly together. They build up on eachother in terms of dynamic possibilities and combined are an unbeatable combo. They were recorded by the same team in the same stage. I would always choose that combo instead of combining Ark 1 with a totally different library, recorded by another brand. Gonna have to try that out for myself though

    • @AlexMoukala
      @AlexMoukala  5 років тому +1

      Yeah that's a good point: the idea of blending two libraries from the same brand / series is a good one.
      Plus, getting both right now, since they're discounted, is not a bad idea financially speaking.
      However, I personaly just preferred to buy additional libraries like Cinematic Strings 2, 8Dio Century Brass etc., which do way more than just being quiet and intimate.
      Metropolis Ark 1 blends perfectly with so many libraries anyhow.

      @@kylejudkins754 I may be missing something but you really don't need 128gb of ram. If you have a fast enough cpu and a couple nvme hard drives you could just purge samples once you have a solid melody/phrase. If you needed to go back you could just reload the samples and with the nvme and fast cpu that's pretty much instant. To top things off you could freeze the track, that's of course once you know your pretty much done with that track. SO theoretically instead of spending all that money on ram, save and buy the fast CPU and nvme drives. The first hit is what's read from the ram anyways, when you play anything that is sustained Kontakt is reading off the drive. And purge/reloading as well as freezing is a great way to guarantee the longevity of your CPU and drive. All that reading and writing is taxing. Anyways I may be wrong but I feel like lots of ram is wasteful and mostly useless.
