  • today I took a deep dive into the recent situation involving Nijisanji, regarding the recent termination the streamer Selen Tatsuki. Now going by Dokibird, after leaving nijisanji, dokibird's new channel has gone gang busters, and ive never seen a vtuber related story pop up quite like this one.

Niji already had a horrible reputation in the vtuber sphere before all this. Debuting new streamers so fast they seemingly cannibalize each others viewers, management being unable to keep up with all the new talent. Poor pay (like the infamous 2% cut of merch sales), rumors of favoritism. Entire branches seemingly being abandoned for not bringing in enough views/money. And the constant stream of graduations and terminations that have been going on. Heck, when they canceled Doki's (then Selen) Fall Guys tournament many of her fans were already saying she'd be better off leaving Nijisanji.

I assume most of the others did too. Once they get monitized and make enough to live off is when Pomu, now don't get me wrong Pomu made a crapton of money through memberships and Superchat's but no initial salary and the merch cut was abyssmal. The voice packs are where they made the real money at something like 50% cut. None of the livers ever promote merch but boy oh boy do they hawk the voice packs. Voice packs are only $10 bucks so they get $5 bucks a sale, acrylic stands are $7 and the cut is like 2% of the profit so we're talking less than 14 cents as far as I understand it.

They definitely tried to manipulate the situation like the Sayu/Zaion situation where they justified her termination by saying she was toxic to livers and then having them comment about it on stream instead of making a statement about it. Fun fact: Nijisanji doesn't sponsor any of the livers projects, Doki spend &200,000 canadian dollars in projects in 2023 (not counting 2022 and 2021) and made no profit that year.
All her projects were erased by Nijisanji.
Some of her projects of 2023
-She made a 3d birthday concert of 30 minutes, paid a 3d model for one of her colleagues (you can find clips of the concert it was GOOD).
    -Her last cover (confirmed $15000)
-Original aon with an original mv.
    - Commissioned multiple short animations.
-Lo-fi versions of most of the gen songs with animations(mostly every gen has a debut song).
-A small videogame of her and a graduated talent (Pomu Rainpuff).
    -A Hololive/Nijisanji apex tournament.
-Wrestlesanji 1 and 2 on twitch (she even got a belt commissioned).

this is common in corp vtuber companies. If its not a corp sponsored event, it is the talents cost. Music videos, events, etc. This is true in holo as well... music video covers, purchases of games, streaming hardware... almost always talent funded. ... That is part of why the niji ceo was apologizing is the company was supposed to have more company sponsored events (3D lives, model refreshes, etc). But more over, in niji, the lack of a stipend as they are treated as contractors not employees, and the HORRIBLE cut on the revenue... and it seems that niji managers are unable, or unwilling (in the case of Pomu) to find/make/approve the sponsorships and brand deals that also help make content possible... makes this horrible at Niji. That their talents only make $200k a year. But yes I generally disagree with agencies getting to remove all content, even on termination. I understand the contract is such they own the IP, and it DOES take some staff time to monitor and remove things as rights change over time... but still does feel a real loss for no reason. For a company like Niji, I am not sure why that corp would be better than indie life at this point.

I hate the fact Niji doesn't pay a salary either (cover does pay one) the smaller talents have less probability of making projects to try and get the spotlight on themselves as all money they get go to their day to day bills.
The fact that ex niji livers have talked about how nice is to have managers and that they didn't knew managers helped that much (there is a matara kan clip) makes this souch worse.

Correct. Criminal Code Article 184 if I'm not mistaken.
Since she was involved with the conversation to begin with, she doesn't need the other person's consent to have a recorded copy. It'd be different if it was a conversation she wasn't involved with and still recorded a copy (technically classified as eavesdropping in a professional/private manner which is illegal) but as it directly involved her according to all things, she's in the clear in a court of law.

