I've listened to this song 100's of times now... Can't really put into words how good it is.
I agree, it has really grown on me a lot in the last few months
This album is a MASTERPIECE! ✌️
One of the greatest songs ever written 🤘🏻🌀
When Danny does the gong hit @13:57 live... its one of the most incredible sounds I've ever heard.
seriously though. just saw them in OKC a few weeks ago and hearing that gong blew my socks off
This song is so special. Was the first and only time i've cried listening to a Metal song. The most beautiful journey Tool offered.
Wings for Marie pt 2 tears me up still and always gives me goosebumps. Maynard said he’ll never perform it live again because it hurts too much.
It isn't metal. It's just Tool.
This is my favorite Tool song.
mines always been Eulogy. till this, it is imo the greatest song they have ever done.
This song hits so damn hard!
The most satisfying gong hit in musical history.
Hi. Allow me to copy and paste a comment i did on another channel about this song, because it holds a particularly important message to us all, specifically in the times we're living now : "This song is the perfect epitaph for mankind. One of the most heart wrenching piece ever wrote about the dusk of humanity and the total collapse and disappearance of our civilization."
Absolutely!
This madness….
It’s happend six times before and will happen again. Maybe Mother Nature wipes the slate clean or we do it ourselves. Regardless it is inevitable
You don't need to explain that you're copying and pasting your comment, wtf is even the point? Just say what tf you have to say you dolt
The only way out is through.
Every time Maynard hits 'RISE' i lose my shit. This song is the bookend from Aenima... young angry Maynard calling forcthe ocean to rise, the land to crack, and the fools and idiots to be washed away. Now 60 years old, hes got children, perspective, and experience. He reaches out to give humanity a final warning, and - maybe - one more chance.
This song gives me goosebumps everytime I listen. It is truly something special
This song is proof you don't need drugs to get high. Spiral out!
Christ tool fans are insufferable
I saw them two weeks ago in Austin. 17th row floor, front and center. Holy Moly! It was a spiritual experience and the collective vibe was unreal.
@@RallyBudI was at the Phoenix show this past Friday, 3rd time seeing tool and it just amazing how the music just takes you for a whole ride.
Yeah, it's true psychedelia
Please do rosetta stoned!
For sure. It's more challenging, or less immediately accessible, but that makes the payoff soooooo worth it! Such a grower.
Please don't do Rosetta without Lipan and Lost Keys!
Rosetta Stoned is a hit or miss kind of song. Now live, the shit is legit.
Music to make you feel emotions... truly unique Tool is!
Experiencing this live is beyond my vocabulary.
Just saw them twice this weekend. 7-8th time seeing them. Maynard remixed the lyrics and added more on the build up. It blew my brain to pieces
For sure it is. My dream to see them live!!!
I'm glad they're playing it live. It's one of my favorite songs.
WAKE UP!!!! That's the basic of this, although he uses intelligence and Elegance to convey the message!
Sound the dread alarm
Through our primal body
Sound the reveille
To be or not to be
Rise
Stay the grand finale
Stay the reading of our swan song and epilogue
One drive to stay alive
It's elementary
Muster every fibre
Mobilize
Stay alive!!!
She is spot on. Its a call to arms that we are all apathetic / self involved even in the face of impending doom. This is the musical equivalent to the netflix movie 'Don't Look Up'
Just rewatched that the other week. Funny “cause it’s true.
That's a fun way to look at it! I like that
I could watch her listen to music forever (especially Tool). It brings me peace.
I was in awe the first time I listened to this track and still in awe every time i hear it again. It's in my top five favorite tool songs. Its phenomenal. It feels like they're telling a tale without a single lyric in the second half.
Invincible is an incredible song
Assuming you'll work through the rest of the Fear album, cant wait for Invincible. Also think its cool when you guys do a little reading on the song meanings as you dig into the back catalog, a good one for example would be "The Patient", also another fav.
One of my fav from this album. Just when you think it can’t get any better, it does over and over again. Especially Adam’s playing. It’s spectacular
Saw them in concert this last tour. Was blown away by the fact that the "cha-cha-cha" at 3:15 (of this video) is from that big board of synthesizer panels behind Danny that he plays with his hands. No chimes or sounds come around the 4:20 mark (of this video) which allows him to get back to his seat. Then you start hearing cymbals, and the drums.
Yes! It sounds so good live. We saw them 3 times last year and are seeing them Monday. I can't wait.
@@RosettaStoned462 I got seats in the upper deck on side stage specifically to look down on Danny.
