The Broadway show made the mistake of being produced "in the time of Hamilton". Amelie was a truly great show, but in 2016 no-one cared about any Broadway show that wasn't Hamilton - even having Phillippa Soo wasn't enough to save it. It deserves a wider audience.
it wasn't the fact of being produced during hamilton it was just the broadway version was terrible compared to the west end like listening to the broadway cast recording just them having american accents while its meant to be french is really jarring and not good and the orchestrations and nothing compared to this version
It totally captures the essence of Amélie unlike the Broadway recording, one of the finest things I have ever seen in Edinburgh. I can’t wait to see it again London. Please do a cast recordings 🙏🏻
2:10 literal chills ran down my arms. something the original broadway version didn't have was that magical almost rustic feel that paints a wonderful picture and touches your heart, I'm so glad that this new version captured that feeling!!!
I agree 100%! This feels more in line with the mood and atmosphere of the original Jean-Pierre Jeunet movie, and these new orchestrations also help the music capture and expand the same soundscape of Yann Tiersen's film score. With the other version, I can't help but feel bored with the light pop, arguable "Americanized", and near "Disney" sentimental feel of the orchestral score(Especially with "Times are Hard for Dreamers", "World's Best Dad". "Backyard", and "Thin Air(which I already thought was trying to sound like Jason Robert Brown lite. Doesn't help that Adam Chanler Berat's portrayal of Nino makes him out to be another Jamie from "The Last Five Years" in my eyes)", among the Broadway score in general), which is only buoyed by the typically "beautiful(and I don't mean that lightly)" vocals of the main lead that don't give way to any practice of acting chops to demonstrate the character as a person, not just a vessel for any beautiful voice to flex their vocal muscles, which makes me feel like there was also a bit of a miscasting of the main lead. whimsical (I won't hide that I myself am in that range and would love to play this version of Nino if I decide to become an actor someday, along with a composer/lyricist/playwright/orchestrator for the musical theatre) But yes also, the orchestrations here are MARVELOUS and better define the significance for the setting of the story, and I PRAY that this arrangement AND the new script become available for the licensing of this show(even if just for a "two act" section of this show)! And I wonder what Jean-Pierre Jeunet will think of this version as well! :) Sorry I went on for so long, but I have yet to have seen SOMEONE who is also critical of the original version as I am, without being bombarded with hate for stating a damn opinion(I know, it's the internet, sigh), and again, I agree with you 100% :)
I have to echo everyone else’s comments, I love the new instrumentations and how they incorporate the whole ensemble in every song. We need a cast recording. I just hope this virus hasn’t robbed us of the possibility!
I NEED a DVD of this production. There is no comparison, the broadway version does not capture Amelies essense like this one. As a brazilian, I had not the oportunity to watch this live, so I just keep trying to imagine the stage and the production while hearing the musics and finding a handfull of animatics. It os sad that the productions are not filmed profecionaly like the 25th aniversary of the phantom of the opera and Hamilton. I would pay a lot of money to have my favorite musicals in DVD at home

@@lowri.williams I'm sad that the Broadway one doesn't have this same orchestration and from what I've seen of this production, you're right, it's totally different! And thank you! I hope so too
True-dat! While I honestly wasn't really impressed with the Broadway version of the song(nothing against Adam Chanler-Berat, but I found his identical belting of the melody a tad bit repetitive, and the overral characterization of Nino a bit too "perfect"(beautiful on it's own, yes, but not too accurate of a display of his supposed childlike oddities that both compares and contrasts to Amelie's(in fact, it almost felt like another variation of Jamie from The Last Five Years, and it doesn't help that the overall Broadway arrangement already sounds like it's trying to be diet Jason Robert Brown in my eyes)), this more expansive, and more rhythmic orchestration, combined with lowering the key from B Major to G Major and speeding up the tempo to a 1.25 speed(the previous tempo, honestly, felt a bit slow, dull, and rather unengaging to me), really helps better drive the energy of this Cat and Mouse chase Amelie is putting Nino in and better sells the emotional pull Nino is beginning to feel of Amelie from the riddles she sends him. Better yet, from what I can gather from the