Honestly, this video leaves out so much of the context to be charitable to Niji,
Like how 2 of the ex-niji streamers joined Vshojo and implied that they were treated extremely poorly in niji, that management was exceptionally incompetent, hardly doing anything for their talents, and how surprised they were that managers in Vshojo actually asked them what they wanted and how they could help.
How in Niji you only get a 2% merch cut, the rest 98% goes to the company, how less than 10% of their earnings is invested back into the company,
How you aren't allowed to do any content creation outside of Nijisanji, (afaik no other Vtuber company does this).
Niji hiring only students for minimum wage and part-time to do management/translation roles
The numerous cases previously of documented mismanagement, The whole Zion Lanza termination and how poorly that was handled (though in that case there were some public fuckups on Zions part that the termination letter could point to, but it also added what seems to be in hindsight a lot of bogus points, and similarly some of their talents then proceeded to character assassinate her)
How Niji has been bleeding streamers left and right, every single one of them saying that they couldn't accomplish projects and they saw no future in for them working in the company.
How doki stated in her first return stream she spent 200k out of her own pocket paying for projects (that niji should have been paying for) and how she didn't make any profit in 2023.
A similar things was said by K9Kuro of Vshojo, previously Mysta Rias of Niji EN.
How Niji doesn't allow any work outside of Niji, no voice acting, no videos on your personal accounts, no nothing outside of NIji, they want to control your life, as attested to by many people who tried to join Niji but didn't (most notably Cy Yu).
The various cases of stealth suspensions, management tweeting from the streamers accounts pretending to be the streamers.
How in this case, a few days after the music video in question was privated, Selen Tatsuki's account tweeted she was in hospital for an accident and thanking the dragoons for keeping her going, except it turns out that in their own termination letter of her a month later, they said that they took away all access to Selen Tatsuki's accounts from dokibird, so it was managment tweeting about this and not her.
How every single instance of us finding out more about this case has been niji fucking up and doki having to respond.
How the stream with the 3 stooges went up at the exact same time as Dokibird's first ever gaming stream after coming back, intentionally timed to cause maximum harm and forcing her to find out about this live on stream (dokibirds stream was announced days in advanced, the 'a message from NIJI EN' stream was only announced minutes in advanced).
How Elira (the one who's channel this is on) claims that the document had alluded to where her, and 2 other streamers lived (which, obviously you can't call up anime girl Elira Pandora in a legal document), and implied that she was in fear of getting doxxed.
How Vox, a guy who previously ran a charity stream for suicide prevention was the one speaking the most in that 15 min black screen stream, but in this stream was like, don't harass dokibird WHO IS A LIAR AND GASLIGHTER BTW, but no harassment guys, except.
The last guy Ike didn't say much of substance at all, just at the end saying this is a matter for the lawyers! If it was a matter for the lawyers why are you talking about it at all!
Doki only said that it was a toxic work environment, it was NIJI who in their termination letter said that she claimed she was getting harassed by other livers (streamers) within the company, completely throwing their talents under the bus in a witch hunt.
And then these 3 made the livestream, timing it at the same time as doki was streaming, and saying that thier names were in the document, which lead to speculation that why would their names be in the document if they weren't the bullies and harassers (it could be they were witnesses or many other things)
before this livestream all the anger was directed at the faceless corpo, except now all the anger is directed at both the corpo and the 5 people mention in the stream.
In response to this dokibird stated that this was a legal document and it was not supposed to be seen by anyone other than lawyers, to which niji said that they investigated themselves and found that they did nothing wrong, except in more flowery language.
There's a whole bunch of other stuff too for eg. the extreme favouritism, ie. How Elira Pandora got 9/13 merch collabs for her gen, the other 2 members of her gen only got 2 each.
If it went how it's described in this video, people would be a lot more willing to go maybe Selen (dokibird) just didnt work well with Niji's management, but with all this, it paints a very clear picture.

Uh. Have fun with this lol. Warning you now that this is very much my personal thoughts and opinions, and thus is very heavily tinted by my own biases (also this is literally just exactly what I sent to my friends, so the phrasing might be a little odd)
So like first of all, its all totally fu cked. Everyone. Like niji en is going down the drain and literally nothing can stop it. Which is totally deserved, but also I listened to the statements that Vox, Ike and Elira and like it all just feels so corporate and fake and not at all something that they wanted to say. It reads to me as a situation where either they could follow what niji tells them, and read out a script slandering doki, or lose their jobs. And like yeah that's probably wishful thinking but I loved Ike, and I used both of their models as inspiration for my own (literally I have a photo of Vox's model pulled up rn and it hurts a lil to look at). And dude I am actually praying so hard that this is not what they wanted to say, because it really really doesn't see like it is. And it sucks as someone who watched them (sort of, they stream at wack times for me) to like hear them say this shit and part of me is really really hoping that they can somehow move past it, leaving niji or the vtubing community altogether (sucks, but probably the best option as of now) or somehow say that "hey guys, I didn't want to say that, and my job and livelihood was being threatened if I didn't." Because I really did enjoy some of their content and fu ck man, it sucks to see them have to lose support so quickly and say words that seem so out of character for them. And also the Vox accusations of grooming genuinely kinda terrify me. I've had creators I like be accused of things like that and have their names absolutely smeared only for it to come out that they were actually completely innocent. And like just in general the whole situation is super frustrating and I really just want a solid answer out of someone, be it Niji, Doki, Ike, Vox or literally anyone. Also, niji needs to get the fu ck up and stop using their talents as meat shields, because none of them fu cking deserve that

