Especially if the vehicle sleeps outside. This way you only really need to do a regular wash to keep it looking new.

    You definitely want to clay if you live near train tracks. When I was a teenager, my beater Saturn started developing rust spots on my painted plastic bumper. The contaminants the train kicked up fell on the rear bumper which had a 'shelf' and started corroding.

  • @skyb0yTube
    @skyb0yTube Рік тому

    Quick question to Larry: if you stack all these protections one on top of the other, why should you use a ceramic coating if its properties are being covered by the other products? You would have to wait until the above products fail until you will see the characteristics of the coating. It's like having a dream car but you drive another car because you don't want to put mileage on it.
    If the answer is for longevity, then isn't this answer kinda wrong? You can't say that a product has a longevity of 2 years if the product didn't had the chance to be put to work. It's like saying: "these batteries lasted for 2 years because I have used another set."

  • @joapps8135

    hi. did u happen to do a vid on storing a car? cant seem to find if u did. of course, the best is to drive the car every few days or weeks if storing for long periods, but im looking for the best second option if no one is there to drive the car periodically....
    tires: motorweek suggests jacking the car up at correct points closest to the wheels to also keep the springs loaded which they said is very important. some suggest using those tire savers/ramps with a partial curvature for the tire to sit in...i hv doubts about those products even if the tires fit the curvature exactly (which many cases it may not fit exactly)...i can foresee flat spots forming. even if air in tires is inflated to the recommended max. your thoughts? tires r my main concern. i plan to keep some car sitting for about roughly 6 months at a time.
    fuel: motorweek said to cap off the tank and add fuel stabilizer if storage is less than 1yr. if more than 1yr however, they said empty the tank completely. is this ok for newer cars? im sure this would depend on the type of car but how would i go about removing all the fuel? let the car run until fuel is all gone? ...and then after a yr when im back from a long trip, i can simply add some gas in and it will start for most modern cars?
    other fluids: mw also recommended changing engine oil (oil picks up acids as it is used) and the coolant. and also brake fluid as is attracts and absorbs moisture & then damages brake parts. ok. fine. this is doable
    car battery: using a pulsing trickle charger better than a continuous trickle charge. fine but what r your thoughts?
    bugs n rodents: cover exhaust pipes (but safety concern as many forget about it and the CO fills up the car cabin!!). i would tape the exhaust cover to the car cover or something like that to help make sure i remove it. another suggestion is placing moth ball things (important to place on a tray or something so not directly in contact with carpet, etc they said) in the interior but i dont think i would need this....plus car would smell like that moth stuff. this is no biggie either.
    car wash n cover: of course wash car appropriately (interior too) n cover w the correct car cover eg indoor cover, outdoor, etc.
    main concern is tires as it would be a pain to jack each car up every time... even if i had electrically powered jacks stands (not like your lift. like 4 individual jacks that i would hv to manually align each separately). your thoughts will be appreciated as i know u carefully think this stuff out. thnx!
    cant wait for autonomous driving vehicles so it can properly store itself!

    Larry; How does the first 2 "layers" stand up to spot treatments with a claybar? Say your 2 months in after applying the first 2 layers and you live in a high industrial fall out area and have to park outside. And you notice after just a couple months you have maybe just a couple small rough spots you want to clay to smooth them out. How much of this product is removed from a quick spot clay, will both layers need to be re-applied to that area?
    Thanks.

    Larry please answer this for me..just finished full paint correction..I've applied 2 coats of ammo reflex 12 hours apart..now I'm going to add skin .. how long do I wait for second coat of skin to be applied. In regards to reflex you said 1 hour and then skin is ok.. that's awesome was hoping that I don't have to wait overnight everytime I do this with cars. Also I found skin being a little hard to remove after 2 mins or so..am I waiting too long or too short. It just seemed like I'm rubbing and it takes quite a bit to remove. When it's done I LOVE skin. Just was not sure on removal. Is leaving it overnight actually worth it ? And does it make removal harder again? Thanks in advanced Larry.

    • @MaRTiiiNxD
      @MaRTiiiNxD 7 років тому

      Actually, Larry said on his Reflex video to not use any spray waxes or Hydrate prior to applying Reflex (you want a ‘virgin’ clear coat for maximum bonding, etc).
      You see people stripping everything off with concentrated shampoo, etc and going over with 1:1 IPA to take everything off the clear coat.
      Applying something prior to your coat/sealant/wax of choice would just defeat the purpose of what you did to prep the car

    • @eg716
      @eg716 7 років тому

      MaRTiiiNxD that's what I thought I remembered hearing at some point in a previous video. I guess I will go down the route of being cautious while drying my car. hello sir, I can not speak to using the crème as a windshield protectant, because I have no knowledge on that. but I have a couple bottles of different ammo product next to me (by my bedside, don't judge), and none of them mention a shelf life or expiration date, though they all say "Do not freeze". that being said, they most likely do have a shelf life, but I would think they could last a couple years before any chemicals in the mixture start to degrade.

      @DripExplains 7 років тому

      It can mar the paint if used often.

