Chris Cornell Walmart Soundcheck AS HOPE AND PROMISE FADE

- One of the most affecting highlights from 'Songbook' is a once-hidden tune that's become a fan favorite: 'As Hope And Promise Fade.' Originally released under the name 'Two Drink Minimum' (and featured as a hidden track on his third solo album, 'Scream'), the track's lyrics somehow become more powerful in an acoustic setting. Sings Chris: "I'm never more than two drinks away from crying."
One man, his voice and a guitar. The entire billboard hot 100 can't touch this
Josh Araujo
No kidding... People don't even know what real music is anymore
fuck yeah
Josh Araujo This Man,,We were so Lucky to have its a Devastating Loss!! I'm still Not over,.& never will be!! *Chris Cornell* #Legend In Our Hearts *Forever* ❤
You said it bro as real as it gets right
Facts brother
That song…Pierced my heart my soul. Beauty and pain intertwined. Timeless and soulful like he was. Thank you for the music and poetry you created for the world to feel and appreciate.
This has to be a top 10 all time performance of any song ever.
“Now the ride is over, it’s hard to say goodbye”... it’s hard to say goodbye, Chris...
No one sings like you anymore. That voice... angelic.
That is the sound of a man in a lot of pain, doing all he can to find peace through his music.
R.I.P., Chris. May your music touch the souls of other people, for whom Hope and Promise Fade every day. You deserved so much more in life, and unfortunately nobody ever truly gave it to you. May your next life be kinder on you, and may people treat you well now that you have passed.
The most beautiful voice that I ever heard. There was absolutely nothing that Chris couldn’t sing. So happy God gave us Chris as long as He did. Miss and love and will always be in our hearts ♥️ R.I.P. Beautiful Keeper 🙏🏽🕊 Thank you for sharing this beautiful video and God Bless🙏🏽 Can’t help but cry when I hear his beautiful voice♥️
I could listen to this man all day and night. Incredible voice!!!
Anita grey I do listen to Chris alone and I listen to him with Sound Garden and then Temple of the dog and then Sound Garden again and then Chris again and then listened when he played with different people the AudioSlave and back to Sound Garden May 16-17 2017 till he was murdered that wee hour of the morning AND HE WAS MOST CERTAINLY MURDERED no matter what his wife who I believed he very much still there was a reason why she lied to save her kids lives and her own I believe he would absolutely fight to the death but he would die for his family because that was the kind soul that he was empathically I understand him I will inevitably die for Bebe Daniels Borsey but before I do I’m taking the ghoulish scum out first!!!
R.I.P. = Return If Possible
Please!
Martiina91 we're begging
Martiina91 Oh, *Chris* PLEASE?,.DO!! You've No Idea how much We All Miss You!!. ❤
U WAS TOTALLY gonna like this comment but it had 69 likes
Rock In Perpetuity
So versatile. Metal, grunge, soul, blues, ballads, and more. His tenor yelps are famous, but what a bluesy baritone with those glissando notes.
I miss him more than all the rest...
Incorrect
I do too
Me too my guy
😔
Im with you
Been an alcoholic for 2 years now and this song always makes me cry. So much beauty in the lyrics I want to be just like Chris I am a guitarist and songwriter and he is my biggest aspiration. I’ll overcome this addiction but this song is so beautiful and haunting. I am always 2 drinks away from crying. Rest In Peace Chris
I get it
Still feels like crying. Voice of an angel, no one else but him who left too soon.
for some reason, out of all his acoustic songs, this one is by far the best of the best in my opinion
I'm listening to this recording for the first time, and it's even better than the one on Songbook. It doesn't get any better than this.
Hurts as much today as it did 4 years ago. R.I.P. CC
Unbelievable talent. Surely one of the most underrated and underappreciated Artists - with a capital A - of all time. Music is going through a terrible phase, where every song is made out of plastic and everyone only thinks and cares about how good every singer or band looks. Now that this man is gone, I can say that almost all hope is lost. Thank you for all you left the world, Chris. You were and will always be one of my heroes.
Carlos Matos perfect words
We still have Jerry Cantrell doing great things.
But yeah, Chris had a wonderful mind.
Carlos Matos TRUER WORDS HAVE NEVER BEEN SAID!!!
Carlitos Matos
I disagree with you when you say that Chris was underrated. Every person who loves great music knew the magnificent talent of this beautiful man.
I’d even argue that Chris wouldn’t have liked more exposure. He and the likes from Seattle didn’t like the mainstream. And that’s the reason we love these guys so much.
On the other hand, Chris was and will ever be a musician that few people can touch, if any. That my friend is a sad true.