12:54 It is stated in screenshots, that were meant to stay private but were shared by nijisanji, that the permissions they needed to acquire were bc of the ex-talents of the company (of whom thier likeness is owned by the company not the ex-employee). Selen sent the video for approval and was not responded to for 36 hours.
The confidential document that was shared with Niji's lawyers was an HR complaint, which it was in fact signed confidential as Doki confirmed on stream. It really was never supposed to be shared with her ex-coworkers. It is stated that she was pushed to the point she was mentally after long standing bullying/harassment from staff and coworkers, so the information the livers shared about who was named in the document is damning.

While yes, I 100% agree with you about the lack of proof and information in everything here, I'm inclined to believe in Doki a lot more than in Niji because of everything that ex-members says about their experiences there. While a lack of concrete proof is disconcerting, a lot of witnesses saying very similar things in an ample amount of time indicates that there is something fishy going on there. Oh, and the fact that I doubt someone would try to off themselves because of small things. As an example: I don't remember hearing bad things about Hololive's management from ex-members, and even Holo's termination events aren't as agressive as Niji's, even when the streamer did some insane contract breaches (Rushia). Every indirect thing points towards to Niji management's incompetence. [Warning: HUGE wall of text. Sorry.] It is unlikely that you'll see this comment but if you do - first, thank you for the comprehensive coverage. As someone who was a NijisanjiEN fan a long time I've been following this drama since it began and I feel like you covered it comprehensively and in a relatively objective manner. That said, I did want to point out one thing that didn't seem to get much coverage in your video - and that is why, exactly, the general public is incensed at Nijisanji not just for their termination of Selen but also, in particular, the "black screen" stream that was posted to Elira's channel and how the situation was handled.
Up until the point Selen was terminated by Nijisanji and went back to being Dokibird she had been radio silent. Doki attributes this to her attempting to work through things privately with Nijisanji and not wanting to air these issues publicly for fear of how the public might respond to both her and the livers at NijiEN. Despite this, when Nijisanji terminated her, they published what many viewed to be, essentially, a three-page character assassination piece which dragged many of the claims she had made privately into the public domain. It is important to note again that, up until this point, Doki had made NO public statements about the situation or implicating Nijisanji or its livers. The first public statement to come out about these claims was from Nijisanji themselves. Doki, feeling compelled to respond, made her first public statement - the one-paragraph rebuttal where she informed her fans that she was hospitalized due to a suicide attempt and claimed that this attempt was the result of internal bullying and a toxic environment. Once again, at NO POINT did Doki implicate individual livers.
This was the only public statement Doki would make on the matter up until approximately a week later when, on Feb 12, Elira Pendora of NijisanjiEN announced that they would be hosting a livestream in *30 minutes* from the announcement time to discuss the "current events" surrounding Selen's termination. Right off the bat there is one really important thing to note about this livestream - specifically, that it was scheduled to go live at the EXACT SAME TIME that Dokibird was set to go live to do her first gaming stream since return. As Dokibird scheduled her gaming stream an entire week in advance and it was heavily publicized many people viewed this "overlap" in start times as targeted/intentional. Still, when the stream was going live, many people were expecting a PR-related stream apologizing about recent events and asking for patience and support. What actually transpired in the stream, however, left Selen/Dokibird and Nijisanji fans alike appalled and incensed. In the stream three of Nijisanji's TOP LIVERS - Elira Pendora, Vox Akuma, and Ike Eveland - took private legal documents that Doki's lawyers had sent to Nijisanji, and who had never intended for them to be made public, and aired them publicly claiming that they feared Doki would use them to dox the livers. They further accused Doki of lying in these prior-to private documents, and then went on to share internal communications (something that Nijisanji could fire an individual talent for doing without their approval) that were heavily cropped and used them to suggest that everything which transpired was the fault of Selen's poor time management/ability to follow rules, instructions, and deadlines.
After 15 minutes of this the stream ends. Following the stream, and after she is made aware of it, Dokibird would then go on to cancel the remainder of her stream due to the negative head space this had caused her and due to a need to discuss the event with her lawyer. Needless to say this stream left a VERY negative impression on many of the people in the audience and general public (the like to dislike ratios and the comments speak for themselves). Far from being a PR statement and being conciliatory in any way, the stream was a.) targeted to interrupt Dokibird's return gaming stream, b.) discussing private legal documents that Dokibird's lawyer had sent to them and c.) was making every effort to paint her as a rule breaker and someone who threatened their safety. In short it was a hit piece - and this hit piece came AFTER the company and the livers knew of the attempts Dokibird had made on her life and the negative headspace she was in. Put another way, it came across to many people as a manifestation of the bullying and harassment Dokibird had been referring to all along - but this time out in the public.
And that's it. I know this was a huge wall of text and I apologize but I feel like this context is really important in explaining why there is currently so much backlash and so much vitriol being aimed at NijisanjiEN. This isn't so much a matter of who is right and who is wrong anymore - it's a matter of how NijiEN handled this situation and how they came across as publicly targeting and harassing a former liver and co-worker who had already attempted to take her own life - not once but twice - and who was trying to move on.