cast recording and bootleg audios of this production lying around, Chris Jared's(as well as Danny Mac's) portrayal of Nino is more subdued yet wondrous in a burrowing manner(which is more in line with what he's like in the movie), as he starts to see someone he might possibly relate to or at least who understands the kind of person he is("But, you know, I think she understands me." from A Better Haircut better works in this context in my eyes) better than most people could when he was a child(i.e. being bullied alot at school). In ways, the two of them are almost like soulmates who've known each other for so long before they even met(ALMOST like two Orpheuses, ala Hadestown. xD), and are anxious to finally meet and say what they want to say as children but couldn't or weren't allowed to(Nino picking up on Amelie's reprise of Halfway(a song that showcases the paradoxical alienation Amelie’s mother has instilled in her at a young age) in this cast recording is also indicative of this). No matter where he's at or works at(be it dressed as a skeleton on the ghost train, or working as an unfazed employee at a sex shop), Nino feels as childlike yet alone just like Amelie does in his own way, and this curious pattern of games and stories he's being sucked into has started to reinvigorate his own sense of joy nearly lost as a child(just as Amelie is rediscovering her own joy in living from the good deeds she does for everyone(and for that, I find moving "Times Are Hard for Dreamers" to after getting her father out of the house a smart move on the creators, as a form of character development(more on this and other changes made to the book here in this booklet of the cast recording: concordtheatricals.app.box.com/s/14xyd1p5zx1b9d18tbvi3dhmwbfjugj8 ). Also, I personally find replacing the line "for a stranger to see" with "where you want to be" a bit more in line with hinting at Nino's simplicity and honesty about his affections. The previous line almost gives an unnerving pause as to whether he might be a bit dangerous to Amelie's safety(like "uh oh, this innocent sweet thing just left a one way ticket for "anyone" to give her the time"(I know that sounds a tad extreme, but still), while the other plainly shows that he just wants to finally meet her at wherever she's leading him to(which is just in line with what the overall song expresses of his feelings here). Sorry about that mouthful, but I've been meaning to share this with somebody who might not be as “opinionated” to perceive such an analysis as an affront to everything they love of Adam, Phillipa and Samantha(the latter two whom I also felt didn’t really capture the balance of childlike wonder and repressed loneliness that made Amelie more of a full fleshed person. Audrey Brisson on the other hand is PERFECT in capturing that without doing a carbon copy portrayal of Audrey Tautou’s performance from the film, in my opinion. And the book here seems to better establish Amelie's humane oddities(i.e. already being lax(As well as unimpressed: ua-cam.com/video/9JbwxabeeLE/v-deo.html ) with sex and other adult stuff, so that Amelie herself doesn't come off as another typical innocent Disney Princess like character waiting to give herself to her conventional Prince Charming) in the movie better here as well. In fact, I was kinda disappointed with the Broadway production as a whole(in fact I feel I kinda understand why the film's director also was displeased with the Broadway show(claiming he only gave the rights so the money from the show would go to helping this charity, for providing surgeries to children with heart conditions, he's trying to keep alive), but this London production really nails the atmosphere and appeal of the movie better(and I wonder how he feels of this production too, even if the show ever goes to France someday!). I hope this version tours the U.S. someday(especially with Audrey Brisson!), or that the book and orchestrations become available for licensing on Concord international! Plus, fun side note, if you play it(or, better yet, the actual song on the soundtrack: ua-cam.com/video/X0A_UvW_wzs/v-deo.html ) at 1.25 speed, it starts to sound like it's carrying the same tempo and intensity as "Pierre" from Natasha, Pierre, and The Great Comet of 1812(which I also consider another WHOLEY UNDERRATED bop myself(as well as one of my favorites in the entire show). xD ua-cam.com/video/CXab7046_a4/v-deo.html
Also, on a personal note, If someone ever finds the Piano conductor or Orchestral score of this arrangement, I'd be so happy to play the piano parts of this arrangement of "Thin Air", as well as "Flight of the Blue-fly"! :D
Ofc the chemistry between Audrey and Chris as Amelie and Nino is great but that tiny shared look at 7:07 between Audrey and Johnson Willis (Dufayel) is absolutely perfect and captures the friendship between their characters so well without a single word!!

