I'm happy my react request was taken in consideration. I'm grateful for your kind and wise words Michael. Your community is an incredibly safe and supportive one, and i appreciate all the support and guidance I recieved.
An amazing artist, vocalist, man, human being. This track has been under my skin for ages. C.C. is a masterpiece who used to walk this fuckin'weird planet. Nothing compares to him ! 💔🌹🌏✨✨✨
Chriss cornell is a top 3 for me, but I've got to say that you as a reactor are amazing as well; always giving such insightful commentary, you're not stuffy at all, and i dont play guitar so your ability to pick up the notes being played on the spot is incredible to me. Keep it up.
GG member here, I have to take Chris in small doses, a little at a time because his desperation is so palpable. I've been in that place many times myself, but I can say now things are better. The man was one hell of a songwriter and so sorely missed. No one sings like him anymore.
I really appreciate you talking about depression and how to still keep on hoping and rather than drinking try to find joy and hope in the people and experiences around us. There's so much indifference in this world and we have to take every chance to help each other with supportive kind words or even tough love!
Dude, Cornell was a powerhouse with his voice and talent! He is greatly missed! As someone myself who has also battled with depression, anxiety, and PTSD, you can feel the pain in his voice and man it is just RAW. Totally right Michael, none of us are alone and we all need to be there for each other. Even if it's just that person to be there and listen. Music for me has always been one of the greatest outlets and brings me to an entirely different place, away from here. Each day is a new chance to LIVE life! ✌️
Been listen to CC All week. And now this.. amazing! Thanks Sober for 3.5 Years now.. life is tough but Theres nothing thats so bad that a relapse cant make it even worse
When you said “ and he didn’t make it “ it sounded like you had a hard time with those words and you were about to lose it….that broke me up….R.I.P the great Mr Cornell….🙏🏻🌸🌸🙏🏻
Love it…remember, don’t ever search your soul when you feel like crap… you’ll just find crappy answers. Pay attention to what feels good and relentlessly feed it. What you feed grows. Then, if you want to search your soul, you can see what is really true. Peace and love brother… Alan
I watched Chris in concert twice in 2011 & 2015 including front row in 2015 absolutely amazing voice best vocal performances in any concerts I have seen. Sang this song each time and stunning both times. I struggled to listen to his solo work for a while after he died. I’ve not worn the concert T-shirt since. His weird guitar tunings make a lot of his songs a sound different, Seasons would be my favourite song of his & my favourite acoustic song of all time.
He is hard to listen to without getting a tear in my eye I love him so much!!!! What a great singer! One of the best voices if not The Best rock vocalist ever! The greatest loss for music 😵💫 of my generation!
I listened to pain and despair music for decades, nurturing my worthlessness. I found help, hope, compassion and acceptance. My musical choices reflect that. Always so grateful that we only have to do this one day at a time. 💕🙋🎶🙏
Thank you for this one. I often get into other vibes of music but I come back to musicians and writers like Chris....Jerry Cantrell, Travis Meeks etc as a point of release and relief, a cathartic process if you will.
I’ve been an alcoholic for many years and have been to AA and rehab with minimal success, it’s a battle every day Michael but all I can do is try, keep up the content love it man just love it! Lately I’ve been trying to tone it down a bit and enjoy life instead of drinking it away. I now try to use alcohol as a mood enhancer rather than a crutch. God bless, be well and stay safe
To the guy from Saudi Arabia. I am an alcoholic and have been for 35 years. I don't drink anymore. I don't know if it's casual or problematic for you, but believe me I have been there and I know how ALL of it feels. I will never get back all of the years I wasted sitting on a barstool. Fun at the time, but believe me none of those relationships last. You can't remember them. I find comfort in things like playing guitar. It fill that little hole in my soul. All depression has one thing in common. Loneliness. I don't know if you know this but you are pretty fuckin far from being alone. There are brothers and sister out there who can tell my story and yours about alcohol. AA helped me out a lot. I don't have to go. I love it. Thayre the family I was always looking for.
I always appreciate your videos and the rawness and honesty of them. I also love that you give guitar lessons and life lessons at the same time. You're using two gifts that the good Lord gave you. Thank you.