Have a nice day!
Jackie,
Thank you for your opinion.
I will agree that he wasn't underrated by all those who really appreciate music as an art form. He was truly loved and respected for the Artist that he was.
However, and even if the "Seattle bunch" didn't like to be in the spotlight, he was highly disregarded by the mainstream music industry. Perhaps it was a good thing, perhaps it wasn't. I don't know. The sad truth is that he's gone and no one will ever replace him. All the other good ones are quiet now and some day will also be gone. And all that'll be left will be the soulless plastic junk we are surrounded by nowadays.
Have a nice day too, and since it's almost here, a very happy Christmas!
Such a Beautiful haunting Bliss.
Lyrics:
As hope and promise fade
And the sun forgets to rise
I'm lonely and I'm thirsty
But it's better I stay dry
Never more than two drinks away from crying
Stare into the glass
And wait for the time to pass
I thank you for the offer
But you know I must decline
Never more than two drinks away from crying
There used to be a time when I could hold my head up high
My life laid out before me
And rivers flowed with wine
I had my love beside me and everything was fine
Now the ride is over, it's hard to say goodbye
As hope and promise fade
And midnight turns to day
Well I'm lonely and I'm thirsty
But I cannot tell a lie
Never more than two drinks away from crying
SandraNely Thankyou! And So True! Miss you *Chris* ❤
Thanks!
Thank you!
Still the most haunting, heartwrenching, and beautiful version. Brings me to the verge of tears most every time.
I didn't require 2 drinks today to be crying all day and night
I have lost a piece of my heart and soul and my thoughts go out to his wife and children
Another moving, beautiful performance by Chris Cornell.
What a loss to music ... and a heartbreak for his family.
Now the ride is over
Time to say goodbye
Rest In Peace Chris
Chilling shit
Such a beautiful song sung with a beautiful voice. Such a handsome man. Has beautiful blue eyes. I miss you. You will live on through your music ❤❤❤
I miss this man so much !!
Beyond genius and into a realm of incandescent sadness and beauty
God I miss this man
Greatest of all time
Chris Cornell and his guitar is the 5th element! What's crazy is his voice didn't sound this good until you remove the drummer, electric guitar, and bass. Pure haunting beauty at it's best.
So true
Hope , faith , sad , desperation all in one , no one sing like you anymore mr chris 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Songbook is my all time favourite album. Unreal voice.
just sitting here... litsnening to all the great music of this man... appreciating the talent and beauty and tragedy that is Chris Cornell. His music (to me) is timeless. But, I have to ask.,, am I the only one that listens to CC about every other day? Does this hit me too personally? I ask myself, Why? I have no familial, or personal connection. but, only through his music. That angst, tempo, melody, and unmatched structure of his voice.... to me, this man will always be MY JOHN LENNON. I mean no disrespect to John Lennon. Really, it is a testament of the quality of his own musicianship that those like JOHN LENNON, JIMMY HENDRIX, JANIS JOPLIN< KURT COBAIN, JIM MORRISON, AlLBERT KING,,... Hell I could go on. But, Chris Cornell, this voice of a generation, was also speaking of the myriad of people who DAILY cope with their own demons. He had only the best and most beautiful way of placing his own pain and personal darkness into song that only he could -but he easily did so with such beauty and grace. To Mr. Cornell, I say only this... your music speaks to me on so many levels, and I will forever appreciate all the best qualities of what your musicianship has so blessed this sick, sad world with. The beauty in your humanity and decency in yoursoulful spirit... The world has forever been graced with a true musical legend, given to us only by the grace of a real and LOVING GOD. Chris Cornell, may you forever R.I.P. amidst the garden of '"gods".
I drove 8 hours the other day with Chris Cornell playing the whole way.
A D i too listen to chris daily and his music goes straigt to my soul. I have many favorite artists but chris cornell's music has got so much feeling and emotion that i can literally listen to it all the time. I'm more fond of his solo acoustic stuff but all his stuff is solid. Nobody I can think of puts as much raw emotion in their music as chris cornell did and he was the real deal. John Lennon was maybe the best song writer of his time but although chris was heavily influenced by john Lennon's music he was far beyond anything john Lennon ever made in my opinion.
You are not alone dude. Younare not alone...
I too listen every day to his haunting amazing tunes A D. only just discovered him about a year ago (I know, how can that be). i knew Audioslave and Sound Garden but true Chris. he touches my soul like no other
Believe me you are not the only one that feels that way. I listen to him daily no matter what. His voice carries pain, beauty and joy all in one. No one compares to him. I only wish I could've seen him perform live. That would've been something I'd never ever forget.
