    IMO the RAFT is a ship that would be used to unload hull series C,D,E from stations to landing zones on planets or moons, rinse and repeat 100 times . It would most likely travel along with the large hull series ships thru the verse for that purpose. That is why it has such large quantum fuel tanks. I also think CIG should make a RAFT variant that is a MASH med unit, for near front line use. One big medical unit that can be flown in, dropped off then picked up later, like an ARGO cargo box. It would be great for ground battles, natural disasters, and remote bases etc.

    • @DougieOh
      @DougieOh 2 роки тому

      I bought one immediately after renting it at the show for exactly this reason.
      I also see the RAFT as an instant classic.
      It's interior is very livable. Compare that to the tub that is the Cutlass or the hallway that is the Freelancer. You can actually get out of bed, make a cup of coffee, sit at a table and plan your day. You can then step into an antechamber, shower, change into armor and arm yourself, and then return to the front of the vessel to venture out.
      In the Cutlass you've got to put the ramp down to poo off the back.
      In the Freelancer you're pooping in the hallway and then eating in the captain's chair.
      As far as functionality it clobbers those other ships. In addition to the lighter role, it can also unload the materials from a CO Pioneer and drop them at a worksite for building a base or FARP, as well as being incredibly useful in hauling ores to refineries allowing MOLEs to stay on-station. Your idea of a medical response unit is another good example of the large number of roles that this ship could play.

      @@DougieOh Yes I do agree CIG is doing much better at interior designs compared to the older ships. I picked up a 400i for that very reason and have a Taurus to see what will happen when CIG brings it up to gold standard. The only drawback that I see with the RAFT is, it can't transport vehicles, but who knows what's in future plans.

    I can't wait to buy one, though I have other ships that can perform the same function. I am a former truck driver and this ship has the feel of what a space truck would be like to me.

    The Argo look is fantastic. I’ve been using this for my refinery orders and now just grabbing cargo around the verse. Biggest issue is getting in on the elevator. It’s glitched for me and gets me stuck half in the ground about 1/3 of the time. Besides that, I love it.

    Not going to buy this one but it does seem well designed. This is great example of CIG getting better at designing and building ships in regard to future proofing.

    this ship is perfect for people who only want to run cargo and are not thinking of buying more than one ship. you can use this until you have enough money to buy a better hauler with UEC, and when you do and use that one as your main hauler, having a RAFT around will still have its value to use it to load and unload your cargo once you're at base. If you start with another hauler and then buy a better one in game, you're left with a useless, smaller hauler collecting dust in your hangar never to be used for anything meaningful.

    The Bulk Actuated Relocation for Goods Enterprise, or BARGE (working name) will be Argo's answer to the MAX, and carry 192 SCU in six 32 SCU freight containers.
    It will also have a small docking station proprietarily designed for an ARGO MPUV, so it now competes against the Taurus with a feature it sacrificed for more cargo.
    Shrek: Like that'll ever happen!

  • @Julia-mx3ki
    @Julia-mx3ki 2 роки тому +2

    I picked one up because I love the ARGO style. Was just a 10$ upgrade from my Cutty. I'll probably miss how versatile the Cutty is but you can't argue with doubling the cargo space and having a great looking interior. Also: Space Turtle.
    I think in-game it'll play the role shunting locomotives do in our world: "Loading and unloading" bigger trains and transporting cargo around the freightyard but also being able to do trips delivering the cargo to places the bigger trains can't go to. The SC equivalent would be unloading and loading Hull-Ds and Es, and bringing the containers to their final destination where the big ships won't / can't make port.

    • @mmoon72
      @mmoon72 2 роки тому

      I decided to add this to my Cutty Black. I go ROC mining so I need to have a vehicle that can transport it. I also do trade routes to make some extra cash. I'll be able to use the RAFT for this without unloading the ROC once they get the elevator bug fixed. I lost a 150000 credit load by falling through the planet trying to walk on the elevator on my first trip out in it.

  • @Dracounguis

    Until the cargo container mechanic is in the game this ship is at a severe detriment compared to the Freelancer Max. The Raft is very slow, a very big target, has minimal firepower, & can't carry any vehicles. Depending on how much weight you put on 'creature comforts', that's really the only thing it has going for it over other cargo ships, atm. But it is cheaper than the Freelancer Max so you can always buy it and CCU up if it doesn't meet your requirements.