I don't know much about the situation but the response from the other streamers signed to Niji sounds like peak PR damage control. They're throwing allegations back towards Doki so they can cover their own asses and keep their cushy streamer spots, and that video was probably planned well in advance by a full board of lawyers and PR pros. It's sickening to see what happens when someone's mental issues can't be acknowledged due to corporate interests.

I doubt PR pros would recommend that. First, the situation would have slowly died down if they left it alone. Second, they put three of their biggest stars in the crossfire when it was all speculation as to who was harassing Doki, and then they start the stream at the same time Doki is starting her own stream, just to deliver a message that is basically saying Doki wasn't as great a person as you think she is.

Nijisanji has been the subject of the schizophrenic scrutiny of image boards for more than a year now. Selen's termination was very similar to Zaion Lanza's, another Nijisanji streamer terminated acrimoniously in 2023.
Basically, the denizens of the image boards mostly sided with Zaion, speculating that Nijisanji's English branch is a toxic environment rife with personal harassment, mostly dominated by a small clique.
What this shitshow demonstrates is that the schizos were mostly right! By attempting to deflect the blame away, Nijisanji unwittingly admitted to a lot of those speculations.
Which is why the schizos went into overdrive to craft a "grand unifying narrative" (aka Gurrat), a collage of speculations and barely proven half truths that explains the behavior of all actors in a strangely satisfying manner. The main gist of the Gurrat is that NijiEN management was completely sidelined by members that could communicate in fluent Japanese, particularly Elira Pendora. Nijisanji's consistent troubles with EN-JP translations indicate a lack of proper bilingual managers on NijiEN, and maybe even a lack of proper translators. This allowed the clique to centralize all communications with the JP brass and basically seize power for themselves.
This explains why that strange black video went live on Elira's channel: as the de facto ringleader of the clique, she had the most to lose if shit hits the fan. This also explains why Vox (as he admitted in his own words ) had full access to Doki's documents, once Elira realized how much dirt Doki had on everyone, she needed allies that could help her defend the company (and her position), and what better way to convince Vox to cooperate than to leak the dox to him.

I would like to compare this situation with one of Rushia/Hololive.
It was a bit messy, but it was pretty agreed on that Rushia acted emotionally and broke her contract by leaking information and also has a bit of a history for being mentally unwell (something that has spread to her Mikeneko account). Hololive during that time were going out of their way to try to help her til the contract breach and they couldn't legally keep her. Rushia wasn't a "nobody," but their highest superchat earner in the company, but had to let her go.
Despite the drama that followed, Hololive kept it professional and didn't throw her under the bus like Niji is doing by trying to appeal to our "emotions" to save face.
Let's also mention a very recent termination with Hololive, Yozora Mel. She also broke her contract and let go, but it was amicable with her being allowed to say goodbye to everyone on Twitter.
No childish fighting that's damaging the company and other streamers. No shit-talking or pettiness. Both of those girls are moving on in their own way.