This is one of my absolute favourite musicals, I’m so glad I get to hear the UK cast versions of most of the songs again, I thought I was going to have to survive on the US versions which aren’t as good. I really hope they do a cast recording, the voices are so good and the songs are beautiful.
Just booked tickets for the West End transfer after seeing this in 2019 and being blown away... I still can't believe how they managed to find this many insanely talented people who can sing, act and play multiple instruments

Here’s to hope she gets more calls for roles on the West End and beyond after this pandemic is under control. :) (I would die Happily if I get to see this whole production and Audrey, if they ever tour here in the United States some day! I for one prefer this version of the show as the definitive version of the show, so much more than the Broadway version, and hope that everything about this production(script, set design details, orchestrations(ESPECIALLY the Orchestrations), etc.) gets licensed on Concord International as well(even with the Broadway version)!)
@@SteveBrant55 it is now pre ordered. I hope this soundtrack gets the right kind of promotion and they all do well from it. It beats the spots off the Broadway version. 👍
The American cast was fine (I saw the show during its brief Broadway run and Philippa Soo in particular was utterly charming), but the general atmosphere just wasn't quite there. It was a very conventional approach to a very unconventional film. The new arrangements and songs work much better and are closer to the spirit of the film.
Don't need to say anything, just go to watch the show, you will be amazed how talented those actors are. I watched it couple of weeks ago, now cant wait to go back and watch it again.
I love this so much. The music of Amelie is just so beautiful. I have watched this video more times than I care to admit. And for some reason when the booth goes bright reminded heavily of trains
Have the American cast recording but never really got it until I heard the UK version. It’s totally brilliant and perfectly sung. Can’t get enough of it.
to this day, this is on of my favorite musical theatre performances ever. such a beautiful blend of the best songs in the show, and so eccentric. i love it so much.
I can't express how much I love this cast, production, and soundtrack. It captured and kept the essence of the movie amelie into a musical adaptation. I truly believe this is deeply underrated and needed to be appreciated and awed at more:)
I was excited when seeing a musical of my favourite film. A film that when introducing to my girlfriend - she told me she was pregnant half way through. But after watching some trailers of the American version i was put off a little. I didn’t get round to getting tickets. Then my wife got me tickets for my birthday. I ended up watching one of the last performances ever in the final week. I was amazed and cried throughout due to its resonance with me. I’ve watched this video weekly since. I was/am gutted I couldn’t watch it again. A full recording would be incredible and can’t wait - hopefully June release!
I think I have to comment, having watched this approximately 50 times (no exaggeration, I went through a phase of watching this everyday). This is everything! The pure joy and talent and good stuff coming from this video just gives me those good vibes you know? Good vibes only with this video.

I saw this at the Criterion twice in two days it was that amazing! I’ve genuinely never been so captivated by a show as I have with Amelie. We went to see this and absolutely loved it! So we went to see it a second time. Wish it wasn't ending at the end of the month! so original and beautifully performed. How do you carry a cello around the stage while performing. Magnificent! Agree with Zoek - would love a recording of this version! Agree with Paul. One of the best!
i tried to get into the US version, i wanted to love it, but i couldn't. but this? i've listened to the london cast recording on repeat for the past three days
Beautiful orchestrations and singers. Definitely more Amelie and although I think I will still like the Broadway version more, I really would like to hear this and compare and contrast them because this is really beautiful, especially When the Booth Goes Bright. I like this version better.
It's called "Everything is Connected" it was originally in the show during the pre-broadway run and then it was cut when they reworked the show and then put back in for the West End production. (thank god it's one of the best songs along with the other song they cut)

Plus, fun side note, if you play it(or, better yet, the actual song on the soundtrack: ua-cam.com/video/X0A_UvW_wzs/v-deo.html ) at 1.25 speed, it starts to sound like it's carrying the same tempo and intensity as "Pierre" from Natasha, Pierre, and The Great Comet of 1812(which I also consider another WHOLEY UNDERRATED bop myself(as well as one of my favorites in the entire show). xD
ua-cam.com/video/CXab7046_a4/v-deo.html
Also, on a personal note, If someone ever finds the Piano conductor or Orchestral score of this arrangement, I'd be so happy to play the piano parts of this arrangement of "Thin Air", as well as "Flight of the Blue-fly"! :D
Ofc the chemistry between Audrey and Chris as Amelie and Nino is great but that tiny shared look at 7:07 between Audrey and Johnson Willis (Dufayel) is absolutely perfect and captures the friendship between their characters so well without a single word!!