    I have bigger Cargo ships but I really just love the design of this ship. I have a CCU but have not activated it to see what the Cargo revamp is about. it's something you can fly a single person with a computer blade to automate the remote turret, and if you are in a pinch you can drop your cargo easily in the case of sensitive/explosive cargo.

  • @jch1386

    Visually the RAFT is probably not what most people will want, but its hard to deny that its insanely well crafted to follow a theme.

  • @Hyde-Jahf

    The lack of picking up a ROC killed it for my uses. And yep, I know that's exactly not what is intended. I'd LOVE a Flatbed attachment that removes the cargo freight boxes and gives a loadable platform. Until then (not holding my breath) I'll hold my breath that either CNOU or Argo makes a vehicle hauler. Nomad would work IF you could exit the ROC without backing it in and if it had more fuel ... so ... the ball is in CNOU's court!

    • @jasonp.1195
      @jasonp.1195 2 роки тому

      I'd love to see exactly that 'flatbed' option - something equipped with the standard cargo mag locking surface.
      Could be considered a baby roll on/roll off vehicle ferry or as a good option for transporting outsized oddball cargos like salvaged weapons, larger ship components.

    As a space trucker / trader fan, I don't currently have the Argo RAFT in my fleet, but am considering buying it. The point I find interesting is that it is less likely to be robbed in the RAFT, as you can unload faster and at the same time you don't have to get out.

    I wouldn’t mention the BMM for preloaded cargo containers. To me the BMM is not a bulk hauler it’s a unique game loop of visiting several places and trading / selling lots of different small quantities of items and not sliding bars at the to and from locations

  • @adamclay2161
    @adamclay2161 2 роки тому

    If the ship’s role will be a bridge between outposts and ships like the Hull C and the BMM, then the RAFT will most likely always stay planetside or go on short distance cargo runs that don’t warrant a fully loaded Hull.

  • @dwayneholloway9364
    @dwayneholloway9364 2 роки тому

    Cargo hauling is going to be very different to cargo shuttling. The mpuv will do small quantities but those high industrial worlds (where eventually the manufacturing focused organisation will be set up) will pay big to have the large containers unloaded from orbit and brought planetside. These orbiting ships and facilities will be well guarded so a short haul transport that can descend and ascend fast with minimal fire-power will be awesome gameplay.

  • @RoballTV

    This ship goes against my principle of only buying multi role ships, and earning specialists in game.
    It charmed me, so I got it, knowing full well that it's a one trick pony.
    The joy of simplicity, coziness and reliability I guess ^^

  • @Booozy3050
    @Booozy3050 2 роки тому +1

    I got one and after looking at the numbers the width is 23.0m, but with the vtol thrusters high and further out than the legs this might fit on a Liberator. Since a Gladiator is 22.5m. Have to do a one in front of the other test and have a look. Love the cab and crew quarters and easy access to airlock.

  • @dandini0698
    @dandini0698 2 роки тому

    Only bad thing about this ship is that there's no top airlock for the elevator. Other than that, its better priced for what it does compared to other ships. Yes CB and FL is more versatile, but in the verse threats wont come in the form of NPCs but player pirates with optimized builds that'll destroy any of these 3. Better armor may make a difference against smaller groups until we escape.
    Also the best looking industrial ship. Living area is awesome.

  • @JookySeaCpt
    @JookySeaCpt 2 роки тому

    It'll be interesting to see what they do with loading/unloading with the cargo refractor. Other cargo ships claim quick turnaround times as well. For instance, the Taurus is supposed to have a QuickHitch release system for quick unloading, and the Hull C's and up use the same boxes as the RAFT, so they should have a similar benefit.

  • @AP-ur3dv
    @AP-ur3dv 2 роки тому

    Right now, it seems like a niche ship, but whatever the future holds for how cargo is loaded it may become a game changer for hauling. Otherwise, I like to the liveability, very cool. I agree with the observations made by several others, the ship appears over designed for the amount of cargo it carries. Visually anyways. There seems to be several design features that haven't been addressed by CIG. The front bumpers, the pumping station on the top deck, the over elaborate cargo rail system seems unusual. Overall, I like it, just not multipurpose enough for me to grab one... yet.

    This is a ship that will have to wait until I indenting a real in game need to buy one. Mercury and Taurus at this stage will cover me in terms of being able to move cargo. Anything else is a specialized ship that has to prove to value first. I suspect this will end up being one I will do without unless a real compelling need to move boxes comes up for me.