Good job. Probably the most objective coverage of the scandal that I've seen so far. Regarding your concern that neither side is showing receipts - private communications between Nijisanji members and staff are confidential by contract, so to air the laundry they need permission from the big bosses in Tokyo. Doki has almost certainly been locked out of all Selen-related accounts both public and private since at least a couple of weeks before the termination, so it's unlikely she has access to a message history. So far the corporate office hasn't shown any interest in settling personal vendettas, so it seems they're inclined to leave it for the lawyers to work out.

As to the document and the access granted to said talent by the company... If somone is concerned about self destructive things you are doing and they keep trying to reach out, it can sometimes feel like you're being harassed in a way. Sometimes the abuse is veiled as "correction" (I'm not trying to be funny) and that abuse is evil, done intentionally or otherwise, as it can cause literal brain damage from stress and brain inflamation.
In this case, the person tried to take their own life... twice. Her BPD is definitely a factor in all of this, but it's clearly NOT the entire story and clearly her colleagues are not innocent by any margin.

Some things to note not mentioned in this video:
Niji has come under fire before for a toxic work place environment before from others who have left the company.
Niji also for some reason dropped those two videos the day of Doki's first game stream within 5 minutes of her starting causing her to shut it down early and get off. Which is suspicious af timing wise almost feeling like a jab at Doki.
Finally what Doki states is VERY similar to Xion's termination where she claimed very similar things to Doki bird (Now her situation was very VERY different BUT the fact that it's been claimed multiple times is something to note.)
These have really buried Niji's popularity for good reason.

The distaste towards Niji is on top of information about poor percentage cuts for talents, no salary, and poor management from past Niji streamers. If it's one person, it's unique, if its 5+ people, it becomes a pattern. Poor income on top of poor management is ripe for a toxic workplace. There was also favoritism for certain streamers seeing the distribution percentage of specialty collaborations. Elira had a large portions of collaborations that probably brought more income for select streamers compared to Selen and Pomu who were more popular than Elira. Selen and Pomu were also specifically passed over for their respective dream collaborations which is strange. Pomu specifically mentions a manager rejected her dream collab with a company without allowing any room for negotiation for Pomu in a stream and this stream was specifically taken down by management. Putting it kindly, Nijisanji's management is so poor it's detrimental in supporting their streamers. They don't promote events, the don't help find funding, and they don't do secretarial tasks for livers. They don't seem to do anything besides approve and deny things on a extremely slow timeline, missing a streamer's intended deadline. No other company does this strange snail pace, incompetent work pipeline.

Glad you covered this! A big piece of evidence towards doki being legit in her claims is several other ex-niji streamers (Nina Kosaka/Matara Kan, Mista Ryas/K9Kuro, Zaion Lanza/Sayu, Pomu Rainpuff, Mika, and a few others im probably forgetting) have all corroborated in some way or another severe mismanagement and favoritism problems in Nijisanji, and in the case of some leading to severe personal problems. Especially Zaion, Nina, and Mista, the first if which had a similar smear campaign esque comments dropped by other niji talents which in hindsight is a carbin copy of what hapoened to doki. Matching similarly how msny claims of misconduct were dropped, with no evidence to back it up. Im not as familiar with Zaion but i believe after this dropped she made simmilar remarks about betrayal, bullying, and harassment within the company. For the next 2 Nina mentioned multiple times after joining a new agency (Vshojo) as Matara Kan suffering from intense burnout and being made to feel worthless by various people at Niji (codenamed "Hollywood"). In the case of Mista, now Kuro with the same agency as Matara, he mentions similar overworking conditions as well as IIRC the financial burdens upon him personally as a result of nijis mismanagement leading to extreme tax problems (only resolving those via the help of Ironmouse and Vshojo's behind the scenes team, athough for obvious reasons the specifics arent public knowledge). Many of these claims lining up so to point many to believe an internal clique being present (3 suspects of which were the streamers who made the niji) consisting of the "favorites" of niji management who would bully and gaslight other talents. Although this is highly alleged and should be taken with a grain of salt, it is alarmingly noticeable that these claims may have decent merrit to them after this selen/doki PR disaster.
Its also worth noting many, myself included, believe Nijisanji massively self reported as in the video on Eliras channel they name drop several livers as ones Doki was "Attacking" and "Doxxing". However, Doki has never released any names or even mentioned other talents in any of her public statements. This combined with an almost perfect match to the aforementioned rumors, further implicating nijis wrongdoing here, and backing up the bullying claims made by Doki.
Additionally it is worth noting allegedly the talent only recives 1-2% of merch, and is primarily left to pay for their own assets unless you are a chosen favorite. This among the numerous creative blockades and strings of red tape being citied by many ex-niji streamers (including the ones mentioned above) as a strong catalyst to leave. The company apparently also with several artists and other creative commissions has a long track record of mismanagement and unprofessionalism, including multiple artists reporting NDAs with incorrect titles, names, and other critical information.
Niji also was attempting to sneak membership money "under the rug" by choosing to keep Memberships to selen's channel open and active, as to not have to refund for the month of February, which as far as im aware is not the normal procedure and is shady at best.
Overall, not a great image for Niji (also if i missed anything or got any of the details wrong, feel free to add more in the replys)