Happily ever after ;)
The whole body chills I feel listening to this cast? UNSHAKEABLE
i LITERALLY cannot stop watching this the new orchestrations are just so BEAUTIFUL god i wish there was a cast album :-(( or that it’d visit the philippines
this is ASTOUNDING. amelie is one of my favourite shows of all time as well as one of my favourite films ever, and WOW it's amazing that this production manages to give off that parisian vibe as well as maintain the heart of the story.
i really hope this production comes to broadway - it's so stunning. also - when the booth goes bright truly SHOOK ME. what an incredible arrangement!
Actually crying, so desperate for a cast recording, this show is so ridiculously good!

7:33 HEAVEN
Nathan Tysen announced on his Instagram earlier this week that they have recorded a cast album! No word yet on when it will be available, but I can't wait to hear it :)
I saw the show at the Other Palace recently and it absolutely blew my mind. A UK cast recording would be superb. Go and see the show if you're considering it!
I NEED this version of When the booth goes bright.
Steven Brant THANK YOU FOR THIS! So far the only song available is “Stay”. Can’t wait for June 5th!
@@rodthedutch You're welcome! :-))
i know asking for a full cast album is unlikely but i would give anything just for a full version of when the booth goes bright 🥺🙏
YES OMYGOD ITS SO GOOD
SAMESAMESAMESAMESAME
I KEEP LISTENING TO THE MUSIC FOR WHEN THE BOOTH GOES BRIGHT KICK IN AND I GET SO H Y P E D AND ALSO /EMOTIONAL/
Harmon Turner THE HARMONIES THO OMFG
Cast album confirmed! They recorded it last week!! To be released in April! 🎉
Or thin air
This is one of my absolute favourite musicals, I’m so glad I get to hear the UK cast versions of most of the songs again, I thought I was going to have to survive on the US versions which aren’t as good. I really hope they do a cast recording, the voices are so good and the songs are beautiful.
The bway music was beautiful, but this sounds SO MUCH BETTER ! A cast recording would be beautiful !!
Just booked tickets for the West End transfer after seeing this in 2019 and being blown away... I still can't believe how they managed to find this many insanely talented people who can sing, act and play multiple instruments
this show deserved so much better than just a month im so glad it’s going on tour!! bit of a longshot but i wish it visits asia any time soon :-)
this cast sounds so good!! AAAAAAA
rainingsunshine it is going on an international tour !
Omg i wish it will go to the Philippines 😭😭😭😭
ITS REOPENING
I adore this production, and would love love love love a uk cast recording. It's so beautiful, and different from the US. Can't wait to see it again
AUDREY BRISSON IS A STAR
AGREE 10,000,000%!!!
Here’s to hope she gets more calls for roles on the West End and beyond after this pandemic is under control. :)
(I would die Happily if I get to see this whole production and Audrey, if they ever tour here in the United States some day! I for one prefer this version of the show as the definitive version of the show, so much more than the Broadway version, and hope that everything about this production(script, set design details, orchestrations(ESPECIALLY the Orchestrations), etc.) gets licensed on Concord International as well(even with the Broadway version)!)
We need a cast recording from this production! SO much better than the American cast! Wonderful production 😍😍
Cast album confirmed! They recorded it last week! To be released sometime in April! 🎉
That's one of the best things I've read for a while. Fingers crossed keep us in touch with everything that's going on right now 👍
@@SteveBrant55 it is now pre ordered. I hope this soundtrack gets the right kind of promotion and they all do well from it. It beats the spots off the Broadway version. 👍
The American cast was lovely. The broadway production just went for a more pop sound.
Travelled around the UK to see this show three times, never seen or heard anything like it before. Just BEAUTIFUL! ♥️
Now we're getting a cast recording, love this show so much ❤️❤️
I was excited when seeing a musical of my favourite film.
Just saw this in the West End. It was bloody brilliant! Haven’t seen any musical like it.
I think I have to comment, having watched this approximately 50 times (no exaggeration, I went through a phase of watching this everyday). This is everything! The pure joy and talent and good stuff coming from this video just gives me those good vibes you know? Good vibes only with this video.