  • @neonsamurai1348
    @neonsamurai1348 2 роки тому +1

    IMHO the ship needs another cargo container to be a good ship. It's cargo is pretty light for its size, and it is a pure cargo carrier unlike the the max which can general purpose for light AI combat, mining with a roc, salvaging, etc

    • @Leadnap
      @Leadnap  2 роки тому

      I think it is perfectly fine at 96 SCU. When you compare it to the MAX you are technically comparing out of class. There might be room to fit 5 boxes, but you are already over 1M KG in mass. If CIG loaded it up this thing would move at 25 m/s and players would hate that it is so slow.

    its a pass for me(a buy in game) as i have better options already. it does look good inside and out but CIG is getting better with each ship presented so this is to be expected. I do worry this ship will be forgotten quickly when the Haul B comes in game as its similarly priced but hold far more external cargo.

    • @Kazockas
      @Kazockas 2 роки тому

      I think where this will excel over the hull B, is going to remote outposts. To the best of my knowledge The Hull B does not have any slots for tractor beams so its going to be dependent on going to trade hubs to pick/drop off freight containers. This benefits in that it does have a dedicated tractor operator for loading/offloading said containers.

  • @andrewboyer7544
    @andrewboyer7544 2 роки тому

    You basically said it. I would have added that for a crew of two it has a huge crew area which feels wasted. That space could have easily allowed it to fit another cargo container. On looks and feel it's almost a sale for me.

    Another review that compares the base Freelancer. The Max is a fairer model to compare, albeit slightly more money. The Base Freelancer is obselete and one of the first ships released - and it can still carry a vehicle when the RAFT cant. I struggle with the Raft because it is so niche and lacking inflexiblity.

    It's a fantastic looking ship and I LOVE the interior... but it wasn't enough to peel me away from my Freelancer MAX. I'm not a fan of the Freelancer's awkward appearance, inside and out but its utility wins overall. When cargo is physicalised along with working tractor beam, this may change, but having bigger guns, more SCU capacity and the ability to carry vehicles made me stick with the space-phallus.

    Only thing that makes me hesitate to grab this ship is the look of the containers in the back. Those three just look like it's too little. Too small for the volume of the ship. And no, I am not calling for the amount of cargo, it's not about SCU units. It's simply the visual aspect, where the proportions of the ship don't match the mere three containers.

      @@Leadnap Ship with big place for cargo :) ..and yes containers are for cargo :) .. it is a cargo ship but is ment more for moving cargo on short distances. Like forklifter :) it's not a cargo vehicle but it can carries cargo.

    NIce and very informative guide as always Leadnap! I really wanna buy this, but I've already got the Railen...and I guess they pretty much overlap in functionality? Anybody have any thoughts?

    • @Overlegen
      @Overlegen 2 роки тому

      @Ekxso perhaps…. I’m a bit worried that the Railen has to small cargo capacity to be an effective long range hauler. I’m seeing it more of a shorter range or a blockade runner?

      @Leadnap  2 роки тому +1

      While the Railen stores cargo externally the boxes are fixed is my understanding. Sorbet both are limited to pure cargo and not vehicle transport. I don’t see them quite as competitors and more as a progression.

      @@Leadnap and @Ekxso perhaps you are right…..understand that you are now both responsible for me spending even more money on this game 😱
      Just kidding, happy to support this very promising game! And the Raft won’t be the first ship I have bought mostly because I just love the design and “feel” of it! 😂

    I like the beefy design, nevertheless the RAFT is currently far too bad compared to other ships, hope that changes when you have to load and unload the ship yourself.

    on warp if you go from kitcen to bridge... you go in space every time- worse bug ever for that ship. I test many many times so... Design is one of the best for industrail ships but loading more type of cargo is useless if you load another first- USELESS

    Hard pass for me. It'll be an awesome in game buy though. Especially when physical cargo is implemented. Right now there's a ton of better ships to buy with backing cash, even for the new player. I'd skip out on this one no matter what.

    The RAFT looks like a big ship with small cargo. The look is unbalanced. It needs a fourth container and then another entire row below it.

    I think the idea and think this is something you would see NPCs flying in the background. Its a pass for me...

    Oh ok I see now y'all are comparing it to the
    BASE FREELANCER.....
    Cuz I was about to say that the max has much more cargo space than the raft, lol
    But now I get it.

    Can’t help but look at it and visually see it should be able to carry those containers double stacked. Artificial nerfing.