I saw them live for the first time a couple months ago but I got the worst seats and the audio was terrible. I was sad because my audio system at home sounds better, and I could barely see them from the back, so I can see them better on TV as well! So I need to go again with close seats…
$300 for two tickets of terrible audio and view
if you notice the main beat and riff is kind of like a blaring alarm. waking us all up. while the beginning riff makes us floaty and sleepy. its kinda "hey! youve been asleep for while. wake up!" thing
Of all Tool masterpieces, this has come to be my absolute favorite, just slightly superseding their other great works. It’s just so freakin perfect.
People often say that TOOL is on another level. I swear we’re going to find out one day that they are in fact from another dimension, because it is other worldly how good they are. Absolutely phenomenal.
This album has ruined some of my favorite music. Truly some of the most deeply rhythmic entertainment that is both complex and simple enough for me to learn and hum along to the various layers. Sometimes finding where the different time signatures intersect is euphoric.
You should listen to disposition, reflection, triad after this one!
I second this. Those 3 are my absolute fav tool tracks, especially Reflection
I’ve heard this song well over 100 times, and it never gets old.
I think her favorite would be the Holy Trinity....Disposition + Reflection + Triad...an actual Life experience if listened with hearth, mind and closed eyes as she does
That solo tho. 😢 Achingly Beautiful! 🖤🤘🏾🖖🏿
I've been waiting on this one. Best song in every possible way for me. Amongst all their songs lol
This song makes me want to make passionate articulations with uncommonly large, yet compelling and impressive vocabulary words to describe my feelings about it.
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂 fucking true
Invincible and Culling Voices!!!
Rouse all from our apathy
Just wow - this track is so epic.🤯
Falling is not flying. Peace
Falling isn’t flying floating isn’t infinite love that whole part!
Tool is the Greatest Musical Act since Led Zeppelin. Their creativity is Unparalleled!
The last song I DEEPLY enjoyed that is this long, this rich in texture, dynamics, and variation was “Echoes” by Pink Floyd, which I first heard in 1999.
Just got my tickets for Tool concert in June. Happy Times!
Yay! Have fun!!!!
This is my favourite tool journey. Barely beating out the grudge when it released but has since become so much more to me than when it released
Thematically reminds me of "The Movies's Over" by amazing Aussie 3 piece band Cog
I find Tool is constantly reminding us to be present, like a wise monk training his student.
The part at 13:37 always has an effect on me, even 4 years later. What a masterpiece.
Sometime around 1993 I read an interview that I’ll always remember about these guys. Maynard treats his voice like “just another instrument,” and Adam strives to make his guitar lines “sound like Maynard’s vocals.” There’s a surprising amount of restraint and humility in how they write, mix and produce. Maynard often stand off to the side when live. Not the “frontman.”
Val, you definitely have the TOOL vibe. Just close your eyes and let the experience take you away !!!
AWESOME !!!
Great song
I really like those quick fills Danny does at 14:23 shit is so smooth.
One of the things that stands out for me on this track is how Tool's typical build up toward an intense completion instead ends up much more 'quiet storm'. Goes really well with the introspection in the lyrics.
I really like that distortion Adam’s using. It’s a much softer clipping than he used on previous records. I’m curious whether it’s a TC Dark Matter or Rottweiler.
Fear Inoculum is an incredible album...! It's amazing how the lyrics to this album released in 2019 all fit what has happened in the world starting in 2020...
I really enjoyed your reaction video on this one! Top 5 Tool songs!
I love listening along with both of you and I’m digging the reactions.
I’ve seen Pushit listed a couple times. The live version is amazing and y’all need to hear Maynard scream for over 30 seconds. 😊
fav song on the album. after listening to it a billion times
My second favorite after both Pushits
You have reached the summit. Now you can Descend. The best.
WOW!!
For the algo. Love it. Happy weekend everyone ❤
Finally. Yes!
Great song to listen to on a long run out in the bush (wilderness)
One of my favorite songs from that band.
Although I believe Lateralus is their strongest work TOOL's 2019 offer is the album from them I listen the most to -- almost every day for the past 4 years!
Had the chance to see them in Montréal last November -- not sure if they'll be touring again for their next opus (if there's another album of course!!)