If this was Niji first time then i think they can paint their in the good light but the problem is not. And the most stupid thing is they did exactly the same method and the same strategy right now againts Doki like they used againt Zaion back then.
For example the video statement with Vox, Elira and Ike right now, they also did it with Finana and Kotoka back then againts Zaion.
Vox and Eliara word right now in the statement video have the same intention with word that come out from Finana mouth during Zaion termination. Their intention ofcouse to reverse the role to make them as the victim of the terminated member. The word betrayed used now also used back then during Zaion termination. Trying to pointed the liver as problematic child also used back then.
The difference between Selen/Doki with Zaion/Sayu is that Doki have been with company long enough and have good reputation from the fans even from neutral, when Sayu is not since she just with the company in short time and have bad reputation among fans during her time.
But they both have same experience and the same treatment by the company.
So it just Niji stupidity that cause it's not really start with Selen but really start with the ID member that been merger that give so much clue to their fans about how bad the company are. Only in ID a member graduate and put a thumbnail of her character free from the sackle. Only in ID they turn minecraft stream to funeral when Niji still on the top of the cloud. Only in ID a liver said the need to prepare for her grave because the ship is kinda shinking when Niji is on their golden time.
Everything bad in Niji right now is something that been there for a long time, but in EN side is exploded right now.

A big point that isn't addressed in this video is that Dokibird wanted all of this to be private, but Nijisanji choose to make it public to have themselves look better to the public

Tazumi's video probably would have had a more positive impact if it wasn't preceded by Elira/Vox/Ike making a stream of "Yeah it's bad that she tried to kill herself, but have you considered she didn't get video perms?"

This is probably the best video I've seen on the situation!
At first, I was scared when I saw that you've also made a video about all of this, as most of the videos I've seen include speculation that paints NijiEN's streamers in a negative way. I've been a fan of their talents for a long time, but their management really messed up this time. As you said, we do not have access to essential information about their communication prior to this, and I really hate to see that some streamers are being harassed by toxic Vtuber fans based on the claims of either side

Honestly well put together consolidation of the situation and now that I've cool down a bit I can see why it could be a case of miscommunication and basically doki just not being in a workplace she's comfortable with. My wavering opinion on the event aside however, it still rubs me the wrong fking way that the termination notice had to be done on vanta's bday stream day as well as the fact that they had to shill merch not even a couple hours after the termination. Its these 2 particular things that discredited niji for me initially because the termination was also suspiciously close to the end of a limited time sale of merch with selen's involvement. Of course this must also be taken with a grain of salt because after the the situation went on for a bit longer, selen merch was still available on their website despite all else being taken down(as of now I am not aware if that still is the case or if any purchases could be made through those links in the first place, but to me it speaks more on their poor management).