    • @colinstu
      @colinstu 7 років тому

      ForeignBorn Patriot isn’t that just caused by improper usage? And you’re not supposed to clay bar all the time anyways.

    • @DripExplains
      @DripExplains 7 років тому

      Colin Stuart don’t clay bar all the time. When you do, use a lot of lube and don’t press hard on the paint.

    • @wheresthedvo
      @wheresthedvo 7 років тому +1

      the "controversy" comes into play because some people believe it should be done every wash, which isn't necessarily true. the reason to use a clay bar is to remove deeply embedded contaminants in the paint surface, which can be caused by many things, like sap or other debris from a tree, or dust that has been sitting on the paint for too long. that being said, cars that are kept inside, or cars that are cleaned and protected very often, have no need for the clay bar, because the contaminants have no time to embed themselves into the paint, and come off with a simple rinse. if the car doesn't need to be clayed, then going through the process of claying it every time you wash just wastes time, and doesn't actually have any positive effect for the paint. that's why Larry uses the analogy that you don't go to the emergency room every day, assuming there is something wrong, you only go to the emergency room when you need it. if you wash your car regularly, and add protection often enough, then claying should never be needed, it's usually cars that are neglected for some time that need to be clayed.

    If you select an autoglym lifeshine product and technician to apply the paint sealants when purchasing your new vehicle at the dealership before the handover, you don't have to use skin as autoglym lifeshine provides years of sealant protection. All you need then is maintenance washes and wax applications. Sorry Larry, just offering alternative solutions.

    What’s the difference between skin and wax.

    • @wheresthedvo
      @wheresthedvo 7 років тому +1

      long story short, skin is more protective, wax is more shiny
      long story long, skin is a synthetic sealant, meaning it is formulated in a lab, that way they can control the effects of the product by changing its makeup- for example it can be formulated to withstand a couple weeks of sun exposure and other driving "wear", though it doesn't usually give off as good of a shine as a natural wax. carnauba wax, which is what Ammo Crème is, has a very natural shine to it, and brings "depth" to the paint, making it more reflective, though, because it is organic, it doesn't last long, and it evaporates in high heat very quickly.
      like Larry says (if I may speak on his behalf) they are both helpful in making the car beautiful, and when they work together, you get the protection of ammo skin, and the shine of the carnauba wax. the skin lasts longer so you don't need to apply it as often, but the carnauba wax (if you desire the deep shine, though you can argue that it's not necessary as long as the paint is protected) should be applied more often, because it evaporates or "wears out" quicker

      @DripExplains 7 років тому

      Skin is a sealant that last longer than wax, it goes on first. Does not have the shine that wax has. Wax is just for looks, doesn't last long and goes on second.

      Julio gt Looks like it to me. I'm not big on coatings. Never used them, but not a fan. I believe in weekly washes and bi weekly waxes, with correct technique to minimize scratches and such.

      I'm not an expert but I had my car coated with something similar to reflex and it definitely was worth it. Maybe Larry could explain why reflex is not considered a ceramic coating and their differences. I would definitely like to try it.

    • @cdsmith1990

      To my understanding, Reflex is a traditional sealant, that is a man-made product containing polymers, resins and synthetics. From my experience, there's a broad range of performance from sealants. I've used products that produced the super-wet glossy appearance of a carnauba wax, to the detriment of longevity, and products that have lasted almost 12 months without re-application, at the expense of that extra % of 'wow' shine. I think because they're synthetic, there's a wide spectrum of how they can be manufactured to perform. Larry seems to have his product to provide more longevity than a natural wax, with a slight (emphasis on slight) reduction on max potential gloss - which makes perfect sense as he already has a wax product in his lineup.
      Ceramic, quartz or glass coatings (the terms seem to be used quite interchangeably tbh) use naturally occurring silica (a component used in ceramic and glass manufacture), commonly found in quartz, and is modified on a nano level to create these coatings. I haven't personally used these, but I did have a quartz coating applied by a 'professional' to a new car a fee years ago and honestly, I wasn't impressed. As it was a daily driver, the aim was to have a properly sealed paint surface for the advertised 12 months, with regular washes and maintenance to keep it working well. I got maybe 4 months out of it before the performance fell off a cliff, through no fault of myself or my maintenance method. That may just be a one-off (hopefully) but suffice to say, first impressions I wasn't impressed.
      Give me a good sealant that can be applied every ~6 months by hand, and topped up every 1-2 months with a quick wax, and I'll be happy.

    Larry, what is a good (not the best) but, affordable DA polisher to get started with? I have a new black car and it is already killing me trying to keep clean and as careful as I have been washing I already see swirls and scratches. Have Happy Thanksgiving thanks for all you do.

      Griots 6 inch DA and harbor freight 6 inch DA polisher (way cheaper) are good for beginners.
      I personally have Griots but not Harbor Freight... but those are the two I see recommended for starters

      I bought ammo plum, his towels, and that seat scrubber. Would def do it again. It's not cheap like you said. For car soap I use adams or even meguiars. Sealant I use wolfgang 3.0 and for wax Adams butter wet. Great cheap alternatives.