God those drums
The effect on his voice is actually several, but the three that most stand out to me are, compression, an ‘unnatural’ EQ curve, and a Leslie rotary speaker (or, more likely, a rotary-speaker simulator). Oh-and just a bit of amplifier grit. I’m not breaking out the big studio headphones just for this, but there is some sort of clipping on his voice. I can’t tell based on my iPad speakers precisely what kind of grit (tube drive, transistors, diode clipping, bitcrushing, etc., but I’m guessing it’s not the last because it sounds familiar and I don’t listen to anything made by bands that formed after 1995 (with a couple exceptions, like QOTSA, and side-projects by musicians I knew long before 1995 (like Velvet Revolver or Nick Cave’s Grinderman)). So-I’ve probably heard a bit rusher in a mix by someone like Front Line Assembly, but I’ve never heard it out front, except during the 5 or 10 times I’ve fooled around with the Bitcrusher plugin came with Logic X.
It isn't so much that Tool is a band that's reached a place few others will, it's more that they're a band giving you the tools to reach the place they're currently at.
Watched several episodes recently and loving your chemistry, as well as your personal breakdowns, but your jump cuts during your breakdowns make them really jarring to watch, easy to listen to for fluidity of thought, but hard to watch.
Keep up the great work, smooth out your cuts, and your sure to grow.
I appreciate that! And yeah, it's a balance between the two that I think I'm still trying to find, thanks for the input! :)
Can’t wait you to react to the “Holy Trinity” of Tool!
Topic wise Disillusioned would be a good segue. Wonder what she’d think if APC!! Amazing songwriting and melodies from that band!
Descending is a masterpiece. My only regret about this song, and indeed the whole Fear Inoculum album, is that I can never hear it for the first time ever again. Don't get me wrong, I hear something different each time I play it, but nothing will ever surpass the experience of hearing it all for that very first time.
This song is a warning..falling isnt flying, floating isnt infinite..
Don't do drugs. This song and every Tool song is great on mush. I think she is ready for a song about D.M.T next.
Y'all shoud read the lyrics out loud so we can see where you are and your thoughts! I personally would love to see y'all dive a tad deeper in the lyrical side of things.
We will definitely be doing something like this, at least in some shape or form
Just to clarify, I meant y’all reading them out loud and such after the song is over of course. lol
My fave Tool song!
Love this song. Could be my fav
If you look closely at the album cover there is a hidden message... Think mirror image. Symbolism pierces the veil.
Syringe?
Pinnacle of music right there.
My favorite Tool song along with Lateralus!!!
This is the grown up version of Aenima.
The water reminds me of the Undertow days. It was like MJK had a hostile relationship with it back then and now there’s acceptance? Dealing with it.
Sound the dread alarm
this is one of the most beautiful songs in the world.
lest we cease to be
🌀🌀🌀🙏🙏🙏🧘🧘🧘
Stir us from our wanton slumber is the theme for the last 4 years
Or 40...or 400!
He wrote this before 2019
Maynard is laughing at that dumb ass take
@@alpo6668 obviously 🙄
This album gets its fair share of criticism. I think it fits perfectly fine in the TOOL catalogue and this is the best song on that album!
I honestly love this album, a lot of the songs have grown on me a ton
God-tier composition
...I think she ain't that into you, bro lol
agony of humanity...
I can’t imagine listening to Descending before listening to Undertow.
Sacrilege
Eh, its a way to better understand the band as they are today, not 30 years ago. Starting from today and going backwards is a fun and insightful way to learn a bands catalogue
@@johnseward2934 As a varied opinion, if I heard their new music FIRST, I would not have been a fan, and would probably never make it to be interested in their old music.
It’s only the old music that allows me to tolerate an album like Lateralus.
@@RoadRage55 "tolerate an album like Lateralus" of all the hot takes possible!
@@johnseward2934 yeah, I don’t know what to say. As an OGT from 92, my nipple rings get snagged on my dope Beastie T whenever Lateralus is mentioned.
I originally listened to everything in chronological order on my channel a few years ago. I personally prefer the somewhat newer stuff, but it was an interesting experience that had value to it. We are taking a very Christopher Nolan approach now and jumping all over the place and it's fun haha
I believe this song is about humanity ignoring the effects of obvious global warming and increasing climate catastrophy.
Hence "mitigate our ruin". It's going to be bad, but so much worse if we don't do anything.
Global warming is a myth
Don’t pause so much if the commentary is gonna be “oh, they played music while Maynard was singing” tell us how you really feel
The lyrics are amazing, but the song itself is overrated to me. I saw them live in 2016, and they played a snippet of this song. It was quite different and much better than what they actually recorded in my opinion. It's still a good song, but I am always left wanting more.
Are u guys together?