The tour is almost finished! I saw it in Southampton. It was brilliant.
gosh i’m so happy that they brought back the opening song in the tour
This is so much better than the original Broadway version. Thank god they kept developing this show.
BEST musical I have ever seen.....I was in awe the whole way through...I can only hope and pray this comes back to the stage one day with this cast.....it was a special moment in time
I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT
the warmest, most magical performance i've ever seen.. 🥺
The best musical I have ever seen, and I've seen more than my fair share working in theatres.
Just comIng back from The Criterion theatre in London….. so happy. …what a beautiful uplifting musical . Don’t miss it !
I don't know how to describe how happy this makes me. Bravo, you wonderful musicians!
tonight was AMAZING! thank you so much for the emotions!
I feel so emotional watching this reminds me of when I went to see the show. I wish there was a DVD of the show
can they hurry up with a cast recording, the musics so beautiful
Wish I could like more than once. Fabulous show. Hoping to catch it again in London.
I've also wanted this for a very long time and it exists!!! It's also on spotify
I’m begging for a cast recording
I saw this at the Criterion twice in two days it was that amazing! I’ve genuinely never been so captivated by a show as I have with Amelie. The casting is absolutely perfect and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it! If only there was an official stage recording I’d watch it over and over again
I would do anything for a cast recoding!! It’s all me and my sister talk about after going to see the production 4 times when it was in our city ❤️😂😂
1. The flight of the blue fly
2. Times are hard for dreamers
3. Thin Air
4. Girl with the glass
5. When the booth goes bright
6. Tour de France
7. Stay
8. Where do we go from here
Nino is adorable
This whole thing is just delightful. What a wonderful company! Love to Johnson especially ;)
Cast album confirmed! They recorded it last week! To be released sometime in April! 🎉
i tried to get into the US version, i wanted to love it, but i couldn't. but this? i've listened to the london cast recording on repeat for the past three days
i adore this video, they look like they're having so much fun and it really shows in the music :')
I would happily pay for a cast recording, the american one doesnt compare
Beautiful! I wish I could see this production in person!
All I want is a uk cast soundtrack
ua-cam.com/video/IPu3QYS_ovg/v-deo.html
I am just in Love with Aubrey Brisson Juthas. I would love to be able to see this show live some day. Great Job to everyone.
Wow! Really enjoyed this a lot more than the American version.
The guy with the accordion looks like Vincent Van Gogh
Stunning!
The full UK cast recording is now available! (as of June 5th 2020)
Grammy nomination for the Amelie cast recording!
8:14 dont mind me just saving for myself
Beautiful orchestrations and singers. Definitely more Amelie and although I think I will still like the Broadway version more, I really would like to hear this and compare and contrast them because this is really beautiful, especially When the Booth Goes Bright. I like this version better.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!
absolutely brilliant
CAST RECORDING OUT JUNE 5th!!!!!
I watch this every time I’m missing Amelie (which is like every other day)
So sad that i won't be able to see this live 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I love this performance..West end version is the best.
Seeing it for the second time on Saturday!! There’s a lottery for Amelie if you really wanna see it🤞🏼🤞🏼😘👀
What where please??
if you, like me, are here for When the Booth Goes Bright, it's 7:32
the three dislikes didn't get a helping hand from Amelie XD
I love Phillipa Soo but this cast is so incredible
WOW.
7:31
I get *Once* vibes...would love to see it!
what can I do to help them make a recording? I’m desperate!!
Can anyone tell me what the opening song is called??
It's called "Everything is Connected" it was originally in the show during the pre-broadway run and then it was cut when they reworked the show and then put back in for the West End production. (thank god it's one of the best songs along with the other song they cut)
The UK Tour calls it 'The Flight of the Blue Fly'
@@EllieTalksTheatre Oh dang, is there an updated song list or any info like that about the UK production online? Idk what they call any of the songs in the UK version if they're not like the Broadway version.
@@reed1159 it was in my programme
@@EllieTalksTheatre Yeah I mean I figured since they usually put that information in programs. I just wouldn't know because I don't have a program and I'm not in the UK.
10:41 stay!
please someone tell me that after covid its coming back :((
yes!!!
