I bought this cast album back in the 1990's after seeing a local production of "Oliver!" I couldn't stop playing it for months on end! I wish I could have seen this London production in person. This Nancy has to be my favorite!
I've only ever seen this production on this clip but, for me, Sally Dexter is the definitive Nancy. I cannot imagine anyone ever surpassing her in this role after this.
Adele Weiss I totally agree. Her fiestiness and inner courage, combined with the feeling of generosity of spirit and vulnerability are everything that Nancy should be. The lady nailed it!

i'm so sad there's hardly any footage of sally dexter as nancy out there, she IS Nancy and will always be for me. this cast of oliver will always be my favourite, although i was 17 years away from being born when this was first put on. the little actress playing bet was also a brilliant casting!
I want to see more footage of Jonathan Pryce in this production. I wish there are more bootlegs of this production. The only one right now is a video with Jim Dale as Fagin.
So glad to hear there's a video with Jim Dale. I wanted to travel to see his Fagin in the '90's (I'm in America) but wasn't able. Saw him in 'Candide' in New York twice.
I highly doubt it, this vid was from the Royal Variety Show so they only did these songs. They did other TV appearances around the same time, Food Glorious and Where Is Love from this cast are on YT somewhere. But I don't think there was ever a pro-shoot.
Such a pity. I'd have been willing to watch even a bad bootleg shot from the back row. Ah well. I'll just keep playing the cast album and imaging the scenes in my head.
@@williamedison9689 it’s available to watch in full at the Victoria and Albert museum theatre archives. I’ve viewed it there. Just book an appointment and they set you up to watch the pro shot archive recording! :)
If there is a hardcore fan of Mika passing by, can you tell me if he is in this video/if he is in another of these videos please ❤🙏🙏 Or if you know anything about him and Oliver! please tell me.
there's a cast album which was recorded. this video is from the Royal Variety Show, so they only performed those three songs. There were a couple of other TV show appearances (Food Glorious Food and Where Is Love) floating around out there, but there aren't any full length live recordings of the 1994 cast.

I saw this production in 1994. Amazing Sally Dexter. She just nails it, absolutely. Never imagined she would end up being Faith Dingle in Emmerdale!

Georgia Brown, was fabulous as Nancy!!!!

@@carmenm9068 She sure did. She epitomises the role.
The young actress playing Bet is utterly fantastic.
finally an oliver that can actually act
Love Jonathan Pryce as an actor and he is an amazing Fagin
One of the best Nancys. Certainly one of my favorites.
Georgia Brown was the original Nancy. (London 1960)
However, she was in the 1964 London production, once the orginal cast had left
This was always so much better than the 2009 production, if you ask me. I've seen both.
This was the first thing I ever saw on stage, so I'm biased toward it!
I completely agree the 2009 version was like a bloody pantomime!

I think it's cool that bets played by a little girl
In the original London production Bet was also played by younger girl
Sally Dexter will
Always be my Nancy xxx adore her!!
Jonathan Pryce! Marvelous!

I saw Pryce in it, he was a fantastic Fagin. I also managed to get given a tour of the stage and tech box afterwards, a fantastic time!
james bourne of Busted and Tom Fletcher of McFly were starring boys in the gang
Oh yeah? I knew Tom Fletcher went on to play Oliver, but I didn't know he was in this.
Which of the boys were James and Tom?

Only James Bourne is listed above not Tom.
@@jackolas2007 James is at 2:16
Ahhh... Chas from Emmerdales mum. Omg... she's amazing 😊
1968 was my favourite but this one looks cool XD also as long as he needs me is the best in 1994
Does anyone know if video exists anywhere of an entire performance of the 1994 Palladium revival? I would pay real money to see that.

Fagin?
Fagin?

Why did they make Bet so young? First thought she was part of Faign's gang?!