Thanks for the video, it's one of the more intelligent commentaries on the situation I've come across. You're a good speaker and I can see you've worked hard to emphasise the lack of concrete information we have at the moment, which is very helpful because I get the impression from the discourse that people either don't realise this, or are quick to forget it, or they don't care. I appreciate that you've deliberately avoided speculation.
However, it's a disappointing video in terms of your focus on context: you provide a lot of context for Niji's claims but haven't provided the greater context of Niji's history as an employer. You can't look at Selen/Dokibird's story and not also consider their other failed overseas branches and how that harmed their workers, their history of morally questionable talent control policies (such as taking over accounts and speaking through their mouthpiece) and the other graduations of Nijisanji EN Vtubers and what that says about their practices. You have very little to say about the nature of the power imbalance between employer/employee, and are presenting this situation as if a) both sides have equal power, and b) as if both sides have equal credibility. They don't.

The statement that you can leave company at any time sounds like a lie to me. With how oppressive their contracts are, I doubt that it's as easy as that. Also, there was an alleged case in the past where a talent had to sue the company to leave on amicable terms instead of being terminated like Selen/Doki. So, I guess you can TRY to leave any time, but there are a lot of strings attached.

More people need to know this: most countries have specific clauses in non-disclosure agreement laws that let you break the NDA if the company is breaking laws. If a company you work for is abusing you and breaking labor laws, REPORT THEM AND SPREAD THE NEWS (although maybe talk to a lawyer beforehand)

34:05 “In my experience, *these things are helped when we as people are willing to slow down a bit and willing to let a situation just unfold a little more, to see what’s happening and what will happen down the road if anything is still gonna happen, and being willing to do that before making a call, if we really even **_should_** be making one at all.”*

I find it so delightfully karma filled to watch the way that people like me get exposed to these companies for the first time *because* they do something horrible like this
    Like..
Bad publicity sure ain't good anymore. If my first exposure to a company is like this, I'm intentionally avoiding it.
I'm sure I'm also not the only one where, when a company's ad is annoying enough and keeps getting played, I get more and more avoidant of the company and more likely to look at their competitors instead, hah.
If companies would just try to treat their talent and staff and such as people and not cogs, a lot of this wouldn't happen, and they'd save so much money that they've instead lost in stock and in recovery and all.
The fact that they had some of their talent be a mouthpiece for that black screen video too just. Irks me.
You don't share info to others like that without explicit permission, nasty behavior.

Thank you so much for covering this. While I understand why so many people are very emotional when reporting about this. And while I do agree with a lot of their talking points. It's always good when someone takes a step back at times and say "wait. There could be other contributing factors to point A or we might not have or even be able to get the whole story in regards to point B". Again I get why people are angry and am right there with them in all honesty. This whole scenario stinks worse than an unearthed septic tank and most of the smell does seem to be coming from Any Color as a company. But it is always important to look at any scenario more objectively than emotionally. So you coverage is both refreshing and appreciated.

    I picture it like this:
Selen gets terminated. A big mass of people are looking at Nijisanji with anger in their eyes.
Nijisanji post their report using the word "neglible".
Now that crowd is armed with torches and pitchforks.
Three livers of Nijisanji release a statement to the situation.
Now the crowd starts marching and chanting "SINK THE YACHT!!!"
And this won't be the end of it all...
My heart goes out to Doki. I hope she will find her peace and quiet soon.

  • @sbatou87

IIRC, the audio which Doki had made was test audio, and wouldn't actually be published anywhere. Also, since Doki is from Canada, it has single-party consent.
Those from Niji-EN really should have just shut their mouths, and let their own legal handle their statements. But because they opened said mouths, they could possibly find themselves in court as co-defendants in the future.
FYI, I am not a lawyer.

I really enjoy the way that kwite goes over situations like this. In particular, the neutrality. The thought process of “I don’t think that there’s enough information to decide a definitive answer, and thus I will wait until there is more” Is one that is shockingly rare in today’s day and age.
I’m not really one for big Internet controversy (hell UA-cam is kind of my only social media) but if I am to get into it, this is how I think it should be done. To strip apart all biases and look at both parties, as what they are, and what they are presenting. And then using that knowledge to make an answer.
Anyhoo, I’m not important enough to be making any claims, and I’m not interested enough to follow this wherever it goes. I just feel like this style of reviewing something should be more wide stream.

Normally I would agree but the fact that Niji actively pretended to be Doki on her social media and instead of just saying something like "hey this is Niji tweeting from Selen's account, shes unwell and will be on hiatus for a bit" or SOMETHING, they have the gall to try to decieve the public into thinking that they are her. This isnt just a corporation speaking on behalf of a talent. this is management trying to decieve the public and neglect their talent.
