I ask myself how could I be so affected by the life/death of someone I didn’t even know personally? Then I remember how many times his music touched my soul and I understand the reason why he'll always be part of my life...
Chris Cornell became a god post Soundgarden. I will not debate this. His 2011 Album songbook of all his songs, done live acoustically, cemented him as the greatest lead vocalist ever in my opinion. When you strip away the band, and his voice stands alone with just the soft touch of the acoustic guitar, he soars to unimageable heights.
His tone effects the soul. Out of all his talents, the power, the range, the vibrato, the distortion, his tone is what makes him untouchable. IMO of course.
Everytime I can hear Chris' voice... Man... I swear, my heart starts cry. Fortunatelly We can still hear him.... Thanks, Ken... For every single one of your videos...
This man and his music soothed me and saved me so many times. I hope he knew and knows how many people like me felt we weren't alone because of his songs and the gift of himself he gave to us. I will never not be sad he's gone but i am thankful we still have his songs to get us through.
Chris mentioned in interviews that just as he had to make adjustments in his technique to get the best range as he got older, he had found that reflecting emotional feelings became easier and more natural to do! The GOAT of rock singers past present and most likely the future! At his prime he had no limits, ability wise! The Stevie ray Vaughn of singers, being able to physically match his abilities with his emotions, seemingly effortlessly
Listen to anything from "Songbook" if you liked this, just Chris and his guitar. I was lucky enough to see him tour for this album in Detroit, Dec. 4 2011. He was set up just how you see him here. Unassuming, no rock star shit. Just a big persian rug, surrounded by guitars. He was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans. Opened with "What's so Funny Bout Peace, Love and Understanding." He interacted with the crowd by telling a few brief stories in between songs. I have seen a lot of concerts in my life. Including Soundgarden at Lollapalooza but never a lead singer doing their thing alone, no one backing them. And you're right, the connection with him and the crowd, just a man, his voice and guitar was amazing. It was so personal (and more endearing if that's even possible) to hear him sing songs I've heard before without the extra noise of the other instruments hiding him. You could hear more of the power, pain and nuance that make him who he is. It was only a few years later we lost him, in Detroit of all places. I almost went to that concert as well but life got in the way. I wish I had gotten to see him one last time. I miss you old friend.♥️
It is genuinely sad to hear him sing these songs considering he is not with us anymore. I saw him in an acoustic set a year before his passing where he had requested that no alcohol he permitted during the concert. During the concert he explained a lot of the reasons why, you really felt for him. What a great man, a great voice and great talent. Miss you man.
Ken Ken Ken please do When I’m Down live at the Troubadour. It’s my all time favorite live performance of anyone ever! Goosebumps guaranteed! 🙂 You obviously know so much about music and vocals and could get super technical but you listen with your heart and it’s a wonderful balance ❤️
Ken Ken Ken! Time for more Chris! When I’m Down live at the Troubadour. It’s my favorite ever and I just love and respect your reactions and am still dying for you to react to this! Beth Roars finally did and I never saw her so speechless!🙏 🙂 Also I’ve seen multiple vocal coaches argue about if he’s a tenor or baritone? Most say baritone. Why do they not agree? If you are a vocal coach isn’t it something everyone would agree on? Please school me Ken!!!!!
I love and miss Chris so much and I'd never heard this before. I'm not crying you're crying. Thanks to whoever suggested this and thank you for reacting to it
Well, I'm in tears..I'm 12 years sober from alcohol..and I know exactly what Chris meant with the 2 drinks away from crying...Now I have to listen to a happier song..By the way, I love your comments about Chris Ken!,, Keep it up!
Wide awake acoustically by him is another song that will make you go holy poop. Everytime I saw him live, I was left amazed and I never got that with other artists. He was just always on and living in that moment. Even the little quick stories in-between songs had that wow feeling.