My teacher always described depression as a collapse of feeling try to feel your hurt completely we are the "self contraction" collapsed in on ourselves if we feel to infinity, then the depression will go away "I hear you talking about your troubles, Everybody's got their troubles too But you can make them burst like bubbles if you know just what to do I'll take a simple C to G and feel brand new about it" Allen Toussaint (I'll take a Melody) `
Would love it if you’d do some of Ben Howard’s stuff. I suggest you go watch End of The Affair live at Jools Holland. But the recent stuff is also very interesting.
This song is off (IMO) a criminally underrated album - Scream - which he did with producer Timbaland. This is really the only song on that album that even has any guitar in it. The rest of the album is basically an electronic rock fusion. A lot of his fans hated it because it was such a departure but I thought the album was brilliant. His vocals are insane on this and the album is sort of a concept album in a way as each song just blends seamlessly into the next one with only 1 or 2 breaks the whole album. Worth a listen start to finish. It's really good if you can get past what type of music you expect from Christ Cornell.
Thank you Mike that was greatly appreciated.. I find sometimes all it takes is to hear someone else talk about depression that knows and understands to feel better.. I also have battlefield my entire life depression. Music 🎵 is the only thing that's works for me. It took years to figure that out.. thanks again 🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸
Let me preface this by saying I'm not a guitar player. I am a high school math teacher who dabbles with the piano now and then. I love this channel and your analysis, not only of music theory (which I'm sorely lacking in) but also for the more philosophical matters. While I don't play guitar, what I do a lot of is competitive road cycling. Pre-pandemic I was rolling with people half my age and loving how I felt. But in the last year, between being busy with school things and life in general, my fitness has taken something of a hit and I find myself thinking too often "man, I used to be able to keep up with these guys" instead of putting in the work and looking forward, not back. That changes now. Thanks for what you do.
First a big thank you to Hamad for this request. Michael thank you for fulfilling Hamad's request. Chris Cornell was a great guitarist. He was a badass!! Too bad he let the demons win.
I would highly recommend Chris' acoustic version of Like A Stone (Chris Cornell - Like a Stone Acoustic Live (Unplugged Sessions @ AOL)) He was one of a kind.
Chris is one of a kind and sorely missed. Michael, man, you've got to listen to Lucas Imbiriba cover "Like a Stone." I know you'll fall down the rabbit hole of Lucas' channel once you hear him play. If memory serves, he's from Brazil and plays some classical latin stuff, too.
There’s a performance by Aaron Lewis, singing a song called Intro. Just howling it into the crowd without a microphone. Has the same feel to it. Check it out
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him will have everlasting life john3:16. Brilliant vid, great choice. And some great points made. From personal experience alcohol doesn't solve anything, it just puts it on pause. And sometimes exacerbate it. Life is so much better without it and with a clear head.
Our society and culture doesn't allow for people with depression and problems with addiction to get better. People in general look down on anyone with issues like these, and they are meant to feel like it's their fault and they should just "suck it up" and deal with it on their own, be a man, get back to work, etc. Chris, Layne, Kurt, Scott, Chester...should all still be alive today, if they lived in a culture where people and life are seen as valuable and not just biological labor producing robots and performers.
Idk..you hear seattle talk , they all blame his wife for being overwhelming..we haven't a crystal ball , but soundgarden can prove she was being greedy and wanted to control the band !? Whoa put the brakes on, Icky !! Come to a complete stop, fangs are starting to show!!!!!

So true. It just flowed out of him.

100%. We all forget that we all are fighting an internal battle. The true fight is within - and no matter what people say - they all know it's true.

I was two rows from Chris a week before he passed in Atlanta, and he seemed so at peace. I still miss him terribly.
My favorite CC song. DAMN was he good. What a voice & soul... I miss him so much.

YES! That performance on Jools Holland is stellar. Just as memorable is the Depth Over Distance performance, live in Frankfurt 22.11.11