Wish you still here 😪
If I drew a perfect human being, it would be certainly Chris Cornell. Fascinating artist, surreal man. Captivating performance. Absolutely, NO words for THIS ♥️
God damn what a voice
Crushed that this GREAT VOICE is gone !!!!
I miss you Chris....
No one sings like you anymore 😥
His phrasing in this song couldn't possibly be better... It's what gives the song so much soul. Spectacular
@chriscornell
For me, Hope and Promise faded today. #RIPChrisCornell #ChrisCornell #RIP
Indeed.... fucking legend.
majd z now the ride is over time to say good bye ...cannot tell a lie ..I'm crying.
World is a sadder place without him
Probably the best song i have ever heard. The pain in that scream in the end is chilling
He was such an amazing talent - and as said many times before a lovely soul inside and out 💙
I had to watch this AGAIN.. One of my favorite performances of his.... It's too bad he's gone!

❤
If you can't watch this.
And just accept the fact that he's absolutely the best of his genre and generation.
I don't know what else you need.
Miss you bro.... stars belongs to heaven....
How are there 52 people who dislike this. I need to speak with them. Who hurt you?
Had the privilege to see Chris Cornell a few times over the years, I'm glad I make those efforts otherwise I would have missed one of the all time great singer/songwriters that have graced the airwaves RIP legend.
I thought the version of this from Songbook was perfect but I love this one as well. It's mellower and more restrained.
The Walmart-session is just pure gold.
I'm feeling so much grief right now and can't imagine what his family must be going through. I'm not an emotional man but this chocked me up, what a great singer /songwriter.
so perfect in every way. so glad we have this, thankyou Chris.
My heart is still broken.
That VOICE
Great voice..songwriter..soulful and authentic..that's what's missing a bit these days..just sayin ✌
Timeless
I still think I'd have liked to have heard the harmonica parts in this version too but damn this is such a great version. I imagine Chris in Heaven , making Angels weep with that voice.
Drinking alone, listening to this in a foreign bar and a foreing land. Deep thoughts about life, about the things that could have been but are no longer … what else could be better.
This is the voice of a falling man, God will never have a wondrous chant like this.
This tune is a cautionary tale . As sure as I'm sitting here this beautiful man was baring his very soul ..I have personal thoughts/ opinions about what he was thinking while he penned this tune and what he was thinking while singing it ..you can literally see the pain in his physical appearance...his face ..his eyes..he looks and sounds as if he could cry at any given moment....we will never truly grasp the amount of loss , talent and humanity that somehow ,some way slipped through the cracks of mental anguish, heartache and delusions of over all well being on that horrible ,ill fated , damned tragedy during the early morning hours of May 18th ,2017 ..I've mourned Chris Cornells death as if he were immediate family ..I miss him ....his absence is felt on a daily basis..I'd gladly give a limb to bring him back ....♥️✌😪🤘
First time hearing some of these songs from this performance...there is so much emotion here...genuinely love them.
Beautiful voice, beautiful heart...always remember this.

Incredible song !!! I really love this acoustic performance ! Amazing voice...
Pretty much a vocal solo. What talent.
Beautifully depressed 🖤 One and only...
What a peace of art
Ashame that Walmart had to stain this beautiful song and video.
I came to listen to Chris, not to become sea sick! The camera work here is so bad.. But I'd endure worse things if I could just listen to Chris sing.
The most convincing male vocalist of our generation..sadly went searching for his prime moment.
The greatest always go too soon. Only a few in my mind, can compare. Pure soul
I love you, Cornell.
rest in peace Chris...
The BEST.
Cuando vengo aquí, mil recuerdos invaden mi cabeza, y una sola persona mi mente, ciertamente es difícil decir adiós.

I love this. I mourn the loss of this beautiful man and his voice
Você nunca morre!
After hearing this I bought Songbook which is fantastic. But this version of the song is even better. He would have been a great blues singer.
The original song is a blues song! It's on Scream.
BEAUTIFUL !!!!!
Cada palavra dói na alma. Obrigado por nos libertar de nossas dores com a sua arte.
So happy he performed this one for Walmart
Fuckin beautiful!!! RIP Chris!!!
I will always Love you my friend. Remember I Love you more, yes I do
You are missed Chris
Cornell also said once the first time he had that phone with him it was one of his first acoustic shows and it was such a good show that he keeps it with him as good luck
te amo chris
Neskutečný zážitek, prožitek, um. Mám ho za nejúžasnějšího zpěváka vůbec. To, že umí skvěle na kytaru a u toho zpívat jako bůh, to mu jen přidává. Dokonalost :)
4 years gone already 😢