3 years late to finding this when searching for a reaction to Nothings Compares to You. This and the reaction to Nothing Compares to you are two of the best reaction videos I’ve seen on here. Really well done and will be following.
Wow. Another amazing reaction to an amazing song, and please remember we're here for your reaction and commentary. We could always go watch the video by itself if we didn't want what you offer.
I subscribed! This man was so beautiful in very way. I close my eyes as tears well up. I've been a long time fan. Something the younger people of this generation need to appreciate. "No one sings like you anymore." RIP Chris. Always & forever.
What an emotionally complex gentleman. Hindsight's 20/20, but so many of his lyrics now sound like desperate pleas for help... Tell your family and friends how much they mean to you, every chance you get. While listening, Chris Stapleton's 'Sometimes I Cry' came to mind. Would love to hear Stapleton cover some Cornell material. I believe he'd do it justice. Be Blessed, SIR!
I don't see them as pleas. He had access to resources. I think he dealt with it for a really long time, trying to find relief wherever he could drugs, alcohol, family. Mostly through music. He was close to that point between Euphoria Mourning and Audioslave. He seemed worn down and he definitely was on some sort of drug for the few months before his death. He was way out of it, during live performances. Perhaps his go to solaces weren't working very well anymore. No one will know for sure.
Chris is baring his innermost soul of souls in this haunting tune ...you can taste the mist of emotion that surrounds him..I wept and I will weep again ,for this beautiful ,talented unassuming human .
First, thanks so much for reacting to Chris' music. It's all amazing. You should check out his cover of Billie Jean, unless you already have and I've missed it somehow. OH, and the live version of his "When I'm Down" is one of the greatest vocal performances ever!
I was blessed to have seen him twice Audioslave and solo acoustic show...wish I could have seen him with Soundgarden. I take both anytime then nothing. RIP Chris
The power of Chris. BTW, Ken was equally stricken reacting to another Cornell performance, his cover of “Nothing Compares to You.” Yet another that hits like a gut punch is his harrowing “I am the Highway” with Audioslave. Bracing stuff.
@@grungemusicfan thank you for that mate, I will check out Ken's review of Chris' cover of Nothing Compares To You right now. Far out I miss Chris so much
Loved your reaction! really supprised that not more people have reacted to this performance thou, and i agree on the camera angles, also closed my eyes first time i saw this XD
I just watch a mojo thing. Songs that make you feel more now. They had like a stone. I say this one should have been the song. I went straight to this song and found you. This would have been my pick. I like your channel for sure too.
Brilliant move going after this performance. I'm hoping someone will react to their surprise reunion warmup show under the anagram name "Nudedragons" where he sings an unsingable song called "Beyond The Wheel" from the early days of 1980's Soundgarden and nails it at 50 something.
You need to react to The HU from Mongolia. Wolf Totem, Yuve Yuve Yu, Shireg shireg they are the coolest awesomest band in the world and if you ever have an opportunity to see them live take it.
Brilliant, I really love your 'reacts to' Videos! I had the luck to see him live with Audioslave in Cologne. I would be very glad if you could aim for a react to 'Like a stone' from Audioslave. Fun fact: The Guitarist of Audioslave is Tom Morello from 'Rage against the Machine'.

I ask myself how could I be so affected by the life/death of someone I didn’t even know personally? Then I remember how many times his music touched my soul and I understand the reason why he'll always be part of my life...
Ab-so-lutely nailed it. Whoever said it.

The greatest rock vocalist ever! Fight me!
Chris Cornell, Robert Plant, David Draiman, and then a BIG dropoff til you get to the next one.

There's always a handful of people that belong in the greatest (whatever). He's on that list, but I think Freddie Mercury is at the top.

Chris is my favorite male vocalist. I had never heard this before. I'm thankful to hear it now.
I'm close to crying. A total masterpiece. I love this.
That whole sound check at "Walmart " is EPIC. There's at least 6+ songs. A haunting reminder of how good he was.
